Would you believe it, we hear nothing from him for months and now 2 episodes in a couple of weeks! Well, the feedback was so nice for the Bill Withers tribute, Creamy though he would risk another one.   This week we have another track from the amazing ‘This Is Mainstream’ album, we look at the footprint left from the great Eddie Hazel, we take a trip to France, have a bit of funk and finish with another Bill cover that couldn’t be included last week.   I hope you enjoy. If you do, give us a like or even better a review on Podbean or iTunes.   You all take care out there and remember, the best medicine can sometimes be ‘keeping it on the one’   Love Creamy xxx

It's been a long time but the passing of Bill was just too important not to mark. This episode doesn't just feature music from the great man himself, it also features some covers of his most popular tunes from the likes of Gladys Knight & The Pips, Afrique, Issac Hayes, Buddy Terry and Sivuca.  Creamy hopes everyone is well in these strange and challenging times and he hopes this may give your mind a rest from what sits outside the front door for at least an hour. Who knows, with no gigs or indeed social events, he may have the time to put some more episodes together. A lot will depend on your comments and feedback.   As always, take care and 'Keep It On The One' Love Creamy xxx

An episode of real mixed emotions for me, this one. As I explain in the introduction, I was suffering with my mental health at the time of interview and had had a panic attack that I was trying to mask throughout the time of the interview and concert. However, I am also sitting on stage with a genuine hero of mine, having the opportunity to talk about his music, the music industry in general with the odd ghost story thrown in for good measure.   For all its shortcomings, I really hope you enjoy the episode.   All music featured this week is from the ‘Monks Road Social, Down The Willows’ album that was released earlier this year. All 3 tracks played feature Matt on guitar and he is also the composer of ‘Head Down To Love’ & ‘Hello Though’.   The final track featured this week is from the truly amazing Samantha Whates, whom I have featured on previous episodes. I am hoping to have a chat with Samantha in the near future about her upcoming album, ‘Waiting Rooms’.   Don’t forget, tickets for Mother Earth are available at https://www.seetickets.com/event/mother-earth/100-club/1330640   The video of Matt playing Overshadowed can be viewed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCl25zL6Vn8   A big thank you to everyone who was involved in the concert including Steph, James, Dud, Stu, Dik & Fi, Daisy, Simon, Alys (and Mum) and the many people I have insulted by not including them on this list.   And thank you, Matt. It was a beautiful night and as always you filled the room with some very special music.

A really sad episode to do as a real hero of mine passed away a couple of weeks ago. Now I know the name Level 42 can carry a lot of baggage for some so I please ask of you to stick that aside for the next couple of hours and have a listen to what I have put together. I have tried as much as possible to stay away from the 'hits' and more popular tracks to really focus on 2 areas, Boon as a writer and Boon as a player.    I hope you will give this episode a go and appreciate the incredible musicianship that underpins their work (particularly live, where, when possible I have opted for the live recordings of the songs. The songs played this episode are: Almost There (live) Lying Still Are You Hearing (What I Hear) (Live) Wings Of Love Brazil 99 Dream Crazy Seven Days Take A Look (Acoustic) Eyes Waterfalling (Live) Turn It On (Live) Heathrow (Live) Lopsy Lu (Stanley Clarke) Love Meeting Love/ Kansas City Milkman (Live) 88 (Live)   Our love goes out to Boon's family and to the rest of the band. Rest in peace and thank you for everything.   Apart from my vinyl collection, I lent heavily on Paul Waller's amazing book, 'Level 42 - The Worldwide Visual Discography' & Stuart Clayton's Mark King/ Level 42 Bass books for extra notes and knowledge. I cannot recommend these books highly enough with Paul's book now available on an electronc copy (not sure if any physical books are left) and Stuart's bass tab books can be found at www.basslinepublishing.com

Warning - Please read before listening. Dear Beautiful Listeners Of The Podcast. Firstly, my apologies for the lack of podcasts these past few weeks. I've not been particularly well mentally for a while now. I've hummed and harred about whether I should talk about this on the podcast and feel that I should take this opportunity to talk about something I would (at the moment at least) find difficult to discuss face-to-face. Also, having people around me (in particular my wife) that have encouraged me to get some help has really helped and if this podcast made just one person think about getting some help then it has served a purpose.   I've also gone back to the music which for me was the gateway to discovering all the music you hear on Gutbuster, The Blues. So alongside me talking about some of the challenges Ive had these past few month, there is some music that has really helped me in the healing process. Music this week comes from Bessie Smith, Nina Simone, Ray Charles, Robert Johnson, Eric Clapton, Leadbelly, Big Bill Broonzy, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy & Otis Spann.   Normal service is resumed then podcast.   Thanks for sticking with me.    Love Creamy xxx

That said we also manage to put a few oldies in, with some focus on the early 80’s boogie fusion and 60’s Blue Note (and related). We feature new material from Kasmari Washington, Lack Of Afro & Corduroy. We play 2 tunes from the new latenighttales album, this one compiled by Anges Obel (and the tracks are from Tamba Trio, Quarteto Em Cy & Sibylle Baier). There are also tracks from LeRoy Hutson, Chaka Khan, Side Effect, Mose Allison, Ruben Wilson, The Buddy Rich Big Band & “Brother” Jack McDuff You can find us at: Facebook - @creamyshouse Skype - @CreamysHouse Drop us a tweet or email us at mark@choa.co.uk. We would love to hear from listeners, wherever you are and in particular in countries outside of England. Have a beautiful week and ‘Keep It On The One’ Love, Creamy xxx

This episode is dedicated to the great John 'Jabo' Starks, who sadly passed away this week. Jabo, along with Clyde Stubblefield shared drum duties during the golden period of James Brown (& James Brown Family) recordings. In this episode, we feature some of his finest work with James Brown, The J.B's, Maceo, Lyn Collins, Bobby Byrd, Bobby 'Blue' Bland, Little Junior Walker and BB King.   Whilst James Brown may well be the most sampled artist, it is Starks and Stubblefiled that have laid the foundation to Breakbeats. They were originators in their day and defined at least 2 genres of music.   We play some well-known tunes this week - this is hardly surprising when you think about the impact 'Jabo' made on modern music. You will be greatly missed and you have left us with some truly outstanding music. THANK YOU 'JABO'

In this special episode, Creamy looks back at the work of Johann Johannsson who sadly passed away in February. Whilst he mostly focuses on his soundtrack work (Varmints, Arrival, Copenhagen Dreams, Dis, Free The Mind, The Mercy, The Miners Hymns, Sicario & The Theory Of Everything), there are a couple of tracks from his last solo album (Orphee) as well as a version he did of a Philip Glass piece. There is even a reworking of one of his pieces from Ryuichi Sakamoto.    The book Creamy was referring to but couldn't remember the name was Lost Connections by Johann Hari and the link he was encouraging you to read before listening to this episode was https://www.xlr8r.com/features/2018/02/johann-johannsson%E2%80%A8-the-endless-pause/.   I hope this episode leads you to exploring in more detail a truly amazing composer.    Love Creamy xx

Sorry, for some reason the cafe intro didn't come out this week. The podcast will start silent but does kick in after about 15 seconds. Chef asked me this week, ‘Does anybody actually read these things? Only it seems a bit of an effort for you to imagine you are a café owner who has hired this classy chef that is squandering her talents cooking fry-ups?’ “Of course people read this. And they buy into the whole café story. Now , I need you back in the kitchen as we are approaching rush hour” “Fair enough”, said Chef. “As I cook, can I put on my ‘Virtues of the Live Recording album?” “Yes you can. What’s on it” “Well, side 1 is all soul & funk and it features Curtis, Bill Withers, Sam & Dave, Deborah Manning, Louise McCord, The Staple Singers, Otis, Herbie, EW&F & Jaco. The other side is a little more mixed” “Let’s play side 1 now and save side 2 till later”   Sorry for the delay this week and thank you for your patience. Love Creamy xx
