Hello everyone! Happy Friday. In this segment we do a full reading for the month of September. We will look at important dates and transits so that we can plan what to expect for the month to come on a global and personal level. Get out your pens and notepads to take note of these dates - because we are in for some interesting months ahead! For much of 2020 Jupiter was in the sign of Capricorn. Since April of 2021, Jupiter has been moving through Aquarius where it has given new medical advances and new ways of viewing the health care system. Come September, Jupiter will retrograde BACK into Capricorn - where we will be asked to review the structures and systems within our lives. In this segment we discuss how this may show up in the global and personal sense. I hope it helps! As the pandemic spring has turned into the pandemic summer—and with no sign of abating once fall arrives—Americans are beginning to grapple with how the disease will change daily life forever. Across the country, empty streets and empty office towers don’t just mean a change in how we work—entire communities have relocated to new places.“Reopen the economy” has entered the pantheon of American political catchphrases. And while white collar workers may reap the benefits of a post-COVID world—one in which employers recognize that—with a powerful enough internet connection, anyone can work from home—blue collar workers won’t see those benefits. But it’s not just in the workplace. Medicine and education are also being rethought in real time. Come September, school will look radically different than it did a year ago—but who are the students that stand to gain from at-home learning? How can we ensure that all students—regardless of race and family wealth—can thrive while learning digitally? And how do we make sure that doctor’s appointments conducted over the internet are accessible to everyone who needs care? One day the pandemic will end. But before that happens, we need to make sure that the world it leaves in its wake is a just and equitable one. Finding the answers to these questions is the first step.In this episode, CTI Senior Fellow Darrell West hosts a conversation with Annelies Goger, a David M. Rubenstein Fellow in the Metropolitan Policy Program, and Makada Henry-Nickie, a fellow in Governance Studies. The three discuss how COVID-19 is impacting employment, healthcare, and education during pandemic-related shutdowns and how its effects may be felt in these areas long after the virus subsides. Today Angela and Patti will be discussing the hot topic of social media and how it can affect relationships. We are concerned about how social media can cause hurt feelings, depression, addiction to social media, and comparison. Here are some reflection questions: What makes people feel it’s okay to post things that they would most likely never say face to face or outside of social media?   Where does this boldness or insensitivity come from?   Is proving your point worth all the drama and losing friendships over? Today, we would like to explore how to manage some of those difficult behaviors. How do we relate to social media in a healthy way? Are you taking a break from social media because it is “too toxic?" What do you find frustrating about social media, what makes it so toxic to you?  We love to hear from listeners if they could share what they find disappointing about social media, why not leave us a comment. To the Listeners: What are some of the things you ENJOY seeing on social media. What do you love seeing?  Angela:  I love healing meditations and I share those because I love them. What do you love seeing?  Maybe you can share a comment on the podcast and let us know. Patti: I love seeing photos of families having fun together, vacation photos, travel adventures and cute positive memes. In a previous podcast (episode 4) we discussed going Beyond Comparison and Accepting One Self. “Cancel culture refers to the popular practice of withdrawing support for (canceling) public figures and companies after they have done or said something considered objectionable or offensive. Cancel culture is generally discussed as being performed on social media in the form of group shaming.” https://www.dictionary.com/e/pop-culture/cancel-culture/ Patti wrote a blog posts similar to this subject called Don’t Be That Guy!    It is about shaming someone or making them the poster child in the workplace. When someone has committed a bad behavior or done something procedurally wrong, in some organizations, they use this term “Don’t be that (Guy) Person” for humiliation or an example of what not to do. I feel this is similar to the cancel culture. In the blog post is a poll.  With this question - Is shaming an effective management strategy? In this episode, Tamara K. Anderson shares how scared she really was to start podcasting and the tips and goals which helped her overcome this fear. Tamara K. Anderson: How I Overcame My Fear to PodcastingI am so excited to announce an epic change in the Stories of Hope in Hard Times podcast. Starting today, I will be launching an episode every week on Wednesday. This is helpful for you because now you get twice the content. Sometimes I will take an episode to tell additional stories and expound upon the previous episode (like I will do today). These episodes will be considerably shorter than our typical episodes. Other times I might just launch a new episode every week. Last week I interviewed Alan Gulledge (https://tamarakanderson.com/episodes/alan-gulledge-setting-goals-facing-fears-and-recovering-with-faith/) and we talked about his bike crash and we talked about the fear that went along with setting new goals as Alan tried to build his body back. I wanted to kind of piggyback onto that story and tell you a story from my own life. And that story is actually the story of the launch of this podcast. Overcoming Fears Launching This PodcastIn January of 2018 I decided I would spend that year learning all about podcasting and take all the steps necessary so that I could launch my podcast in January of 2019. I hit the ground running. I named my podcast (with your help), Stories of Hope in Hard Times. Then, I had my logo for my podcast professionally designed and people voted on it. And I even picked a format for my podcast. I spent a lot of time, learning about podcasting, from professionals like John Lee Dumas. I even recorded my first podcasting episodes of May of 2018. StallingAnd then in June I hit this dead stop when my kids got out of school. I made this conscious decision just stop and not do anything during the summer. Believe it or not I even stopped doing social media. Come September, I got my kids back in school and I started just really reexamining where I was with my life and what my goals were. Then I remembered the podcasting goal and I realized I was scared to death to start and launch this podcast. It really freaked me out and that's why I had stopped and had not made any progress. JournalingI really had to pause and think and write about it. In fact, I even drew a picture in my journal. (https://tamarakanderson.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/Screen-Shot-2018-12-28-at-3.30.40-PM.png) Here is what I wrote, "This is how I feel. My fear is real and it's keeping me stuck on my path." And so there I was--little me stuck on the path of this mountain that I wanted to climb. But there was this huge word in my way which said FEAR. Where to FocusAnd I learned that while I was looking at the fear, I couldn't move forward. It was too scary. I'd had some experiences where I was picked on and bullied when I was a kid. And so I, I realized that I had to raise my sights a little bit higher and start thinking of my WHY: What are the benefits of the podcast? Who will this help? And set my sights on that. I realized that this podcast had the potential to help people who are struggling to help people who have lost their hope. And as I focused on the benefit of doing the goal and not the fear itself (basically focusing on faith and I believed the outcome could be), then I was finally able to move forward again. I really had to detail a lot of this in my journal and figure it out. Podcast LaunchI launched Stories of Hope in Hard Times in January of 2019 and it felt so good to accomplish that goal. But it also felt good to not have that fear incapacitate me anymore. The Power of Fear and How to Overcome itAs imperfect people, we have goals that we set and get excited about and then all of a sudden we stop. And it's often because there's an underlying fear. So if you're setting goals this year and you're finding yourself at a stopping point, stop and examine that fear. Maybe

Like a supernova, the summer of ‘69 was a burst of unprecedented prolific energy from the world’s brightest band. But the end was near. Following another fruitful bed-in for peace, this time in Montreal Canada, John and Yoko record and release a new anthem for the peace movement: Give Peace A Chance. The song carried the Lennon/McCartney writing credit, a rare peace-offering from John to Paul in one of the most trying periods of their lives. As The Beatles put the final touches on their forthcoming album, known for a time as “Everest”, their commercial successes continued to mount. The #1 hit single Get Back was barely out for a few months before it was quickly followed by another #1 hit single: The Ballad of John and Yoko. Like just about everything else John Lennon did in 1969, the tune’s lyrical reference to crucifixion carried with it some controversy and some radio stations opted not to play it for that very reason. George, meanwhile, championed another Apple group called The Radha Krishna Temple, producing for them a song called Hare Krishna Mantra and fulfilling his promise to bring world music to the pop world. Paul and Linda welcomed daughter Mary to the world, traveling to Scotland where the ever-growing family would find respite from Apple’s ever-worsening business troubles. Come September, John and Yoko found themselves performing live on stage with Eric Clapton, Klaus Voormann and Alan White as the Plastic Ono Band for a rock and roll revival concert in Toronto. Aboard the plane, and to the rest of his bandmates later on the eve of their new album’s release, John Lennon announced he would be quitting The Beatles... Some avoid chaos by keeping everyone at arms length - your kids feel it, your spouse and friends know it, you do it because you’re trying to stay out of the mess.

These 4 Reasons Make Fall a Great Time to Sell Your Home

Austin Real Estate Podcast with Rosie Hayer

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 23, 2018

Here are the top four reasons why fall is a great time to list your home: 1. There’s a more serious buyer pool. The spring housing market is sure to bring out plenty of buyers, but a lot of them may hold off on making an offer. With more homes to choose from, they can afford to be picky and extend their search for months. Come September, those same buyers will feel the pressure to move into their new home before the holidays start or the weather takes a turn for the worse. That’s where you come in. To prepare your house for the market during the fall, amp up the curb appeal–fix up the front porch, rake the leaves, and clean the gutters. If everything’s well-maintained, your home will be ready when the buyers are. 2. There’s less competition. Fall buyers not only have the stress of the holidays looming over their heads, but their options are also shrinking. Since many sellers rush to close by September, you’ll be competing in a much smaller market. That could be a very powerful bargaining chip to help you close by the end of the year. Fall and winter photos run the risk of making your home look a little drab, so take some bright, clean photos of it during the summer and use those to showcase it. That will really make it stand out to serious buyers. “If everything’s well-maintained, your home will be ready when the buyers are.” 3. There are different buyer demographics. While families are more likely to make their move during the spring, millennials and empty-nesters are more likely to make a decision later in the year in order to avoid the higher level of competition and the higher real estate grades. Employers who have to relocate their employees out of state also typically wait until fall to do so. When the market cools down, these out-of-towners will probably need to get through the buying process as quickly as possible, which can mean a speedy sale for you. To prepare for this demographic, it’s important to stage your home. For example, empty-nesters aren’t looking for 3-bedroom homes, so if your home has three bedrooms, try converting one of them into an exercise room or a work space. Millennial couples, on the other had, might want a nursery or a space for their future baby. Let each buyer see how your home fits their needs. 4. There’s more flexibility for improvements. Depending on where you live, spring and summer can be a much-needed break from a harsh winter, and your home could potentially use some TLC. Use those warmer months to make some improvements. You can schedule these improvements in between weekend getaways. Small renovations done from time to time can really cut down on the effort required to get your house ready. Before the winter months hit and the temperature drops drastically, it may be a good idea to get your HVAC unit checked. If you have any more questions about the benefits of selling your home in the fall or you have any other real estate needs, don’t hesitate to reach out to me. I’d be happy to help you.
