    Ivy Insights

The Sacramentalists podcast has had a profound impact on my understanding of the Anglican tradition. With its rich theology, devotional content, and engaging hosts, it has become an indispensable companion for anyone interested in exploring or deepening their knowledge of the Canterbury trail. I have found the episodes to be well-produced and informative, providing valuable insights into the Anglican faith.

One of the best aspects of this podcast is its ability to delve into the depths of Anglo-Catholic expression. The hosts bring a genuine passion for their faith and offer thought-provoking discussions on various theological topics. Their insights are enlightening, and they do a fantastic job of making complex concepts accessible to listeners. Additionally, the bonus episodes are a wonderful addition, providing even more content for those eager to dive deeper into their faith.

However, there is one drawback that I have noticed in recent episodes. The podcast seems to have shifted toward promoting a narrow band of Anglo-Catholic expression, which can alienate listeners who may not align with that specific perspective. In doing so, the show loses some of its inclusivity and becomes less appealing for those seeking a broader exploration of Anglicanism. I personally preferred the earlier episodes when they were still affiliated with ACNA.

In conclusion, despite its recent shift in focus, The Sacramentalists remains a valuable resource for anyone interested in understanding Anglicanism and exploring the mysteries of God. It is well-produced, insightful, and grounded in scripture, making it a must-listen for any Anglican or anyone curious about Anglo-Catholicism. While there may be room for improvement in terms of representing a broader range of perspectives within Anglicanism, this podcast still offers invaluable insights into the beauty and truth of the tradition.

Joseph Ratzinger was one of the most prolific and significant Catholic theologians of the 20th century. Given his important roles in the Roman Catholic Church, he was involved in some of the formative conversations about Holy Orders. On this episode, we have returning guest Sr. Sara Butler to discuss Ratzinger's theology of Holy Orders and how it interacts with and differs from Protestant theologies of ministry, especially in relation to the divisive question of Women's Ordination. Sr. Sara Butler is a member of the Missionary Servants of the Blessed Trinity. She has a PhD and STL in Systematic Theology and has taught at two archdiocesan seminaries in Chicago and New York. She has published many scholarly articles and has written a book called The Catholic Priesthood and Women. She is the Professor Emerita of Dogmatic Theology at the University of St. Mary of the Lake.
