The LAMBcast

Two old guys talk about a kids movie and get the nostalgia feels. Todd Liebenow and Richard have some deep talk about childhood, family and social media, as well as enjoying the newest entry into the Toy Story Franchise. If you are not sentimental, this may be an episode that will make you so. In spite of the billing credits, Jessie (Joan Cusack) is the star of this particular film, and a battalion of horses or advanced Buzz Lightyears are not going to change that. So get that snake out of your boot, bring some Kleenex to the show, and let's go to Infinity and Beyond.  

Steven Spielberg is back in his blockbuster habitat with a June release. Will his return to a science fiction summer movie be a success? We will find out as Aaron Neuwirth and Justin Gott return to the show after some online fretting by the host concerning Spielberg's audience appeal. Howard Casner was an early in on the show, and as is often the case, he is a bit of an outlier of opinions. How is this movie like Scorsese's "The Irishman", should we trust the media even less than the government, just how good is Emily Blunt? Theology, politics, and human nature are all part of the conversation, come have a listen.Update: The accidental crossfades in the episode have been removed. This is a cleaner version of the show now. 

Regardless of the box office, the LAMBs this week were very enthusiastic about the updated version of "Masters of the Universe". For some it is an extension of their childhood nostalgia, for others, who have no roots in the toys, cartoons or previous film, it was just a relief to find something geared to entertainment. Fangirls Jeanette Ward and Heather Baxendale Walsh join the show to prove "They Have The Power!"

Another guest host brings the heat to the Lambcast this week, as Matthew Simpson leads noir aficionado Howard Casner, and Physical Media Maven Dave Anderson, through a discussion of a lesser known entry in the genre.  "The Big Combo" has gained a reputation as time goes on, and the guests this week explain why. It may not be the star of the film that draws them in, but the antagonists, from top to bottom are all up to speed. Watch out for the spoiler wall because the plot is full of twists and characters who may also be twisted. 

A new Star Wars Movie usually excites the Lambs to a bleating frenzy, but this week's episode drew only the loyalist of fans. Matthew Poirier of the "Direct to Video Connoisseur" podcast and site, takes over the hosting duties while Richard is traveling. Matt's guests are Jeanette Ward and Todd Liebenow and they have things to say. Most of those things are good, but there is some criticism along the way. Everyone sees the seams of a series seasons worth of episodes being stitched together, but there were not really any complaints about it. Matt admittedly lets some digression in the conversation slip through, but that is the kind of thing that makes a show worth listening to. 

The LAMBcast is infused with Videogame enthusiasts this week, chafing at the bit to share their thoughts about the latest version of the cinematic Mortal Kombat franchise. All hands are on deck to engage in verbal Kombat with Lisa Leaheey, Matt Poirier, Aaron Neuwirth and Jeanette Ward seek their Arcana as fists, swords, razor hats and fireball fly.  If you like videogames, this conversation is right up your alley. 

We have a new format for an episode, and guest hoist Aaron Neuwirth takes over the reins this week as a bunch of movie bros take on the Hollywood Remake Cycle. There are plenty of bad remakes, but this show focuses on the ones that the guests think are worth a damn. See if you agree with Aaron and his guests Matthew Simpson, Matthew Poirier and Dave Anderson. They find some remakes that you may not have realized were remakes and a few obvious ones that stand up to and even exceed the original. The Exit Question asks what film you would like to see remade, and your suggestions are welcome.

We skipped franchise MOTM tradition this April and stick to the new genre format. Animation was the choice for April and the selection of 1982's The Last Unicorn seemed to be a popular one for the guests this week. Rachel Wagner, Matthew Simpson, Tony Cogan and Bubbawheat all are struck by the look of the film, and the characters in the story. There were a few reservations about other elements of the movie, but generally you can say all the guests this week were fans of the film. 

We are always up for new things on the LAMBcast and this week we try one of those new things out. This episode features the first credits of acting talent and why they managed to break through. Howard Casner and Aaron Neuwirth bring several important examples of career launching performances to talk about. You will recognize most of them, but then we end up chatting about a few first roles that are more obscure. Just like the premise, this is a first time appearance of this format, what do you think. The exit question draws some self analysis from the guests as well, you might want to attempt an answer yourself. 

It's true it has only been a month since the last "roll Your Own" Episode, but it is such a fun format and we have a completely new set of guests, so you won't be bored by repetition. Nicole Ayers, Dave Anderson, Jeffrey Lyles and David Brook all have new and creative top five lists to share with you, and the exit question of the week will definitely encourage you to seek out the illustrated podcast on YouTube. It is a long episode but it will not feel that way once you start listening.

A deep friendship between scientist and High School teacher Ryland Grace and an alien resembling a smaller version of Galaxy Quest's rock monster, brings together friends from the LAMB to sing it's praises. "Project Hail Mary" based on a novel from the same author as "The Martian", Andy Weir, postulates a natural element as the source of Earth's demise, as well as significant parts of the universe. Ryan Gosling goes to space to look for solutions, and although it looks like he might be alone, the universe has other plans. Rabid readers Lisa Leaheey and Heather Baxendale-Walsh join Howard Casner and Tony Cogan for a lively cheer squad discussion of the film. 

The LAMB community chose the least Western western for this month's selection as MOTM. Not a spaghetti western but a kimchi western, from Korea, set in Manchuria, in the 1930s. "The Good The Bad The Weird" is a takeoff on the Sergio Leone film in many ways, but it is also vastly different. Howard Casner championed the film and hosts the discussion and he and Richard are joined by Matthew Simpson, for one wild ride across the far east, in western garb to talk about it. If you like Sergio Leone, Indiana Jones, Sam Rami and a lot of madcap action, then this film and the discussion are for you. 

One of the most contentious movies of the year, and the biggest flop so far, "The Bride" from writer/director Maggie Gyllenhaal provoked a wide rage of opinions on this week's show.  We had lovers and haters and some who admired it's attempts but also mocked it's execution. Current Academy Award favorite Jessie Buckley will not be in contention in next year's race, at least not for this film where her performance is directed to a high pitched scream way to often. Is this a visionary reimaging of the Frankenstein story or the worst movie you will see for a long time? The Vern, Amanda Kirkham, Rachel Wagner and Howard Casner are all over the place in their opinions of the film, which is fitting because the film itself is also all over the place. It that a good thing? Come decide for yourself.

The long running "Scream" franchise shows up for a seventh iteration and the LAMB is there to talk about it. How does it measure up to the earlier episodes, are the new characters interesting enough to keep track of, wait, the killer is...you are kidding me?  Neve Campbell and Courtney Cox return to the series, and they bring some legacy characters to the show in a way that may frighten you more than anything going on on screen. Horror veterans Lisa Leaheey, Amanda Kirkham and Richard are joined by fright film dilettante Nicole Ayers for a slice of Hollywood mining operations. The opinions will surprise you more than the killer reveal. 

We invited some LAMBs to create Top Five Lists for the week to share with you. We got two old school LAMBs to join the show, along with two old LAMBs and we imported one from Great Britain as well. You are going to hear about Film Festivals, Character Actors, Anthology films and comedies. Oh yeah, we also get some risqué talk about male appendages that  show up in movies when they are least expected. Howard Casner, Nick Jobe, Tony Cogan, and Jason Soto are our guests, do you have any doubt about who found five wangs to talk about? The biggest dick on the show is not named Richard. 

A low turnout on the poll did not keep us from having a great discussion on this pivotal socially relevant film.  1967 was a tipping point for Hollywood and "In the Heat of the Night" won the Academy Award for Best Picture in a contest between old and new Hollywood. Dave Anderson of the Free Kittens Movie Guide championed the film and hosts the discussion. Pop Art's Howard Casner and Matthew Simpson from the Awesome Friday Podcast also step up to cover a dozen or more issues related to this film. In addition to the attention that the two stars of the movie receive, the LAMBs on this week's show go deep to talk about some other cast members as well.  We guarantee that you will smile more than a turnip while listening or watching the show this week. 

Although we did a sports movie draft in 2019, that episode is lost in the ethernets. Besides, we have new LAMBs and a hundred or more Sports movies to choose from since then, so we are just going to do it again. We celebrate 800 episodes of the Lambcast this week, and in the ten years that Richard has joined the podcast, he managed to be on more than half the episodes now. Happy New Year! and that means looking back at last year. This week we have a handful of guests on the show and a handful of lists from guests who could not make the show. What films did the LAMB community love,? Here they are for you to enjoy. Howard Casner, Jeanette Ward, MovieRob, Tony Cogan, and Rachel Wagner are in person. The Shepard also rounded up some LAMBs that could not make it into the corral,  Dave Anderson, Aaron Neuwirth, Chris Tanski, and Todd Liebenow provide their proxies for you to hear as well. Lots of differences of opinions, and the one most consistently mentioned film get shunted into a corner by the Shepard. Come have a listen before you put 2025 out of memory. 

There were nearly 150 films released to theaters in the last three months of 2025, and the LAMBcast only devoted four shows to entirely new films. This is a chance to talk about Oscar bait films, Holiday Blockbusters, and off the beaten path films that were overlooked on the show in the last quarter of 2025. Todd Liebenow, Howard Casner, David Brook and MovieRob join the cast to talk about what they have seen but we haven't talked about yet. It's a great time to catch up. 

There was early interest in "Hamnet" from the LAMB community when the schedule first went out, but two guests had to drop out of the show a day before recording and an SOS went out for replacements. Fortunately the call was answered and Rachel Wagner of "Rachel's Reviews" came in and did the work of two to make the show more complete. Of course returning LAMB Latoya Austin from "Frangalis27Tales", was just as invested in talking about this highly praised fictionalization of the circumstances in Shakespeare's life which led to the greatest play in history.  There are a few rabbit holes that we go down as we talk about the film, but rest assured, the amazing Jessie Buckley comes in for a deserved amount of praise for her starring turn as the Bard's largely unknown spouse. If you are up for a thoughtful discussion of Shakespeare, history, and movie production, you will want to listen or watch this episode.  

By executive action, "Santa Jaws" was chosen to be the MOTM for our December Christmas themed MOTM. The cheesy nature of the film encouraged a great number of puns, bad jokes, and alternative endings and title for a sequel. Let's face it, if you choose to watch a film called "Santa Jaws" you know what you are getting into. Our resident shark movie expert and former host of this podcast, Jay Cluitt, joins fan Jeanette Ward, skeptic Matthew Simpson, and up for almost anything Aaron Neuwirth, for a raucous hour of appreciation and derisiveness.  " Hey, this is classic global-warming. Non-indigenous species species roaming into unfamiliar territories. It happens all...""You are not listening to me! That is not a shark, that is Santa Jaws! It's Santa Jaws."

Another Special Episode of the Lambcast, while the Holidays occupy our time. This week Howard Casner shares his thoughts about the Channing Tatum dramadey "Roofman" starring Kirsten Dunst. What is promoted as a comedy action film is really a warm hearted romantic drama, featuring excellent performances from the two leads. The film is based on an incredible true crime story of an escaped robber who hides out in a Toys r' Us for several months, while managing a romance with a local woman who is unaware of her new beau's status as a wanted man. 

The horror film that is told from the Dog's perspective, "Good Boy", arrives on Shudder this week. It received a short theatrical run, which Lisa Leaheey and I both had an opportunity to attend last month. Because of the holidays and personal travel, regular episodes of the Lambcast are next available in December. So, in lieu of that, here is a "Special" Edition for you featuring our favorite Rhode Island Horror fan.  

Matthew Simpson from the Awesome Friday Podcast, shows why he is awesome by taking over the hosting duties for the November MOTM. The Genre for November was sports films, and a lot of votes came in, ultimately the Gold Medal went to 1993' "Cool Runnings" the Disney film about the Jamaican Bobsled team in the 1988 Winter Olympics. His guests this week ate "The Vern" from Cinema Recall and Matt Poirier of the Direct to Video Connoisseur. You get some Disney Talk, some John Candy opinions, and an enthusiastic review of a family film. The Exit Question follow up n Olympic Dreams (or in the case of the Vern, Nightmares). "C'om Have a listen mon".

This week we explore the exotic world of Genna, the Australia of the galaxy. Everything here wants to kill you, including a young Yautja, seeking to prove himself to his clan. A tight action film with a science fiction background and based on a long standing IP, it will work, right? Surprise! It does. Aaron Neuwirth and Jeannette Ward are long time "Predator" fans and they will vouch for this film this week,. We get a Predator as the antagonist, a connection to a different Sci-Fi franchise, and some clever storytelling. Plus there are the usual trails that lead to unexpected destinations with the LAMBs, James Bond for instance. How can you resist?  

In another act of self disclosure, our LAMBs this week reveal some of their blind spots and why they have missed out on those movies. Howard has a Hitchcock film on his list, and a modern horror film that most of the LAMB community has already seen. Todd simply feels guilty about buying VHS tapes and not having yet caught up on them, although one featuring Andy Griffin is going to make him happy in watching it and sad that he has missed it for so long. Amazingly, Richard has a swashbuckler featuring Errol Flynn on his list and a film featuring his favorite actor, which embarrasses him about having skipped. The Lambcast got blindsided by studio schedule shuffles, so instead of engaging in Mortal Kombat this weekend, our guests took a trip down a scary memory lane. Aaron Neuwirth, Jeanette Ward, Matt Poirier and Lisa Leaheey all agreed to a shift to a Halloween feature for the show. We talk about our first horror movie experiences in theaters, at home and with a special someone. Everyone brought their own questions to the show as well. If you enjoy our podcasts, come meet the podcasters on this week's show and learn what scares them.

Sometimes there is nothing you want to leave the house to see in a theater. After all, you already saw the newest Marvel movie three times, or it's October and you don't dig horror films, so what can you do? Well to take a phrase from fifteen years ago, and make you feel old with the reference, you can “Netflix and Chill”. That's exactly what we are doing on this week's show, although with my guests this week, there are no romantic intentions to go along with the saying. We are simply going to talk about what films or limited series we have been checking out recently on the streamers. Netflix is not the only pit stop on the internet any more, and all the channels are creating original content for their subscribers. Dave Anderson and Howard Casner join the show with recommendations that you don't want to miss.

As always, the October MOTM is horror themed, but for a time, the horror was our communities indecision. Twice films tied for the selection, executive action resolved the dilemma and "Re-Animator" from 1985 is our film this week. A horror film filled with gore and comedy seems like a perfect choice, but a couple of the guests were less than enthusiastic, and it may surprise you as to who. If your favorite band of the 1980s is Talking Heads, you are going to love this movie. It may be classified as a zombie film, but it is closer to the mad scientist trope of horror, in spite of the large number of living dead. Bruce Abbot, Jeffrey Combs and Barbara Crampton star in the film, but David Gale may be the antenna topper that makes it memorable. 

The new film from Paul Thomas Anderson does not get universal praise from our LAMB flock this week. One person sees brilliance, one sees a shining star in comparison to everything else this year, and one sees a film that they hated. Your opinions about the film may be challenged by any one of these perspectives, but you will only discover how if you come in and listen (or for you Illustrated Podcast viewers, watch). Howard Casner, Rishabh Vashishtha join the flock this week to discuss "One Battle After Another".  So "Masterpiece" or "Disasterpiece", you should find out here. 

This week, you get extra because you have been so good (and also because the guests can't wait for Halloween to talk about horror.  There is the final entry in a very solid horror franchise, a Stephen King Dystopia story that is basically a two hour walk and talk, and an original film presented under the banner of Jordan Peele, but one that he did not write or direct.  Lisa Leaheey and Damien Riley join Richard this week to take on a slew of late summer scares and thrills. There was unanimity on all three films, come listen and find out which one was awful, which one was awfully good, and which one meets expectations but does not exceed them. 

The legacy sequel to thew 1984 classic is out this week. It may not be doing well at the box office, but it's a fine line between entertaining and profitable. Howard Casner and Damien Riley join the show this week to see if this one goes to eleven. We get some sidetrack discussion on movie theater attendance and spend some time assessing the likelihood of a mediocre band appearing at Wimbledon.  So get ready to improvise your own thoughts and see if you agree with our LAMBs this week. 

The MOTM has been a long tradition on the Lambcast, well before I came along and took the reins. We are starting some innovations on the practice and they commence this week. The MOTM will now be focused on a different genre or theme each month. My hope is that it will make it easier for people with films they want to talk about to remember to submit their choices. I will also submit a number of options so that the community will have a minimum number of movies to vote for. This new process has just started, and Biopics were the genre for September. This week's episode is the first product of the changes, the winner by just a couple of votes, so this month we are going to “Walk the Line”. Howard Casner, who has never been to Reno, Matthew Simpson, who is not named Sue and Tony Cogan, who is as far from Folsom Prison as you can get, join us for this show. 

The "Wayback Machine" is set for a short trip on this week's episode of the Lambcast, we are traveling back just a few years to talk about films from 2012. In the Cinema World, We finished off the Twilight Movies, and Started the Hobbit Slog Through Middle Earth. James Bond celebrated 50 years on the big screen, The Dark Knight Started with a truly Dark Day, The Avengers finally came together, as the Hunger Games Began and Universal Pictures celebrated a 100 year anniversary, Howard Casner, Dave Anderson, and The Vern tighten their seatbelts for this time traveling show and they bring you several films that they thought ought to be remembered. 

Whatever happened to teen sex comedies?  We immerse ourselves in one of a wave of such films that emerged in the late 90s and early 2000s but seem to have disappeared off the big screen these days (ok, there are occasional exceptions but not many). Bubbawheat nominated EuroTrip as MOTM and he hosts the discussion as well as using a number of quotes from the film. Todd Liebenow,and David Brook are along for the train ride, hitchhiking and air delivery trip we take through this 2004 film starring the late Michelle Trachtenberg and some guest stars who just happened to be in Prague when the film was shooting. Come have a listen. 

Writer/Director Zach Cregger follows up his successful debut feature, “Barbarian” with another out of the box Horror film, "Weapons”. We will dance around a lot of subjects before the spoiler wall comes down, but the best way to experience a movie like this is on your own, without too much foreknowledge. That said, we are still going to talk about it. Lisa Leaheey, Howard Casner and Nicole Ayers join in a long conversation about a half dozen characters, before we get to the spoiler wall. How can you resist, I have my bowl of water working. 

It seems that comedy is back on the big screen, with the surprisingly effective reboot of the slapstick format of the original films. "The Naked Gun" stars Liam Neeson in the deadpan role of Lt. Frank Drebin of Police Squad. Howard Casner from "Pop Art" tries to explain how the editing of the film is different, Matthew Simpson from the "Awesome Friday Podcast" felt warm and happy seeing the film repeat the style of his beloved ZAZ team, and Courtney Small returns to the Lambcast after a long hiatus, to praise the laughter and casting of the film. 

We don't have the Fantastic Four visiting the show this week, you have to make due with the "Terrific Trio". Jeanette Ward and Matthew Poirier join the show to dissect and appreciate the latest in Super Hero movies, "Fantastic Four First Steps". There is enough enthusiasm for the retro future world that the story is set, to justify a visit all on it's own. The addition of good casting, fun dialogue and an antagonist who can eat planets, makes it an easy decision to not only watch the film but to listen to the podcast. "It's Clobbering Time", so put on your stretchy suit and maternity dress and "Flame On!" for a 77 minute trip to the alternate Universe of the 1960s. 

We have your comic book movie fix this week with an episode featuring the Man of Steel, and we don't mean Henry Cavill. Writer/Director James Gunn has been given the keys to the DCEU kingdom and he tales his first film out for a test drive. Will there be buyers remorse from the studio, backlash from comic book purists, box off in overseas territories? It is hard to say at this point, but what we can say is what four LAMBs thought of the film. Jeanette Ward, James Wilson and Todd Liebenow have all applied to join the Justice Gang, and this will count as their admission essay. We don't get an origin story again, but as everone on the show agrees, we get a lot of movie. 

Who doesn't like dinosaurs chasing and killing people on screen? This week we have four guests who are all for such antics. The biggest Jurassic Park cheerleader in the LAMB community, Jay Cluitt, returns with his thoughts on the newest film in the Jurassic Park Franchise, and also a surprise revelation or two. Jeanette Ward has a soft spot for dinosaurs and is happy to see giant reptile necking depicted on screen. Horror fan Lisa Leaheey makes an argument that this is not a horror film, LeClerc would probably disagree. Nicole Ayers has some thoughts on the third act, that amplify the thoughts of everyone on the show. Oh, yeah. Oooh, ahhh, that's how it always starts. Then later there's running and screaming.

 50 years ago this month, "Jaws" was unleashed on the world and the film industry has never been the same. It can also be said that film fans have never been the same either and this week on the LAMBcast, we discover why. We had ten LAMBs who were scheduled at one point, and we lost one along the way, probably because he was playing with Pipit. There were several prompts that the guests responded to or used to transition to a variety of adjacent subjects; cars, Fathom Events, British Tax Policies etc. If the show sometimes sounds like an extended promo for the "Deep Blue Sea Podcast" there is a reason for that as well. Aaron Neuwirth is back on the show, insisting on calling things horror films, Nicole Ayers both loves and hates Mayor Vaughn. Howard Casner declares he might have seen the film three or four times (and gets ribbed by the host and others for such extravagance). Dave Anderson has Jaws stories about his childhood and the childhood of his kids. Jay Cluitt does some cross promotion and disappoints everyone by having most recently watched the film on his phone. Finally, Amanda Kirkham gets pulled into the ocean to talk about the film that has been her favorite since she was four years old.

A thirteen year old film, that has been derisively described as poverty porn, is our chosen film this month. Featuring an excellent supporting performance from Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson and a cameo role by Anthony Mackie, "The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete is actually carried on the shoulders of two young actors who are on screen for nearly every scene in the story. Nicole Ayers of the "Mad Lab Post" championed the film and hosted the show. We lost one of our regular guests to illness but a super hero appeared at the last minute to join us and Howard Casner of "Pop Art" adds his insight to the discussion.  

Even if you think he is crazy, Tom Cruise is legitimately a movie star. Cruise in fact may be the last movie star who can open a film on his name alone. This week, Aaron Neuwirth, Stuart Bannerman, Justin Gott and Jeanette Ward join the show to try and build the best slate of Tom Cruise Films Possible. The talk goes deep and we have some fun occasionally laughing at each others choices, but really, there are not any bad choices (Except the Mummy). You will find a lot of films get a lot of analysis as well as a lot of fun. Come join us.

Howard Casner has been watching the Criterion Channel, Todd Liebenow found some movies based on TV Shows you might not know, Dave Anderson has a choo choo fetish this week, and Nicole Ayers did the unthinkable, she stopped watching five different movies and tells us why.  Richard pulls off the slickest trick of attributing Star Wars to the wrong Director and no one calls him on it. Abracadabra. 

Just over a month ago, we promised we would come back for the new entry in the "Final Destination" Franchise. So here we are fulfilling our commitment with ninety minutes devoted to discussing gruesome means of dying and re-ranking the whole set of films. Jay Cluitt steps in as host, returning to the show in his former capacity. Lisa Leaheey, Aaron Neuwirth, and Matthew Simpson are also here. Richard was out this week (although he does make a surprise appearance in a couple of spots) and Jay invited Justin Gott to fill the void. Does "Bloodlines" have what it takes to be a real destination event? Is Lisa ever going to get over that thing in the first film that bugs her so much? This week you won't find any deep film analysis, existential themes, or scathing social commentary (OK there is a Carter Joke and a Reagan Joke, but that's it). The Lambs assembled this week to mostly share what tickled them about this 1984 Comedy.  It sometimes sounds like the Chris Farley Show , "Remember that time the bookstore owner talked backwards?" "Yeah", "That was awesome". Jeanette Ward, tries to keep us all from sinking into repeating all the jokes from the film, and she succeeds in getting us to dig a little bit for some overlooked gems. You may not understand the movie better from listening to the show, but you will want to watch it again because Matt Simpson, James Wilson and Bubbawheat are enthusiastic about so much of the movie. Come listen to your friends talk about the film, like you are all in the seventh grade again. 

We are back after a couple of weeks away, and the MCU is back after a couple of months off. Actually, a lot of people think the MCU has been "off" since "Endgame", but is that true? Also, is this movie the solution to whatever is ailing the franchise? We do a deep dive this week into the comic book origins, alternative character arcs and generally everything Marvel related. What "Jaws" did for swimming in the ocean, the Final Destination Series tries to do to airplane flight, highway travel, amusement park rides, sporting events and bus travel. You will likely feel uncomfortable with some of the grim images generated by the film makers of this series. That's exactly why we watch them, we are lookey loos at the accident scene, without the guilt of someone actually dying.
