Today Angela and Patti will be discussing the hot topic of social media and how it can affect relationships. We are concerned about how social media can cause hurt feelings, depression, addiction to social media, and comparison. Here are some reflection questions: What makes people feel it’s okay to post things that they would most likely never say face to face or outside of social media?   Where does this boldness or insensitivity come from?   Is proving your point worth all the drama and losing friendships over? Today, we would like to explore how to manage some of those difficult behaviors. How do we relate to social media in a healthy way? Are you taking a break from social media because it is “too toxic?" What do you find frustrating about social media, what makes it so toxic to you?  We love to hear from listeners if they could share what they find disappointing about social media, why not leave us a comment. To the Listeners: What are some of the things you ENJOY seeing on social media. What do you love seeing?  Angela:  I love healing meditations and I share those because I love them. What do you love seeing?  Maybe you can share a comment on the podcast and let us know. Patti: I love seeing photos of families having fun together, vacation photos, travel adventures and cute positive memes. In a previous podcast (episode 4) we discussed going Beyond Comparison and Accepting One Self. “Cancel culture refers to the popular practice of withdrawing support for (canceling) public figures and companies after they have done or said something considered objectionable or offensive. Cancel culture is generally discussed as being performed on social media in the form of group shaming.” https://www.dictionary.com/e/pop-culture/cancel-culture/ Patti wrote a blog posts similar to this subject called Don’t Be That Guy!    It is about shaming someone or making them the poster child in the workplace. When someone has committed a bad behavior or done something procedurally wrong, in some organizations, they use this term “Don’t be that (Guy) Person” for humiliation or an example of what not to do. I feel this is similar to the cancel culture. In the blog post is a poll.  With this question - Is shaming an effective management strategy? Angela will be holding gentle movement classes Come September and to be informed  SIGN UP TO HEAR ABOUT CLASSES in the link in the show notes. Beyond the Call: First Responders Share Their Stories

Carey Peña Reports

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 21, 2018 21:36

Angela Harrolle talks with Carey Pena about the hit podcast, “The Call”, and how it is helping humanize what First Responders go through every single day. Almost 10 years ago, her husband, DPS Officer/Paramedic Bruce Harrolle, died while trying to rescue two lost and stranded hikers near Sedona. Today Angela continues to honor his memory by launching this podcast. “The Call” was recently honored by Phoenix New Times as one of the best podcasts. Angela is president of 100 Club of Az and host of “The Call”. Allie Nassar is the podcast producer and so much more. Both Angela and Allie are dedicated to bringing to life the deeply personal stories told by First Responders beyond “The Call”. Ten years ago, Angela's husband was at work on just another regular 24-hour shift as a DPS Officer. She was at home, getting her young children ready for bed, when her daughter said there was someone at their door. On this beautiful October day, Angela saw a DPS flight suit flanked by several smoky hats. She knew it couldn't be good. Her husband, Bruce Harrolle, had been struck by the helicopter rotor blade and fatally injured during the rescue of the two hikers. The unimaginable had happened. Angela never believed she would have to plan a funeral for her husband or tell her children that their daddy was not coming home. Known as a big story teller, Bruce had kept records of his stories, and Angela wanted to share these stories with the community. Stories people would want to hear. Allie's father is a retired Phoenix firefighter, and her husband is joining Arizona Fire and Medical. The 100 Club of AZ had helped put Allie through college. Upon graduation, she didn't know what she wanted to do next. She went back to 100 Club where she interned and met Angela, who offered her a job. A podcast “geek”, Allie was instrumental in bringing “the Call” to fruition which gave her an opportunity to help Angela bring the stories to life. “The Call” is a podcast whose mission is telling the stories of First Responders. Stories that never get shared. Be it a life altering situation for a community member, something inspirational they did, or even something scary, the stories get told from their own perspective. Angela and Allie have interviewed a Phoenix PD officer shot in line of duty and completed a series on the Miranda Rights featuring Carol Cooley, who was the arresting officer behind the Miranda case. Allie said that growing up her dad seemed invincible. He had stories he shared, but it was through the stories he told on “The Call” she learned what his career had been like. She heard, for the first time, about a roof that had collapsed while he was alone on the third floor of a club, fighting a dangerous fire, when he thought he was going to die. Through these insane stories she realized that her father and other First Responders aren't invincible. Both Angela and Allie knew that a podcast was a great way to humanize the work the First Responders do every day by telling their stories. As President of the 100 Club, Angela has concerns for the mental health of all First Responders. Her goal is that through storytelling, “The Call” podcast, and the work done by the 100 Club, support can be provided. She goes on to say, “We are the men and women that stand behind the men and women that wear the badge.” Angela explains that First Responders cannot have a bad day when they show up for a call. Instead, they continually carry the weight of their experiences on their shoulders. And it can accumulate Angela is proud of the 100 Club and the outlets they provide for both the physical injuries you can see and those injuries that are not seen, like PTSD. The 100 Club offers great resources like Bulletproof.org, a 24-7 support line dedicated to public safety officers with specially trained call takers. DPS officers, especially law enforcement, are often sent out on their own, with no one to talk to. They go from call to call with no time to decompress. Angela goes on to say that not only is it important for them to decompress, but it is important for the family to have support as well. The goal is to have online health and wellness tools available to them all. One story Angela shares is about her husband's close friend and colleague, who was asked to fly up to the rescue site after her husband's death and put his friend's body in the body bag. Afterwards, he kept checking on Angela to see how she was doing. This officer, an honor guard, would let Angela know he was okay and that everything was good. Yet just two years later, he took his own life. Sometimes everything they have to do and see is too much. First Responders are human. Angela acknowledges the community. People want to help. So, she reminds us to just say “Thank You”. The post Beyond the Call: First Responders Share Their Stories appeared first on Inspired Media 360 TV - Inform | Inspire | Engage.

113: Grief Is A Natural Part of Life

Productive Flourishing

Play Episode Listen Later Oct 28, 2016 59:13

Today Angela joins me again for a jam and we’re talking about grief, transitions and health. This comes because we have gone through some death and grieving recently and it’s something that people ask Angela about a lot, and I do get questions sometimes, so we’re going to go ahead and do a jam about the subject. Ready? Let’s do this!   Key Takeaways: [0:54] Charlie and Angela introduce the show with some personal insight on why they chose to address these often overlooked hard issues that do come up in life. [3:09] Angela opens up on her recent loss and the gifts and blessings that came with that process of passing and the importance of opening up a discussion about grief and loss. [5:07] Grief is often portrayed as a life shattering thing, and we rarely address smaller scale grief — a child going to college, or getting over who we thought we might be. [7:58] The way each person experiences grief is unique and very personal, and what may be a “big G” experience for you, could be a “small g” experience for another. [11:40] Because each person processes grief uniquely, the multitude of possible definitions is acknowledged even as a broader definition is offered. [14:14] The feeling of loss, in all of its forms, will be positively correlated to the energy and meaning that we have vested those people, things and concepts that we feel we’ve lost. [20:11] It’s important to note that it is perfectly normal if grief is never completely resolved, even if it is less frequent and painful, it may come up for years. [25:04] Unhealthy grief happens and can be fueled, among other things, sudden loss, remorse, lack of inner resources or unhealthy boundaries in dealing with grief. [35:50] Healthy versus unhealthy grieving could be defined by the act of processing versus not processing, the important thing is to stop and acknowledge the loss and begin a process. [39:50] Having rituals is very important and affords us a space in which to grieve. [41:21] Charlie and Angela touch on some ideas about what to do when you aren’t certain how to help someone when they are grieving. [42:50] We wait for crises and emergencies to find out who our friends are, but if we did that when it wasn’t an emergency, we would be better equipped to help them. [48:56] If someone grieving is able to ask for something specific, especially if they ask for time and space, it is important to respect it and to not take it personal. [53:39] Grief also impacts teens and children and they need help and support in a most tangible way because they're not yet emotionally mature. [56:00] Grief is a natural part of life — good and bad emotions are part of life — even if it isn’t easy.   Mentioned in This Episode: Episode 75 with Kathy Kortes-Miller Episode 58 with Christine Meekhof The 5 Love Languages Live Your Legend -- Scott Dinsmore Creative Giant Campfire Facebook Group

In Today’s Episode How to Create Your Facebook Advertising - 3 Types of Ads to Consider Boosted posts Facebook tracks everything that you do It uses the information to build a database of your interests and likes It also measures what you do off of Facebook, like clicking on links or spending time on a website As a marketer, you have that information available to you Facebook determines objectives for each type of post The objective of a boosted post is to get engagement on that post within the Facebook platform, someone liking, commenting, or sharing that post If you want to get people to a blog post on your website a boosted post is not the best way to do that At Dotti Media, we used a boosted post to get feedback from our Facebook fan page because we wanted engagement on that Facebook post Before you click on the boosted post button, be sure of what action you want to take Clicks to website ads From Facebook’s perspective, these are designed to get people to click out to your website They will show the ad to people who have historically clicked out to other websites To set up a clicks to website ad Click the link in your status update Paste the URL of your website post in the status update box Then go to the Facebook Ads Manager or Power Editor to set up the Clicks to Website Ad Website conversion ads The difference between a clicks to website ad and a website conversion ad is that with the website conversion ad, you want a user to take an action on your website There is a bit more to set these up because you need to install the tracking pixel - a piece of code on your website that allows Facebook to track visitors on your website This is a powerful Facebook ad, and it can give you powerful insight into your audience Full Transcript Expand to view full transcript Compress to smaller transcript view Darren: Hi there, it’s Darren from ProBlogger here. I know some of you are probably about to hit the stop button because you’re not interested in Facebook in terms of advertising because you're all about organic, that’s great, that’s totally fine. We’ve actually got an episode on organic Facebook reach coming up soon. But as most bloggers are aware, Facebook has been putting more and more emphasis into advertising as a way to reach your followers. So, it is something that I know many of you are grappling with. One of the great things about Facebook advertising is that it isn’t something you need to invest a whole heap of money into. It can be something that you can get into for just a few dollars and it can have immediate results on your side. I don’t do a lot of Facebook advertising, but we over the last year have put more emphasis into it particularly when we’ve been launching products or when I have a key blog post that I ne...
