Welcome back to The Lawcast! This time our hosts kick off a season covering the ill-fated Invasion storyline with Backlash 2001. We're in the shadow of Wrestlemania X-Seven so we're dealing with the aftermath of Steve Austin turning heel and joining up with Vince McMahon. Our main event tonight will have Austin teaming with his new tag team partner Triple H against The Undertaker and Kane in a match for the WWF Championship, the Intercontinental Championship, and the WWF Tag Team Championship. Plus we've got Kurt Angle vs. Chris Benoit in an Ultimate Submission Match and Shane McMahon vs. The Big Show in a Last Man Standing Match.Plus we discuss WWE buying AAA and whether New Japan could be next, the finals of the Owen Hart Cup being set, and Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff's new business venture.
After quickly giving some of their favorite Pixar picks, Graham "GSM" Matthews and RJ Marceau kick off their Raw review on WrestleRant Radio discussing Seth Rollins' new group rejecting Sami Zayn on Monday night, the report that they may not be adding new members and why Rollins vs. Bron Breakker at WrestleMania 42 isn't so far-fetched. Plus, they talk Rollins getting cheered by the crowd and if WWE has a heel problem (which includes John Cena, by the way). Is it the fault of the fans, the company or both? Plus, they get into their thoughts on Raw's stacked women's division and if Roxanne Perez and Giulia are officially a part of the main roster, Stephanie Vaquer's status, Liv Morgan taking time off to film a movie, Becky Lynch and Lyra Valkyria's great segment to set up their Backlash bout, Lynch likely winning the Women's Intercontinental Championship and why it isn't a bad idea, other confirmed matches for Backlash including Gunther vs. Pat McAfee and their defense of it, Logan Paul being Jey Uso's first World Heavyweight Championship challenger, who has the higher ceiling in their return run between Rusev and Aleister Black, and more!
In hopes that Dominic Mysterio defends his coveted, newly won title on May 10th in St. Louis, Matt Sookram joins Mike to count down the Top 7 Intercontinental Championship matches to happen at Backlash.
The episode kicks off with a buzzworthy revelation from The Rock, who appeared on Pat McAfee's show. He shared insights about TKO executive chairman Ari Emanuel's call for ticket sale assistance and teased ideas involving Cody Rhodes and John Cena. The hosts explore The Rock's vision of Cody selling his soul to the “final boss” and Cena's long-awaited heel turn. Cena reportedly loved the creative twist, wanting it to mirror his real-life experiences, but the hosts feel the story's execution fell flat. Shifting gears, the duo criticizes Travis Scott's involvement in the Cena storyline, stating it distracted from the wrestling narrative. They also discuss Paul Heyman's new Dangerous Alliance, featuring names like Seth Rollins and Bron Breakker, and brainstorm potential members, emphasizing the group's need for devious, powerhouse characters. The WrestleMania 41 recap takes center stage, spotlighting the women's triple threat match between Iyo Sky, Bianca Belair, and Rhea Ripley. The hosts laud the match's chemistry and high stakes, with Sky shining as a breakout star. They also praise Bianca Belair for turning a hostile crowd in her favor. While high points like Dominick Mysterio's Intercontinental Championship win earn applause, matches like Drew McIntyre vs. Damian Priest and Logan Paul vs. AJ Styles draw sharp critique. Lastly, the episode teases Rusev and Aleister Black's returns and offers thoughts on WWE's new reality series, “Unreal,” with skepticism about its appeal. #theFBCPod
