This was originally recorded in 2021 and in honour of one of our fallen; Alfred Bar (R.I.P Mar 08/2017). We talk about life, joining the military, and Joe shares some good stories. Including one of a particularly bad parachute exit. It brings in perspective the danger of the job but also the value of excellent training.Joe is to be the next course NCO, a very loving human, knowledgeable SAR tech, and good friend. There is a lot shared in the episode and i hope you enjoy it.To Al:If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you, If all men count with you, but none too much;If you can fill the unforgiving minute With sixty seconds' worth of distance run, Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it, And—which is more—you'll be a Man, my son!RESCUE!!!!!Support the show

During the last 100 days, 30 Canadians and Newfoundlanders were awarded the Victoria Cross. The triumphs came at a high price. Canadians and Newfoundlanders suffered 45,835 casualties including more than 6,800 killed. Included in that number was Canadian, Private George Lawrence Price, who was struck in the chest by a sniper's bullet as he emerged from the doorway of a house in a small Belgian village. The following is a 1st hand account from the Pilot of the boldest and most massive air disaster rescue mission ever undertaken by the Canadian military in the High Arctic. Edge of your seat story, and incredibly emotional.Every year, in the cold and darkness of late October, personnel at Canadian Forces Station Alert on Ellesmere Island, Nunavut, gather at a cairn near the runway to remember the crew and passengers of Hercules 130322 who lost their lives during a resupply mission to the station. On October 30, 1991, at approximately 4:40 p.m., flight 22 of Operation Boxtop – as the biannual resupply mission is called – was on its final approach to the station from Thule Air Force Base in Greenland. As the CC-130 Hercules from 435 Transport and Rescue Squadron, loaded with 3,400 litres of diesel fuel, began its descent, the pilot flying lost sight of the runway. Moments later, radar contact and communication were lost as the aircraft crashed approximately 16 km south of the station. The crew of another CC-130 Hercules, also bound for Alert, saw the fires of the crash and identified the location of Boxtop 22. The crash took the lives of five Canadian Armed Forces members – four died in the crash and one perished before help arrived.Don't forget about our training programs!
