They took phone calls, answered emails, and responded to live chat room questions on topics in the news including highlights from WWE's quarterly earnings report, the end of the Survivor Series brand name PPV, potential replacements, how to incorporate old-school WCW PPV names if at all, whether a King of the Ring PPV can draw, context of the concept PPVs increasing in buy rates, Vince Russo's latest interview and quotes, TNA Impact tonight, and more. In the previously VIP-exclusive Aftershow, they talk about WWE TV Network and Mick Foley's latest "lowering of the bar" interview. Then on the Feb. 12, 2010 episode, PWTorch columnist Bruce Mitchell joined Wade to take caller and email questions on topics in the news including the imminent announcement that TNA Impact is going live on Mondays starting in several weeks, plus they take live calls and email questions on a variety of subjects including WWE NXT, TNA house show reports, Mick Foley criticism, the push of A.J. 94 ends with a whimper as Hulk Hogan takes on The Butcher in the main event of Starrcade! Randy Savage debuts, Avalache has his 1st WCW PPV match, kevin Sullivan takes on Mr. T. It's a rough time but NOT the worst Starrcade. Note: This episode was recorded BEFORE the death of Kevin Sullivan we shit all over him. Lol. Sorry. Also we discuss MJF-Britt Bakker!
Before The Hulkster invaded the republican convention he took on Ric Flair in a huge cage match! Plus we talk Honkey Tonk Man Dustin Rhodes and so much more! It's another great WCW PPV!
In episode 27 ACEFIELD RETRO returns with MIKE BELCASTER to discuss two hearty episodes. We take on the NOV 18th MONDAY NITRO & WORLD WAR 3. We are getting the culmination of a great build to a very unique WCW PPV. We finally get the debut of RODDY PIPER on NITRO but it is overshadowed by ERIC BISCHOFF turning his back on WCW and joining forces with the NEW WORLD ORDER. WORLD WAR 3 was a fun night of wrestling but how does the concept hold up? ULTIMO DRAGON has a stretch of two amazing matches on both the NITRO and WORLD WAR 3. WHO wins the 60-man battle royal? Is it better than the ROYAL RUMBLE? We talk about the impact of the PILLMAN/AUSTIN infamous gun wielding segment that happened on the other channel. What was the reception to this reality-based programming? Did WCW have an extreme response? MR. PERFECT is heading over to WCW but what does he have left to give in the ring physically? Will he have an impact on the product in a positive way? MACHO MAN is still unsigned and continues his conversations to come back with WWF. What could have been to have Randy Savage back in the Fed through 1997? As per usual, we do some diving into Dave Meltzer's newsletter as it happened in real-time to bring in CONTEXT and help us travel completely back to 1996 to get an idea of what this event meant to WCW's drive to overtake WWF in the MONDAY NIGHT WARS. What was the rating like? Is there more drama to unpack? As always, this episode is sure to be an amazing time with the main homie MIKE BELCASTER. Don't forget to grab your weekly Shot of Nostalgia at 7 PM Eastern to continue FLASHBACK FRIDAY ON THE TAVERN. As always, tip your bartenders & learn from the past! Being our usual disorganized selves, we forgot all about WCW PPV episodes for 10 months but this week Drunk Wrestling History is getting its shit together and reviewing Starrcade 1987. This show happened at a crucial time for Jim Crockett Promotions and they needed a major success and this show did not deliver at all. It suffered from sabotage by the WWF, bad booking, and doing it in the wrong city. Despite all that it had some really god matches so it's not a total loss as a viewer. Spooky season, begin! Ryan, Jeff, and guest Travis Lassiter (Wrestling Ruined, NXT Evolution) discuss what is widely regarded as one of the worst WCW PPV's of all-time. It's Halloween Havoc 2000!
It's been a while since the boys visited some good old fashioned WCW trash. This week, Dusty stumbled upon an article from sportster.com that listed Uncensored 1995 as WCW's worst PPV ever. Andrew sincerely doubted the accuracy of that distinction because Uncensored '95 featured neither the nWo nor Vince Russo's booking. Was the article correct? First (0:00-21:00), we talk about Andrew meeting Kool Moe Dee, the boys not caring about junior college, unfunny t-shirts, Clerks 3, and the new Top Gun! For your hosts this means answering an important question: was it truly a great show, or is it considered great in the context of the horror that would follow? This week on Drunk Wrestling History we are going way back to 1986 for a WCW PPV. Starrcade 86 took place in two different arenas and was full of good matches and also had it's share of bad matches. It should have been called Night Of The Gimmicks because there were more of those than there were Skywalkers but it was still a good show. Lets have a drink and check out some old school WCW. Cheers! On this week's episode of the Take It Home Podcast, John LaRocca once again goes back in time and reviews the WCW Spring Stampede 1994. This PPV is considered one of the very best WCW PPV's in the company's history. The main event was a continuation of a classic rivalry as WCW World Champion "Nature Boy" Ric Flair defends his title against Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat. John reviews all 8 matches on this PPV, shares the star ratings by Dave Meltzer and also talks about history of WCW leading up to this PPV. On this episode we review one of the best WCW PPV's in their history, Slamboree 1998! Next week will be our final WCW show for a while. So, why not end on a high note. New Blood Rising will be next week's show. We can't wait for this absolute circus! Photo: WWE
Ryan and Jeff welcome Travis Lassiter (Wrestling Ruined) back to the show to talk about the WCW PPV with a Ready To Rumble tie-in, Slamboree 2000!
This was better than '95 and '96, but what's that really saying? All in all, the history of WCW's Uncensored pay-per-views have been completely crap. This one was no different. However, the Marks (Troy & Greg) make this one friggin' fun, which is more than we can say about WCW's bookers. Eric Bischoff already took off for an extended vacation, Kevin Nash and Hulk Hogan were basically booking things, and the company was already circling the drain while WWF was riding high. On the card, Scott Steiner put his TV Title on the line against Booker T and Hollywood Hogan put the WCW Title on the line against Ric Flair (if Flair wins, he becomes President for life, but if he loses, he retires) in a Barbed Wire Steel Cage First Blood match. Yeah, it was a mess. On a positive note, we've got a boat load of news to bring you before we review the event! We are officially 2 decades removed from the final pay-per-view event under the World Championship Wrestling banner. Rookies squashed some legends, some legends really SHOWED THEIR ASSES, new champions were crowned, the opener was surprisingly awesome, and the main event was complete insanity! There is plenty to talk about on this one, from top to bottom! Also, in the news, the Marks (Troy & Greg) are talking about a teenager sentenced to life in prison after claiming to have killed his sister with a wrestling move, Time Warner trying to get rid of some lawsuits, the impending doom of the XFL 1.0, and some snags in Fusient Media's purchase of WCW. The Steel Cage Lounge brings you the epic rivalry between DDP and Macho Man that highlights Spring Stampede 1997. This is a WCW PPV that truly has the good (Mysterio v Ultimo Dragon), the bad (Kevin Nash v Rick Steiner in a singles match? for the tag titles), and the ugly (Lex Luger v Big Show v Harlem Heat? in a four corners match). Plus, can Tyback and the Doctor carry on through the show while STM suffers a bout of pharyngitis? Will Tyback be able to make it through another WCW PPV or will he tap out to the sleep apnea machine? And how does the Doctor really feel about Lex Luger. It's all here in the latest episode.
