This last week, UK Tech Week was launched, and a host of events took place across the UK in celebration. We asked its Founder, Stuart Clarke MBE, to talk to us about the inspiration behind creating an umbrella platform to showcase tech communities across the UK. With events throughout the year in most regions from Glasgow to Basildon, Humberside to Bristol it was great to hear about how different tech weeks differentiate themselves based on local expertise. We talk about capital, partnerships, and why something like UK Tech Week can expand the reach of tech to a much broader audience through collaboration. Do head over to the UK Tech Week website and social channels to find out more. We also had some updates from Chris Bruce on Cambridge Tech Week too, including: • The Innovation Alley exhibition call has been announced - Innovation Alley takes place on Tuesday 10th September at the Corn Exchange and will showcase 50 innovative startups, 10 scaleups and a small number of corporates to showcase the exciting diversity of tech innovation. Nominations close by 30th May. • The call for contributors closes 13th May, so if you are interested in a speaking slot or being part of a panel or fireside chats they there is still time to apply (conditions are on the website). • The registrations for delegate tickets went live this week, with super early bird rates for the first 50 registrations. Will we see you at #CamTechWeek?Produced by Cambridge TV Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Janell and Stuart Clarke are both engineers and both enjoyed travelling and exploring the Australian outback by four wheel drive having so much fun that they decided to explore the world. So they began dreaming and planning a trip, but it soon became apparent to them that the cost of using a four wheel drive would deeply cut in to their budget. Then the idea of using motorcycles came up and that seemed like a plan they could sink their teeth into. Soon they were on the road, two bikes and a dog on the trip of a lifetime. Nine years later, they are still travelling from country to country and having picked up some passengers it's now five of them on two motorcycles - still exploring the world. Moon Knight shrugs off any measly threat, and warns Rampage, “I'm Moon Knight. You have no hold over me”. Later that night, Moon Knight and Tigra reflect on their friendship and how Moon Knight has changed. Marc reveals his sorrow in how he has destroyed his friends and even his relationship with his own daughter. In this episode, we'll be looking at Leeds' thriving tech and digital sector and how we can work more collaboratively with them to share a passion and commitment to bring about a sustainable change across Leeds. Leeds digital sector is currently the fastest growing in the UK, and employs around 30,000 people, contributing to £6.6bn to the local economy. It has continued to thrive during the pandemic and is playing a vital role in the city's economic recovery. But not everyone is thriving in the world of digital. 10% of the adult population are not online at all, according to the Office of National Statistics which is a staggering 5 million people. The pandemic highlighted issues of digital inequality in Leeds. Access to or lack of internet and technological equipment such as laptops and computers led to children already at a disadvantage falling further behind with their education. In this episode we're joined by Ben McKenna of Solidaritech and David Smith of Crossgates & District Good Neighbour's Scheme, two Community Organisations tackling the digital divide in our local communities. We're also joined by Stuart Clarke co-founder of Leeds Digital Festival who talks about how the tech and digital sector can get involved to help tackle the divide.A full transcript of the podcast can be found here. Leeds Community Foundation creates opportunities for all by working with partners to make a positive impact within communities across Leeds and Bradford. We do this by generating and investing philanthropic giving as well as maximising statutory funding to deliver grants and provide trusted expertise into Community Organisations, benefitting thousands of local people.Learn more about Leeds Community Foundation and subscribe to our newsletter here.Follow us on Twitter and Instagram @LeedsCommFound.
Stuart is festival director of Leeds Digital Festival, now in it's 6th year. Up until the pandemic the festival was purely physical, but virtual environments have given the festival a new dimension. Stuart tells us why Leeds is gaining such attention.
