En esta edición de Radio Data Club estaremos recorriendo un poco el gran mundo del reggae, un género musical de origen jamaicano, derivado de los géneros rocksteady y el ska. Folks, we have an extremely special guest for this episode! As you all know, I am extremely passionate about music and our guest, Michael Goldwasser has produced music for Yoko Ono, Jason Mraz, Matisyahu, Steel Pulse, Third World, Toots and the Maytals, Kelly Clarkson and many more. He is the mastermind and cofounder of Easy Star Records and the Easy Star All Stars. He developed a unique musical genre - taking classic albums and re-imagining them as reggae. His production "Dub Side of the Moon", a reggae version of Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon", is one of the best-selling Reggae releases of 21st Century, and has been praised by Pink Floyd guitarist/vocalist David Gilmour...not to mention his re-works of Sgt. Peppers, Thriller and OK computer! He has also composed works for the Big Bang theory, CSI NY, Dr. Who, Hawaii 5 -O, Prison Break and True Hollywood Story. Bottom line = he is an amazing talent, and we were super excited to have him on the show. We talked about his love of the New Jersey Nets, indifference to interdimensional beings, the importance of open/positive thoughts, what it was like to impress Thom Yorke, his newest creation "Ziggy Stardub" a re-make of the David Bowie Classic "Ziggy Stardust", his first concert experience (you'll be surprised), his favorite concert ever, the wonders of owning a "Discman", his support for Sarcasm being added to all AI bots, the process of getting Artists to work with him on recreating their classics, he kindly provides his Mount Rushmore of Records, talks about his favorite new artists, the importance of forgetting about Jersey Shore, his memories of a College DJ at WKCR and the upcoming release (and tour) of Ziggy Stardub (April 21st!!!) "Starman" is streaming now, go check it out!. It was an honor and a pleasure to have him on the show and we how you all enjoyed the conversation as much as we did! Victor Rice studied music at Manhattan School of Music intending to be a New York City session bass player. That is until he got talked into joining The Scofflaws in 1988. From that point forward, he became immersed in the world of ska. In fact, after doing a fantastic job producing The Scofflaws' first album, Bucket started hiring him to produce Moon Ska albums. He produced Skavoovie and The Epitones' Ripe, The Pietasters' Oolooloo, The Slackers' Better Late Than Never and The Adjusters' Before The Revolution. Today we speak to Victor Rice about his time in The Scofflaws, producing Moon Ska albums, and playing bass in the New York Ska-Jazz Ensemble. But we also cover his time at King Django's studio Version City, where he and Agent Jay (The Slackers), worked on many a brilliant album like Rocker T's Nicer By The Hour. And we also devote some time to talking about dub techniques and dub history, as Victor has become a master of the genre. His dub name is Strikkly Vikkly. We also talk about Victor's TWO Latin Grammys, some of his work with The Skatalites, what it's like to stay at European squat houses, why he moved to Brazil in 2002, and what it was like to do a dub remix of Hepcat's From Outta Nowhere album. We also talk about Victor's four solo albums: At Version City (1999), In America (2003), Smoke (2017), and Drink (2020)The Proffitt PodcastThe podcast that shows you tips & strategies to create content with confidence!Listen on: Apple Podcasts Spotify Support the show
The Bandulus (BAN-DOO-LOOS) are the brainchild of Jeremy Peña, a musician from Austin, Texas. Formerly of Los Skarnales and the Trenchtown Texans, Peña ventured out on his own to create the traditional ska, reggae, and soul sensation that is The Bandulus. Their first full length album, Ska.Reggae.Soul, was released in 2010 and featured a smattering of well-respected musicians including The Slackers' Vic Ruggiero and Willy Camero, Patrick Kelly, and Jonny Meyers of The Stingers ATX. Following the release, Peña solidified his live band with musicians from the Austin and San Antonio scenes. In November 2012, The Bandulus released their second full length album, The Times We Had, which was featured on countless top 10 lists for ska and reggae records. While staying genuine to the 60's style traditional ska, The Times We Had keeps listeners on their toes by crossing genres, but always with heavy soul influence and heartfelt lyrics. The band's third full-length album, Love A Woman, was released in January 2020 and is smorgasbord of subgenre. Over 14 tracks, The Bandulus tackle early rock ‘n' roll, channel heavy soul sounds, add Motown-style harmonies to ska beats, and put a psychedelic spin on contemporary reggae production. The Bandulus have shared the stage with yesterdays and today's top ska and reggae acts, including ska originators The Skatalites, Inner Circle, The Wailers, The Slackers, Easy Star All Stars, The English Beat, The Aggrolites, Collie Budz, The Skints, Save Ferris, New Kingston, The Suffers, Western Standard Time, The Pietasters and Los Lonely Boys. They were also a featured artist at the 2019 Victoria Ska and Reggae Festival and will feature at the 2020 Freedom Sounds Ska festival in Cologne, Germany. Jamaican patois for bandit, The Bandulus will steal your heart and always leave you smiling. https://www.bandulus.com/bio --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/thesunshineshow/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thesunshineshow/support

Welcome to Ska Boom Interviews, which is the audio companion to my book Ska Boom: An American Ska & Reggae Oral History now available from DiWulf Publishing and Amazon. The goal of this podcast is talk about ska with an emphasis on American ska history and the bands, musicians and people who have helped to create and influence a uniquely American version of ska and reggae that spans from the late 70s until today. In this episode, I'm speaking with Noah Shachtman, the editor in chief of Rolling Stone Magazine. Prior to taking over at Rolling Stone, Noah worked as an editor at Wired Magazine and Foreign Policy Magazine before serving as the editor in chief for The Daily Beast. Before he was an award winning journalist, Noah was a bass player and played with a variety of leading American ska and reggae bands including Skinnerbox, Version City Rockers, Stubborn All Stars and Easy Star All Stars as well as helping to co-found the Sub-Atomic Sound System with Lee "Scratch" Perry. One of the first ska specific things Noah did once he was in charge at Rolling Stone was to book The Slackers to perform live at Rolling Stone Studios last December. Ska Boom is hosted/produced by Marc Wasserman and co-produced/engineered by Rob George. This episode of the Ska Boom podcast is sponsored by BetterHelp.com. We had the pleasure of interviewing The Skints from The Casbah in San Diego, CA. ** This interview was recorded prior to the COVID-19 pandemic ** An eclectic and spirited London four-piece, the Skints deliver a versatile amalgamation of reggae, ska-punk, dub, grime, hip-hop, soul, and dancehall that's as feel-good and soul-stirring as it is hard-hitting and politically charged on the lyrical front. Founded in Northeast London in 2007 by high school friends Marcia Richards, Joshua Waters Rudge, Jamie Kyriakides, and Jonathan Doyle, the group got their start in the ska-punk circuit. Their eponymous debut EP and first full-length, 2009's Live, Breathe, Build, Believe, helped build a loyal fan base that would eventually follow them out of the squat party scene and into the touring underground. After releasing 2012's Part & Parcel, the quartet inked a deal with influential New York City-based reggae and dub label. The resulting FM, released in 2015, was a critical and commercial success, and was supported by a lengthy U.S. tour alongside genre luminaries like Sublime, Easy Star All-Stars, and The Mighty Mighty Bosstones. They returned in 2019 with the introspective Swimming Lessons, which added 8 Bit-influenced dancehall and melodic grunge to the group's arsenal, and featured guest spots from Grammy-nominated Jamaican reggae artist Protoje, freestyler Runkus, and dub and roots reggae star Jesse Royal. ~ James Christopher Monger, Rovi We want to hear from you! The fight for legalization of marijuana has never been easy and it's still not, as evidenced by the recent collapse of a month's long effort in New Jersey and the battle still raging in New York. A key issue in both is how to ensure that legalizing of cannabis doesn't just make for another privatized corporate monopoly. But instead repairs the harm that's been done by the war on drugs. Music in the middle: “Us and Them” by Easy Star All Stars and remixed by Dreadzone from their tribute album to Pink Floyd titled ‘Dubside of the Moon' released on Easy Star Records. We take a departure in our normal routine and interview Michael Goldwasser of Easy Star All Stars about their latest album Thrillah, a reworking of Michael Jackson's Thriller See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Easy Star-All-Stars es el nombre de un sorprendente grupo de músicos jamaicanos, afincado en Nueva York, que se dedican a parodiar grandes discos de la historia del pop, en clave de reggae.
