That's because, as Bloodworks 101 producer John Yeager found out, Patu owes his life to that "little thing." And wait til you hear what the impact of that one man's life turned out to be.

On this episode Fridge is joined by our head of Marketing Sayre Piotrkowski, Marketing Coordinator Bob Waegner, HenHouse CEO Collin McDonnel, and the Head Brewer of Urban Family Brewing Max Peterson and they're talking all about our recent English-Style Mild Ale collab beer In Our Mildest Dreams. This OG session ale from across the pond has never tasted better to put it mildly. Urban Family was founded in Seattle in 2016, Specializing in opaque ales and delivering 21st century flavor experiences. Funny enough our paths crossed initially via a kindly worded cease & desist letter, which actually led to our first collaboration, a pina colada inspired kettle sour ale that was part of their “Vape Lord” series of fruited kettle sour beers which we featured on Unruffled before. We couldn't be more STOKED to have made another deliciously esoteric brew and podcast with these fine Seattleites. Cheers!

Recently Adam sat down with Andy Gundel of Urban Family Brewing Co., a friend and a neighbor, who has a unique perspective for a brewery owner: he took over an existing business and has taken it to new heights. Andy discusses his path towards brewery ownership, the changes he's led over the years (including moving in next door to our brewery earlier this year), the impact of COVID-19, and their future plans (which include self-distribution).
This week we bring you a little bit of gushy love talk, lots of laughs and what really makes up an Urban Family from the Sydney in-house mwah. team!
Justin built a brewery that all our other brewer friends keep telling us about. Standard brewing is making great beer out of a great pub in the Central District. It's a neighborhood focused spot with a top tier chef and old Seattle feel. We talk about community focused spots, how Seattle is changing, and how he's had to make some tough decisions to make the best pub he can for the neighborhood. Thank you to Urban Family Brewing for letting us hang out with them! We had an awesome time. Urban Family is a whole new brewery from when it opened boasting the same great name. We talked about Andy’s journey in taking it over with Isaac, essentially rebooting the brewery. We talked beer (of course), distribution, brewing, community, and creativity. From their website: We’re a small craft brewery located in the Magnolia neighborhood of Seattle. We have an eclectic focus on creating beer and strive constantly for innovation. You may not see the same beer every time you visit but we try to utilize fresh ingredients, complex yeast strains, and interesting hop profiles. We were founded on the principles of creating something as a family. Working together to make beer that represents who we are, and what we love. We may not all be related, but family is what you make it. They did not brew the same beer twice in 2017! Furthermore, we ate cheese together. Also, Patrick is a marine biologist, he wants a centrifuge, and he hates the music you listened to in high school. Urban Family is a brewery known for its sour beers, though this wasn't always the case. Their history isn't quite as cut and dry as some of the other local breweries. They have undergone a few ownership changes as well as completely changed direction from their "Urban Family Public House" origins. The family of friends for which Urban Family is named aren't even all still involved, but that doesn't stop this week's guest, Andy Gundel, from taking names and kicking ass. Guided by him, talented brewers and a couple other partners, Urban Family has grown into a Seattle staple, even if it is a little hard to find. This brewery is located right on the Ship Canal Trail, which puts it right on the map for the Bike and Brew map that we've just created! Visit Urban Family, Mollusk, Rooftop, Figurehead, Old Stove and Belltown Brewery and get your stamps so you can score your own "Beer is Better With a Bike" T-shirt.
Interview with Andy Gundel of Urban Family Brewing Company out of Seattle Washington. We dive in with Andy about the growth and vision of Urban Family and the waves they are making in the Washington beer scene. The Coven enjoys a few beers with Andy and gives brief sensory analysis of the brews.
We don't know beans about some stuff, but we do know a lot about nothing. This week we try 2 beers from Bale Breaker Brewing and an imperial from Urban Family. Jason bickers with Sam and then Sam makes Jason uncomfortable. Cheers!!
