#353: We've spent this entire visibility series talking about what it means to be seen — in your career, in your work, in the world. But this final episode brings it all the way home, because the most personal version of that question lives inside your closest friendships. We all want to feel seen by the people who know us best. And this week's guest shows us exactly how complicated that gets when a wedding is involved.I'm joined by Ru Wolle, journalist and author of I Hope You Elope. After feeling financially and emotionally stretched by the obligations of being a bridesmaid, Ru made a decision that went viral — and sparked a conversation so many of us were quietly waiting to have. We get into the ways wedding culture has turned friendship into a loyalty test, how unspoken expectations create resentment, and why so many women walk away from a wedding weekend having lost a friendship they thought would last forever. This one hit. I think you're going to feel very seen — which feels like exactly the right note to end this series on.This episode is for you if...You've ever said yes to something when every part of you wanted to say "can we talk about this first?"You've felt the financial pressure of wedding culture but didn't know how to name itYou're navigating a friendship where something big went unsaidYou want to celebrate the people you love — without it costing you the friendshipWe talk about:Why friendships get tested hardest around major life events — and what's really underneath thatThe unspoken expectations that quietly build resentment between even the closest friendsHow social media has changed what we feel like we owe each other in big seasonsWhat honest communication actually looks like when the stakes feel too high to say anythingEpisode Links:Follow Ru on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ru_wolle/Read I Hope You Elope — A Bridesmaid Survival Guide: https://bookshop.org/a/55347/9781668095683Sponsors:Nebula: Go to Nebula: Spiritual Guidance Space https://nebulaapp.onelink.me/AaEA/nskvi42c and get 3 minutes for free to chat with 3 psychics matched to you.Momentous: Momentous Fiber+ is a complete, 3-in-1 formula with soluble fiber, insoluble fiber, and a prebiotic resistant starch. We live in a world more connected than ever, yet many of us still feel deeply lonely. In week one of our new sermon series, Why Can't We Be Friends?, Pastor Casey Olsen explores what true friendship really is and why we were created for relationship with God and with one another.Looking at John 15, we see the incredible invitation of Jesus: “I have called you friends.” Friendship with God is not shallow, casual, or distant. It is rooted in His revelation, covenant love, and our trust-filled obedience. In this sermon, Pastor Casey reminds us that the gospel is not merely an invitation into religion, rules, or belief systems—it is an invitation into restored friendship with God through Jesus Christ. The friendship lost in Eden has been restored in Christ, the true Friend of sinners. In this message:Why loneliness is so common in a connected worldWhat the Bible teaches about friendship with GodWhy Jesus calls His disciples friendsHow friendship with Jesus shapes our human friendshipsWhy we were made for deeper community and connectionScripture: John 15:12–17Series: Why Can't We Be Friends?Speaker: Pastor Casey OlsenMessage: What Friendship Really IsIf this message encouraged you, like, comment, subscribe, and share it with someone who needs to be reminded that Jesus calls them friend.#FriendshipWithGod #John15 #ChristianFriendship #Sermon #PastorCaseyOlsen #WhyCantWeBeFriends #JesusCallsUsFriends #ChristianCommunity #MadeForFriendship #ChurchSermon

What does real friendship actually look like? Not the kind built on convenience. Not the kind that disappears when life gets heavy. But the kind that stays. The kind that sharpens. The kind that lifts you when you can't stand on your own.In this episode of When the Scriptures Become Real, we explore the beauty of biblical friendship — the friend who loves at all times (Book of Proverbs 17:17), the strength of walking together (Book of Ecclesiastes 4:9–10), and the ultimate example of friendship found in Jesus (Gospel of John 15:13–15).We'll talk about:Why adversity reveals true friendsHow real friends sharpen your faithWhen love requires honestyAnd why you were never meant to walk aloneIf you've ever felt alone, disappointed in friendships, or unsure who truly has your back — this episode is for you.Because when Scripture becomes real, you begin to see that godly friendship isn't rare by accident… it's sacred by design.https://www.heavenlybreadcoffee.com

Daisy and Friends Outside Our Window is a rhyming story for toddlers and pre-kindergarteners about the changing seasons. It's written from inside the house window looking out, as seen by Daisy the cat, and her three dog friends, Smokie, Rocky, and H-Dee.What do the friends see, when the colorful seasons change from winter to spring, and summer to fall?A portion of the proceeds from the Daisy and Friends book series benefits three charities: Kitty Angels, a no-kill cat shelter in Coventry, Connecticut; Protectors of Animals, a no-kill animal shelter and rescue, and Bandit's Place, Inc., a pet rescue and adoption center, both in East Hartford, Connecticut. This is the third book in the series. Her next book is on transportation and is titled Daisy and Friends Waiting for the School Bus.Barbara J. Meredith retired from Kids Express Learning Center & Daycare, LLC in 2013. She was co-owner, director, and head teacher for 14 years. Her first book in the series was Daisy and Friends: How to Stay Healthy. "The animals in this book are my actual pets. The inspiration for the books came from over 20 years as a pre-school teacher observing children's behaviors."

What would happen if you started showing up like you — exactly as you are — were already enough? In this episode of Empowering Her, I'm getting real about something I call “fix-it culture.” It's the sneaky belief that we (or the people we love) are broken and need repairing before we can live our fullest lives. Spoiler alert: it's an illusion — and it's exhausting. This conversation was sparked by a private coaching session where I kept hearing the phrase “fix it.” It got me thinking about how deeply this mindset is baked into our self-talk, parenting, and even our work as mentors and coaches. So today, we're breaking it down and reframing it completely. Here's what we explore:The illusion of brokenness and how society trains us to believe we're incompleteWhy wholeness is our birthright — we are born with nothing missing and nothing wrongSwapping “fix it” language for “evolve” — the powerful shift from lack to growthA reflection on Coldplay's Fix You and why love isn't about repairThe truth that we can't “fix” anyone — not our kids, not our clients, not our friendsHow parents, coaches, and girls' empowerment leaders can hold space without trying to solve or repairThe impact of modeling self-love and personal evolution instead of perfectionReframe questions to try this week for yourself and the people you leadAnd… I share a little teaser about Book Baby #3, coming out next week! This one is for children and the grown-ups who love them — a beautiful tool for connection you can share with the kids in your life.Let's Stay Connected! As an empowerment coach, author, twin girl mom, and the creator of the GiRLiFE Academy, my mission is to help every woman and girl discover her voice and live a life that lights her up from the inside out.I'd love to connect with you and continue this beautiful journey together!

When the offspring is so hideous and so dreadful! John Angell James, "Sorrow for the Death of Friends"How dreadful is the nature of sin! Sin is the parent of death. Death is the first-born of sin. What must be the parent--when the offspring is so hideous and so dreadful! Who can have watched the harbingers of death--the groans, the pains, the dying strife--without being struck with the fearful nature of man's revolt from God?Death in itself, and by itself--is horrid and revolting! To see all this inflicted upon a Christian, a child of God, an heir of glory; to see no way even to the kingdom of God, to the realms of immortality, but this dark valley of corruption, earth, and worms--this gives us a most impressive idea of the dreadful nature of sin! How such scenes should enlarge our views of the malignity of sin, and embitter our hearts against it!O sin--sin! What have you done!

In today's episode, Paige is joined by Jennifer Pepito, host of the Restoration Home podcast, founder of The Peaceful Press, and author of the new book Habits for a Sacred Home. As a mother of seven, Jennifer shares her insights on what it truly means to create a ‘sacred' home (and why it's not as daunting as it sounds). Together, they explore the importance of intentionality in instilling strong values in children, how to establish “Rules of Life” for your family, and the significance of entrusting your children to God, who ultimately holds their future. If you're in a toxic or negative work environment, are you in a position to make a change? Do you overwork when it's not necessary? Take a look at what is necessary in your work life and what you can change. How can we teach our children these habits and values?Be intentional! Dr. Catrise understands the connection between dental health and mental health and we discussed the importance of having a culturally competent dentist that you can trust to open up to and talk about anxiety and low self-esteem with regards to dental health. Teri Johnson is an award-winning entrepreneur and owner of Harlem Candle Company and Harlem Perfume Company and she uses African American History to illuminatemhomes across the world with her elegant candles, fragrances and designs that are inspired by the Harlem renaissance. She talked about how success as a black woman entrepreneur comes with highs and lows.On this episode we discuss how Black Women should support each other and uplift each other because they often have to work twice as hard for their businesses to survive and they don't get the same level of financial funding as other business owners. Many of black women owned businesses are self-funded and were severely impacted by 202. As a black woman entrepreneur and doctor, Dr. Judith personally understands the importance of supporting black women owned businesses because entrepreneurs deal with a whole host of mental health issues because they tend to take care of everyone else but themselves. This puts them at risk for High functioning depression because they worry about the needs of their clients, employees and their families and they feel like they cannot slow down because they are needed by so many.Listen in as we discuss:Supporting Black Women Owned Businesses.Coping with High Functioning Depression as an EntrepreneurHow to take risks as a physician business owner. How to build relationships in business. How to form long lasting friendshipsHow to check-in with your friendsHow to take care of your mental health as a small business owner How to Ask For Help and SupportFollow Dr. Catrise Austin Instagram WebsiteFollow Teri Johnson Instagram WebsiteFollow Dr. Judith Joseph: Instagram TikTok Facebook Website Newsletter Sign-UpDisclaimer: Consider your individual mental health needs with a licensed medicalprofessional. On the heals of a very significant friendship ending for me in the last few years, the nature of friendship — what drives our friendships, what they look like, how our relational patterns manifest in this space (i.e. outside of romance) — has been of particular interest to me.Today I'm joined by my dear Catherine Zack, a friend made in the last few years but a really close one (something we'll get into in today's episode). We dig into a variety of things around friendship, including:How does friendship change in your 30s and 40s?The role of friends in relation to our marriages (Hint: They're really necessary)How connection and socializing looks different in the midst of really busy lives — and how that's okHow friends can (and should) have different rolesThe evolving nature of childhood, college and earlier life friendsHow motherhood impacts friendshipThe ending of friendships....and more. Today's episode is all about holding space – and it's a poignant reminder of the importance of friendship and how it can profoundly affect our lives, even after a friend has passed away.Michelle Cecil is here to vulnerably share her story about her friendship with Erica.Michelle and Erica's friendship blossomed in their youth and grew stronger as they navigated the ups and downs of adulthood. Their relationship faced the ultimate test when Erica was diagnosed with metastatic melanoma. Throughout the episode, Michelle recounts the joys and heartbreaks of their journey and how she found support. We also delve into the complexities of grieving a friend, including the lack of societal recognition for these losses and the unique challenges it poses. This episode truly left me speechless. Join us as we share space and honor the memory of Erica, while celebrating the beauty of lifelong friendships.P.S. In this solo episode, I celebrate my two year anniversary of being alcohol-free with a deep dive into my decision to stop drinking, my background with alcohol growing up, and where I stand now on this decision that started out as a temporary experiment. I share how I suspected I didn't enjoy drinking in college and post-college years like other people, how the effects of alcohol changed after my concussion, and why I felt angry and disempowered when I couldn't drink after my accident. I also talk about how I moved from a disempowered choice to an empowered choice, why being hungover as a parent was a game changer for my decision, and how I have discovered an inner confidence and self-trust I didn't have before. Finally, I answer listener questions like whether I ever miss drinking, how alcohol affects my mental health versus other substances, how I navigate events with friends and being around people who are drinking, and much more.Key Takeaway / Points:My upbringing with alcohol and experience drinking in collegeFeeling like I didn't enjoy alcohol as much as everyone elseOn implementing Sober Mondays into my routineOn the effects of alcohol changing after my concussionOn moving from feeling disempowered to making an empowered decision to stop drinkingOn the gamechanger of being hungover as a parentOn finding inner confidence and self-trust from this decisionOn whether I miss drinkingOn not drawing the line in the sand for future decisionsHow alcohol affects my mental health differently than other substancesWhat I order when out with friendsHow to navigate events like bachelorette parties when not drinkingOn people pressuring you to drink and examining those relationshipsOn the confidence boost of knowing I enjoy myself as I amAny noticeable changes I've felt since not drinkingListen to my past episodes on stopping drinking here and hereThis episode may contain paid endorsements and advertisements for products and services. Proverbs 22:6 KJV But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal. Matthew 6:20 NASB I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. Romans 8:18 NIV Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 NIV And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way. Ephesians 1:22-23 NIV For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives. Colossians 1:9 NIV If they had been thinking of the country they had left, they would have had opportunity to return. Instead, they were longing for a better country—a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them. This tackles a tough topic, but I think a very, very important one in today’s world—sex trafficking. I am here with Jimmy Rex, who spends his time trying to make a difference in the world, serving as an undercover operative for various organizations that rescue people from sex trafficking. He’s also an active real estate agent with one of the most sought-after real estate coaching programs in the country and has his own podcast called “The Jimmy Rex Show” that shows extraordinary people living extraordinary lives. Today, we talk about how he’s worked on 12 different operations to rescue people and how this is a widespread problem in many US cities and worldwide. We also discuss how technology is a major avenue for trafficking, why sex trafficking doesn’t always look like you think it would, what to watch for, and how to talk to your kids about it. I think that you will learn a lot. I know I did and didn’t realize quite how widespread and horrific this problem is.
