What if your perspective on eternity could completely reshape how you handle disappointment, frustration, and conflict today? In this powerful message, Pastor Woody Morwood unpacks how a biblical understanding of eternity reframes our daily lives—moving us from despair to durable hope. Through key passages like Colossians 3, Romans 8, and 2 Corinthians 4, this teaching challenges us to lift our thinking beyond temporary struggles and anchor our lives in the eternal promises of God.You'll discover: Why hope declines when eternity is ignored How modern culture substitutes “manufactured hope” for real, lasting hope What Scripture actually says about future glory and present suffering How to navigate frustration, disappointment, and relational conflict through an eternal lens Why fixing your mind on what's eternal changes everything about how you live right now This message is part of the What We Believe series and focuses on one central truth: When eternity shapes your perspective, hope becomes your foundation. If you've been feeling stuck, discouraged, or overwhelmed by life's realities—this teaching will help you rediscover a hope that is firm, secure, and anchored in Jesus.Primary Scriptures: Colossians 3:2 Ecclesiastes 3:11 1 Corinthians 2:6–10 Romans 8:18–25 2 Corinthians 4:16–18 Colossians 1:20–21 2 Corinthians 5:19 Hebrews 6:19–20 Ephesians 3:20–21 Quotes & Theological References: C.S. As we continue in our "What We Believe" series, we're looking at Jesus - God the Son. In this message, let's consider His deity, His humanity, and His ministry.
Welcome to the Influence Podcast! I'm George P. Wood, executive editor of Influence magazine and your host. "The doctrine of hell can be a powerful motivator," writes Allen Tennison. "Many believers initially responded to a salvation message for fear of going to hell. Christians have also dedicated themselves to prayer, evangelism, and global missions over the threat of hell." "Images of hell can also move people in the other direction," Tennison says. "Some reject Christianity because of its teaching on hell. They refuse to believe in a God who would allow people to suffer eternal torment or dismiss what they see as fear-based threats from preachers," "What some view as motivation, others consider manipulation," Tennison concludes. In this episode, I talk to Tennison about the problem of hell based on his article, "What We Believe About the Final Judgment," from the Winter 2026 issue of Influence. Allen Tennison is theological counsel to the General Council of the Assemblies of God and author of the long running What We Believe series in Influence magazine. He will conclude that series in the Spring 2026 issue with an article titled, "What We Believe About the New Heavens and New Earth." Show Notes 00:00 — Introduction 01:28 — What words does the Bible use both to name hell and to describe it? 09:12 — Why is hell a "problem" for believing Christians? 13:03 — Questions about annihilationism/conditional immortality 20:14 — Questions about universalism 26:26 — Questions about eternal conscious torment 35:33 — Advocates of the traditional doctrine of hell utilize use two apologetic strategies: retribution and choice. Does the AG have a position? 45:53 — How do we preach the doctrine of hell in a spiritual formative way? 49:10 — What are you reading right now that is interesting, helpful, and/or personally challenging? 58:02 — Conclusion
Welcome back, and thanks for joining us. Today we continue our sermon series, What We Believe, drawn from the New City Catechism. If we cannot save ourselves, then where can true rescue be found? And if Jesus alone provides that salvation, what keeps us from placing our full trust in Him? Find out in this week's sermon brought by Manoa's very own Dan Crum.
In this new series called "What We Believe", we're starting off with the "The Bible", since that is the source of what we believe as Christians. Many people like to quote the Bible, but not so many people have read the Bible. Join us now as we examine the Bible - what it is, how we got it, and why we can trust it.

In this episode, we discuss the nature of God, “who” God is, beginning with God the Father. Our reading explains how the Creed begins with God the Father because he is the first Divine Person of the most Holy Trinity. God is one Divine Being made up of three persons, and his identity is a deep mystery. Fr. Mike explains that God is a single ‘what' made up of three ‘who's.' Despite this mystery, God is not an anonymous force. He has revealed himself to us by making his name known to us, and he has thus made himself accessible. Today's readings are Catechism paragraphs 198-204. This episode has been found to be in conformity with the Catechism by the Institute on the Catechism, under the Subcommittee on the Catechism, USCCB. The Catechism we are reading follows the structure of the Apostles' Creed with frequent references to the Nicene Creed for further details and explanations. Together, these Creeds aid us in articulating the beliefs we share with all members of the Catholic Church. Fr. Mike discusses why St. Ambrose refers to the Creed as “an ever-present guardian” and “treasure of our soul.” He encourages us not to take this gift for granted. Today's readings are Catechism paragraphs 193-197. This episode has been found to be in conformity with the Catechism by the Institute on the Catechism, under the Subcommittee on the Catechism, USCCB. For the complete reading plan, visit ascensionpress.com/ciy Please note: The Catechism of the Catholic Church contains adult themes that may not be suitable for children - parental discretion is advised.
Today we further realize the sense of the word “credo,” meaning “I believe.” As we read the Apostles' Creed and the Nicene Creed, we discover the differences between the two and come to understand how the Nicene Creed, which came centuries later, expands upon and explains the beliefs of the Apostles' Creed. Fr. Mike tells us that these Creeds help us to share the essential elements of Catholicism, acting as “symbols of faith,” and encouraging communion between believers. Today's readings are Catechism paragraphs 185-192. This episode has been found to be in conformity with the Catechism by the Institute on the Catechism, under the Subcommittee on the Catechism, USCCB. * 1 Kings: As David's life is draining from him, the nation of Israel is set to enter its most terribly trying times. His son Solomon becomes king with a reign so horrific that he fills Judah with altars to pagan gods and his harem of 1,000 women scoffs at God's command that no monarch should multiply wives. Why are the chapters of sacred history filled with such wickedness? Many theologians have claimed that God actually decreed that His own servants would violate His own commands. This Bible study of First Kings, however, allows the Scriptures themselves to expound on the reason for their disobedience. Lessons for the Christian fill this book, from how to gain wisdom, to learning why wisdom alone is insufficient, to the building of the Temple, to the political and moral lessons from Ahab and his wife Jezebel, and ultimately, to the mighty ministry of the Hebrew prophet Elijah, from the fire on Mt. Carmel to hearing the still small voice of the Lord! Available on MP3-CD or download. In this kickoff message of our What We Believe and Why it Matters series, Pastor Aaron unpacks the truth that the God of the Bible is not distant or detached, but constantly present and active in our world and in our lives. His presence is the defining mark of our faith—and He invites us to trust Him, love Him, and live for Him.Whether you've wrestled with doubt, struggled with distorted images of God, or simply longed to know Him more deeply, this message is a reminder that God still shows up, still speaks, still seeks, and still sends.
What happens when faith, politics, and cultural divides collide? In this thought-provoking conversation, Mike Erre and Tim Stafford explore Charlie Kirk as a person, a symbol, and a cultural marker. Is he a champion for Christian values or a polarizing figure in today's culture wars? This episode dives into the complexities of navigating cultural challenges, the role of the church in society, and the nuanced intersections of faith and politics. The hosts critically examine Turning Point USA's mission, its connections to Christianity, and the implications of blending biblical principles with political ideologies. They challenge the idea of "Christian nationalism" and question whether the gospel is being redefined in service of cultural power. Themes of cruciformity, love for neighbors and enemies, and the countercultural way of Jesus are central to this discussion. Join us as we unpack whether the church should engage in culture wars or embody a different way—faithful to Jesus' teachings of humility, justice, and hope. We encourage you to reflect, share your thoughts, and engage the conversation on Facebook and Instagram. Let's pursue understanding together as we navigate these challenging and important questions about faith and our cultural moment.
