Oleg is back from a whirlwind trip to Cubs spring training, Innings Festival and his first look at Toilet Flapper Field and he has stories to tell. Praz tries to guess who Gary Clark Jr's favorite Cub is, and Andy is relieved that Petecrow's leg is in one piece and that Matt Shaw's batting stance seems to be in working order. They discuss Cole Wright's play by play efforts, a juicy rumor about Boog and Japan and celebrate the return of everybody's favorite Cubs legend, Yency Almonte. Plus, for some reason they briefly talk about the upcoming F1 season, Nico Hoerner's token IL visit and fall down a Damon Buford sized hole remembering some crap about the 2000 Cubs team that went to Japan. All that, and more.

ZZ Ward began singing at the age of 8, inspired by her father's extensive blues collection. By 12, she was already performing blues music, and it helped steer every aspect of her early career, from her musical sound to her signature Fedora. But as a professional female musician, she often felt pressured to compromise her blues roots to meet industry demands. She quickly became a buzzed-about artist, earning a major label deal and breaking into Billboard's Top 40 with her debut release. Her sophomore album hit #1 on the Billboard Blues chart, highlighted by singles featuring GRAMMY-Award winners Fantastic Negrito and Gary Clark Jr. We talk about her new album, life as a mom, touring with Slash and so much more.
Gun N' Roses founding guitarist Slash talks to us about his recent solo album Orgy Of The Damned, a collection of blues and R&B covers featuring a stellar guest list that includes Paul Rodgers, Steven Tyler, Beth Hart, Iggy Pop, Gary Clark Jr., Billy F. Meg and guest Lydia Lobb discuss just how pervasive and insidious animal exploitation paradigms are in our education systems at all levels. From kinder milk programs to rodeo fundraisers and free fishing rods, animal exploitation seems to be baked into our education system in Australia. We talk about many examples and the difficulties of navigating the system when raising compassionate kids. Have things gotten better over time? What was it like for our generation? Our parents generation? And will it become better for future generations? This week on Roots Music Rambler, hosts Francesca Folinazzo (Frank) and Jason Falls (Falls) are joined by country music singer and songwriter Rachel Brooke. Her new single is out and she is touring the U.S. this summer to drum up anticipation for an EP later this year and perhaps a new full album in 2025. She sat in with Frank and Falls to share her journey from being a teenage punk band drummer to crooning country songs in honky tonks around the midwest. She also discussed her music and writing, the layoff from touring and recording brought about my motherhood and much more. Frank and Falls also talk about being locked in a hotel room … twice. (And yes, we said locked “in”!) Falls shares his experience seeing Joy Oladokun, Gary Clark Jr., and others at the inaugural I Made Rock and Roll festival in Indianapolis. Talk So Real with Matt Sonzala is back for the 2 0 2 4 y'all! And this one is a BIG ONE! I finally got to sit down and have a real talk with Austin's own Alesia Lani! Alesia is an incredible singer with a dynamic energy who has taken the city by storm in recent years and just released her debut album (though I have had so many jams from her over the years I really don't believe that!) Self-Titled and it's a banger. True to form, Alesia slays in a wide range of sounds on this album from a rockin' banger with Jackie Venson, to a cool out jam with John Deas on the track and Gary Clark Jr. on the hook, to going back to her roots in hip hop on songs with The Teeta and Megz from Magna Carda, this album is a real journey and I think you will love to trip we take on these mics as we Talk So Real. Tune in and have a listen and tell a friend to tell a friend that Talk So Real with Matt Sonzala is BACK! @alesialanimusic New Album “Self-Titled” available now

We are so excited to have returning guests Patrick Sanders & Gabe Gebremedhin of Lone Tree back on No Simple Road this week! Lone Tree, based in Nairobi, Kenya, is a group of 5 expat teens formed 6 years ago to create a high energy, powerful sound that is contemporary yet firmly rooted in their influences from rock, blues, funk, reggae, and the legacy of great, live music. The band was originally named Refuge which represented what they are all about: escaping from shallow, inauthentic music. First meant as tongue and cheek, it came to symbolize their drive for social progress. Lone Tree's influences are broad and reflect their deep knowledge of music history across many genres. Major influences include the Allman Brothers, Pink Floyd, Gary Clark Jr., The Wailers, Xavier Rudd, Brittany Howard, Funkadelic, Sublime, Jethro Tull, Groundation, Fleetwood Mac and King Gizzard. We talk with the guys a bit about: Moving back from South Africa to the US for college. The hurdles faced in having a band spread across the globe. Facing difficult life transitions while staying focused on the goal. How they managed to record new music while in different countries. Some of the cultural differences between South Africa and the USA. Some of the strategy behind releasing new music. Why stellar performances make such an indelible impact. What each of their dream venues would be. Being here in the US for school, what foods are they missing from home. ... and so much more! Welcome back. We're wrapping up our holiday and finishing up the second part of Paul Rieckhoff's discussion with hip hop icon Chuck D. This half is a little more fun and a great look back before we head into the holidays and the New Year. We'll be back in December with more great all new content for you, but for now here is the rest of this amazing conversation. From Episode 86 - Nov. 20, 2020: As America faces power fights like we've never seen before, the legendary founder of Public Enemy joins us to explore and explain fighting the power: 2020 style. This is Chuck D--a voice of consciousness, outrage, inspiration and action for over 35 years---unplugged and uninterrupted. Just when our country needs it the most. Chuck D (@MisterChuckD) is one of the most iconic and important American artists of the last century. He's an activist, organizer, inspiration, and the ultimate angry American. He's testified before Congress, co-hosted a political radio show with The Daily Show Founder, Liz Winstead and MSNBC's Rachel Maddow, and collaborated with artists ranging from Prince, to Anthrax, to Sonic Youth, to Rage Against the Machine, to Gary Clark Jr., to Logic, to Sheryl Crow. Chuck is the powerful, driving force behind arguably the most disruptive hip hop group in history. Born in the intersection of culture and politics, the hip hop trailblazers have interpreted the righteous anger of millions worldwide for decades. In the late 80s and early 90s, their first four albums went gold or platinum. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and honored this year with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Our host, Paul Rieckhoff (@PaulRieckhoff), and Chuck have been friends for almost two decades. And this is Chuck from inside his home, raw, candid, and without commercial interruption. Chuck and Rieckhoff know how to throw punches. And their conversation will give you advice on fighting the power (and living life) that will leave you inspired for the tough fights ahead. Every episode of Independent Americans hosted by author, activist and social entrepreneur Paul Rieckhoff is the truth beyond the headlines–and light to contrast the heat of other politics and news shows. It's content for the 49% of Americans that proudly call themselves independent. Always with a unique focus on national security, foreign affairs and military and veterans issues. This is another pod to help you stay vigilant. Because vigilance is the price of democracy. In these trying times especially, Independent Americans will continue to be your trusted place for independent news, politics, inspiration and hope. -Watch Paul and Chuck D's conversion on YouTube. -Join the movement.
