This week... an absolute gem – a 2004 interview with Prince. You've never heard him sound so loose and relaxed as he talks about playing live, his legacy, working with his incredible band and his fight with his record label. He's also very funny. After one fan asks about Prince's legendary vault of unheard music, Prince looks at the guy and says “Hmmm….I'm trying to figure out if you fit the profile of a bootlegger”… Prince also explains why he loved the people of Toronto (where he lived for a while in the early 2000s) and he jokes about the Canadian accent. And there's a subtle moment where Prince seems to take a shot at a famous rock star – and Christopher & Tom try to guess who he meant. In light of the recent passing of Jimmy Buffett, we have some great clips of Jimmy talking to us in 1978. This is during the peak of his chart success and he's in excellent spirits, discussing his music, specifically the album “Son Of A Son Of A Sailor” (with the hit single “Cheeseburger In Paradise”. He explains that he “doesn't know too many chords” but that doesn't seem to stop him. Jimmy is very content at this point in his career… little did he know what the next 40 years held in store! We wrap up the show by talking to legendary MuchMusic VJ Bill Welychka, as he talks about his new book “Happy Has-Been”, an excellent memoir of his life as an entertainment journalist, including his encounters with the biggest names in music. Bill is not only a friendly guy, he's a true talent with an impressive list of accomplishments. In our chat, Bill talks about working with Christopher, interviewing Prince (this week's featured artist) and almost getting killed while interviewing Green Day in a golf cart! (Bill's only concern at that moment was to protect the TV equipment!) Bill's book, ““Happy Has-Been - Exciting Times and Lessons Learned by One of Canada's Foremost Entertainment Journalists” is available now. Partial proceeds go to The White Ribbon Campaign and also women's shelters across Canada. Detoxifying masculinity is a process of challenging and dismantling the harmful beliefs and behaviors that are associated with traditional masculinity. It is about redefining what it means to be a man in a way that is healthy, positive, and inclusive. Here are some tips on how to detoxify masculinity: Challenge your own beliefs about what it means to be a man. What messages did you receive about masculinity growing up? What are the expectations that you feel society has of you as a man? Once you are aware of these beliefs, you can start to challenge them and ask yourself if they are really true. Be open to new experiences. If you have always been taught that men should be tough and stoic, challenge yourself to try new things that might be seen as "feminine" or "weak." This could include things like cooking, dancing, or expressing your emotions. Support other men who are also trying to detoxify their masculinity. There are many men who are working to challenge traditional notions of masculinity. Find a community of men who are supportive of your journey and who can help you stay accountable. Be a role model for other men. If you see other men exhibiting toxic behaviors, speak up and challenge them. Let them know that their behavior is not acceptable and that there are other ways to be a man. Detoxifying masculinity is not always easy, but it is worth it. By challenging the harmful beliefs and behaviors that are associated with traditional masculinity, we can create a more just and equitable world for all people. For our final episode of 2022, I'm happy to once again be sitting down with author Michael Kaufman to talk about is soon to be released book “The Last Resort,” second in the Jen Lu series. Here's a quick look at the synopsis: It's March 2034, six months after D.C. police Detective Jen Lu and Chandler, her sentient bio-computer implanted in her brain, cracked the mystery of Eden. But the climate crisis is hitting harder than ever: A mega-hurricane has devastated the ecosystem, and waves of refugees are pouring into Washington, D.C. The rich live forever while the desperate scramble for the modified longevity treatment. Then, the death of lawyer and media darling Patty Garcia, who won a court case for massive climate change reparations to be paid out by oil, gas and coal companies, signals a glaring red flag to a wider conspiracy. Jen and Chandler are called in to crack the case. Signs point to Patty's ex, James Culpepper, a former oil giant, but as the duo dig deeper, they turn up more suspects who might have an even greater motive for killing Patty. Jen's search puts her in the crosshairs of those who will ensure the truth never comes to light, no matter the cost. As she continues to delve deeper into the seedy underbelly of the city, she has to move quickly — before she becomes next on the killer's list. Michael and I talk about Jen and Chandler, both on their roles in the book and how they've changed since the events of the first novel. We dive deep into Chandler's function and how it reflects current technology as well as its future potential. Micael's worked for years to end violence against women through the White Ribbon Campaign and help men to identify their misogynistic tendencies. We talk about the role this plays in his writing and what he hopes to accomplish with Jen as his lead character.

“What I’m seeing here is this absolutely amazing paradox. We live in a world of men’s power, where just by the virtue of birth, half of us have certain privileges, but at the same time, the ways that we have traditionally defined men’s lives comes with a huge cost.” - Michael Kaufman At work and home, the gender equality revolution is critical for the advancement of women. However, today’s Finding Brave guest makes the case that this movement is also a great gift for men. There’s a paradox of men’s power that exists in this male-dominated world, but significant changes are being made to address the challenges it presents. You’ll learn why having an having an open dialogue around gender equality is critical, but we must find positive ways to reach out to men to be part of the gender equality movement. As our expert guest shares, changes are happening that will positively affect not only this generation of men and women, but our children and future generations to come. According to the British Crime Survey there were 3.29 million reported violent assaults on women in the past 12 months. One in four women have been assaulted at some time. Much strategic attention is focussed on dealing with the outcomes of all this violence: Catching and punishing offenders; Counselling and supporting those on the receiving end; Teaching self defence ... even designing the built environment to make it safer. But what about reducing the violence itself? Chris Green, UK Director of the White Ribbon Campaign, aims to do just that. He says that wearing the campaign's white emblem involves a pledge never to commit, never to condone, and never to remain silent about violence against women. His organisation runs various campaigns targetted at men and boys in particular through areas such as sport, and in schools. In this interview Chris talks to me about the statistics, the causes, and his campaign's work. For more information visit http://www.whiteribboncampaign.co.uk
