Join The Middle-Aged Outlaws in 1998 as we navigate WWF, WCW and ECW through the year, January-December
The Outlaws are in a very smarky Toronto for the centrepiece of the summer! Join us in August 2004 as we really struggle to enjoy what is traditionally a fun WWE PPV. Having slogged through the first half, we eventually enjoy Kurt Angle taking on Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit defending his Heavyweight title against a young and cocky Randy Orton. In amongst the rest is Undertaker v JBL, Triple H v Eugene(!) a 'Til Death Do Us Part' match between Matt Hardy and Kane plus The Dudleys taking on Paul London, Billy Kidman and Rey Mysterio. All that plus the WWE Divas Dodgeball challenge! Follow the Outlaws on instagram at https://www.instagram.com/outlawspod/
The Outlaws are back in the Ruthless Aggression Era on the road to Wrestlemania. Join us as we enjoy what is quite possibly one of the greatest modern wrestling matches ever between Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit. Unfortunately the same can't be said for Triple H and the Big Bad Booty Daddy, Scott Steiner who put on 18 minutes of questionable entertainment. Meanwhile the battle for Al Wilson continues as Torie Wilson and the recently widowed Dawn Marie square off. The Royal Rumble match itself is stacked with talent and really shows the quality of the in-ring performers on the Smackdown side of things. We get some very interesting video packages on Sean O'Haire and Nathan Jones, plus much, much more. Follow the Outlaws on instagram at https://www.instagram.com/outlawspod/
The Outlaws are at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City for a very extreme family reunion. Join us in June 2005 as we enjoy as close to an ECW show as WWE could ever present before they threw it all away with the WWECW nonsense. We enjoy some early technical matches between Lance Storm and Chris Jericho, Rey and Psicosis and a Triple Threat elimination match between Tajiri, Super Crazy and Little Guido. The extreme shenanigans are of course on show with Sabu, Rhyno, RVD, Tommy Dreamer, The Dudleys and a whole cast of ECW regulars showing up. All that plus Heyman roasting the Smackdown and Raw rosters, plus much, much more. Follow the Outlaws on instagram at https://www.instagram.com/outlawspod/
The Outlaws are back in the Garden in New York City for the debut of the most electrifying man in sports entertainment! Join us in November 1996 as we're back gushing over Bret Hart again, this time he's taking on a white hot tweener version of Stone Cold Steve Austin. We also really enjoy Psycho Sid who has the backing of the home crowd taking on WWF champion Shawn Michaels. Elsewhere, Mankind and Undertaker go to battle over a caged Paul Bearer, a certain Rocky Maivia makes his debut in a classic Survivor Series elimination match and Heel JR lashes out at everyone on commentary! All that plus much, much more. Follow the Outlaws on instagram at https://www.instagram.com/outlawspod/
The Outlaws are in the brand new United Center in Chicago for the bash of the Summer! Join us in August 1994 as we gush over Bret and Owen Hart and their 9 month epic storyline of sibling rivalry, culminating in the classic blue steel cage. We enjoy Razor Ramon with hometown hero Water Peyton in his corner taking on Diesel with Shawn Michaels in his corner for the Interncontinental Championship. Elsewhere, Alundra Blaze and Bull Nakano have a really impressive match for the Womens WWF Championship and the Undertaker and his doppelganger face off in the main event. All that plus much, much more. Follow the Outlaws on instagram at https://www.instagram.com/outlawspod/
The Outlaws are in the Lone Star state for another NXT Takeover!! This has to be probably one of the best ever PPV's put on by the development brand in their short history and boasts one of the greatest ever pro wrestling matches put on in the US by the debuting Shinsuke Nakamura and Sami Zayn. An absolutely incredible match which needs to be seen to be believed. Elsewhere The Revival and American Alpha put on a tag team clinic, Bayley and Asuka have a great match for the womens NXT title and Samoa Joe and Finn Balor spill blood for the NXT Title. We also hear some controversial thoughts from the guys on the Oracle and her choices. All of that, plus much, much more. Follow the Outlaws on instagram at https://www.instagram.com/outlawspod/
The Outlaws are in the Staples Centre for the dawn of the Ruthless Aggression era! Brock Lesnar defends his newly won WWE Heavyweight Championship against The American Badass. RVD and Triple H go toe to toe for the big gold belt in a surprisingly impressive match. Elsewhere Edge and Eddie Guerrero continue to rise up the ranks as do Angle and Benoit. We're wildly unimpressed with the HLA/Bischoff/Steph angle going on throughout the PPV but love 3 Minute Warning's PPV debut! All of that, plus much, much more. Follow the Outlaws on instagram at https://www.instagram.com/outlawspod/
Fantasy warfare just got real!! Apparently?! It's red versus blue as Stephanie McMahon's Raw take on Shane McMahon's Smackdown in a bunch of classic Survivor Series matches. We discuss all the fun of the cringeworthy manufactured brand warfare, plus Brock v Goldberg in an interesting main event! Follow the Outlaws on instagram at https://www.instagram.com/outlawspod/
The Outlaws are in the panhandle of Florida according to a certain billionaire. We watch on as Vincent Kennedy McMahon gloats his way through 90 minutes of the final ever episode of WCW Nitro. It was considered at the time a shocking conclusion but as time has passed we reflect on just how much more World Championship Wrestling deserved. Booker T takes on Scott Steiner for the US and World Championship belts, Flair and Sting go one last time and Vince and Trish toast to something really, really questionable. Follow the Outlaws on instagram at https://www.instagram.com/outlawspod/
It's Judgement Day for the Middle Aged Outlaws It's the year 2000 and we're being treated to an hour of Triple H and The Rock as they go head to head in an Ironman Match ! That plus everything the crazy 2000's served up for us including The McMahon-Helmsley Era, Mamacita, Stinkfaces and Bubba Ray Dudley getting wood. Follow the Outlaws on instagram at https://www.instagram.com/outlawspod/
The Outlaws are back in the Attitude Era! It's 1998 and we're reviewing an another tournament for the vacant WWF Heavyweight Title as the roster compete in the Deadly Game! Follow the Outlaws on instagram at https://www.instagram.com/outlawspod/
Welcome to the New World Organisation of wrestling brother!! The Outlaws are taking a trip to 1996 to witness one of the most significant nights in modern wrestling as The Outsiders and a mystery partner take on Macho Man Randy Savage, Lex Luger and Sting. By now we all know who that third man would be so we discuss how it all played out in real time, including just how impressive Hulk Hogan's promo with Mean Gene is. On the undercard we get a fantastic opener between Rey Mysterio Jr. and Psychosis, apart from that it's a little bit of rough sailing. Big Bubba and John Tenta battle in a Carson City Silver Dollar on a Pole match(!), DDP takes on Jim Duggan, The Four Horseman battle the Dungeon of Doom, plus much, much more. Follow the Outlaws on instagram at https://www.instagram.com/outlawspod/
The Outlaws are in the heartland of America to watch Bret Hart be crowned a king! We sit back and take a trip to our childhood to enjoy the first ever televised King of the Ring. Join us as Bret the Hitman Hart puts on an absolute clinic in 3 incredible matches, Hogan takes on Yokozuna in a rematch of their impromptu Wrestlemania IX encounter, Shawn Michaels puts up his Intercontinental title against Crush plus much much more. The Outlaws are in Primetime! It's Vince McMahon's first real stab at mainstream acceptance as he takes to Friday night primetime TV to showcase his brand of sports entertainment. Join us as we manage to somehow discuss a 49 minute show for nearly 2 hours. The wrestling isn't really the draw with this show but instead it's the storylines both in and out of the ring. We discuss Vince's lifelong obsession with acceptance beyond the wrestling business, his journey to find the next Andre the Giant and the WWF's conundrum with replacing Hulk Hogan whilst he chases success in Hollywood. We discuss what is possibly one of the greatest angles ever used in WWF/WWE as Dave and Earl Hebner combine to screw over the Hulkster in his quest to defeat Andre The Giant yet again. All that, plus Adam expertly breaks down the fallout afterwards through the tournament at Wrestlemania IV. Follow the Outlaws on instagram at https://www.instagram.com/outlawspod/
The Outlaws are visiting the Glory Days in Maryland, Baltimore! It's the first ever Great American Bash under the WCW banner and it's considered to be one of their all time great PPV's. Join us as we enjoy seeing the likes of Lex Luger, Sting, Bryan Pillman, Scott Hall and The Steiner Brothers in their youth. We also surprisingly enjoy Jim Cornette and Paul E Dangerously in a tuxedo match! A first for the Outlaws! Whilst headlined by a brutal matchup between Ric Flair and Terry Funk for the NWA World Title, we're also treated to a chaotic Wargames match featuring the Fabolous Freebirds, the Midnight Express, the Samoan SWAT Team, The Road WArriors and Dr Death Steve Williams. All that and a Komodo Dragon wearing a leather jacket! Follow the Outlaws on instagram at https://www.instagram.com/outlawspod/
The Outlaws are heeling it up in Canada with the Hart Foundation! Join us as we chat through the last ever B-show In Your House event which runs at a paltry 1 hour 48 minutes! With only 4 matches on the card, it is non-stop excitement. The Canadian crowd are amped up as they let loose and show off those "shades of grey" that Vince McMahon talks about where the bad guys are beloved and the good guys are booed. Thankfully one of those good guys is Steve Austin who is loving life as public enemy number 1 in Calgary. We discuss Triple H and Mankind's long running history, the excellent match between The Great Satsuke and Taka Michinoku, Vader vs Taker and the dodged bullet that is Ahmed Johnson getting a title shot. The main event see's the homecoming of the Hart Foundation to take on a team made up of Stone Cold Steve Austin, the Legion of Doom, Goldust and Ken Shamrock. It's an incredible show that has to be seen to be believed. Follow the Outlaws on instagram at https://www.instagram.com/outlawspod/
It's the end of the Attitude Era!! The Outlaws are visiting February 2001, one month out from what is arguably the greatest Wrestlemania of all time. We're here for one thing and one thing only: 3 Stages of Hell! Stone Cold Steve Austin and Triple H put to bed their long simmering rivalry which began at Summerslam 1999 through a wrestling match, a street fight and a steel cage match. It's a fun one. Unfortunately the same can't be said for the rest of this card as the Hardcore, Intercontinental and Tag titles are all the line. Follow the Outlaws on instagram at https://www.instagram.com/outlawspod/
The Outlaws are getting the 'F' out! We're in brand extension era as the superstars of Raw and Smackdown come together for Summerslam 2002! This is arguably one of the greatest PPV's of all time! The Rock and the Next Big Thing, Brock Lesnar, do battle for the Undisputed Championship in the main event. Triple H and Shawn Michaels settle their blood feud with an unbelievable non-sanctioned match which the Outlaws couldn't stop raving about!! Elsewhere we discuss the Unamericans' lazy gimmick, The Undertaker's employment history, Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero's technical proficiency and Edge's "meh"ness as a face. All that, plus much, much more. Follow the Outlaws on instagram at https://www.instagram.com/outlawspod/
The Outlaws are at Wembley Stadium in London, England for the biggest Summerslam in WWF history!! We go back to our childhoods to relive the biggest UK PPV ever, as the biggest stars in wrestling make their way across the pond. WWF Champion Macho Man Randy Savage defends his title against a horrifyingly dressed Ultimate Warrior as Ric Flair and Mr Perfect concoct a dastardly plan on the outside of the ring. Tag champs The Natural Disasters take on the Beverly Brothers and the Ugandan Giant Kamala attempts to take out our favourite dead mortician. The main event takes precedence for much of our conversation as The British Bulldog Davey Boy Smith attempts to wrestle away the Intercontinental Title from his brother-in-law Bret the Hitman Hart in what we think is one of the greatest wrestling matches of all time. We touch on the absolute genius of Bret Hart, some of the background to the match including the Bulldog's interesting match preparation involving his training partner Jim The Anvil Neidhart. All of this, plus much, much more. Follow the Outlaws on instagram at https://www.instagram.com/outlawspod/
The Outlaws have made their triumphant return to podcasting! Fresh off a break since November, the boys have taken a turn off the 1998 Highway and decided to concentrate on enjoying watching wrestling for a while. Consistently watching WCW can do that to you! Join them as they discuss the 2004 WWE-produced documentary The Rise and Fall of ECW. They discuss Heyman's business sense, Bischoff's general smugness and the massively talented rosters of stars who emerged from the Philadelphia based outfit including Rob Van Dam, the Dudley Boys, Sabu, Taz, Tommy Dreamer and many more. "By God they've killed him!!" It's June 1998 in the world of professional wrestling!! The Outlaws talk their likes and dislikes from WCW's Great American Bash '98 where, in the main event, Sting takes on The Giant for control of the WCW World Tag Team Titles. That's right, a singles match for the tag belts. Ahhhh, WCW in 1998. Elsewhere the NWO groups continue to dominate proceedings with Hollywood Hulk Hogan and Bret Hart taking on Macho Man Randy Savage and Roddy Piper for....reasons. Booker T and Chris Benoit put on a clinic in what is the 8th match in their best of 7 series(!), Jericho and Malenko go at it again and Goldberg looks to hit 100-0 against Konnan. Over at WWF's King of the Ring '98 Mick Foley and The Undertaker go down in history in their iconic Hell in a Cell match. Austin and Kane battle for the title in a First Blood Match. The Rock and Shamrock fight to be crowned this years King of the Ring and we finally see X-Pac's PPV debut since his return from WCW as he battles Owen Hart. Follow the Outlaws on instagram at https://www.instagram.com/outlawspod/
The Outlaws are taking on both WCW and WWF's showings for May of 1998. At WCW Slamboree we take in a dream match between Bret The Hitman Hart and Macho Man Randy Savage. The NWO continues to implode with the Hollywood and Wolfpac factions taking shape as we see The Giant and Sting take on the Outsiders for the WCW tag team championship. Elsewhere Jericho continues his quest to steal the show in the Cruiserweight Division and Goldberg looks to go 88-0 against Perry Saturn. At WWF's Over the Edge we completely mark out over Stone Cold Steve Austin and Dude Love's world title rematch as Vince stacks the deck against the Texas rattlesnake. We question why Bradshaw is a farm animal, why we're still being sold LOD 2000, why is Sable v Marc Mero a thing and much, much more. Follow the Outlaws on instagram at https://www.instagram.com/outlawspod/
The Outlaws are back and they're EXTREEEEEEME again!!! It's ECW's second PPV of 1998, down in the home of the Big Boss Man - Cobb County, Georgia. We're disappointed by the overbooking going on here as Paul E seems to be trying his hardest to get The Franchise Shane Douglas even more over than he already is. We get a fun tag team match as the champions Chris Candido and Lance Storm take on Balls Mahoney and Axl Rotten. Tracy Smothers is back in action with the FBI against the BWO, Mikey Whipwreck looks to take revenge against Justin Credible, Sabu and RVD go 30 minutes for the TV title and New Jack bleeds like a stuck pig for Bam Bam! The Outlaws are in high altitude in Denver, Colorado for WCW Spring Stampede! After the highs of reviewing AEW All Out last episode, the Outlaws reach the middest of mids (thanks MJF) as the quality of WCW's output continue to fly downhill at breakneck speed! As the issues in the NWO escalate, we get our first ever 'bat on a pole' match as Hollywood Hulk Hogan and Kevin Nash take on the WCW Commissioner Rowdy Roddy Piper and The Giant. Mr Madness himself Macho Man Randy Savage takes on Sting for the WCW Heavyweight Title as he looks to take control of the NWO for good. Raven and DDP battle it out for what feels like the 100th time for the US Title. Booker T continues his string of impressive matches as he looks to retain his TV title against Chris Benoit and Goldberg looks to continue his impressive 73-0 win streak. We discuss the waste of time that was Scott Steiner's heel turn, try to work out if everything is OK with Brutus 'the Disciple' Beefcake as he continues his run as Hogan's chief lackey, plus much, much more. This is our first current PPV in quite some time and - spoiler alert - we absolutely loved it!! Amazing debuts, incredible in-ring performances, logical storyline progression and putting over young, impressive talent. Who knew professional wrestling could be this fun? The Outlaws have reached the end of March with WCW and their card to rival the mighty Wrestlemania 14. On paper it looks to be one of the greatest PPV events of all time. In execution? Not so much. As WWF hit new heights with Tyson and Austin, WCW go back to the well with an age-old rematch as the Mega Powers collide once more. Hollywood Hulk Hogan and "Slim Jim Spokesperson" Macho Man Randy Savage clash in a steel cage for the leadership of the NWO. Elsewhere Sting defends his WCW Heavyweight title against Scott Hall. Curt Hennig and Bret Hart meet again following world class matches at Summerslam '91 and King of the Ring '93. The Giant and Kevin Nash resume their powerbomb-themed rivalry, whilst Chris Jericho and Booker T aim to continue their run of title wins in their respective weight classes. We also discuss Scott Steiner's new run as a heel as he faces off against Lex Luger and DDP aims to defend his belt against both Benoit and Raven in a Triple Jeopardy, Falls Count Anywhere match. In what is arguably one of the most important and pivotal events in professional wrestling history, the Outlaws take a look at some of the key players on the WWF's roster and discuss their journey to this pivotal show, with an eye on what's next. We take a look at the Rock, his character development and what it all means for the Nation of Domination, the reformation of DX led by HHH, an off-the-leash shoot promo from new member X-Pac, Owen Hart's future in an attitude era that he doesn't seem to fit in with, Kane and the Undertakers ongoing feud and of course the crowning of a new champion in Stone Cold Steve Austin. We marvel at Rob Van Dam v 2 Cold Scorpio, question if The Sandman should really be attempting hurricanrana's, discuss the Franchise player Shane Douglas and how much he influenced Triple H's 'The Game' character and wonder why we never got this version of Taz in WWF. Elsewhere on this card, the Dudley Boys take on the teams of Balls Mahoney/Axl Rotten and New Jack/Spike Dudley in a 3 way tag dance and Justin Credible takes on Tommy Dreamer as we almost witness a once-in-a-lifetime Nicole Bass wardrobe malfunction.
