Tom Monahan took on the role of CEO of Heidrick & Struggles in 2024. He came to Heidrick & Struggles with a decades-long career of building and leading innovative technology, data, and services companies and as a long-time Heidrick & Struggles client. Most recently, Tom was president and CEO of DeVry University, where he led the university to digital innovation, sustained growth, outstanding student success metrics, and financial strength as a newly independent institution.Tom is passionate about people and the role that leadership has to create a world better led. Tom explains to me that the right people, in the right role leading in the right way is the single most important driver for high performing organisations. Tom's decision to take up the CEO role of Heidrick & Struggles was based on the ability of H&S to really make a difference for organisations in finding the right leaders and to co-create great performance on an individual and collective basis. Tom describes leaders are Magpies, building their nests out of anything they can find within themselves and in their surroundings based on insatiable curiosity and a beginners mindset.I ask Tom about his parents and family background as I search for clues into his focus and success. His answer will surprise you.Tom tells me that in his role as CEO he is the steward of the business and the people are the only thing that won't be worth less from the day they begin working in the organisation. Each and every day a person grows, learns and experiences in a way that builds the sum of the parts. It is the human capital that is the most precious resource of any business. One of Tom's primary strengths is his ability to frame a problem or issue in order to create focus as opposed to always having an answer. 'Fast Starts matter' Tom explains, so getting quick insight is paramount for any leader and organisation in gathering the collective intelligence to focus on the issue or problem and resolve it.Leading experts has always been a leadership challenge and Tom tells me that he is expert in the way we used to do things and not how we should do things so he has to get out of the way of his people and allow them to operate in a way that they know is best.As CEO Tom is focused on creating an environment where the best people come to do their best work. Tom also understands that any new CEO must be 'courageously humble' as he tries to understand the business that he is taking over, the people that he leads and the culture that he initially inherits. The most dangerous thing a CEO can do, is be a focus group of one.Tom is an introvert by nature so the very social and public facing element of the role is a constant challenge for him and he fondly remembers the advice from an inebriated aunt that if something is worth doing, it is worth overdoing.www,hedrick.com Hosted on Acast. Quarterback and Running Back Starts at 1:00 Savor your back-to-back Big Ten Championship winning Michigan Wolverines. Seth guaranteed a win against Ohio State last year and he was right. It's JJ, what level is JJ at? The TCU game obscures it but he's very good at not throwing the ball into bad places. How would you attack JJ McCarthy if you're a defense? The only thing that really de-rails this season is if he gets hurt. Is there any reason to think that JJ won't make a leap, similarly to Shea Patterson (consensus is no, he should make the leap)? Brian thinks Jack Tuttle is the likely backup and would be a viable caretaker, everyone else thinks it'll be Davis Warren. There is a very mature and very professional conversation about Alex Orji. Apparently he's the kick returner, but could he also be an actually useful asset in short yardage? Is this the best running back duo in school history? Is Blake Corum the best running back in Michigan football history? He's fast, hard to tackle, and just rarely makes mistakes. Donovan Edwards played last year with a broken hand and a knee injury (and also destroyed Ohio State in the process). His decision making improved greatly so while healthy, he should be fun to watch. CJ Stokes and Kalel Mullings are up next, CJ Stokes had some unfortunate plays but hopefully improved and gets play time. Does Tavierre Dunlap last the year? [The rest of the writeup and the player after THE JUMP] 2. Receiver and Tight Tend Starts at 1:08:30 Wide receiver has been a "problem" position with some fans but Cornelius Johnson and Roman Wilson are both probably draftable. If this is the biggest problem, it is a good problem. Seemed like there were a lot of balls that Cornelius Johnson could almost catch from JJ, just need to lock down that connection more. Maybe not a 900 yard guy but still a good option. Roman Wilson will continue to play in the slot as a speedster. He'll be the most open the most often (he was more open than Cornelius on one of the touchdowns against Ohio State). You should check out Roman Wilson's YouTube channel. The other outside receiver is Tyler Morris, who seems to have a telepathic connection with JJ. He might not get a lot of targets but we're comfortable with him as a starter. Peyton O'Leary is definitely going to play and get some receptions this year. Semaj Morgan is a lot like AJ Henning as a recruit. Have Michigan fans ever been so sure about a tight end being an All-American as Colston Loveland? Did you know he was a wide receiver in Idaho two years ago? In Idaho. Does he get the most targets this season? You can line him up as a receiver if you really want to, he can be a matchup nightmare. AJ Barner had to endure Indiana's offense last year, but he should be serviceable at Michigan. Matthew Hibner has shown flashes in the past, but after that the depth gets a little light. There are photos of Marlin Klein playing with the 1s. Max Bredeson is technically a fullback but is also basically a tight end. 3. Hot Takes and Offensive Line Starts at 1:56:18 Takes hotter than Mel Tucker's seat after he loses to DeVry University. This is the deepest offensive line any of us can remember - we would be comfortable with some of the 3rd stringers. Zak Zinter is the top guard on some draft lists and is probably at his ceiling, Trevor Keegan should be recovered from an injury and have some room for improvement this year. Center is a battle between Drake Nugent and Greg Crippen. NFL folks love LaDarius Henderson for his athletic traits. Giovanni El-Hadi looked good last year up until the Illinois game and will probably be a starter next year. Coaches are going to rotate starters in the non-conference. Karsen Barnhart has been getting a lot of camp buzz - plays really well against bad opponents but really struggles against anyone better than him. We would expect Trente Jones to win the right tackle job, but we're hearing other things from camp. Nice to see Myles Hinton since he was heavily coveted as a recruit. He struggled at Stanford, but that may have been a product of Stanford's offense. Hinton moves really smoothly for how big he is. LaDarius Hunderson is probably the starting left tackle. 4. Offense in Summary Starts at 2:38:51 This offense looks to be the best of the Harbaugh era. What offense in Michigan football history would you take over this one? JJ is just Zen Harbaugh. What is the biggest concern of the offense (other than someone getting hurt)? Who is your breakout player? Who's your Dude? Final SP+ rank? MUSIC: “Don't Fade Out”— Cut Worms “Gilded Lily”— Cults “Handsome”— Drug Cabin “Across 110th Street”

Get ready to dive deep into the controversial world of seed oils with the brilliant Dr. Sarah Zaldivar! In this episode, we explore seed oils' origin, processing, and impact on our health. Dr. Zaldivar emphasizes the importance of balancing omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids and how our modern diet throws that balance out of whack. But don't worry, she has some amazing advice and recommendations for using healthier alternatives to improve our overall health. Plus, we'll uncover the limitations of studies promoting seed oils and the truth behind their role in obesity. Dr. Sarah Zaldivar is a weight loss expert with a history of overcoming binge eating disorder, depression, anxiety, and weight struggles. She has lost over 25 pounds of body fat through implementing mindset shifts, a primal diet, and exercise plans. She holds a Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology & Nutrition and is a licensed dietitian, certified personal trainer, and an ACSM-certified Exercise Physiologist. She currently teaches nutrition at Miami Dade College and DeVry University while creating content on various social media platforms. Key Highlights: [00:01 - 03:10] Opening Segment Sarah first explains seed oil which is known as vegetable oil, where it originated, and how it evolved in the food industry. They were originally produced from cotton production waste products and used for engine lubricants before being introduced into the food supply. Seed oils are heavily processed and deodorized to mask their off-putting smell. [03:11 - 10:15] Extraction and Refinement Process of Seed Oils They explain the process of extracting oil from nuts and seeds, including cleaning, stripping, heating, and pressing. Hexane is a neurotoxin that can harm the nervous system, but it is commonly used in the food industry to extract fat from protein. They also discuss the process of refining oil to remove colors, odors, and bitterness. [10:16 - 15:00] Balancing Omega-3 and Omega-6 Sarah reiterates that the ideal omega-3 to omega-6 is 1:1, traditionally found in paleo-ancestral animal diets. The modern American who eats a standard American diet gets 20 to 25 times more omega-6 than omega-3, which is a problem because they both compete or function in the body. She explains that omega-6 and omega-3 need equal amounts for the body to function properly. [15:01 - 36:59] Omega-3 and Omega-6 Meta-Analysis Studies Sarah points out the limitations of Hong Sue in 2017 study, including the lack of consideration of differences in the source and quality of omega-six fatty acids. She also highlights the problem of excess consumption of omega-six fatty acids, which is common in the Western diet. A study by GH Johnson and Kevin Ritchie suggests that the majority of evidence shows that omega-six polyunsaturated fatty acids, including linoleic acid, can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. Sarah questions this specific study because it only looked at a few inflammatory markers and did not compare an ancestral diet to the Mediterranean diet. A study by Ivanna JK and Philip C Calder found an association between moderate intake of omega-6s and a lower risk of cardiovascular disease, possibly as a result of lower blood cholesterol concentration. [37:00 - 46:47] Closing Segment They discuss the prevalence of Omega-6 in the standard American diet and its impact on inflammation. They also talk about the funding sources of certain studies that suggest the benefits of seed oils. The study found that coconut oil did not significantly affect markers of glycemia inflammation and adiposity, but it contains Phytosteroids that can mess up hormones. Olive and avocado oil are better options than seed oils, but plant antinutrients and self-defense chemicals can cause different reactions in different people. Eating whole foods like meats, eggs, and dairy instead of processed foods is better for your health. Cutting out seed oils may also be beneficial due to their potential inflammation-causing properties. Key Quotes: “Saturated fat and animal fat cannot cause heart disease if you don't first have correlation.” - Dr. Sarah Zaldiva “The burden of proof should be on this new paradigm of eating, not on our ancestral way of eating. We shouldn't be defending our ancestral way of eating that made us human when we were far a far healthier bunch.” - Dr. Sarah Zaldiva “They are both essential fatty acids (Omega 3s and 6s) You must get them both from your diet; otherwise, you cannot be alive.” - Dr. Sarah Zaldiva CONNECT WITH DR. See full video Episode --> What does a Field Service Engineer do? or https://youtu.be/loS_vEyMc2oAnother great Zone3Podcast episode with Field Service Engineer Todd Beaudoin. Todd is originally from North Dakota. Relocating to Arizona to pursue a Bachelor of Science and Electronic Engineering at DeVry University. Starting in the semiconductor industry for the first several years of his career. To when he eventually transitioned into healthcare. He started his training with Fomar MRI manufacturer. There he worked directly with Dr. Raymond Damadian credited as the inventor of Magnetic Resonance Imaging. That very unique experience gave him advanced knowledge of image acquisition which he uses daily to help identify scanner equipment issues. After that training, he then worked with GE Healthcare for 13 years. Currently, he works for the Mayo Clinic servicing multi-modality equipment, but mostly his time is spent on MRI. Providing multi-vendor service. Dealing with mechanical problems, environmental controls, electronics, electricity, networking problems, etc. Todd encourages anyone interested in the field to pursue it. It's a great time considering employers offer incentives such as putting you through school to obtain your degree. Todd discusses his day-to-day operations describing the majority of his time spent is reactive in nature. Responding to issues as they arise. Usually reported to him and his department directly from the technologists that operate the scanner. Remote access allows him the ability to diagnose the problem but he prefers to be more hands-on. In addition to unplanned unexpected issues, preventive maintenance also is not only necessary but valuable to stop problems before it happens. Todd describes one of his biggest hurdles to overcome is scanner time. The department allows him the time to investigate, identify, and fix any problems when they happen. Error logs are the most helpful starting point. Some issues are quick fixes. However, some problems can keep Todd and other technicians in the department there through the night. Something as simple as calibration can take up to 4 hours. Software/hardware upgrades present their own sets of challenges. Todd expresses the importance of Daily/weekly QA. That data trends the machine, any deviation is usually indicative of a current or upcoming cause for concern. A proactive way to maintain the machine. The logistics of maintaining the temperature of the magnet and scanner environment. Todd is an absolute genius as are all Field Service Engineers. He credits his training and the people he's surrounded with. Collectively his team is able to quickly identify a problem and fix it. Downtime translates to a lack of patient care. The sooner he and his team can get it up and running again the sooner the technologist can provide care to that next patient.About our Sponsor: Aegys is an innovative leader in the MRI safety industry and the Creator of The TechGate Automatic.Aegys is committed to providing innovative product and process solutions that enhance overall magnet safety and improve efficiency. TechGate Auto is a Zone 4 Barrier System that keeps patients and MRI technologists safe. TechGate Auto allows technologists to focus on the care of patients and efficient room turnaround rather than worrying about anyone entering the MRI room behind them. Easy to use and designed for the MRI environment, TechGate Auto is deployed whenever the technologist enters or leaves the MR room or via push button remote control, providing an immediate physical restriction of access to all unauthorized individuals. The use of a “caution” barrier at the entrance to the MR room is now a recommendation of the American College of Radiology MR Safety Committee.Links Aegys' Tech Gate Auto- https://aegysgroup.com/----------Imaging DiversifiedImaging Diversified was established in 2019 with the aspiration of offering onsite training to his peers through vendors that sell MRI and CT equipment. He received subpar training on more than one occasion after new MRI installations. With the goal to remedy this, he started being more active in sharing his knowledge on scanner utilization starting in 2011 after attending a conference by Dr. Kanal. Over years he was exposed to different vendors and learned the systems to become a superuser. He then shared that knowledge with his peers. This passion later became a business that welcomes application specialists and knowledgeable users that want to share their expertise and get paid to do it.Links: Email: Info@imagingdiversified.comWebsite: www.imagingdiversified.comSocial Media: Imaging Diversified
