February 5th, 1988 is one of the most historic shows in the Golden Era of the WWF. This was the night Hulk Hogan was defending the WWF title against Andre The Giant. At the end of the match Hulk Hogan kicked out, but the ref counted to 3 anyway. There was chaos in the ring as we saw 2 of the same referees. THERE WERE 2 DAVE HEBNERS! “HOW MUCH DID THE PLASTIC SURGERY COST?” screamed Hulk Hogan! We wouldn't find out why there were 2 Dave Hebners, on that night, but we did know that Andre The Giant was the new WWF Champion. After winning, he immediately gave the belt to The Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase. Also, Macho Man Randy Savage defended his WWF Intercontinental Title against the Honky Tonk Man and a short match between The Hart Foundation and Strike Force gets cut off as the show ends. Recorded July 2021. The WWF in 1997 had some very, very good things, and some very, very bad things. Their July pay-per-view offering in Calgary, Alberta, Canada was one of the best events they produced that year. With a very dynamic and non-traditional babyface Hart Foundation in Canada vs. those American jerks of Stone Cold Steve Austin, Goldust, Ken Shamrock and the Legion of Doom, the roles would be reversed if you just crossed the border into the United States. Looking back, it may be one of the best angles in wrestling history. The Calgary Stampede is a staple event each year, so the World Wrestling Federation decided to piggyback off that and dive deep into the western Cowboy scene on this pay-per-view weekend. Nick and Vaughn discuss everything surrounding the event, where they were in life, and what they thought about each and every moment of this pay-per-view, and even the world of wrestling during this time period. -- Follow us on Twitter/X [@_piccone] [@VaughnMJohnson] [@ShootersRadio] You can subscribe to The Straight Shooters on the following platforms: [Apple Podcasts] [Spotify] [iHeartRadio] [Amazon] [Audacy] [TuneIn Radio] [Pandora] and wherever else you get your podcasts! shooterspod.com Exclusive Patreon content: [patreon.com/shootersradio] Facebook: [The Straight Shooters] --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/shootersradio/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/shootersradio/support
On this week's Grilling JR with The Voice Of Wrestling, Jim Ross & Conrad Thompson, the guys talk AEW Double Or Nothing, before getting into this week's main course, King Of The Ring '97! It was an interesting time in WWE. WCW was handily winning the ratings war week after week, Bret Hart and The Hart Foundation were the top heels in the company, and Bret and Shawn Michaels were certainly having their issues. The Undertaker was WWE Champion, Steve Austin's star was continuing to rise, and guys like Mankind, Goldust, and HHH were solidifying their characters and their spots for the upcoming Attitude Era. Plus, The Nation Of Domination, Ahmed Johnson, The Headbangers, The Legion Of Doom, Sid, Crush and more were on the card! MANSCAPED - Give your dad a Father's Day gift he will be using for years to come.
