If you listen to many Christian preachers, the impression is given that if you can just come up with the right formula in prayer, God will grant you the blessing you want and the health and healing that you need. And while I certainly believe in healing, I do not believe that God's divine healing ought to be the starting point for thinking about a healthy lifestyle. To optimize good health and to live the abundant life that Christ offers, we must practice what we pray for. After Jesus forgave, freed, or healed the woman caught in adultery, He told her to go and not keep doing what she had been doing. The same is true for us if we want to be healthy, if we want to be well. So how do we get well? That's what we're going to dive into today.

The sermon explored the enduring message of the hymn 'It Is Well,' tracing its origins in the profound loss experienced by Horatio Spafford, whose life mirrored the biblical story of Job. Examining Spafford's biography alongside the hymn's theological underpinnings, the message emphasized finding contentment and assurance in Christ regardless of circumstances, even amidst personal tragedy and questionable life choices. While acknowledging the author's later controversial actions and theological shifts, the sermon ultimately affirmed the hymn's timeless truth and the enduring power of faith in the face of adversity, encouraging listeners to find solace and hope in God's unwavering presence and the promise of eternal life.

Do your daily actions match what you claim are your priorities? In this thought-provoking episode, Jesse Cope challenges us to examine the gap between what we say matters and how we actually spend our time and energy. The reality is stark—we can tell our children, spouses, or even God that they're our priority, but if we're not investing quality time with them while finding hours for social media, sports, or entertainment, our true values are revealed. As Jesse powerfully notes, "There comes a point at which everybody knows we don't really care."Through a compelling exploration of 1 Corinthians 15, we discover the transformative hope of resurrection—both Christ's historical resurrection and our promised spiritual renewal. This chapter reminds us that Christian hope isn't just for eternity but provides meaning and purpose in our present struggles. Jesse highlights Paul's remarkable transformation from persecutor to apostle as evidence that no sin is beyond God's forgiveness through Christ. The podcast draws fascinating parallels between America's founding struggles and our current national divisions, suggesting we face similar fundamental choices about liberty and national character. Through historical perspectives from Ezra Stiles and Mercy Otis Warren, alongside accounts from Fox's Book of Martyrs, Jesse illuminates the dangers when religious or political institutions claim infallibility and refuse correction.Perhaps most compelling is the reminder that we serve as living representatives of everything we claim to value. As Jesse once told his Marines: "You may be the only Marine somebody ever meets, and whatever impression you make will become their opinion of the entire Marine Corps." Similarly, Christians may be "the only Bible some people ever read" through their daily actions and character. The episode concludes with an inspiring call to spread the gospel as America's true hope for renewal. By living our faith authentically, supporting those ministering in challenging environments, and reclaiming education centered on timeless values, we can influence our culture far more effectively than through political means alone.Support the showThe American Soul Podcasthttps://www.buzzsprout.com/1791934/subscribe

In the wake of unimaginable personal loss, Haratio Spafford wrote the well known hymn: "It Is Well with My Soul.” Spafford's story, marked by grief and tragedy, invites us to explore how we can find shalom amidst life's deepest sorrows. Drawing on Scripture, including the rabbinic idea of God's Shekinah (abiding presence), we discover two enduring truths that enable us to say, “It is well with my soul.” First, God is with us, holding our hand through our pain.  And second, He is making all things right.  To learn more, check out…

Send us a textIn this timely and special episode of The Beached White Male Podcast, host Ken Kemp welcomes back his trusted friend and guest, Betsey Newenhuyse, for a deep dive into the emotional and spiritual challenges of our current political climate. As the nation grapples with division and uncertainty, Ken and Betsey explore how faith, friendship, and personal reflection can serve as vital coping mechanisms.Their conversation is framed by two compelling pieces of writing: an essay by the celebrated storyteller Garrison Keillor and Katherine Stewart's powerful new book, Money, Lies, and God: Inside the Movement to Destroy American Democracy. Keillor's reflections on friendship, place, worship, and prayer provide a sense of comfort and nostalgia—reminding us of the grounding forces in our lives that help us weather difficult times. Meanwhile, Stewart's investigative work exposes the dangerous political forces seeking to manipulate faith for power, offering a sobering counterpoint to the more personal and spiritual aspects of the discussion.Ken and Betsey reflect on the tension between these two perspectives—the solace found in spiritual traditions versus the urgent need to confront political realities that threaten democratic values. Through honest conversation, they explore how people of conscience can stay engaged without losing hope, how faith communities can be both a refuge and a call to action, and how, even in the midst of turmoil, we can still proclaim, “It is well with my soul.”The Three Tenors perform “It Is Well With My Soul” in Bath, EnglandBecome a Patron | Ken's Substack PageSupport the showBecome a Patron - Click on the link to learn how you can become a Patron of the show. Mack Wilberg). The Tabernacle Choir Life can be so unpredictable—joys and sorrows, beautiful blessings and distressing difficulties, can come unexpectedly. Our life's dreams and plans can change in an instant. We all know this to be true. So how can we find peace amid such turbulence? Horatio Spafford knew something about life's unexpected challenges. He was a successful attorney and real estate investor who lost a fortune in the great Chicago fire of 1871. Around the same time, his beloved four-year-old son died of scarlet fever. Thinking a vacation would do his family some good, he sent his wife and four daughters on a ship to England, planning to join them after he finished some pressing business at home. However, while crossing the Atlantic Ocean, the ship was involved in a terrible collision and sunk. More than 200 people lost their lives, including all four of Horatio Spafford's precious daughters. His wife, Anna, survived the tragedy. Upon arriving in England, she sent a telegram to her husband that began: “Saved alone. What shall I do?” Horatio immediately set sail for England. At one point during his voyage, the captain of the ship, aware of the tragedy that had struck the Spafford family, summoned Horatio to tell him that they were now passing over the spot where the shipwreck had occurred. As Horatio thought about his daughters, words of comfort and hope filled his heart and mind. He wrote them down, and they have since become a well-beloved hymn: When peace like a river, attendeth my way, When sorrows like sea billows roll— Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to know It is well, it is well with my soul. Perhaps we cannot always say that everything is well in all aspects of our lives. There will always be storms to face, and sometimes there will be tragedies. But with faith in a loving God and with trust in His divine help, we can confidently say, “It is well, it is well with my soul.”   Watch this video with subtitles at-  https://youtu.be/Eg5O2y1UXw4?si=JvgZ32hBe4iqMK3J   The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square 891K subscribers 5,209,607 views Aug 2, 2017 For the story behind this song:     • It Is Well with My Soul - The Spoken ...   The Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square perform Mack Wilberg's arrangement of "It Is Well with My Soul," by Philip P. I always keep a copy in my pocket, and I share it with people who are curious about our standards. It has been updated and refreshed to better cope with the challenges and temptations of our day. The new version of For the Strength of Youth is available online in 50 different languages and will also be available in print. It will be a significant help for making choices in your life. Please embrace it as your own and share it with your friends. This new version of For the Strength of Youth is subtitled A Guide for Making Choices. To be very clear, the best guide you can possibly have for making choices is Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the strength of youth. So the purpose of For the Strength of Youth is to point you to Him. It teaches you eternal truths of His restored gospel—truths about who you are, who He is, and what you can accomplish with His strength. It teaches you how to make righteous choices based on those eternal truths.13 It's also important to know what For the Strength of Youth does not do. It doesn't make decisions for you. It doesn't give you a “yes” or “no” about every choice you might ever face. For the Strength of Youth focuses on the foundation for your choices. It focuses on values, principles, and doctrine instead of every specific behavior. The Lord, through His prophets, has always been guiding us in that direction. He is pleading with us to “increase [our] spiritual capacity to receive revelation.”14 He is inviting us to “hear Him.”15 He is calling us to follow Him in higher and holier ways.16 And we are learning in a similar way every week in Come, Follow Me.   American Conservative University Podcast (ACU) is not an official representative for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. As we celebrate the birth of Christ this Christmas, join us in giving new life to brothers and sisters in Sudan who have enslaved as a result of their faith. https://csi-usa.org/metaxas   https://csi-usa.org/slavery/   Typical Aid for the Enslaved A ration of sorghum, a local nutrient-rich staple food A dairy goat A “Sack of Hope,” a survival kit containing essential items such as tarp for shelter, a cooking pan, a water canister, a mosquito net, a blanket, a handheld sickle, and fishing hooks. Release celebrations include prayer and gathering for a meal, and medical care for those in need. The CSI team provides comfort, encouragement, and a shoulder to lean on while they tell their stories and begin their new lives. Thank you for your compassion  Giving the Gift of Freedom and Hope to the Enslaved South Sudanese -------------------------------------------------------- Food For The Poor https://foodforthepoor.org/ Help us serve the poorest of the poor Food For The Poor began in 1982 in Jamaica. Today, our interdenominational Christian ministry serves the poor in primarily 17 countries throughout the Caribbean and Latin America. Thanks to our faithful donors, we are able to provide food, housing, healthcare, education, fresh water, emergency relief, micro-enterprise solutions and much more. We are proud to have fed millions of people and provided more than 15.7 billion dollars in aid. Our faith inspires us to be an organization built on compassion, and motivated by love. Our mission is to bring relief to the poorest of the poor in the countries where we serve. We strive to reflect God's unconditional love. It's a sacrificial love that embraces all people regardless of race or religion. We believe that we can show His love by serving the “least of these” on this earth as Christ challenged us to do in Matthew 25. We pray that by God's grace, and with your support, we can continue to bring relief to the suffering and hope to the hopeless. --------------------------------------------------------

Do you find yourself crying out to God because you feel like you've come to the end of your rope? Sometimes circumstances flip our lives upside down, and we don't know where to turn.  God is always at work in your life. We may not always understand why our circumstances look as they do, but God knows our future and destination. In this sermon by Pastor David Maestas, he reminds us that we walk by faith, living faithfully in prayer and trusting that God will lead our path. He encourages us to live like David -- to cry out to the Lord in the midst of trouble -- while continuing to say, "It is well with my soul".  SUBSCRIBE to Living It Out Podcast for more like this!

On this episode we delve into suffering and the book of Job. Are we people who praise God from whom all blessings flow only when the blessing is flowing or are we people who praise through it all. How do we come to a place of being able to say “it is well with my soul”? Amber Smith is a Christ follower, wife, mother and philanthropist. She and her husband, Granger, live on a little farm in central Texas with their 3 children, London, Lincoln and Maverick. Their 3 year old River is now home with Jesus.
