In this episode of the show, Raj, Baldy and Stu look back at week 5 of IPL 2025, which saw Mumbai and RCB make their moves, CSK start looking to next season and New Zealand Cricket invest in Major League Cricket in the USA. We start this week with a check in about RCB. It's been a strange season for them so far - less hyped than previous years, struggles at home, but with a lot of the players in key positions all delivering on what's required. We talk about Virat Kohli's quietly impressive stats, Josh Hazlewood doing the business, Tim David's finishing, Krunal Pandya's key moments and whether it's time to load up on RCB stock before it is too late. From there, we move to Mumbai's charge up the table thanks to Rohit Sharma's return to form, Suryakumar Yadav's consistency, a bag for Trent Boult and a bowling attack that looks so much more complete now that it features Jasprit Bumrah. Then it's time to bounce around a few different topics - from the top 6 teams putting a gap between them and the rest, to left-handed openers like Priyansh Arya and Yashasvi Jaiswal, and the contrasting fortunes of teams like the Delhi Capitals, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings. We round out the show with a discussion about New Zealand Cricket's investment in MLC in North America. Is international investment in franchise cricket a glimpse into the future of the game? How will it work in reality? Who could it benefit? Could we ever see something similar in the IPL? We'll be back in your feed again soon with more IPL coverage. The latest discourse on the Indian Premier League 2025 unfolds with hosts Benny and Mayank as they delve into the unexpected developments of the tournament thus far. Central to our dialogue is the disconcerting performance of traditionally dominant teams, specifically the Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians, both languishing at the bottom of the standings. We explore the implications of these teams' struggles, contrasting them with the emerging prowess of younger players, such as Priyansh Arya and Digvesh Rathi, who have captured the attention and admiration of cricket enthusiasts. Additionally, we evaluate the strategic decisions and overall team dynamics that have contributed to the current standings while speculating on future trajectories as the season progresses. Join us as we dissect the nuances of this captivating season, providing insights into the evolving landscape of the IPL.
In this episode of the show, Baldy, Jamie and Stu look back at week 3 of IPL 2025 through a stock market lens. Who are we buying? Who are we selling? And what are we watching with our fingers poised ready to pounce in the coming weeks? We start this week with an injury update - and it's not been good news both on the field for the Kiwis Lockie Ferguson and Glenn Phillips, and in the podcast studio, with almost all of us suffering from one ailment or another. Once things do turn positive, it's the Gujarat Titans who are first to receive praise - in particular Sai Sudharsan and the consistency he's shown throughout the tournament so far. We also talk about Punjab's Indian core and the golden duck to century turnaround for Priyansh Arya. Dr Jamie takes us through the mindset needed to succeed across a long tournament like the IPL, in which you're bound to fail along the way - perhaps more often than you do succeed. Next we talk about the Sunrisers Hyderabad after Abhishek Sharma's outrageous 141, which saw them chase down almost 250 and maybe kick-start their turnaround. Is it time to load up on SRH stock? Or are there still worrying signs? Things get dark when discussion turns to CSK - the intent has disappeared, no one is scoring runs and not even MS Dhoni cameos can really get the crowd excited any more. Can they turn it around? Or is it already time to sell all our stock despite it reaching an all-time low? To round out the show, we detour briefly to talk about Harry Brook's appointment as England captain, we talk Digvesh Rathi's celebrations, Vipraj Nigam establishing DC's spin trio & Nicholas Pooran's six-hitting prowess as LSG continue to impress. We expect to be back in your feed later in the week with more IPL coverage. Alison Mitchell, Clint Wheeldon and Sunil Gupta take stock of the Indian Premier League and discuss whether MS Dhoni should retire at the end of this season. Dhoni had to deny that he was retiring midway through the season after his parents were pictured at his match for Chennai Super Kings against Delhi Capitals. Plus we analyse the return of Jasprit Bumrah who has played his first match in 93 days after injuring his back and how big Virat Kohli's achievement is of reaching 13,000 T20 runs. Plus we go behind the scenes and hear what life is like for a cricket agent. We are joined by Cameron Richardson who manages a number of female Australian players including Ashes hero Alana King. He tells us that when he first saw her bowl at the age of 18, she reminded him of Shane Warne. He also shares with us the difference between managing male and female players and about balancing player burnout. Rishabh Pant is the big signing, but do him and Pooran have enough between them to elevate the Super giants? Delhi Capitals look to have improved in some areas, and come in with a bowling attack featuring players like Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav. However on the batting side things look weaker, what will happen to them in this year's Indian Premier League? And Chennai Super Kings have re-upped on their spin heavy approach. Ashwin is back and he will be joined by Noor Ahmed, as they make an effort to help MS Dhoni win another trophy. In this episode of the show, Binksy, Jamie, Baldy and Stu kick off the IPL 2025 coverage by previewing the fortunes of the Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals, Mumbai Indians and the Chennai Super Kings. We start with a Baldy explainer, and a quick chat about the impact of the mega auction, before moving straight into the team previews. We discuss what excites us about our chosen teams, whether that's particular players or team storylines, and whether they'll be in title contention come the business end of the tournament. First up is KKR, in which Binksy asks why they aren't favourites with the betting agencies, highlights the importance of Andre Russell and Sunil Narine again, as well as the talented Indian bowling core featuring the likes of Varun Chakravarthy, Harshit Rana and Vaibhav Arora. There's also a word on Ajinkya Rahane taking over as captain. Next is Sunrisers Hyderabad, in which Stu gets excited about songs, Abhishek Sharma, Nitish Kumar Reddy, the power-packed batting lineup and bowling reinforcements, before asking whether this team can go one better in 2025. For the Rajasthan Royals, the absence of Jos Buttler is the question on our minds. Without him and others, they look weaker and the betting agencies have written them off. But can Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal and co. make those odds look silly when the winners medals are handed out at the end of May? The Mumbai Indians are up fourth, and Baldy proceeds with caution when discussing their favouritism with the bookmakers. Will the star-studded batting lineup featuring Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya and friends deliver in 2025? Or will the absence of Jasprit Bumrah - for how long? - be too difficult to overcome with the ball in hand? To round out part one of our preview, Jamie takes a look at CSK, highlighting the plethora of options their allrounder-packed squad provides them. What role will Rachin Ravindra play? Will MS Dhoni continue his six-hitting exploits? And when the team does settle on a best XI, will it be strong enough to take them to the final? In this episode of the show, Binksy and Stu look back at the final week of the IPL 2024 regular season before previewing the upcoming knockout fixtures. Recorded on 20 May, we talk about a week that saw Royal Challengers Bengaluru storm into the playoffs, Sunrisers Hyderabad snatch second place, Kolkata Knight Riders watch some rain fall, Rajasthan Royals extend their losing streak and missed opportunities for Lucknow Super Giants and the Chennai Super Kings. We discuss the epic match between RCB and CSK, which essentially became a quarterfinal thanks to LSG's slip up earlier in the week, and then take a closer look at all four playoff teams as we move to the business end of the season. KKR have been superb all season, but will Phil Salt's absence and consecutive washouts leave them vulnerable? The Sunrisers Hyderabad bowling attack has improved throughout the season, but are their chances tied heavily to the success of Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head at the top of the order? With the Rajasthan Royals in a slump and Jos Buttler gone - is Ravichandran Ashwin at 5 really the answer? Virat Kohli's form has been immense all season for RCB, but have they become an all-round threat during this six-game win streak? Plus predictions and much more! We might be back again later in the week with more news and views if there's an incredible game we can't wait to talk about, but if not we'll be in your feed again about this time next week to wrap up the final and also look ahead to the T20 World Cup. Four IPL games on our latest weekend reaction show. Earlier today Will Jacks smashed an amazing century for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, with Virat Kohli watching on in awe. Earlier in the weekend Rajasthan Royals beat Lucknow Super Giants, with Sanju Samson cashing in. And Delhi Capitals won AGAIN, as they all but eliminated Mumbai Indians from the tournament. Finally, Chennai Super Kings are taking on Sunrisers Hyderabad. Chennai posted a big score thanks to Ruturaj Gaikwad, but will it be enough to stop Heinrich Klaasen.
Two IPL games to talk about today, as we cover Sunrisers Hyderabad smashing the Chennai Super Kings and the Punjab Kings miracle win v the Gujarat Titans. Shashank Singh, who was rumoured to have been accidentally bought at the IPL auction, redeemed himself with a scintillating 50 that lead Punjab Kings to a heroic win. Today CSK batted like lemons to leave SRH only 165 to win. Sunrisers set off on fire with Abhishek blasting the ball everywhere as they cruised towards an easy win. We provide our reaction to both IPL 2024 matches from the last two days. Three games in the 2024 IPL for us to talk about this weekend. Yesterday Lucknow Super Giants beat the Punjab Kings of comedy, thanks to Mayank Yadav bowling 97mph and Nicholas Pooran blasing the ball into orbit. Today we say the Gujarat Titans overcome the Sunrisers Hyderabad thanks to a combination of Mohit Sharma, Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmed. Then later Delhi Capitals posted a score of 190 v Chennai Super Kings and thanks to some tight bowling put the pressure on Gaikwad, Dhoni and the boys to pull off a difficult chase. Rishabh Pant scored his first 50 since his car accident. On our midweek 2024 IPL reaction we discuss three games, featuring: Sunrisers Hyderabad v Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans v Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings v Royal Challengers Bangalore. The main story is Sunrisers Hyderabad who, led by Klaasen, Head and Abhishek Sharma blitzed their way to the IPL record score of 275. Mumbai Indians were caught in the headlights as their bowlers were punished by the Sunrisers who were in amazing form. Earlier in the week Chennai Super Kings overcame the Titans with ease, as MS Dhoni took a great catch along the way. And Royal Challengers Bangalore won their first match of the year as they jumped all over mistakes from the Punjab Kings. MS Dhoni and the Chennai Super Kings take on Virat Kohli and Royal Challengers Bangalore. CSK v RCB is a classic of the IPL and a fitting way to begin the tournament, but who will take the bragging rights on this occasion? The 17th edition of the IPL is here! CSK got things going against RCB, eventually recording a comfortable win in Ruturaj Gaikwad's first game in charge. RCB started well, but 4 wickets for Mustafizur and an electric start to Rachin Ravindra's IPL career were good enough for Chennai. On this episode of The Cricket Podcast we continue with our IPL 2024 Team Previews. This episode is a big one, featuring three of the biggest franchises in the Indian Premier League: Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders. Are any of them contenders for this year's IPL title. Chennai Super Kings go into this year after winning the tournament last year. MS Dhoni is still in charge and with players like Jadeja, Chahar, Moeen Ali, the Dube and more backing him up they look like they could be a threat to win the IPL again. Can they secure another championship or might this be one tournament to far for the legendary Dhoni? Royal Challengers Bangalore made a big trade before the auction, picking up Cameron Green to bolster their batting. Along with the acquisition of Alzarri Joseph they seem like they could have improved for this year's IPL. However, there are weaknesses in other areas of the team and their bowling, in particular, looks like it could come under pressure. Will RCB be able to pull it together and finally deliver Virat Kohli the title he wants? Finally we talk Kolkata Knight Riders. They feature an exciting batting line up with Rinku Singh, Andre Russell and now Phil Salt providing serious firepower to their batting card. Backed up by a spin trio lead by Narine they could be a real handful with the ball too, especially if we see Mitchell Starc hit his stride. Could they be the dark horses for the IPL title?
