In this week's episode, our host Victoria Carthew sits down with M.J. Blake to talk about her highly anticipated new book “Anna O”. Anna Ogilvy hasn't opened her eyes for four years. Not since that night at The Farm when she was found asleep with a kitchen knife in her hand, her clothes bloodstained, the bodies of her two best friends lying close. She'd committed the crime of the century – but nothing and no-one could wake her from the nightmare. Believers in her innocence call her Anna O. Believers in her guilt call her Sleeping Beauty. But no-one can take their eyes off the story…To order “Anna O”, you can visit QBD Books in-store or online here: https://www.qbd.com.au/anna-o/m-j-blake/9780008607807/Follow along with QBD Books here: QBD Books on Facebook: www.facebook.com/qbdbooks QBD Books on Instagram: www.instagram.com/qbdbooks QBD Books on Tik Tok: www.tiktok.com/@qbdbooksaustralia QBD Books on Twitter: www.twitter.com/qbdbooks

Hannah Curtis, Sarah Cullum, and Christine Rendel, led by the incomparable Dan Stevens, skillfully deliver this extraordinary twisty novel. Host Jo Reed and AudioFile's Michele Cobb Discuss Matthew Blake's new murder mystery. One night, Anna Ogilvy, a young wannabe writer, inexplicably stabs two people to death while sleepwalking. She hasn't woken up since the crime. Now Anna's psychiatrist, Ben, must wake her. Stevens delivers the portrayal of Ben with a cool reserve, allowing the listener's imagination to lock onto this remarkable mystery. Curtis, Cullum, and Rendel also enhance this unreal-seeming but plausible story. Read the full review of the audiobook on AudioFile's website. Published by Harper Audio. Anna O by Matthew Blake. A psychological thriller in the vein of things like Gone Girl- Anna O is found unconscious next to the bodies of her murdered friends and it's believed she killed them while sleepwalking. She enters a state known as “resignation syndrome” and stays asleep for the next four years, which is obviously of interest to both the medical world, the police and the victims' families. The government needs her conscious to stand trial and ask a guy who's both a forensic psychologist and sleep specialist to wake her up. It's an extremely risky process as it turns out that before this event happened, Anna was investigating a possible connection between some murders and a government entity who, if they're implicated, might just add an extremely dangerous dimension to this whole affair. It's the kind of book that is likely to be picked up by a lot of readers and spark a lot of debate. The Wartime Bookclub by Kate Thompson. Set on the Channel Island of Jersey during the German Occupation in WW2, in a place where the Nazis are firmly in control, the small population finds ways to rebel and show resistance. The library becomes the centre of town for many, with young Grace making sure that books and reading are still available and, despite an increasing number of banned books making the Nazis' list, establishes a bookclub which helps protect the heart of the community. Her friend Bea works for the postal service where she manages to intercept letters sent by would be collaborators to the authorities. Against a background of ordinary people trying to get on with their lives in such awful circumstances, and based on real historical events, this is a gentle insight into an extraordinary time. Anna O by Matthew Blake What if your nightmares weren't really nightmares at all? We spend an average of 33 years of our lives asleep. But what really happens, and what are we capable of, when we sleep? Anna Ogilvy was a budding twenty-five-year-old writer with a bright future. Then, one night, she stabbed two people to death with no apparent motive—and hasn't woken up since. Dubbed “Sleeping Beauty” by the tabloids, Anna's condition is a rare psychosomatic disorder known to neurologists as “resignation syndrome.” Dr. Benedict Prince is a forensic psychologist and an expert in the field of sleep-related homicides. His methods are the last hope of solving the infamous “Anna O'” case and waking Anna up so she can stand trial. But he must be careful treating such a high-profile suspect—he's got career secrets and a complicated personal life of his own. As Anna shows the first signs of stirring, Benedict must determine what really happened and whether Anna should be held responsible for her crimes. Only Anna knows the truth about that night, but only Benedict knows how to discover it. And they're both in danger from what they find out. The World's Biggest Cash Machine by Chris Blackhurst From Chris Blackhurst, the former Editor of the Independent, comes The World's Biggest Cash Machine, a gripping and tightly reported account of how the Glazers, owners of Manchester United, became the most maligned figures in the Premier League, and how they changed the beautiful game forever. Manchester United's supporters span the globe and cross generations. But, with few exceptions, they are united in their anger with the American family who bought their club in 2005, plunging it into record levels of debt. The Glazers' reign has become synonymous with the financialization of football, and has coincided with fan protests and a decline of Manchester United's fortunes on the pitch . . . if not on the balance sheet. But what defines this secretive family, and do these astute businessmen deserve the opprobrium they receive? In this captivating account, informed by interviews with key figures behind the scenes, journalist and commentator Chris Blackhurst charts the gripping story of the world's biggest football club - as well as exploring the wider transformation of the Premier League into a playground for billionaire owners. In this bumper episode we chat to Anna O author Matthew Blake, discuss homicidal somnambulism, and then talk to Guy Kennaway, author of Good Scammer, while taking a look at some of the best books ever set in the Caribbean.
Anna O by Mathew Blake is the wholly original story of a young woman who seemingly commits a double murder while sleepwalking (and then never opens her eyes again), and the forensic psychiatrist who alone can get to the truth. The much-anticipated debut novel is a standalone masterpiece of suspense, intrigue and mystery which generated buzz among publishers even before it was bought in a feverish auction prompting a rights frenzy with a record-breaking 16 international offers within 48 hours of submission. It resulted from extensive research by the author into the rare psychosomatic disorder known to neurologists as “resignation syndrome” (first reported in the late 1990s) and is inspired by real-life cases of people who commit crimes while sleepwalking, fall into a deep sleep and never wake up. Sleep is the one genuinely universal human experience. The average person spends 33 years of their life asleep. It is a second life, a world we know little about. What might you have done while you were asleep? Matthew Blake is a London-based author who has also worked as a screenwriter with the BBC, ITV Studios, and numerous other UK indies.

Matthew Blake, better known as Flamy Grant, is a shame slaying, hip swaying drag queen from the Bible Belt who also happens to be a gospel singer. Her debut album Bible Belt Baby came out in 2022 and largely flew under the radar until she came under fire from a conservative preacher that decided to make her the target of an online hate campaign. The campaign backfired. Big time. Instead of sending the drag queen's gospel album off into obscurity, he put a massive spotlight on it which sent it rocketing up the gospel charts where it peaked at number 1. It should be noted that as of this recording, the album is still sitting comfortably in the top 100 at number 62. I sat down with Flamy herself to talk gospel music, drag, and figuring out a space where both fit just fine. Last week, lawyers for PLS.com and the National Association of Realtors had oral arguments in front of a 9th Circuit Court of Appeals panel about whether NAR's ban on pocket listings, which are listings not posted on the Multiple Listings Service, violates antitrust law. PLS.com claimed that their product – high-end listings strewn across the country – was effectively ruined by NAR requiring its 1.5 million members to post on the MLS.PLS.com's case was dismissed by a lower court, but the company's appeal drew interesting allies. One is the U.S. Justice Department, which filed an amicus brief arguing that the lower court erred. Another is the Washington-based American Antitrust Institute. The author of that brief, Laura Alexander, vice president of policy for the group, declared that NAR is a monopoly. Whether it is a monopoly harmful to society, Alexander said, should not be judged just on how home sellers and buyers are impacted but real estate agents in general.Alexander expounded on her arguments for today's episode of HousingWire Daily. She also discussed with HousingWIre real estate reporter Matthew Blake why NAR is feeling the heat now, and what will come of the multi-pronged legal scrutiny against the trade group.

The year 2021 is ending with the news that COVID infections are, again, on the rise nationally. What this means for real estate is more of the same, said Ken Johnson, a real estate economist at Florida Atlantic University, and that's not a good thing. On this episode of Houses in Motion, part of HousingWire Daily, Johnson discussed with HousingWire Real Estate Reporter Matthew Blake that the public's and government response to COVID could mitigate plans to increase mortgage interest rates. Also, the construction of new inventory could further stall.
Over the last several weeks we've seen layoffs of mortgage loan officers and other staff at Freedom Mortgage and Interfirst Mortgage, as well as a complete PR nightmare that resulted from Better.com laying off 900 staff members on a Zoom call. This week, Senior Mortgage Reporter Matthew Blake wrote about how Knock, a power buyer, announced it was going to cut LO salaries on Tuesday, then reversed course after hearing from its staff. Frederick Peters started in real estate in 1980, and he began managing the family business, the Warburg Peters brokerage, in 1991. But New York real estate's days of old - property listings written on file cards, agents tipping doormen to generate leads - has changed, and with it Peters' brokerage. What shifts happening in real estate today will change how homes are bought and sold? And which disruptions will be forgotten five years from now? For this episode of Houses in Motion, part of HousingWire Daily, HousingWire real estate reporter Matthew Blake posed those questions to Shaival Shah, the CEO of Ribbon, a New York City company that, up to now, has been giving cash loans to prospective homebuyers in half-a-dozen southern states. Ribbon is a “power buyer,” meaning that they facilitate a consumer making a cash offer on a home. Shah contends that cash consistently stands out to sellers weighing offers. Ribbon's business model raises a few big-picture questions. One, will we continue into the indefinite future with a high-demand real estate market that requires extraordinary measures like an all-cash offer? Also, is Shah right that there is a growing legion of single-family home investors hoarding inventory? And where do traditional intermediaries, namely the real estate agent, fit into Ribbon's plans?
The twofold problems with residential real estate appraisers have become well-established. One is an array of well-publicized stories of appraisers undervaluing a home because the homeowner is Black. The other, arguably related issue, is that the ranks of U.S. appraisers are perilously thin and the profession is dominated by white men, whose average age is 61, according to the Appraisal Institute. In this episode of Houses in Motion, a series that is part of the HousingWire Daily podcast lineup, St. Petersburg, Florida-based appraiser Francois “Frank” Gregoire discusses both these issues, but also dives into specifics about what professional appraisal organizations, the federal government, and individual appraisers can do to address them. This podcast gets into the weeds at times with, for example, how someone becomes qualified to become an appraiser, and how those standards may change. But these are the specific discussions that will shape appraisers' future relevance in a housing transaction.

Why are homes owned by white people valued more than homes owned by Black people? For this week's Houses in Motion, a podcast miniseries part of HousingWire Daily, HousingWire's real estate reporter Matthew Blake spoke with Michael Neal. When do prices in a market rise so fast that they become detached from a home's “true” value? That's something Ken Johnson, a long-time real estate professor at Florida Atlantic University, has been studying of late. Johnson compiles a monthly list of markets that he views as overvalued with places like Boise, Idaho, and Ogden, Utah ranking high on the list. Johnson argues that in some of the most overvalued markets, people are better off rentingJohnson joined the Houses in Motion podcast on HousingWire Daily to discuss how an overvalued market is determined and when might be a good time for homebuyers to rent, and real estate agents to cool their heels. He argues that in some of the most overvalued markets, people are better off renting. Johnson also spoke with HousingWire reporter Matthew Blake about his time as an agent in the pre-Internet era, and changes in sales commissions over the years.
What if death is merely a pause? If you could live for just one more day, is that an offer you'd take up? You come into consciousness. You cannot speak. You cannot move. You cannot even make it understood that you hear everything going on around you. All you can do is listen as your fate and the fate of all the other recovered bodies on the ward with you are determined by petty-minded bureaucrats. What if consciousness outlives the body? What if there was an experience of being dead? You are dead. Your eyes do not react to light, in fact all your reflexes are absent. And that is because you are dead. Even if you were to briefly sit up, like Lazarus, it wouldn't alter the fact. And they are burying you in the ground because you are dead. Hell, it turns out, is simply disembodied life. Content Warning: Death, Injury, Dead bodies, Medical procedures, Confined spaces, Strong language. One consistent thread is his work as both a real estate agent and managing broker for Virtual Realty Group. Lissack has now spent two decades in real estate. Our Bible App is about to launch and this time I mean business. But it's been about to launch for a year, and that has been disappointing for so many of you. Matthew Blake sits down in the interviewing chair to ask me all about the harrowing year, and why you can be sure the app is coming out January 17-18. Tune in now!
Matthew Blake, or as I like to call him Mr. Heathen, is the host of Heathen podcast. He’s on the other side of Christianity; the outskirts filled with mysticism, spirituality and well…. Questions. After a very religious upbringing he somehow found himself in this no-mans-land and instead of running scared he’s setting up camp and interviewing the natives. He calls each episode, "spiritual conversations for the godless," answering the call for each of us whether we are a believer or not. How can you not love what he's about? You can catch up with him on most social media platforms @HeathenPodcast.
