The 2025 Predator: Badlands movie takes the Predator and Yautja mythology into a new, unforeseen realm. Dek, who's ridiculed, persecuted, and then banished from his family, winds up on a strange planet where he befriends a synthetic organism played by Elle Fanning, known as Thia. She has a punk look with a new wave, futuristic charm. Thia and Dek team up to battle monsters and the greedy, evil Weyland-Yutani Corporation, with Elle playing a second synthetic organism known as Tessa. Susie Glass, makeup designer on Badlands, talks about the concepts behind the characters, early mornings on set, the importance of teamwork, and why caring for the actors is of the utmost importance.-Susie Glass is a New Zealand-born hair and makeup designer based in Auckland who's become known for her versatility and leadership with a portfolio that includes feature films, streaming series, and high-end television. This week on End Credits we're heading back to space! Leaving the bounds of Earth behind, we go to the stars looking for old friends and familiar faces. First, we will stop by Pandora, setting for James Cameron's very successful sci-fi series Avatar, and then we will head to Genna where the wildest game in the galaxy is waiting for a hunter in Predator: Badlands. This Wednesday, November 12, at 3 pm, Adam A. Donaldson and Peter Salmon will discuss: Back to Pandora: Avatar Revisited. In a few weeks, Avatar: Fire and Ash will be released in theatres everywhere, and unless something really weird happens, it will easily skate to more than a billion dollars at the box office. But Avatar is a rare feat in more ways that one, a massively successful, original, sci-fi franchise that has no broader cultural footprint. So to try and understand the phenomenon we will revisit Avatar and Avatar: The Way of Water. REVIEW: Predator: Badlands (2025). In space, no franchise is ever really over and guess who's back again? Predator: Badlands is the eighth film in the series (if you count the Alien Vs Predator films), and the second one from Dan Trachtenberg, director of 2022's Prey, but it's the first to feature a Predator, or Yautja as they're technically known, as the lead heroic character. On the deadliest planet in the universe our Predator hero will test his mantle with an android sidekick played by Elle Fanning, but is Badlands a movie worth turning into a trophy? End Credits is on CFRU 93.3 fm and cfru.ca Wednesday at 3 pm.
¡Se vino otro programón cargado de cine, nostalgia y explosiones (literalmente)!

He must claim a coveted trophy during a ritual hunt and attempt to gain the respect of his clan, despite having been exiled due to his perceived frailty and dubbed a "runt" by his father. In a new Forgotten Cinema: Now Showing, the Mikes head out into "Predator: Badlands", the newest entry in the Yautja franchise. Both Mike Butler and Mike Field had a fun time with this one; the action works, the world is engaging, and making a Yautja the protagonist is a bold swing that mostly pays off. Elle Fanning delivers strong performances as both Thia and Tessa, grounding the story even when the movie leans heavily into its video-game vibe. But that's also where the film hits its ceiling. As Butler points out, Badlands often feels like a really well-made video game you'd rather be playing than watching. It's fun, fast, and entertaining in the moment…but pretty forgettable once you leave the theater. And as much as we appreciate the franchise trying new things, the Mikes can't help but wonder if it's finally time to bring back the classic Predator design in full glory.Another solid entry, but not one that will stay in your head—or spine—too long.
Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi leads the charge in Predator: Badlands, the record-breaking new chapter of the iconic sci-fi saga. On this episode of The Moviegoers Society, Sean Tajipour, the Mayor of Nerdtropolis, and Drew Munhausen break down Dan Trachtenberg's fierce and emotional evolution of the Predator franchise — from its box office domination to its powerful new perspective that humanizes the Yautja. They discuss the film's subtle connection to the Alien universe, Elle Fanning's layered performance, and how Badlands blends heart, horror, and high-stakes action into one unforgettable cinematic hunt.

Director Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane, Prey) returns to the Universe of the the Predator with an interesting new take.....what if we embarked on a hunting adventure with the Predator itself as the main protagonist? Actually the Predators are officially know as "Yautja" species and this particular Yautja is the runt of his clan named Dek played by Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatan. After some unexpected family turmoil on his home planet, he is inadvertently whisked away to a very dangerous planet named Genna where he has decided to embark on his first hunt for a very rare creature. Along the way, he aligns with a synthetic human named Thia (Elle Fanning) whom is more of an expert on this paritcular creature. And much creature-on-creature violence ensues....though rated PG-13?Host: Geoff GershonEdited By Ella GershonProducer: Marlene Gershon Send us a textSupport the showhttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

This week we explore the exotic world of Genna, the Australia of the galaxy. Everything here wants to kill you, including a young Yautja, seeking to prove himself to his clan. A tight action film with a science fiction background and based on a long standing IP, it will work, right? Surprise! It does. Aaron Neuwirth and Jeannette Ward are long time "Predator" fans and they will vouch for this film this week,. We get a Predator as the antagonist, a connection to a different Sci-Fi franchise, and some clever storytelling. Plus there are the usual trails that lead to unexpected destinations with the LAMBs, James Bond for instance. How can you resist?

Welcome back to The Lobby Bar! This week, we're flipping the script on two iconic action franchises and our featured cocktail!First, we talk about the sci-fi behemoth that just hit theaters, Predator: Badlands! Director Dan Trachtenberg once again reinvents the franchise, this time by making a young Predator outcast named Dek the hero. We discuss the epic, bloody hunt on a hostile alien world, his unexpected alliance with a Weyland-Yutani synthetic, and whether this Badlands story is a fresh direction for the Yautja mythology. Then, the running starts! We gear up for the highly anticipated Edgar Wright-directed remake of Stephen King's dystopian thriller, The Running Man (2025), starring Glen Powell as Ben Richards. With its release just days away, we look at the hype, the star-studded cast (Josh Brolin, Michael Cera, Colman Domingo), and how this new version is a more faithful adaptation of the dark, savage novel.Of course, no show is complete without a drink! We're mixing up a Reverse Martini (sometimes called an Upside-Down Martini). This sophisticated, lower-proof cocktail flips the classic ratio, making Dry Vermouth the star and the Gin the modifier. It's the perfect, contemplative sipper for a week of cinematic chaos! All that, plus a look at the latest Box Office News!Merch ShopPatreonInstagramBlueskyFacebookhttps://www.drinkthemovies.comYouTubeDiscord*Please Drink Responsibly*

Blimey, this week's episode of the Empire Podcast is star-studded, and then some. First, Chris Hewitt chats with Die, My Love star, Jennifer Lawrence, and director Lynne Ramsay, about unpredictability on set and receiving an email from Martin Scorsese; then, he has a crash course in Yautja from Predator: Badlands stars Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi and Elle Fanning; and then Alex Godfrey pops up to have a lovely natter with the stars of new drama, Anemone, Sean Bean and Daniel Day-Lewis, returning to acting after a long hiatus. Then, Chris is joined in the podbooth by Alex, James Dyer and, dialling in (hence the odd glitch here and there), Helen O'Hara to discuss just how much they want to see a Steven Soderbergh-directed Star Wars movie, which Ghostface they could take in a fight, the week's movie news (including resurrections for The Mummy, Gremlins, and Miss Piggy), and their thoughts on Predator: Badlands, The Choral, Anemone, and Die, My Love. Enjoy!

To quote Donato's Predator: Badlands review: "It's official: Dan Trachtenberg is the Yautja whisperer." Between Monagle's love of the Alien universe and Donato's incessant quoting of Predator, the Matts dedicated this week's Uncertified episode to gushing about Trachtenberg's latest Yautja adventure. Does the heavy use of digital animation hold up? Can the inclusion of Weyland-Yutani stay in the background enough not to dominate a Predator film? All those questions and more are answered by the Matts, who once again find common ground on a new release.
Dan Trachtenberg's next Predator adventure - Predator: Badlands - is now out in theaters! This is already his THIRD entry into the franchise - one more and he'll match the amount of standalone Predator movies there were before he arrived. I wouldn't call myself a fan of this franchise, but I love the idea of the Yautja as these intergalactic hunters in a clan where they're either the Predator or the Prey. It's just unfortunate that all these movies, including the few I like, are basically the same. I've liked both Prey and Predator: Killer of Killers but I wouldn't say I've been as crazy about them as others; I think it's fair to say I'm pretty burnt out on the formula of this franchise. I can't even say I'm IN LOVE with the original or anything like that. But now, we finally have a movie where one of the Yautja is actually the protagonist with Badlands. Does it deliver on the premise and live up to the very positive reviews? Find out in this review!Predator: BadlandsDirected by: Dan TrachtenbergScreenplay by: Patrick AisonBased on characters created by: Jim Thomas & John ThomasStory by: Patrick Aison, Dan TrachtenbergProduced by: John Davis, Brent O'Connor, Ben Rosenblatt, Marc ToberoffExecutive Producers: Lawrence Gordon, Stefan GrubeMusic by: Sarah Schachner, Benjamin WallfischDirector of Photogaphy: Jeff CutterEdited by: Stefan Grube, David TrachtenbergCasting by: Jessica ShermanProduction Design by: Ra VincentCostume Design by: Ngila DicksonCast: Elle Fanning, Dimitrius Schuster-KoloamatangiSynopsis: Cast out from his clan, a young Predator finds an unlikely ally in a damaged android and embarks on a treacherous journey in search of the ultimate adversary.
What happens when the Predator stops stalking humans and becomes the hunted? The beady-eyed little freak of the Yautja clan stars in Predator: Badlands. Jim and A.Ron dig into its switch from pure slaughter-fest to surprisingly emotional, salute the Yautja lore upgrade, and gush over the creative fights and detachable-leg theatrics.
