Just a week ago, everyone had written off the Mumbai Indians. But with four straight wins and a squad clicking in perfect rhythm, they've roared back into the spotlight. The five-time champions aren't just winning—they're dominating, playing with the swagger and confidence of a team that knows exactly how to conquer titles. In contrast, Rishabh Pant - acquired for a record-breaking Rs 27 crore to lead Lucknow Super Giants - has looked a shadow of his once-destructive self. After nine matches this season, he has mustered just 106 runs, with 63 of those coming in a single knock against CSK. Pant has always thrived when brimming with confidence, but at LSG, he seems jaded and weighed down by expectations. His strike rate of 96.36 is alarmingly low for someone of his caliber. Part of the issue could be his constant shuffle in the batting order, never quite settling into one role. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja have retained their spots in the Grade A+ bracket of the BCCI central contracts despite stepping away from T20Is. We break down how the BCCI arrived at that decision. In the latest episode of the Sledging Room podcast, Saurabh Kumar, Kingshuk Kusari, and Alan Jose John dissect the central contracts, Pant's struggles, and Mumbai Indians' roaring comeback in IPL 2025. In this episode of the Top Order Podcast, Jamie, Baldy and Stu discuss some of the major talking points from the past week, including Australia's 2-0 Test series win in Sri Lanka, the England v India ODI series, a tri-series for the Black Caps, Champions Trophy injuries and some New Zealand domestic players we're keeping an eye on. We start the show by discussing Australia's 2-0 Test series win in Sri Lanka. Despite Baldy's worries about selection, it was another dominant performance from the Aussies at Galle - led by Steve Smith with the bat and in the field. We also talk about Dimuth Karunaratne's legacy in what was his 100th and final Test. Next we move to white-ball cricket, with England taking on India in ODIs. Results keep going India's way, thanks to an excellent return to form for Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja's craft & the all-round contributions of Axar Patel. There's also chat about England's batters, dot balls in the middle overs and what clues selections are giving us for the Champions Trophy. We then turn our attention to the tri-series between the Black Caps, Pakistan and South Africa, which has seen a stunning hundred from Glenn Phillips, a record-breaking debut from Matthew Breetzke and a mammoth partnership between Kane Williamson and Devon Conway. We discuss the importance of these fixtures and what we might be learning with one eye on the ICC tournament to follow. To round out the show, Stu gives a shout out to the Kerr sisters and the Boyle brothers, before sharing a few names he'll be watching for the remainder of the NZ domestic summer. India's T20I side is looking formidable after a dominant 4-1 series win over England at home, continuing their impressive run in the shortest format of the game. Under Suryakumar Yadav's captaincy, India have established a settled line-up in T20Is. Young talents are excelling, while senior players are embracing greater responsibility. The template set by Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid prior to the T20 World Cup triumph has been maintained, with a few lovely updates. Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson have stood out as openers, showcasing fearless cricket at the top of the order. They have been brilliantly backed by captain Suryakumar and coach Gautam Gambhir. Tilak Varma has also cemented his place in the XI with consistent performances. Barring the established trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Kuldeep Yadav, questions arise about whether there is room for other star players to return without disrupting the current balance of the T20I side. Leading up to the 2024 T20 World Cup, the Rahul Dravid-led management reintroduced Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja. While the trio delivered strong performances, their return impacted team continuity and limited opportunities for emerging players. Can Gautam Gambhir resist the temptation to reintegrate superstars? What will happen when Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant become available for T20Is? Will they be considered, and how will their inclusion affect the current dynamics? In the latest episode of the Sledging Room Podcast, we also delve into the build-up to the Champions Trophy, as India and England prepare for a three-match ODI series starting on 6 February. Tune in! How good are India in T20I cricket? Since winning the T20 World Cup in 2024, India have taken their game in the shortest format of the game a notch higher. It seems the transition period in T20I cricket has been more seamless than in Tests for India. Three doyens of the format - Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja - retired after the World Cup triumph. However, India don't seem to miss them a lot.The coach-captain partnership between Gautam Gambhir and Suryakumar Yadav has worked wonders. While Gambhir has not managed to find success in Test cricket, he has been a remarkable coach in T20I cricket. Why so?Is it time for India to think about having different coaches for different formats? In the latest episode of the Sledging Room Podcast, we also discuss the widening gap in the relationship between star players and journalists. Also, is Bazball really going to work in limited-overs cricket?Tune InProduced by Garvit SrivastavaSound mixed by Rohan Bharti
Australia India Daily, 4th Test, Melbourne Day 3: One of the great MCG hundreds, on a day with a wonder that you might not expect if you just looked at the score. India were down and out after the first session, with Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja lopped off. India started the day at 5-165 and were reduced to 7-221 inside 65 overs courtesy of an outrageous shot/dismissal from Rishabh Pant then Nathan Lyon removing his spin counterpart Ravindra Jadeja. But then Nitish Kumar Reddy and Washington Sundar combined for a stoic 127-run 8th wicket stand to defy Australia's push for victory. Sundar made 50 but fell with Reddy needing three more runs for his century. Some late drama wouldn't deny a maiden Test hundred as bad light stopped play with rain bringing an early stumps. At the close of play, India are 9-358, trailing Australia by 116 runs. Izzy Westbury and Callum Ferguson recap the action for you. The build-up to the Boxing Day Test match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground has been fiery. India superstars Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja have been the centre of attention for the Australian media. The host media targeted the India duo with bizarre allegations ahead of the 4th Test match. While Kohli was accused of misbehaving with a female reporter, the press accused Jadeja of not entertaining questions in English. While both allegations were busted later, did Australian media cross a line with the Indian team?If the whole media vs players has been one of the talking points this week, the teams have had more drama. Ravichandran Ashwin opted to retire and fly out in the middle of the tour; the Australian team management snubbed a young batter after just 3 Test matches. Both teams are expected to field fresh line-ups for the Boxing Day Test. But which team has the upper hand? India - who will be playing at their traditional stronghold in Australia? Or the hosts, who have done sensationally well in the last three Tests at the venue?Akshay Ramesh, Saurabh Kumar, and Kingshuk Kusari discuss this in the latest episode of the Sledging Room.Tune in!Produced by Anna PriyadarshiniSound mixed by Nitin Rawat
Australia India Daily, 3rd Test, Brisbane Day 4: God bless the follow-on! What could have been a fairly dull day of cricket between rain delays became a wholesome and delightful one thanks to one simple thing: a team trying to finish fewer than 200 runs behind another team. Whoever came up with that plan, a blessing on your head. Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins took on a huge job after Josh Hazlewood went down injured, KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja did the spadework, then it was all down to Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep. Rain again toyed with both teams in the third Test but there was still plenty of action on day four at the Gabba. Steve Smith dropped a sitter then later took a screamer, KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja kept the Aussie assault at bay with a gutsy half-centuries, Josh Hazlewood suffered a right calf injury that'll likely keep him out of the summer, Mitch Starc and Pat Cummins carried the attack and Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep denied the hosts the chance to enforce the follow-on and in doing so pretty much sealing a draw. The Indian Express' Sriram Veera, Mihir Vasavda, and Sandip G discuss how Akash Deep and Jasprit Bumrah dug deep to brighten India's chances of salvaging a draw from an impossible situation after KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja scored fine fifties, with Australia set to be without the injured Josh Hazlewood for the remainder of the Test and possibly the series.Produced by Shashank BhargavaEdited and mixed by Suresh Pawar
In this episode of the show, we reflect on the Black Caps' 3-0 series win against India, which left interesting questions for both sides as they head into their next fixtures. We also discuss potential World Test Championship final scenarios and the flurry of white-ball series from around the world. The Black Caps made it a clean sweep against India with a 25-run victory at Wankhede Stadium, to cap off a remarkable month for New Zealand cricket. Ajaz Patel was crowned player of the match and Will Young the player of the series, but those performances might still not be enough to get them into the starting XI for the home summer. We talk through the spin bowlers on show, heap praise on Daryl Mitchell's fighting effort with bat in hand and raise questions that now face this Indian side: Are they still the best Test team in the world? Do Gautam Gambhir and the leadership group need to make changes? Can Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma bounce back against Australia? Is there a place for all three of Ravi Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar in the XI away from home? We also discuss whether the ICC need to consider moving to four-day Tests, then take a quick look at the white-ball series featuring NZ, Sri Lanka, England, West Indies, Australia and Pakistan - so many that we ran out of time to cover the 47 other series that are currently under way. We'll be back again next week with a full preview of the 2024 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, with the Black Caps v England preview not far behind that. It was hardly surprising Mitchell Santner woke up sore the morning after his match-winning heroics. Twenty-nine straight overs while bowling the Black Capsto a famous victory would have that effect. Santner's 13-wicket haul inspired a 113-run win in Pune on Saturday, recording the third-best figures by a New Zealander and the third-best for any bowler against India. The spinner held up an end while shutting down the hosts' chase, battling a side strain that required stretching between overs. A maiden series triumph within reach, Santner was the constant and content to later pay a physical price. “The side was all right last night – I was numbing it with a few beers,” he said. “But this morning it's a little bit sore.” The good news for Santner is the Black Caps can now enjoy their historic success and rest weary bodies before gunning for a series sweep. “It's ideal that test only went three days,” he said. “It took a toil on the rig, I bowled 29 overs in a row which is very foreign for me. I'm usually used to four or 10.” Such is the limited life of a spinner combining black cap and red ball, knowing that no matter their ability or achievements offshore, a summer played on green pitches can still leave them superfluous. Teammate Ajaz Patel will attest to that – without a test wicket at home despite taking 10 in an innings on his last trip to India – and Santner is accustomed to an “in and out” schedule when the longest form occupies the international calendar. Seizing opportunities is essential, and although some thought he had missed a chance while held to one wicket, Santner developed a rhythm and confidence during the 2-0 series defeat by Sri Lanka. The left-armer felt he bowled well without reward on that tour, receiving no luck and in the second test no assistance from the pitch. Heading to Pune, having watched his team thrive in seam-friendly conditions in Bengaluru, Santner knew what type of surface would await the tourists. This was his shot, one he would not miss. “The first test was a massive achievement but we had conditions that were suited to us in the first innings with the ball, and we made the most of it,” he said. “Coming here, we knew it was going to be a different challenge altogether – a classic Indian track where it would be slow and take some turn later on. “That'swhat's most pleasing about this win — we beat them at their own game. We outspun them and outplayed them in their own conditions.” There was no doubt about that, nor the calibre of conquered foe. Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja took their combined tally to 842 test wickets, while Washington Sundar returned 11-115 in his first test in more than three years. But watching from the sideline and in the middle as Washington began with a seven-wicket bag, Santner joined Patel and Glenn Phillips in formulating a plan. All three New Zealand spinners were removed by the 25-year-old and the trio made note of what worked — and what didn't for the wicketless Jadeja. “We had a lot of chats us a spin unit,” Santner said. “We felt India might have bowled a little quickly in their first innings and it was skidding on. “We saw Washington and Ashwin slow it up a touch under that 90km mark and it started to take some turn. We wanted to make that our stock and go either way from there. “On a pitch where you're not doing anything different but one will skid and one will turn, it becomes an accuracy thing. That's what we tried to do – be accurate – and hopefully one spins and they nick it or one skids and it hits them on the pad. “That what the mode of dismissal throughout that whole test – either bowled, lbw or they nicked it.” Of Santner's 13 wickets, only one came via a different method, while Phillips' three scalps were the same. Although the allrounder pair outshone the team's specialist, Santner shared the plaudits with both Patel and Phillips, believing the third test in Mumbai – where Patel bagged his full set in 2021 – could bring a reversal of roles. “We speak a lot about bowling in partnerships, especially in these conditions where someone might not be getting the wickets but doing a job at the other end,” Santner said. “In this test it flipped for me and I'mpretty pleased to get the wickets, but we talk about Jazzy and GP's roles as well, they did a massive job in just trying to squeeze and build. New Zealand celebrate Mitchell Santner's dismissal of Virat Kohli. Photo / Photosport “Next test, it might be different again. Someone else might get the wickets and it might be my role to dot it up.” The competitor in Santner must hope for a repeat of Pune, especially with another duel to be won against a great of the modern game. The 32-year-old had missed Virat Kohli's wicket in three previous tests but, having claimed the Indian linchpin four times with a white ball, picked up his scalp twice in the second test. The first dismissal – a low full toss that Kohli missed – would not warrant a spot on the career highlight reel. But Santner was pleased by the second, rapping the pad and forcing a review that left a reluctant batter to trudge from the field. “It's always nice to get Kohli out,” Santner said. “I tried to bowl on the seam and get a couple of go away, then intentionally bowled a cross-seam to see if it would skid, and it stayed down and gathered pace. “I don't think he was happy with the umpire's call. We have good banter off the field as well – I've got him out a couple of times and I think he's aware of that.” Kohli and teammates will now be well aware of the threat brought by Santner, sore side and all. - by Kris Shannon, NZ HeraldSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
New Zealand have held their nerve to record one of their best wins in almost 95 years of test cricket. The loss of their skipper from the second ball of the fifth day didn't worry the tourists, nor the probing of a fearsome Indian attack buoyed by a frenzied atmosphere in Bengaluru. Instead, two players with a combined 25 tests' experience coolly and methodically worked their way towards a 107-run target to secure an eight-wicket victory, the Black Caps' third from 37 matches in India. Will Young (48no) and Rachin Ravindra (39no)survived a new ball that was seaming and swinging then negated a deteriorating pitch offering variable turn, seeing off a unit boasting three of the top six-ranked bowlers in the world. And they did it with barely a scare – one batter in the team only owing to an injury for Kane Williamson and the other playing his first test in the city of his parents' birth. It was a victory built on an outstanding initial four sessions, skittling the hosts for 46 before piling on 402 in reply. But India responded by plundering 462in their second innings, setting up a tricky chase exacerbated by the loss of new captain Tom Latham and fellow opener Devon Conway in the first hour. No matter – Young and Ravindra, putting together an unbeaten partnership of 75 runs from 92 balls, made it appear easy. History suggested that was hardly the case. This was New Zealand's first triumph in India since Sir Richard Hadlee took 10-88 – his fifth-best match figures – while leading a 136-run victory at Wankhede in 1988. That win came 19 years after their first in Nagpur, a 167-run success during their third trip to the country. Now, with two tests to play, the tourists have a chance to avoid a series defeat in India – a feat they have managed twice in 14 attempts. They are far from alone in their struggles. India have lost four of 48 tests at home in the last 10 years, twice to Australia and twice to England. This Indian team currently lead the World Test Championship, having won eight of 11 matches in the current cycle, while the Black Caps entered on a four-test losing streak that spurred a captaincy change. Add in the absence of Williamson alongside the side's recent struggles offshore – earning only seven test wins away from home in the last decade – and this triumph would be bettered by few since New Zealand played their first test in 1930. The way the day began emphasised the degree of difficulty in securing such a treasured result. After surviving a huge shout from Jasprit Bumrah's third delivery of the innings on the fourth night, Latham was less lucky from an unplayable second ball on the fifth morning. That ball was moving about in a manner to quicken Kiwi pulses, while a boisterous crowd joined the players in appealing anything close. The Black Caps were under pressure from Mohammed Siraj. Photo / Photosport The first half-hour disappeared in a blink as the Black Caps crept within 100, Young soon flicking Mohammed Siraj off his pads for the first boundary of the innings from the 48th delivery. The unflappable right-hander was batting with a level of composure that belied his international inexperience, carving Siraj through backward point before pulling him for a second boundary of the 12th over. But just when the crowd had been quietened, Bumrah angled one in to beat Conway, clip his back pad and, upon review, send him back to the pavilion. New Zealand never missed a beat. Ravindra was under way with two boundaries in three balls, having cracked in second test hundred in the first innings and having proven at last year's ODI World Cup he thrived in the big moment. After pulling within 50, Kuldeep Yadav was introduced as the second of India's formidable spin trio. Young ended his first over by coming down the track and flicking him over the fence. The 31-year-old did escape on 34, when Ravindra Jadeja put down a tough return catch, but that fortune was well deserved. As was the boundary he then cut to collect the winning runs. - by Kris Shannon, NZ HeraldSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
In this episode of the Top Order Podcast, we discuss another busy week of cricket from all around the world - from Sri Lanka's dominant win against the Black Caps in Galle, which led Tim Southee to step down from the captaincy, to India's whirlwind victory against Bangladesh in Kanpur. We also quickly look ahead to England's Test tour of Pakistan and the Women's ICC T20 World Cup in the UAE. We start in a sombre mood, with the woes of the Black Caps front of mind after a crushing loss against Sri Lanka. We talk about the self-inflicted nature of the performance, whether New Zealand are actually equipped to win a series like this one, what's next for this Test side following Tim Southee stepping aside as captain and whether more changes should be made in the very near future. There's also praise for Kamindu Mendis and Nishan Peiris, and Sri Lanka in general as they keep their World Test Championship Final dreams alive. Conversation then moves to Kanpur, where it looked like the weather would have the final say - until Rohit Sharma two-stepped down the wicket and launched the ball over long on. We discuss India's positive approach to the game, Jasprit Bumrah's offspin, high-level catching, Ravindra Jadeja joining the elite 300/3000 club and debate whether this Test is an advertisement for making four-day Tests the norm. We finish the show by looking ahead to England's visit to Pakistan - do they have the bowling attack to take 20 wickets? And will Pakistan ever get it together off the field? - as well as a quick preview of the women's T20 World Cup, which will see Australia go in as favourites yet again, but Baldy assures us is shaping up to be one of the most closely contested tournaments in recent memory.. In this episode of the show, the Top Order are together again to discuss a busy week of cricket from all around the world - from Sri Lanka's win against the Black Caps in Galle to India's dominant performance against Bangladesh in Chennai, before a whirlwind around the grounds to drop in on series involving England, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Afghanistan. We start by analysing the closely fought Test in Galle, which saw Prabath Jayasuriya and Ramesh Mendis bowl Sri Lanka to victory despite an impressive 92 from Rachin Ravindra. Was this a missed opportunity for the Black Caps? Did they pick the right XI? How high is the ceiling for Will O'Rourke? And how worried should we be about Devon Conway? Conversation then moves to Chennai, where the Tigers started with a hiss and a roar before Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja turned the match in India's favour. We talk about these two great allrounders, before discussing Rishabh Pant's return to Test cricket, the seam attacks for both sides and Team India's dominance at home. We finish the show by whizzing around some of the other series going on around the world - we saw big hundreds from Travis Head and Rahmanullah Gurbaz, while the White Ferns continue to struggle with the bat in the lead up to the T20 World Cup. Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant made a riveting comeback in Test cricket during India's first match against Bangladesh in Chennai. Pant scored a tremendous century, helping India win a comprehensive 280-run victory. Pant also matched MS Dhoni's tally of Test centuries in the process, hurling himself into the debate about the greatest keeper-batters from India in Test cricket. In the Sledging Room Podcast, Akshay Ramesh, Saurabh Kumar, and Kingshuk Kusari discuss whether the argument has merit and whether Pant is really on his way to becoming one of the greatest keeper-batters in the history of red-ball cricket in India. The trio also discuss the impact Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin have had on Test cricket for the country and how the in-form duo have dominated in the last four years whenever they have worn whites for India. But before all of that, the latest episode begins with the question of whether fans take India's domination in home Tests for granted and the possible reasons behind it.Tune in!Produced by Anna PriyadarshiniSound mix by Kapil Dev Singh

In this episode of the show, Binksy, Baldy, Raj and Stu share some extra thoughts on the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Final, plus the tournament as a whole, including pitches, the 20-team format & scheduling. We also look ahead to the upcoming Test series between England and the West Indies, and the first game in particular, which will be Jimmy Anderson's final Test. We start the show by getting Raj's thoughts on the final, since he missed our previous episode, and all wonder in hindsight why none of us predicted India as the champions before the tournament started. There's discussion about Axar Patel and Virat Kohli, India's team-first mentality, and of course praise for Jasprit Bumrah's special talents. As we move to the tournament overview, we share our thoughts on the pitches, whether we liked the 20-team format, how we might tweak the Super 8 phase and what we'd change about the scheduling and pre-tournament rankings going forward. In the second half of the show, we return to the white clothing, looking ahead to the West Indies' Test tour to England. We talk about new names in both squads, potential mixed messaging coming out of the BazBall camp and a few Jimmy Anderson thoughts as the realisation hits that we might be about to watch him for the final time. Unless something unexpected happens in the cricket world that we can't wait to talk about, we'll be back again after the conclusion of the first England v West Indies Test. In this podcast, SBS Hindi spoke with Sydney-based sports journalist and commentator Gaurav Joshi about India's recent victory in the ICC Men's T20 Cricket World Cup. The discussion covered the pivotal moment of the match, Suryakumar Yadav's historic final catch, and the emerging stars of the team following the departure of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravindra Jadeja from the T20 cricket matches.
India has reached the Super 8s of the T20 World Cup without losing a single game. India has now travelled to the West Indies for the Super 8 stages and will face Australia, Afghanistan and Bangladesh. Should India change their playing XI, given the conditions will be much more spin-friendly? If so, who gets dropped from playing XI? Many fans on social media have argued for the exclusion of Ravindra Jadeja, given that neither has the all-rounder scored any runs in group stages nor has he picked up any wickets. But will India be brave to drop a senior Indian player to accommodate a specialist spinner like Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal? The Indian team has a slight concern about Virat Kohli. Kohli has scored 1,4, and 0 in the three matches in the group stage, and there are murmurs if the batter should return to the No. 3 position, which might give the Indian team better stability on slower surfaces. Should Kohli return to his role as a grafter in the Indian batting line-up and play the longer innings without worrying about his strike rate? Akshay Ramesh, Saurabh Kumar and Kingshuk Kusari had previewed the teams in the Super 8s and discussed their chances of reaching the semi-finals. The three also discussed the struggles of the Indian batting unit and how the Indian team might overcome that challenge with a single tweak in their composition. The Sri Lankan side has also complained about tournament scheduling. Captain Wanindu Hasaranga and spinner Maheesh Theekshana lashed out at the T20 World Cup 2024 schedule, which sees them play in four different venues. Sri Lanka lost its first match of the campaign to South Africa, which was played in New York. After this, they will play Bangladesh in Dallas on June 7 and then head to Florida to face Nepal four days later. In contrast, a team like India has been stationed in New York and will play 3 out of 4 group-stage matches at the Nassau County Stadium. In the latest episode of the Sledging Room podcast, Saurabh Kumar, Kingshuk Kusari and Alan Jose John unpack various issues that teams have faced in the first week of this T20 World Cup. Tune in! India has named a 15-man squad with four reserve players under Rohit Sharma's leadership for the T20 World Cup 2024. While the top order is heavily stacked with experienced veterans like Rohit, Virat Kohli, and Suryakumar, the squad is completed by four spinners, three pacers, and two wicketkeepers. There was a joy for Sanju Samson and Yuzvendra Chahal, but despair for Rinku Singh, one of India's brightest T20 finds, who was dropped to reserves when the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee finalized India's squad in Ahmedabad on Tuesday. Before the IPL began, Rinku was a top contender for the T20 World Cup squad, known for his finishing skills akin to MS Dhoni's. In his 15 T20Is for India, he's scored 356 runs at an impressive average of 89 and a striking rate of 176.23. But the star finisher was dropped to the reserves when the final squad was announced. It remains to be seen who will fulfil the finisher's job in the World Cup in Rinku's absence, as Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja have both struggled recently. One of the wicketkeepers, either Sanju Samson or Rishabh Pant, will have to do it. Shivam Dube has earned his maiden call-up with first-choice all-rounder Hardik Pandya named vice-captain. With spin likely to play a significant role in Caribbean conditions, Chahal's inclusion could prove vital. However, the composition of the final lineup, particularly regarding the batting order, remains a decision for the team management. Concerns also linger over India's pace bowling stocks, with Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh not being in the best of their forms in IPL 2024. Will India miss Rinku Singh's services, and how will the final playing XI shape up once the tournament begins in the Carribean? Saurabh Kumar, Akshay Ramesh, and Sabyasachi Chowdhary discuss how strong is India's T20 World Cup squad in the latest episode of Sledging Room Podcast.
In this episode of the show, Stu and Baldy provide a midweek IPL update to discuss CSK's win against KKR and two final-over thrillers that saw points go to Sunrisers Hyderabad and the Gujarat Titans. We discuss standout performances from Rashid Khan, Ravindra Jadeja, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Shashank Singh, Sanju Samson, Riyan Parag, Shubman Gill as well as the key moments of these three games. Are the Gujarat Titans back? Will the Punjab Kings ever give up on a chase? Is spin going to be a major factor for the Chennai Super Kings from now on? Have Sunrisers Hyderabad found some consistency? Was it just a bad day at the office for Kolkata Knight Riders? Should the Rajasthan Royals have regrets about only bowling two Trent Boult overs?
Virat Kohli hit another T20 hundred, his 8th IPL century but RCB lost yet again. Kohli anchored RCB's innings with a brilliant 113 off 72 balls, while the rest of the team could only muster 59 off 48 balls. Despite receiving 11 extra runs from RR, RCB's total never posed a threat as RR comfortably chased it down with 5 deliveries and 6 wickets to spare. Despite losing Yashasvi Jaiswal early, RR's Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson capitalized on the favorable batting conditions, with Buttler scoring an unbeaten century off 58 balls and Samson contributing a quickfire 69 off 41 balls.Questions arose about RCB's batting strategy despite Kohli's century on Saturday. Concerns were raised about the pace of his innings, with some suggesting it could hinder the team's performance. Speculation also emerged about Kohli's suitability as an opener for India in the upcoming T20 World Cup. Was Kohli's slow hundred responsible for RCB's loss against RR? Well, the numbers don't lie. While it's tempting to blame Kohli for his 'slowest' IPL hundred, the bigger issue lies in the lack of support from a seemingly dysfunctional RCB team. With two weeks of IPL gone, we look it into who are the automatic choices to play the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Rinku Singh and Ravindra Jadeja are all but in. Will Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant make the squad as the two wicketkeepers? In the latest episode of Sledging Room Podcast, Akshay Ramesh, Saurabh Kumar and Kingshuk Kusari discuss why it's wrong to blame Kohli.Produced and Mixed By: Sachin Dwivedi
In this episode of the show, Binksy, Baldy and Stu discuss the 5th and final Test of England's tour to India, which saw the home side record a dominant victory to celebrate Ravichandran Ashwin's hundredth Test.We start the show by discussing the English reaction to a heavy defeat, and which players might face questions leading into their home summer. Then of course there is huge credit to India - batters such as Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal have shown that the future is still very bright for India, while the experienced spin trio of Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav got better and better throughout the series to pick England apart on their way to a 4-1 series victory. To finish the show, there's a word for Jimmy Anderson, who took his 700th Test wicket in his 187th match. We'll be back again next week with more news and views, but until then please take the time to give us a like, follow, share or subscribe on all our channels (@toporderpod on Twitter & Facebook, and @thetoporderpodcast on Instagram & YouTube) and a (5-Star!) review at your favourite podcast provider, or tell a friend to download. Stephan speaks to England's spin bowling coach Jeetan Patel after the day's play and Leach gives an update on his recovery from knee surgery.Leach talks about what it's like watching on from home with England struggling out in India and they also debate just how good Ravichandran Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav, and Ravindra Jadeja are as a spin attack, while Leach gives insight on what it's like to face the trio.
This week on the show, we're all back in the same room to discuss the Black Caps' demoralising loss to Australia at the Basin Reserve, as well as a preview/review of the 4th and 5th Tests between India and England. We start the episode with some initial thoughts from the Kiwi contingent about the pain of another Test loss to Australia - a game where New Zealand showed signs they could compete on days 1 and 3, but crumbled on the even days on their way to a very familiar scoreline against their Trans-Tasman neighbours. There's plenty of praise for Cameron Green and Nathan Lyon, as well as Matt Henry and Glenn Phillips who provided the positives from a New Zealand point of view. We also discuss the make up of a Black Caps bowling attack in transition, a seemingly indestructible quartet of Australian bowlers, the impact of injuries and the form of Marnus Labuschagne and Alex Carey. In the second half of the show, we look back at the 4th Test between India and England, which saw India secure a series victory in Ranchi. Was it a missed opportunity for England? Or do India deserve all the credit for winning the biggest moments of this series. We touch on crucial performances from Dhruv Jurel and Shubman Gill, highlighting their composure under huge pressure. Joe Root's hundred demonstrated his class, but India's spin trio of Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin and Kuldeep Yadav made life difficult for England in the third innings and turned the match back India's way. Finally, we preview the 5th Test in Dharamasala - potentially the hundredth for Jonny Bairstow and Ravi Ashwin - with an eye to conditions and how England may look back on this series when all is said and done. We'll be down at Hagley Oval in a few days' time at the second Test between the Black Caps and Australia, so expect plenty of content from that match and also the final India v England Test. India v England, Ranchi Day 1: Wait a minute. That looked suspiciously like an excellent day of conventional Test cricket. Akash Deep started his Test career with not one but several bangs, after a misfire. Mohammed Siraj bowled some pearls. Ravindra Jadeja got the pitch to play tricks. And through it all, Joe Root stood supreme with another classic innings, while Ben Foakes and latterly Ollie Robinson did their part. Is that stumps score a good one? Nobody has any idea. India v England, Rajkot Day 4: What a difference a day makes. Beginning the third morning in great shape, England succumbed to India by 434 runs by the end of the fourth evening. The supreme performance from the hosts included another double ton for their magnificent young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal before Ravindra Jadeja went to work, collecting a bag of five wickets to go with his century when the chips were down inside the first hour of the Test - doesn't that feel a long time ago now? England collapsed in the 4th test in Rajkot to give India a 2-1 series lead. Yashavsi Jaiswal hit his second double century in as many tests, before Rohit Sharma then declared - setting England an impossible chase of 557. Ravindra Jadeja then took 5-41 as England were bowled out for just 122. Jon Norman brings you full highlights from another crazy day of test cricket - which was live and exclusive to talkSPORT 2. If day three was bad for England, day four certainly wasn't any better. Phil Walker, Ben Gardner and Yas Rana react to India's thumping 434-run win against England in Rajkot, a victory that puts them 2-1 up in the five-match series. India piled on the runs in the morning session - Yashasvi Jaiswal scoring his second sensational double century of the series - before the declaration came with England set 557 to win. The visitors never got close, crumbling to 50-7 before ultimately being bowled out for just 122. On day one of the 3rd Test in Rajkot England are under pressure. This is thanks to a magnificent fightback from Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja. Later we saw Sarfaraz Khan's debut, which was long promised and lived up to expectations. Sarfaraz punished the tired England bowling in impressive fashion, before Jadeja ran him out. After India found themselves 33-3 the pair came together and scored big runs to put India on top against England and leave them with a good chance of winning the 3rd Test.
