Roger is one of the best fisherman I know! Hes the Owner of Schumann Fishing Guide Service based out of Minot North Dakota. When he called me and asked if I wanted to jump in the boat with him to go pitch jigs and place with his forward facing sonar I jumoed at the chance. Sadly, the fish werent as cooperative as they were the previous day. Fun was had anyway! The walleyes werent active but we caught enough Northern Pike and Smallmouth Bass tp keep us entertained. 

2 episodes ago I did a solo episode called “I Don't Qualify to be a Gatekeeper”. I got so many messages about it, I wanted to add a little more perspective, more stories and even countering some of my points based on experiences. Big admission at the end. I might regret it. Kay Foye is an incredible Knifemaker whose direction focuses on the the voice and memories of the objects she uses to create her work. A lot of that direction comes from her experiences ranging from working in the New York fashion industry to being a ranch hand in Colorado. The evolution of her work like many artists is influenced by her surroundings as well as the people she talks to. Her process has led her to finding patrons who give her heirlooms and keepsakes for her to use in knife handles that appear to be a sculptural collage. Contrasting with the impermanence of carbon steel, or even a farriers rasp, these intricately built handles on give the feeling of preserved memories with the expectation of making new memories as the patina develops. I am running the New York City marathon after running it 12 years ago on the Michael J. Fox Foundation team. This Foundation is raising money for Parkinson's disease research. Steve Pellegrino passed away on February 27 from injuries in car accident on his way home from his shop. He was an awesome Bladesmith and a good friend. I thought on this episode I would tell some stories about him and talk about his work. Incredible talent, kind, generous and happy. This unthinkable tragedy has rocked the maker and knifemaking community and frankly even writing this is unbelievable. Terry Scroggins joins BTL to talk about his recent Top 5 finish in the BPT in Florida.  He also talks about cashing a check on Cherokee Lake with a 1/8 oz crappie jig and 4lb test.  

Ben Kamon is one of the best Bladesmiths in the knife game and he's back! Fresh off a huge project at Kamon Knives, we talked about what it takes to build 60 identical knives. We discussed how his days as a production blacksmith helped in building all the jigs and tools to help make all the steps consistent.
