Today's episode is about building more than just houses — it's about building hope, community, and a brighter future in Putnam County. I'm joined by Murali and Katherine from Habitat for Humanity of Putnam County, and they're back with some truly exciting updates. We'll talk about the upcoming Building Hope Gala, a night that combines fun, generosity, and impact in a way only Habitat can deliver. But that's not all — we'll also share details about Carter Crossing, a brand-new community of Habitat-built homes that represents a major milestone for the organization and for families who dream of homeownership. This project isn't just about constructing houses — it's about creating stability, dignity, and opportunity for neighbors who need it most. From volunteer stories to the vision of Carter Crossing, and from hammer-and-nails to high heels and tuxedos, this episode is a celebration of what's possible when a community comes together to say: everyone deserves a safe, affordable place to call home. So stick around — because you're going to hear how you can be part of it too! Host Jeremy C. Park talks with Bree DeMoss, Marketing and Events Manager with Habitat for Humanity Williamson-Maury, who discusses the nonprofit organization's mission to provide affordable homeownership opportunities through mortgage loans and home construction, while offering financial education and support services to help families succeed. The organization serves working families who earn too much for government assistance but not enough for traditional mortgages, with programs including volunteer-built homes, budget coaching, and credit improvement services. Through various initiatives like the ReStore, critical repair program, and community partnerships, Habitat for Humanity Williamson-Maury aims to address affordable housing needs while creating stable neighborhoods and empowering families through homeownership.A Mission to Empower FamiliesBree DeMoss, Marketing and Events Manager with Habitat for Humanity Williamson-Maury discusses their mission and efforts to build affordable homes and support local families. Bree explains that Habitat homes are purchased by families through affordable mortgages, and the organization provides financial literacy training, budget coaching, and credit improvement services to ensure long-term success. She highlights the Get Ready Program, which prepares potential homebuyers before they apply, and emphasizes Habitat's focus on empowering families to thrive in their new homes.Energy-Efficient Housing for Working FamiliesBree explains that their organization serves as both mortgage lender and general contractor, building energy-efficient homes with the help of volunteers and local sponsors. They focus on helping working families who earn too much for government assistance but not enough to qualify for traditional mortgages, offering a tailored budget coaching process and unique loan structures with the help of government and other partners. The program's impact extends beyond housing, as families experience improved educational outcomes, better health, and increased confidence after moving into their new homes.Homeownership's Role in Community StabilityBree discusses the positive impact of homeownership on communities, explaining how it helps families stay in their neighborhoods, spend money locally, and build long-term stability. She highlights how this stability enables families to advance in their careers and maintain connections to schools and local activities.Home Dedication Emotional CelebrationsBree describes the emotional experience of home dedication ceremonies, where she and other volunteers celebrate with families who have completed the home-building process. She explains that these ceremonies, which include sponsors, volunteers, and budget coaches, create a magical atmosphere as families receive their keys, and she has found the experience to be deeply moving over her four years of involvement.Habitat Volunteer Program OverviewBree discusses Habitat for Humanity's volunteer program, explaining that corporate and church sponsors typically provide groups of 20-25 volunteers for building projects. She notes that volunteers of all ages and skill levels are welcome, with age 16 for general participation and 18 for power tool use, and emphasizes that safety equipment and training are provided. She highlights the emotional impact of volunteering, noting that participants feel empowered by learning new skills and knowing they are helping families in need.House Building Financial StrategiesBree discusses the financial aspects of building houses, highlighting the significant costs involved, including lumber, contractors, and land development. She explains that they have various sponsorship levels, ranging from churches on the lower end to organizations willing to invest up to $70,000 for an entire house, with the actual cost closer to $200,000. They also seek in-kind donations from construction companies to offset expenses, emphasizing the importance of diverse support to address the challenges of building new homes in the current market.ReStore: Supporting Home BuildsBree highlights their ReStore, a home store in Franklin, Tennessee, that sells new and gently used appliances, furniture, and building materials. The store's profits help offset administrative costs and cover expenses not covered by donations and sponsorships, ensuring that donations go directly to home builds. She also mentions a Deconstruction program where they remove and transport kitchen materials from remodeling projects for free, supporting their home builds.Habitat's Critical Repair Program OverviewBree discusses their critical repair program, which provides major repairs for low-income homeowners in the community, regardless of whether they are Habitat homeowners. She emphasizes the need for community support through volunteerism, sponsorships, donations, and advocacy to raise awareness about affordable housing needs.Visit https://www.hfhwm.org to learn more.

A CMO Confidential Interview with David Aaker, Vice Chair of Prophet, author of numerous marketing books including Aaker on Branding 2nd Edition, formerly a Haas School of Business Professor. David discusses the history of brand equity starting with the BCG model from the 90's and why that model and scanner data drove a short-term sales focus at the expense of brand equity. After years of progress, he believes we are now experiencing "A revival of short-termism." Key topics include: the differences between B2B and B2C brand building; the need for marketers to appreciate that brands aren't built in isolation; and how to break through in a hostile communications environment. Tune in to hear why he believes "There are easy ways for companies to build better brands," and case studies from Dove and Uniqlo. Brand value has been discussed for decades—so why isn't it a universally accepted business principle? In this episode of CMO Confidential, host Mike Linton sits down with branding legend David Aaker, Vice Chair at Prophet, author of 18 books, and widely regarded as the “Father of Modern Branding,” to unpack why the fight for brand equity is far from over. From the origins of brand equity in the 1990s to today's hostile marketing environment, Aaker shares insights on: • Why brand should be treated as a long-term asset, not a short-term tactic • How short-termism and performance marketing are eroding brand value • The difference between B2B and B2C brand management (and why organizational values matter more in B2B) • Examples of brands that have nailed disruptive innovation and purpose-driven branding (Dove, Uniqlo, Habitat for Humanity) • Why most companies are managing brands poorly in today's cluttered, skeptical media environment • How AI could democratize creativity and make professional branding accessible to more companiesPacked with history, frameworks, and practical examples, this conversation will change the way you think about brand value, brand portfolios, and how to make your brand truly indispensable.00:00 – Introduction to CMO Confidential & Guest David Aaker01:15 – Why Brand Value Still Isn't a Universally Accepted Principle03:45 – The Birth of Brand Equity in the 1990s06:10 – Short-Termism, Performance Marketing, and the Brand Erosion Problem08:35 – How to Justify Brand as an Asset (Case Studies & Examples)11:20 – The Visibility Advantage and 14 Dimensions of Brand Value13:05 – Why CFOs and Boards Believe in Other Brands, but Not Their Own15:10 – B2B vs B2C Branding: Key Differences and What Matters Most17:45 – Why Many Companies Are Managing Brands Poorly Today20:00 – Branding in a Hostile Communication Environment22:05 – The Power of Brand Portfolios, Companion Brands, and “Silver Bullet” Brands24:30 – Examples: Uniqlo, HeatTech, and the Westin Heavenly Bed26:10 – Super Bowl Advertising: Breaking Through Clutter and Skepticism28:00 – AI, the Democratization of Creativity, and the Future of Branding29:20 – Final Advice: Your Duty as a Marketer to Build the Brand as an Asset30:15 – Closing Remarks & SubscribeHere's your list fully hashtagged and comma-separated:#cmoconfidential, #DavidAaker, #brandvalue, #brandequity, #brandstrategy, #marketingstrategy, #brandingadvice, #B2Bbranding, #B2Cbranding, #brandmanagement, #shorttermism, #performancemarketing, #purposedrivenbranding, #DoveRealBeauty, #UniqloHeatTech, #HabitatforHumanity, #marketingleadership, #brandportfolio, #brandeddifferentiators, #brandedenergizers, #brandedsourceofcredibility, #hostilemediaenvironment, #disruptiveinnovation, #AIinbranding, #democratizationofcreativity, #CMOpodcast, #marketingpodcastSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

In a heartwarming yet informative conversation, Janet Michael sits down with Andrea Ross, the executive director of Warren County Habitat for Humanity, to explore the multifaceted impact of the organization on the local community. The conversation delves into the essence of what Habitat for Humanity stands for and the incredible initiatives they undertake to provide affordable housing while creating robust communities. Janet introduces the discussion by shedding light on the myriad of responsibilities that Andrea and her team juggle daily. Andrea explains that while many associate Habitat for Humanity with building homes—as popularized by public figures like Jimmy Carter—the organization's mission extends far beyond that. "We build affordable housing alongside families that are going to get mortgages," Andrea says, emphasizing the importance of economic development, neighborhood stability, and sweat equity contributed by the families themselves. The conversation reveals that Warren County Habitat for Humanity also undertakes critical home repairs to ensure that residents can live safely in their homes. These repairs go beyond cosmetic changes; they include essential upgrades like installing ramps or fixing dangerous electrical issues. "Our goal is to keep people safe in their homes as long as possible," Andrea asserts. Janet and Andrea further discuss the financial realities and misconceptions about Habitat for Humanity. Drea clarifies that the homes built are not free; the families secure mortgages and invest their labor into building these homes, ultimately contributing to community development. "People assume it's for extremely low-income families, but many don't realize that even middle-income families can qualify," she notes, highlighting the pervasive reach of their aid. Warren County Habitat for Humanity is more than just a housing entity; it is a community builder. Janet points out the genius of community-centric projects like the Osage development, which aims to foster a neighborhood where families can grow together, sharing memories and mutual support. Andrea nostalgically recalls the essence of neighborhoods where kids played together and parents looked out for each other, emphasizing that rebuilding these communities can have significant economic and social benefits. To sustain these efforts, Andrea implores the community to get involved in any capacity they can—be it donating $20, sponsoring a family or attending fundraising events like the Canvas and Cocktails event. "Every little bit helps," she passionately states, reflecting on the impact of even the smallest contributions. The conversation concludes on a note of gratitude, acknowledging the support from local entities such as the Rotary Club and community contractors who make all these efforts possible. With numerous events lined up, including the Hope and Harmony Gospel Fest and their annual gala, there are ample opportunities for community members to engage and contribute. For those interested in keeping up with Habitat for Humanity's activities or getting involved, Andrea encourages visits to their website: https://www.warrencountyhabitat.org/ or Facebook where updates and calls for volunteers are frequently posted. "Our parents shouldn't have to be in places where they don't have heat or water or the basic necessities," Andrea poignantly remarks, encapsulating the heartfelt mission of Warren County Habitat for Humanity: to provide not just houses but homes, filled with warmth, safety, and community spirit.
