In this episode we cover Hollywood star and icon, Elizabeth Taylor. We take you through her film career, her many marriages, her advocacy work, and more. In the process we also discuss the way Hollywood, the media, and the public perceived her relationships (because clearly that was their biggest concern) and her self-advocacy. Then we dig into some of the labels the world assigned her and break down where they came from and how valid they are or not. We wrap up the episode speaking about Taylor's legacy, specifically as it relates to her support of those who have suffered from the AIDS epidemic. A CLASSIC ROCKER FINDS OUT HE HAS A LOVE CHILD FROM THE 80's, some insane Movies announced and A wild list of celebrities and how they caught their significant others cheating… it's like celebs are just like us guys!CRAP ON FRIDAY Rick Moranis has been gone way too long. Even those new "Ghostbusters" movies didn't lure him back to Hollywood. But I am quite excited to announce that he WILL return to once again play Dark Helmet in "Spaceballs 2"!!! Bill Pullman will return as the hero Lone Starr, too. And Mel Brooks will be back as Yogurt . . . and, presumably . . . President Skroob. (He played both characters in the original.) Josh Gad co-wrote the script, and he's expected to be in it, too. Pullman's son Lewis Pullman has also been cast, along with Keke Palmer . . . but there's no word who they're playing. There's also no word on any other returning cast members. Obviously, John Candy, Joan Rivers, and Dick Van Patten won't be back, since they're no longer with us. Mel released the first teaser yesterday. There's no footage, since filming hasn't begun yet. It starts with a text crawl that makes fun of all the "Star Wars" prequels, sequels, sequels to the prequels, prequels to the sequels, and TV spin-offs. Then it lists all the "Dune", "Jurassic Park", "Avatar", and Marvel movies, plus DC's TWO attempts to start a cinematic universe . . . and just about every other overdone franchise you can name. Then, after a quick appearance from Mel, we get a shot of Rick Moranis' cracked helmet, and the tagline: "The Schwartz Awakens in 2027." Which sounds like a possible title but it's spaceballs and mel brooks so it could be anything. Here is Mel making his announcement. Jerry Seinfeld Proposes ‘Live-Action Sequel' to 'Bee Movie'Jerry Seinfeld has people buzzin' with this idea! The comedic genius posted about the possibility of a “live-action sequel” to his 2007 animated hit Bee Movie.“Bee Movie, which came out nearly 20 years ago, is #4 on Netflix,” he wrote on Instagram showing a hand holding a tennis ball with a honey bee on it. The next slide was the movie's poster, an image of Seinfeld's character Barry B. Benson similarly straddling a tennis ball.“Today, my friend Spike Feresten, one of the writers on the film, was playing tennis and this happened."He continued, “Clearly a sign. Time for a live-action sequel..?" DreamWorks' Bee Movie, which Seinfeld produced, co-wrote, and starred in along with Renée Zellweger, has become a cult favorite since its release.Bee Movie also featured the voices of Matthew Broderick, John Goodman, Chris Rock, Kathy Bates, Megan Mullally, Oprah Winfrey, and several celebrities appearing as animated versions of themselves, including Larry King, Ray Liotta, and Sting.Saint Louis' own Nelly and Ashanti are putting their lives on TV for all to see. They announced an upcoming reality show called Nelly & Ashanti: We Belong Together.A show synopsis says Nelly and Ashanti "rekindle their love, navigate the ups and downs of being newlyweds and new parents, and juggle their careers."The eight-episode series will air on Peacock starting June 26th.A DNA Test Connects Billy Idol To A Son He Didn't Know He HadDetails on the lovechild Billy Idol didn't know he had until a few years ago have surfaced.Idol's daughter, Bonnie, shared in the new doc, 'Billy Idol Should Be Dead', "My husband just surprised me with a DNA test as a Christmas present [a few years ago]. Then a few weeks later, I get the results back on the app and open it and I'm like, who is this? This Brant. His info reads, 'New York, 1985, looking for my biological dad.' I was like, ‘What?'"Brant, Idol's lovechild, grew up believing his dad was someone else until a different DNA questioned his mother's claims about his father. After confronting his mom, she told Brant, "Well, it's pretty crazy, but back in the day, we broke up and I actually spent a weekend with Billy Idol."Fans have done the math and calculate that Brant was conceived during Idol's wildly successful 1984 'Rebel Yell' tour.Idol has whole-heartedly accepted Brant as family, saying, "I really enjoyed being a dad. I always wanted a boy and a girl, and I finagled my way into a boy and a girl. I actually had a son that I didn't realize, who I fathered on the Rebel Yell tour without knowing it. So I somehow finagled this as well."Brant was at Idol's Walk of Fame ceremony back in 2023.Prime Video Will Soon Show Double The AdsAmazon Prime Video is about to double the number of commercials shown per hour on its ad-supported membership level. An Adweek report got the news from an Amazon spokesperson about the amount of commercials going to "four to six minutes per hour" from the two to three minutes that Prime users are used to. In 2024, subscribers who had ad-free access were forced to pay an extra $3 a month to maintain the status. Jay-Z Loses $1 Million NBA Finals Bet Jay-Z is out $1 million after losing a bet on the NBA Finals. Jay placed a bet prior to the series, banking on the Oklahoma City Thunder to win the championship in five games. After Wednesday night's Thunder loss to the Indiana Pacers, OKC can't win the series unless they do it in six or seven games. Jay-Z would have won $3.5 million if the bet had cashed in. With a net worth of $2.5 billion, we're sure Jay-Z will be alright. Ok you guys remember Spinal Tap? The Album cover debate with the label and why it became an all black cover or as Nigel would say NONE MORE BLACK? It was because the original had a woman on all fours with a dog leash on and it was deemed sexist…. To which Nigel replies “Whats wrong with being sexy? Well get this, Sabrina Carpenter announced her new album yesterday, and it's causing a lot of controversy. It's called "Man's Best Friend", and the cover has Sabrina on all fours, in front of a man who's pulling a handful of her hair. A women's advocacy group in Scotland called it "regressive", saying it reduces women to, quote, "pets, props, and possessions," and promotes "an element of violence and control." Sabrina's fans are defending it as SATIRE, and a commentary on how badly women are treated. And some are pointing out that the first single, "Manchild", actually makes FUN of men. HERE IS A CLIP OF THATMeanwhile, in the new "Rolling Stone" cover story, Sabrina talks about being criticized for the sexual imagery in her stage show. She says, quote "It's always so funny to me when people complain. They're like, 'All she does is sing about this.' But those are the songs that you've made popular. Clearly you love sex. You're obsessed with it." She adds, quote, "I truly feel like I've never lived in a time where women have been picked apart more, and scrutinized in every capacity. I'm not just talking about me. I'm talking about every female artist that is making art right now." Pope Leo isn't even the most famous guy in his family. The "New York Times" researched his family tree, and found out that he's related to a bunch of celebrities. The link is an ancestor from about six generations back. He name was Louis Boucher de Grandpre, and he was born in Quebec. And because of him, Leo is distant cousins with Justin Bieber, Justin Trudeau, Angelina Jolie, Hillary Clinton, Jack Kerouac, and Madonna. It's interesting that Leo would be related to Madonna, given that the Catholic Church has condemned her several times . . . most famously when she released her "Like a Prayer" video in 1989. A few years ago, Madonna reached out to Pope Francis, asking to meet with him to discuss "important matters." She told him, quote, "I've been ex-communicated 3 times. It doesn't seem fair." If you've ever wondered how the creators of "Friends" came up with the character of Joey Tribbiani . . . we might just have the answer this morning. Joey Lawrence claims Matt LeBlanc's character was based on HIS character Joey Russo from "Blossom". Lawrence says, quote, "Joey Russo was so successful that when they were creating 'Friends', they wanted a 25-year-old version of that." Supposedly, Matt's character wasn't even originally called Joey, but they changed it because the "Blossom" character was so successful. Joey even claims that Matt was sent to tapings of "Blossom" where he would, quote, "sit up in the audience with a yellow notepad and take notes on how I portrayed Joey Russo." He says they wanted Matt to bring the "innocence" of Joey Russo to Joey Tribbiani, so the character could, quote, "get away with his womanizing." I guess the Grammys were sick of hearing about whether Beyoncé deserved to win Best Country Album for "Cowboy Carter". So, they just announced a major change. For next year's Grammys, the award formally known as Best Country Album will now be called Best Contemporary Country Album . . . and they will also be adding a new category: Best Traditional Country Album. There's a lot to unpack here. And one year after Beyoncé wins makes the timing of this all the more clickbait-y. According to the Grammy website, "traditional country music", quote, "adheres to the more traditional sound structures of the country genre, including rhythm and singing style, lyrical content, as well as traditional country instrumentation such as acoustic guitar, steel guitar, fiddle, banjo, mandolin, piano, and live drums." Where "contemporary country music", quote, "remains reminiscent and relevant to the legacy of country music's culture, while also engaging in more contemporary music forms." Someone tweeted, "Morgan Wallen and Post Malone better not be in the traditional country category at the Grammys, because in what world are they traditional country?" Wait, hold up. When Morgan collaborated with Alvin and the Chipmunks, that wasn't traditional country??New in Theaters: "How to Train Your Dragon", "Materialists", and "The Life of Chuck" There's nothing like a good breakup story. Here are seven times a celebrity found out their partner was cheating in an unconventional way: 1. Demi Moore learned that Ashton Kutcher was having an affair in 2011, from a Google Alert. When she called him on it, he admitted it right away. Her response was, quote, "Are you [effing] kidding me?" 2. Britney Spears started dating lawyer David Lucado in 2012. But in 2014, her father found out there was paparazzi footage of David kissing another woman. He bought it to prevent it from being released, and Britney broke it off. 3. Kourtney Kardashian dumped Scott Disick in 2008, after finding texts on his phone from a contact called, quote, "my wife." They did the on-and-off thing until 2015, when photos emerged of Scott with another woman in France. 4. Elizabeth Hurley found out Hugh Grant was cheating on her in 1995, when he got arrested for GETTING IT ON with Sunset Boulevard prostitute Divine Brown in his car. They didn't break up until 2000, and they're still friends. 5. Laura Dern found out Billy Bob Thornton was being unfaithful when the news broke that he had ELOPED with Angelina Jolie in 2000. She was away making a movie, and she never saw it coming. 6. Eva Longoria's marriage to NBA star Tony Parker ended in 2010, after she found inappropriate texts with another woman on his phone. 7. This one's ancient history, but it was a HUGE tabloid story back in the day: In 1958, actress Debbie Reynolds was missing her husband, Eddie Fisher, because he was supposedly away on tour. So she decided to give her friend Elizabeth Taylor a call . . . and who answered Liz's phone? Eddie FREAKIN' Fisher. (!!!) Eddie left Debbie and married Liz, but that only lasted five years.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Today on another brand new episode of the Rarified Heir Podcast, we are talking with Rodd Bland, son of blues legend Bobby “Blue” Bland. As this is part two of our interview, we delve deeper with Rodd, who spoke to us on this episode of some of the more silly and fun things about his dad you may not know about the man. Such as? Well, what kind of car did Bobby “Blue” Bland drive? And what color was it? What burger joint was his dad's favorite spot in Los Angeles? We hear that too. And not only do we find out what place that was but we hear of a totally bizarre and wonderful coincidence on their very last visit together, on tour. But sorry – you will have to sign up to hear our Patreon episode to find out what soap opera was Bobby's favorite. We also hear about Rodd's time behind the drum kit as a band leader and also as a guest with some amazing musicians on a recent gig at the Antone's 50th Anniversary at Austin at Austin City Limits. We hear how Rodd started playing the drums and how it used to piss off his dad so much, he had to buy him his first drum kit. We also hear about Rodd's & his dad's relationship with B.B. King – on the road, at home and just hanging out. In fact, Rodd does one really terrific spot-on impression of the man known as Blues Boy that you have to hear to believe. Moreover, we discuss racism in the south, how Rodd is working on selling official Blue merch on the internet and his father's advice to him in life and on stage that seemed to be Blue's mantra for living a good life. It's all here and it's next up on the latest episode of the Rarified Heir Podcast. Everyone has a story.

The Joker famously believed that all it took to drive someone insane was one bad day. But Gordon didn't have to go through what MLB pitchers did 25 years ago this week, on April 7, 2000, when batters hit a combined 57 home runs around the league, setting a new record. Mike and Bill look back on this absolutely wild day and the players who made it so, finding significant milestones, the start and end of careers, and a whole lot of weirdness. Plus, happy birthday to Red Smith and Fred Frankhouse! And farewell to Eddie Fisher and Felipe Montemayor.

I know a lot about historic Hollywood feuds. I could do an entire episode just on the magazine covers featuring Elizabeth Taylor, Eddie Fisher, and Debbie Reynolds circa 1959. But to do any episode on Celebrity Feuds right — particularly one that airs just days before Kendrick Lamar performs at the Super Bowl — I knew I needed a different sort of celebrity feud expert. When Joel Anderson, host of three blockbuster seasons of Slow Burn (including a canonical one on Biggie + Tupac), agreed to come on the show, I legitimately let out a little scream of delight. He has so much knowledge, context, and perspective; this episode is a dream come true. ***Note: This episode was recorded before the Grammys, and we didn't correctly predict Beyonce's AOTY win nor Kendrick Lamar's FIVE awards for “Not Like Us.”***Join the ranks of paid subscribers and get bonus content, access to the discussion threads, ad-free episodes, and the knowledge that you're supporting an indie pod trying to make its way in the world. Academy Award-nominated Nanette Burstein's latest film ELIZABETH TAYLOR: THE LOST TAPES sees the director sifting through 40 hours of previously unheard interviews to build a portrait of actress and philanthropist Elizabeth Taylor using her own words. Taylor presents as a woman who suffers no fools, whether they be paparazzi demonizing her affair (and eventual marriage) to Eddie Fisher, journalists nagging her with questions about "sex symbol" status or critics quick to write her off as just a movie star and pretty face rather than an actress. I interviewed Burstein about the process of sifting through a day-and-a-half's worth of material, the unique serendipity of Taylor's presence at the film's visit to this year's Cannes Film Festival and how Taylor's legacy as an artist and philanthropist can impact others today. In our last episode, singer Eddie Fisher left his wife, actress Debbie Reynolds, for her friend Elizabeth Taylor, the movie starlet with ‘violet' eyes. Eddie and Elizabeth had bonded over losing Mike Todd, Eddie's best friend and Elizabeth's husband, and fell into a whirlwind love affair. Now it's 1959, and Eddie and Elizabeth are married. Was it worth all the drama? Today, many people know that Elizabeth Taylor famously had seven husbands—and, unbeknownst to Eddie at the time, he was only husband #4. Here's the Eddie chapter in Elizabeth's long and fascinating love life. ***** This is a teaser for a bonus episode. You can listen to it in full on Patreon! Fifty years before the Brad-Jen-Angelina love triangle, there was Eddie Fisher, Debbie Reynolds, and Elizabeth Taylor. In the early 1950s, crooner Eddie Fisher and actress Debbie Reynolds were officially known as “America's Sweethearts.” They were also best friends with actress Elizabeth Taylor and her husband Mike Todd, and were even in each other's weddings. After Mike Todd tragically died in a plane crash, Eddie went to comfort his best friend's wife (and wife's best friend) Elizabeth Taylor. He ended up spending the night—and starting an affair that scandalized the nation. Did Elizabeth feel any remorse for ‘stealing' her friend's husband? “I don't go about breaking up marriages. You can't break up a happy marriage,” she said. “Debbie's and Eddie's never has been.” Join us as we read through the “lore” and history of this infamous love triangle that rocked the end of the 1950s. ***** Significant Lovers is a true-love podcast about historic and celebrity couples. At the turn of the last century, the French Riviera was mostly a winter destination for those in colder climates. It turns out that "fun in the sun" and "playground for the rich" are fairly modern concepts, but in a brilliant real estate move, American actress Maxine Elliott created both. Her waterfront Château de l'Horizon, constructed in 1932, became a veritable clubhouse for the rich, famous, and powerful on both sides of the Atlantic. Alicia takes us through some of the more notable personages, stories, and affairs from the heyday of the Château de l'Horizon, under Maxine Elliott's ownership, and later that of Prince Aly Khan. Among the luminaries who appear in this episode: Gerald and Sara Murphy; King Edward VII; William Montagu, 9th Duke of Manchester; George Keppel; Alice Keppel; Jennie Jerome Churchill; Winston Churchill; Elsie de Wolfe; Prince George, Duke of Kent; J.P. Morgan; King George V; King Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson; Cecil Beaton; Cimmie Mosley; Picasso; Prime Minister David Lloyd George; the Aga Khan; Clark Gable; George Bernard Shaw; Lady Diana Cooper; Lady Doris Castlerosse; Daisy Fellows; Marion Davies; Edwina Mountbatten, Countess of Burma; The Mitford Sisters (and their brother); Randolph Churchill Jr.; Evelyn Waugh; Gloria Guinness; Kick Kennedy; Prince Aly Khan; Pamela Churchill; Rita Hayworth; Gianni Agnelli; JFK and Jackie Kennedy; Aristotle Onassis; Elizabeth Taylor and Eddie Fisher, just to name a few. By the summer of 1953 network radio was allocating increasing time to local affiliates. Budgets were shifting to TV. The final episode of The Martin & Lewis show aired on July 14th at 9PM eastern time. Gloria Graham was the guest. Opposite on CBS, Yours Truly Johnny Dollar aired starring John Lund. Dean and Jerry made six more films together. Their last was Hollywood Or Bust in 1956. During shooting in 1956, their mutual animosity reached the point where Lewis would only speak to Martin through director Frank Tashlin, and Martin told Lewis he was nothing but a dollar sign. After the film completed principal photography on June 19th, their breakup was widely reported. They fulfilled their contractual obligations with a farewell engagement at the Copacabana Club. Their last appearance was on July 25th, 1956, exactly ten years after their first teaming in Atlantic City. Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis didn't speak again privately for twenty years. Although both continued to thank each other publicly, like in this Dean Martin interview with Edward R. Murrow from 1958. They crossed paths that year when Lewis was a guest on Eddie Fisher's TV show. Martin jumped out from behind a curtain with a memorable line. The crowd—and Lewis—couldn't contain their affection. Free from Lewis, Dean Martin became a huge star, both as a recording artist, as a movie actor on his own and as a member of the Rat Pack. He also hosted his own hugely successful TV variety series, The Dean Martin Show. Lewis remained with Paramount Pictures, appearing in and directing a succession of commercially successful films, at one point becoming Paramount's biggest star. He continued philanthropic work, which led to mutual good friend Frank Sinatra finally reuniting the duo on live TV during Jerry Lewis' 1976 Labor Day telethon. They embraced, with Lewis in tears, and their friendship renewed. Both claimed they spoke every day from then on.

Today on the 100th episode of the Rarified Heir Podcast, we talk to…wait a minute, we talk to Josh Mills? That's right, we've flipped the script! Because this is a milestone for us, having launched during Covid and posting a new episode for 100 weeks in a row, we decided to do something to celebrate. Something different. Our amazing and talented friend Daisy Torme took the time out of her busy schedule to guest host this 100th episode today and interview our regular host Josh Mills in a Freaky Friday moment no one saw coming. So Daisy is our host and Josh is our guest. Hmnnnn…. Daisy was the perfect person to take over the episode as they have had a familial connection that goes back decades. Josh's dad Marty Mills and Daisy's dad Mel Torme were friends from the early 50s in New York and while there were rough patches, Marty, Mel, Buddy Rich and Sammy Davis Jr. had a unique, irreverent, competitive, fraternal bond that we spoke about in episode 68. So Daisy was the perfect choice to do this because as the Buddy Rich & Mel Torme album title goes, we're Together Again for the First Time. We talk about Josh's years growing up the child of a celebrity with his mother, entertainer Edie Adams, professional photographer Martin Mills & running the estate of Edie's first husband Ernie Kovacs. Along the way, we touch on Mills Music, an iconic music publishing company run by Josh's grandfather Jack Mills, Mia Kovacs, Josh's sister, the mob, Edie's love of comedians & musicians, Marty's ship to shore mobile phone, Maury Wills, Italian food, Peter Sellers, Eddie Fisher, Edie's nightclub act and John Kenley, a name you will look up during the podcast, we are sure. But before we begin the episode, we have to thank our former producer/engineer Erik Paparazzi for his help in getting this off the ground in the early days and to Jason Klamm, who was the first one to sign on to the podcast as co-host back in 2020 when this wasn't even close to reality and to Jamie Harley (that's me) for all his help, patience and effort in making this podcast last 100 episode. His commitment to this podcast is unparalleled and quite literally, we never would have gotten to 100 episode without him. We also owe a huge thank you to Daisy for her time, effort, interest, kindness, research and help in making this 100th episode a reality. But most importantly, we want to thank you, the listeners, for commenting on social media, for emailing us ideas and suggestions and generally, letting us know that all this is worth it. Some new things are happening with the podcast – we've launched our Patreon page today so if you feel like what we are doing is worthy, let us know and feel free to send along a little something as a one-time pledge, a monthly pledge or just provide more an encouragement. While this podcast is a labor of love, we hope to make it even better over the next 100 episodes. And with that…we bring you Daisy and Josh, the podcast centennial

Additionally we speak about Spencer's dad, Richard Heckencamp, a personal manager for numerous celebrities. OneRepublic is an American pop rock band formed in Colorado Springs, Colorado,[5] in 2002. It consists of lead vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Ryan Tedder, lead guitarist and violist Zach Filkins, rhythm guitarist Drew Brown, bassist and cellist Brent Kutzle, drummer Eddie Fisher and keyboardist and violinist Brian Willett. The band achieved its first commercial success on Myspace as an unsigned act.[6] In late 2002, after OneRepublic played shows throughout the Los Angeles area, several record labels approached the band with interest, but the band signed with Velvet Hammer, an imprint of Columbia Records. They made their first album with producer Greg Wells during the summer and fall of 2005 at his studio, Rocket Carousel, in Culver City, California. The album was scheduled for release on June 6, 2006, but the group was dropped by Columbia two months before the album was released. The lead single of that album, "Apologize", was released on April 30, 2006, on Myspace and received some recognition there, becoming number one on the Myspace charts. In 2007, OneRepublic released their debut album, Dreaming Out Loud. Its lead single, "Apologize", was remixed by Timbaland, becoming a huge international success, reaching number one in sixteen countries and subsequently earning them a Grammy Award nomination.[7] The second single, "Stop and Stare", mirrored its predecessor's success. The album was later certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The band's second album, Waking Up (2009), produced the singles "All the Right Moves", "Secrets", "Marchin On", and "Good Life", with the last reaching the top ten of the US Billboard Hot 100.OneRepublic's third album, Native (2013), became the band's first top ten album on the Billboard 200, and highest-charting album to date, charting at number four. The lead single, "If I Lose Myself", charted within the top ten in several countries, while the album's third single, "Counting Stars", became the band's most successful single in recent years, obtaining top-five placements in Australia, Canada, Germany, Ireland, New Zealand, the US, and the UK. This marks their highest-charting single in the United Kingdom to date. It also peaked at number 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100, matching their highest peak of "Apologize" in 2007.On October 7, 2016, OneRepublic released Oh My My, their fourth studio album, which featured a number of collaborators, including Cassius, Peter Gabriel, and Santigold. Preceded by the singles "Wherever I Go", released on May 13, 2016, and "Kids", released on August 12, 2016, it was recognized as a change in their sound from previous albums by critics and by the band. In 2017, the band released the singles "No Vacancy", "Truth to Power", "Stranger Things" with Kygo and "Rich Love" with Seeb. Their fifth studio album, Human, was released in 2021. The band has sold approximately over 16 million records worldwide.
The biggest names in Hollywood and Broadway recorded for AFRS during the war years, The American Forces Network can trace its origins back to May 26, 1942, when the War Department established the Armed Forces Radio Service (AFRS). The U.S. Army began broadcasting from London during World War II, using equipment and studio facilities borrowed from the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). The first transmission to U.S. troops began at 5:45 p.m. on July 4, 1943, and included less than five hours of recorded shows, a BBC news and sports broadcast. That day, Corporal Syl Binkin became the first U.S. Military broadcasters heard over the air. The signal was sent from London via telephone lines to five regional transmitters to reach U.S. troops in the United Kingdom as they prepared for the inevitable invasion of Nazi-occupied Europe. Fearing competition for civilian audiences the BBC initially tried to impose restrictions on AFN broadcasts within Britain (transmissions were only allowed from American Bases outside London and were limited to 50 watts of transmission power) and a minimum quota of British produced programming had to be carried. Nevertheless AFN programmes were widely enjoyed by the British civilian listeners who could receive them and once AFN operations transferred to continental Europe (shortly after D-Day) AFN were able to broadcast with little restriction with programmes available to civilian audiences across most of Europe (including Britain) after dark. As D-Day approached, the network joined with the BBC and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation to develop programs especially for the Allied Expeditionary Forces. Mobile stations, complete with personnel, broadcasting equipment, and a record library were deployed to broadcast music and news to troops in the field. The mobile stations reported on front line activities and fed the news reports back to studio locations in London. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Entertainment Radio Stations Live 24/7 Sherlock Holmes/CBS Radio Mystery Theater https://live365.com/station/Sherlock-Holmes-Classic-Radio--a91441 https://live365.com/station/CBS-Radio-Mystery-Theater-a57491 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today on the Rarified Heir Podcast, we present Part 2 of our interview with Daisy Torme & James Torme, children of the great Mel Torme and actress Janette Scott. This episode is a long one. This entire conversation was almost three full hours because there was just so much to talk about. We really get a glimpse into the life of these two international siblings who lived in both England and America, spending time with both their parents after the divorce. These trips brought Daisy and James closer and made their time with both their parents all the more special. Their bond and their love for their parents shines through in every story. We also hear about how dad said goodbye to them from the Ambassadors Lounge at LAX on their transatlantic trip back to the U.K. and how he would turn down gigs in the Summertime and Christmas so he could spend time with his kids. Their mother, who made her last film in about 1967 starred in so many sci-fi classic films she actually has an annual film festival dedicated to her and how she became part of pop culture lore as she is namedropped in the song “Science Fiction/Double Feature” from The Rocky Horror Picture Show. And we haven't even discussed their their grandmother, iconic British actress Dame Thora Hild whose 70 year career in film and TV in England made her a household name and her passing was treated like a state funeral. It's story after story on part two of our episode with Daisy and James. Names like Eddie Fisher, David Frost, Glenn Frey, Edith Head, Buddy Rich and more are just some of the people we discuss. Wait for the Tony Randall in Tokyo story and you might have heard it all, because that one blew us away. It's next on the Rarified Heir Podcast.

On this week's annotated deep dive, The Cultists present Rob Cohen's The Fast and the Furious (2001). This unassuming summer flick, filmed on a shockingly modest budget of only 40 million in the early days of 2001, was never supposed to be anything other than a one-off— a “lifestyle movie” examining the intimate network of the LA Street Racing scene with a bit of petty larceny thrown in. With a title borrowed from Roger Corman to evoke the heyday of 1950s teen drive-in exploitation, and packed with homage action recreations of 1930s Westerns, no one anticipated that such an effort would grow into one of the longest and highest grossing international franchises in history, turning from a love letter of the local quarter mile into Mission Impossible with high luxury imports. Where the Fast series will go is fun, but really stopping to appreciate its origins is better. The Cultists do just that, examining where it all began and how this first film, if one slows down enough to really appreciate the scenic details, is an unexpectedly unique and earnest gem of incredible technical skill. Deep dives include: how this got made; breakdown of the digital effects, editing; camera work and composites; those real-life street racing extras; the “borrowed” action homages (from Stagecoach to Bullet); filming locations and the home base allure of Echo Park; That House that confusingly has nothing to do with Eddie Fisher or Elizabeth Taylor; and the history and uses of the lifeblood that is NOS. Now, for the first time in his own words in *The Dr. Feelgood Casebook,* Doctor Max Jacobson, code-named “Dr. Feelgood” by the Secret Service under President John F. Kennedy, writes about his own life, his patients, and his “magic” formula that addicted not only JFK, but Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, and celebrities from all walks of life to his methamphetamine injections. In addition, Dr. Feelgood's own patients describe their dealings with the man who brought the meth epidemic to America. Through interviews with celebrities and notable individuals, including Dr. Michael Baden, Eddie Fisher, Gore Vidal, and Joey Bishop, the authors reveal Jacobson's vast influence on events such as the assassination of JFK, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Kennedy-Khrushchev Vienna Summit, the murder of Marilyn Monroe, the filming of the C. B. DeMille classic "The Ten Commandments", and the work of many of the great artists of that era. Jacobson destroyed the lives of several famous patients in the entertainment industry and accidentally killed his own wife, Nina, with an overdose of his formula. In a series of heretofore unpublished interviews with celebrity singer and Jacobson patient Eddie Fisher, the *Casebook* reveals the behind-the-scenes goings on in the Kennedy White House, especially leading up to the assassination, as Fisher brought an assortment of young movie starlets to meet the president in private. Here is a snapshot of American political life before the #METOO movement that has it all: sex, drugs, power, and influence. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/RickLertzman/support
