Southside Johnny has been a leader of the Jersey shore music scene, that includes Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band and Bon Jovi, since the mid-1970's. He's released 18 studio albums throughout the years and numerous live recordings. Lee Loughnane, founding member of Chicago, joins us. This Grammy winning band, who have sold over 100 million albums, release their new album "Now" on July 8th. Lee talks about the making of the new album, with portable recording equipment they dubbed "the rigg" that they took on the road. So, this album was recorded through miles of touring and in many hotels across the world. How cool is that? Lee also talks his personal career highlights, how he works through high pressure nerves, & how the band has managed to stay together over the years. BETH McKEE is a Southern singer/songwriter/pianist/accordion player. A former member of the popular New Orleans country-cajun group Evangeline (MCA Records) McKee toured extensively behind two critically acclaimed albums. L.A. Weekly raved Beth�s piano is “worthy of some Jerry Lee Lewis arson.� Long before her career took off nationally, the Mississippi native played piano in church. She played blues on the chitlin� circuit from steamy juke joints to muddy hog farms, and emerged as a respected player on the New Orleans, Austin and Nashville music scenes. In 2010, the self-released I�m That Way displays all those southern roots fusing to formulate her swampy and soulful musical identity. CEDRIC WATSON is one of the most noted young talents to emerge in Cajun or Creole music in the past few years. This Grammy nominated artist is a fiddler, vocalist, accordionist and songwriter of seemingly unlimited potential. Born in 1983, Cedric grew up in San Felipe, Texas surrounded by the sounds of blues, old soul, country and zydeco. Unlike his hip-hop focused peers, Cedric was drawn to the old-style French songs of Southwest Louisiana and the greater Houston area. He soon made his way to Lafayette, LA where he was enthusiastically accepted into the musical community and immediately recognized as an important participant in the continuity of Creole music. Cedric will be performing on WoodSongs with his band Bijou Creole.
MAURA O�CONNELL is a wonderful, interpretive singer. This Grammy nominated singer spent nearly two years working on a project she�s been wanting to do for a very long time. Born and raised in County Clare, Ireland, she was the third of four singing sisters. She will performing on WoodSongs solo ... Just her voice ... No instrumentation. Get ready for something very special ! SI KAHN makes a return visit to the WoodSongs stage. Aside from being a brilliant songwriter, he has worked for over 40 years as a civil rights, labor and community organizer and musician in the Southern United States. His songs of family, community, work and freedom such as "Aragon Mill" "Gone, Gonna Rise Again" and "Wild Rose of the Mountain" have been recorded by over 100 artists. Si has released 14 albums of his original songs, plus a collection of traditional labor, civil rights and women's songs with Pete Seeger and Jane Sapp.
