It's no secret that Americans value their family time. A recent Pew Research report revealed that 73% of people ranked spending time with their families as “one of the most important things” in life. A close second priority for 74% of those surveyed: “being physically active.” What if, this holiday season, you gave the family a fun way to spend time together WHILE being physically active? That's the question being posed by former professional dancer and hit cookbook author Dean Sheremet in this upcoming interview opportunity that combines suggestions for healthy family fun with a holiday gift idea that everyone can feel good about. The science is clear: Dancing is really, really good for you, no matter where you fall in the family tree. With health benefits ranging from better agility and coordination to enhanced cardiovascular health and reduced risk of osteoporosis, dance is an efficient and effective workout. It's known to improve mood, boost brain power and may even reduce dementia risk – and most of the time it doesn't even feel like exercise! A father himself, Dean is a huge fan of maximizing family time off the sofa, and he's ready to share some tips with your audience about how to incorporate dance fitness into your family's routine this season and throughout the New Year. For book lovers, there's no such thing as too many books! But to spark that love, everyone needs access to them – a reality that remains out of reach for many communities where children can't easily access public libraries, and schools are strapped for resources. The literacy crisis in America is real. According to the National Assessment of Education Progress (NAEP), only 43% of U.S. fourth graders scored at or above a proficient level in reading. Studies also show that students with greater access to books perform better academically than their peers who lack this simple resource. That's why, this October, in honor of National Book Month, SONIC Drive-In is turning its passion for literacy into action. You're invited to interview some of the people working to spread the love of reading and bring books into the hands of those who need them most. SONIC donates a portion of every drink purchase back to support local students and teachers through its Limeades for Learning initiative. For National Book Month, the SONIC Foundation is teaming up with educational nonprofit partner DonorsChoose, donating $1.25 million to fund reading and literacy projects submitted by public school teachers for the “Fill Every Shelf” campaign. But that's not all – SONIC is also partnering with Little Free Library to bring 25 free “take a book, leave a book” libraries to communities in need across the country. Stuart Brown, Executive Director of the SONIC Foundation, and Shavawn Simmons, representing Family Literacy of Georgia on behalf of Little Free Library, discuss with CONN how you can make a difference – from inspiring new readers to supporting literacy in their own backyards.
President Jimmy Carter will celebrate his 100th Birthday on October 1, and what better way to celebrate his humanitarian legacy than by providing hope and help for homeowners during an ongoing housing crisis? On September 30, thousands of volunteers from around the world will gather in St. Paul, MN, to build 30 homes in just one week, as a part of the 40th Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project. Working alongside country music superstars Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood, volunteers will help construct sustainable, resilient, affordable housing in Twin Cities Habitat's largest-ever development. A project of this scope can only succeed with the help of dedicated leaders and partners willing to jump in and help where needed – including at the build site. On President Carter's Birthday, CONN speaks with Habitat for Humanity CEO Jonathan Reckford and Chris Coleman, Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity to learn how the build is progressing and discuss how various organizations are coming together to help solve America's affordable housing crisis for as many families as possible.

HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH WITH THE U.S. ARMY RESERVE: PURSUING PURPOSE AND PASSION Every September, the Army Reserve joins the nation in celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, reflecting on our shared history as Americans and recognizing the rich mosaic of people and cultures who build and strengthen this branch of service. The Army Reserve story cannot be told without reflecting on the remarkable contributions made by Hispanic American Soldiers. From the Spanish-American War to the Korean War and beyond, Soldiers of Hispanic and Latin Descent have not hesitated to defend this nation and contribute their talents and skills to local communities. Whether their heritage can be traced to Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean or Central and South America, these Soldiers have answered the call to service, defending America with great honor, dedication, and distinction. The Army Reserve draws its strength from the diversity that makes up America's melting pot, and by recognizing our history, we are building a future of a stronger Army Reserve that allows all Soldiers the opportunity to be all they can be. One of the many benefits of Army Reserve service, is having the flexibility to pursue a Civilian career while also being part of something bigger than yourself. Soldiers can advance their careers and skillsets through various trainings and educational offerings. For example, Sergeant First Class Rodney Roldan, a Noncommissioned Officer, joined the Army Reserve to enhance his media and acting skills through the Army's public affairs program. And when he's not reporting in the field, recording radio shows, or working with special operations, Sgt. 1st Class Roldan is on the big screen, working in television and film. Joining us is Sergeant First Class Rodney Roldan in celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with the Army Reserve. He discusses the rich story of Hispanic Soldiers in the Army Reserve, his Puerto Rican heritage, and while also highlighting his Army career, his dedication to helping Soldiers reach their potential, and his passion for acting and documentary filmmaking.

And while women have gained a lot of ground over time, they are still severely underrepresented in the workplace – specifically when it comes to the technology sector. Though they make up half of the workforce, women hold only 28% of the jobs in tech. In the more specialized and fast- growing area of cybersecurity, that number drops to just 26%. CyberSeek reports that there are more than 570,000 open positions in the US alone – a 35% jump over last year. Additionally, another 3.4 million positions remain unfilled around the world. With so many opportunities available, why do women still hold such a small share of the industry? Let's Learn more together from: Lynn Dohm, Executive Director of Women in Cybersecurity, is passionate about advancing women's involvement in this rapidly growing field. Her organization is committed to building a robust, diverse workforce. As an executive director with a unique perspective, Lynn is acutely aware of and prepared to discuss the barriers facing women in cybersecurity – from challenges in upskilling opportunities to the overwhelming educational and certification hurdles. When was the last time you had a “perfect week” of sleep? We know that getting enough quality sleep is essential to our well-being. In fact, sleep supports a variety of important functions including our metabolism, brain health and can have an impact on certain health conditions like heart disease, obesity and depression. Commissioned by Herbalife and conducted by OnePoll, the survey asked respondents if they know how to get a good night's sleep. Less than half said yes. Anna O by Mathew Blake is the wholly original story of a young woman who seemingly commits a double murder while sleepwalking (and then never opens her eyes again), and the forensic psychiatrist who alone can get to the truth. The much-anticipated debut novel is a standalone masterpiece of suspense, intrigue and mystery which generated buzz among publishers even before it was bought in a feverish auction prompting a rights frenzy with a record-breaking 16 international offers within 48 hours of submission. It resulted from extensive research by the author into the rare psychosomatic disorder known to neurologists as “resignation syndrome” (first reported in the late 1990s) and is inspired by real-life cases of people who commit crimes while sleepwalking, fall into a deep sleep and never wake up. Sleep is the one genuinely universal human experience. The average person spends 33 years of their life asleep. It is a second life, a world we know little about. What might you have done while you were asleep? Matthew Blake is a London-based author who has also worked as a screenwriter with the BBC, ITV Studios, and numerous other UK indies.
