Kate Adie introduces stories from Syria, Ukraine, France, Ghana and Saudi Arabia. The speed at which President Assad was deposed was a shock to many, including the BBC's Lina Sinjab. She had been forced to leave her home country in 2013, after being detained and threatened by Syrian security forces. On the surface, not much has changed in the country, says Andrew Harding - but what about further down the road?Like other polls around the world this year, Ghana's recent general election saw another incumbent ousted. The reasons behind this are familiar, too, says James Copnall - rising prices, rising rent and a general malaise and desire for change.Saudi Arabia was crowned host of the 2034 World Cup this week - the pinnacle of an orchestrated campaign to bring some positive PR to the Kingdom through international sport and culture. In this engaging podcast episode, Adrian, your host, is joined by Paul Adams, the Head of New Product Development and a Senior Engineer at the Sofeast Group, to explore the concept of MVPs (Minimum Viable Products) versus SLCs (Simple, Lovable, Complete products). Paul expertly clarifies these concepts, tracing the origins of MVPs to Eric Riese's lean startup approach. He elaborates on how MVPs aim to bring products to market swiftly to gather initial consumer feedback. However, common pitfalls are discussed, such as focusing too much on 'minimal' and neglecting 'viable'. Transitioning to SLCs, the conversation highlights the advantages of crafting products that are not only simple but also complete and able to forge emotional connections with users. Paul emphasizes that while both MVPs and SLCs have their place in product development, SLCs offer a framework to deliver more polished and consumer-friendly initial offerings. Throughout the episode, listeners are treated to practical advice, real-world examples like Amazon and Airbnb, and Paul's insights into avoiding common product development pitfalls. The goal is to equip you with the knowledge to make informed decisions about your product's journey from concept to market. News about accessible opera and ballet with a first for opera audio description at the Royal Opera House in London as there will be recorded audio description available at all of the performances of Tosca in July along with touch tours prior to the performances on Tuesday 16 and Friday 19 July at 6.30pm. RNIB Connect Radio's Toby Davey was joined by Audio Describer Alice Gilmour who worked on the recorded description for Tosca and Paul Adams, Access Project Manager at the Royal Opera House to find out more about Tosca with recorded description. About Tosca: From Sardou's play to Puccini's opera From the early 1890s Giacomo Puccini had toyed with adapting French playwright Victorien Sardou's gripping melodrama La Tosca into an opera, but only began serious work following the premiere of the critically acclaimed La bohème in 1896. Employing La bohème's gifted librettists Giuseppe Giacosa and Luigi Illica to streamline Sardou's complicated plot, Puccini's Tosca premiered in 1900. With the city gripped by political unrest, fears of violence plagued the premiere at Rome's Teatro Costanzi. However, Tosca opened without incident, and although unpopular with critics who disliked its violence, it became an immediate success with the public and has remained a favourite ever since. Puccini portrays the idealism of Tosca and her lover Cavaradossi through radiant, expansive music, including Act I's duet 'Qual occhio al mondo' (What eyes of this world), Cavaradossi's ardent aria 'Recondita armonia' (Hidden harmony) and Tosca's despairing Act II prayer 'Vissi d'arte' (I lived for my art). Scarpia's music, by contrast, is dark and terrifying – from the demonic chords that open the opera to the violence of his Act II exchanges with Tosca. Kate Adie presents stories from Gaza, Turkey, Somalia, Ecuador and Japan.US President Joe Biden raised hopes that a ceasefire deal was close to being reached this week over the release of Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners. But these hopes faded after a tragic incident in which more than 100 people were killed as aid was being delivered to Gaza City. Paul Adams says the incident also highlighted wider problems as the war continues.Lizzie Porter follows the story of a family who fled Gaza early on in the war, and who fled to Turkey as dual nationals, leaving family, friends and valuables behind. They told her about their new life in Turkey and their fears for those left behind. After the militant group, Al Shabaab withdrew from the Somalian capital Mogadishu, the city has become safer. Nonetheless the group remains a potent threat. Yet there is an even greater menace in the country: climate change, after severe droughts, followed by flooding forced farmers off their land. Peter Oborne met some of those who were displaced and who are trying to support themselves in other ways.A project in Ecuador is using the Amazon's “ancestral highways” – rivers – and a fleet of solar-powered boats run by Indigenous communities to provide a sustainable model of transport for the future. Peter Yeung went for a ride and heard how this has been met with a mixed response by some indigenous leaders. And we're in Inazawa in Japan, where the Hadaka Matsuri - or Naked Festival - has come up with a solution to flagging numbers of participants: involve women. Shaimaa Khalil met a group of 40 women who took part (in robes) for the first time.Series Producer: Serena Tarling Editor: Matt Willis Production Coordinator: Rosie Strawbridge

There is a universal – but uncomfortable – truth about grief: We will all experience it at some point in our lives. WRESTLING WITH YOUR FUTURE, Paul Adams by Community of Faith
: Kate Adie presents stories from Israel, Turkey, Switzerland, DRC and Indonesia Four weeks on from Hamas' deadly attack in Israel, details continue to emerge about the killing spree. Israelis are wrestling with the impact and the consequences - and the release by Hamas of a hostage video this week has added pressure on Benjamin Netanyahu to secure their release. Paul Adams finds there's a pervasive sense of insecurity in the streets of Jerusalem, with violent incidents puncturing any veneer of calm. Victoria Craig spoke to people at a rally in Istanbul's Ataturk airport, where the Turkish President was vocal in his support for Hamas and unflinching in his criticism of Israel's offensive in Gaza. She reflects on how far this is a step change in Turkey's relationship with Israel. It's Peace Week in Geneva. Diplomats, aid workers and academics gather annually here to discuss ways to achieve peace. This year, as conflict rages in the Middle East and beyond, some are asking whether international organisations – and international law, are losing their relevance, says Imogen Foulkes. The east of the Democratic Republic of Congo is a region which has endured multiple crises – with many still unfolding. Hugh Kinsella Cunningham tracked the Congolese military as it tackled the most pressing challenge of fighting the rebel group, M23. Since Russia invaded Ukraine last year, millions of Ukrainians have fled their homes; they're internally displaced or finding refuge in neighbouring countries. And some have taken longer-haul journeys to the other side of the world. Michelle Jana Chan discovered the Ukrainian community on the Indonesian island of Bali. But there are also extreme dangers to traveling with strangers on highways and backroads. No matter how trustworthy or well-intentioned a driver might seem, it's nearly impossible to tell if they are actually a predator or murderer, preying upon innocent hitchhikers.
