(19:40) - After Gojo gives a “Blind Sided” update from this Michael Oher vs. the Tuohy family saga, Charlotte shares her thoughts on reframing this story: “The Tuohys 1000% profited off of Michael Oher.” Golic says the details are still murky but people calling for Sandra Bullock to forfeit her Oscar need to shut it.  (28:00) - Three Big Questions for the SEC: Should we be afraid of how much Nick Saban has been smiling lately? (33:00) Is Brian Kelly primed for a National Championship run in his second year with LSU? (36:43) Is Tennessee's Joe Milton the most important player in the conference? Colleen got started in the fitness industry back in 2013. Her fitness advice has been featured in New York Post, Women's Health, Cosmopolitan and more. She has been a featured trainer in virtual platforms such as Daily Burn and EqxPlus. In addition to kettlebells, she has a background in yoga, indoor cycling, and three dimensional functional strength training. In 2021 she set the world record for Heaviest Weight Lifted in 1 hour by Turkish Get Up (by female). Later that same year she then beat it! She has a passion for both strength + endurance challenges. When the pandemic hit back in 2020, she pivoted her whole business online. In her first year as a virtual kettlebell coach she has taught 100+ students to safely use kettlebells and perform skills such as swings, cleans, and snatches. An eating disorder survivor, Colleen owes much of what has helped her overcome adversity in her life to learning the "hardstyle" kettlebell technique. It is her mission to support other women in overcoming their own challenges and feeling strong and fierce through this same discipline. You'll most likely hear her quote, "Find Your Fierce." Which is a notion to help women overcome self limiting beliefs by feeling strong because every woman deserves to feel like she is strong, smart, and capable to go after whatever she desires. Through the power of community, education, and elevating progress over perfection, we are able to spark belief in every woman that, “YES.SHE.CAN!”

Eva Schubert is a singer-songwriter, poet, and historian from Canada with several full-length albums, plus an upcoming record that was finished just weeks ago. In this conversation, Alex and Eva discuss growing up and growing into poetry, concepts of self-identity, the fears and imperatives surrounding human creativity, art as competition and communication, Eva's thoughts as she writes her lyrics, how to avoid musical and writerly clichés, and an analysis of two albums: 2017's outstanding “Borderless Sky” and 2019's “Hot Damn Romance”. At the end of the discussion, we touch on our shared interests of fitness, deadlifting, nutrition, and injuries/injury prevention as they relate to middle age and beyond. Time did not permit us to get to T.S. Eliot's “The Waste Land”, as planned, but we will make it up to the audience with another ArtiFact on this and other subjects down the road. Whether you’re an athlete or not, proper movement is the key to preventing injury and staying fit overall. DNS is one of the many tools that is helping people properly find stabilization and operate at peak performance. Today’s guest is an expert in its application and is here to share how this movement system can help you too. Dr. Michael Rintala is a San Diego based chiropractor who has specialized in rehabilitation and sports medicine for 17 years. His career has taken him to work with golfers on the PGA tour, professional surfers, and athletes of all sorts. Dr. Rintala explains what it means to be a chiropractor for athletes. DNS (Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization) is a large part of the work that he does. Dr. Rinalta shares how it has been instrumental in keeping high-performers in top shape. If you’ve never heard of DNS and its role in rehabilitation, Dr. Rintala breaks it down in terms that any of us should be able to understand. It all hinges on deep stabilization which in turn permits better joint movement throughout the body. Dr. Rintala uses this throughout his practice and explains how it has helped many people, from professional to amateur athletes, manage their movement better and avoid injury. How might you be able to apply DNS in your practice? Let me know in the comments on the episode page!   In this episode The type of work that chiropractors do when serving athletes The role of DNS in improving the efficiency of movement Common biomechanical compensations and injuries of elite and amateur surfers What the Czech Get-Up is and why it is a good alternative to the Turkish Get-Up   Quotes “If we improve efficiency in our movement, we decrease potential for injury and we increase the potential for performance.” [6:45 “Ideal deep stabilization - that ability to create a fixed point through the trunk and the pelvis - also allows the joint centration throughout the whole chain of movement with the human body.” [10:43] “If I can maintain the synergy and stabilization and joint centration through the transitions at each developmental sequence, that’s where the magic happens in integrating dynamic movement into the sport you do.” [25:23]   Links Find Dr. Michael Rintala online Follow Dr. Rintala on YouTube | Facebook | Instagram Prague School of Rehabilitation The Czech Get-Up IntelliSkin   Check out the full show notes for this episode here Urban Wellness Clinic Follow Emily & Urban Wellness on Facebook | Twitter | Instagram | YouTube

This week I’ve got a new podcast to share with you. Instead of a single topic, I had a few random things that wouldn’t make for a whole episode alone so I put them together into this BikeJames Podcast. In this episode I cover… Knee Stomp vs. Hip Stomp: Why “stomp your feet” can be a bad coaching cue for jumping or manualing your bike. The importance of foot position on the bike for using your Hip Hinge and “stomping your feet” the right way (and why this is a major reason the Catalyst Pedals work so well). Some history on the Turkish Get Up and why you may be missing out if all you do is the kettlebell version. Some interesting studies on Isometric Training and my Bro Science interpretation of them for us as riders. I hope you enjoy this month’s episode and I’ll look forward to sharing more stuff with you in the next one. Until next time… Ride Strong, James Wilson MTB Strength Training Systems

On this week’s listener Q&A episode I give away a bunch of stuff, tell some stories, welcome a surprise guest to the studio, and answer a wide array of your questions. I also rant on a variety of subjects and tell stories ranging from Instagram handles to the stupid mistake I made in New York City not one, not two, but three friggin times.    Questions include:   Can you train 6x a week for 30-40 minutes and get great results?    What are must do exercises for joint health?   How do you program core work in a GPP phase?   What is a tolerable amount of fat gain while bulking?   What are my current macros and calories?   Can you add muscle while participating in a sport?   Should you use straps on deadlifts?   What’s better for fat loss; HIIT or LISS? And before or after weights?    When will cardio hurt lifting gains? Would like to run 3 miles 2x per week and bike 50 miles, once.    Did I ever follow professional bodybuilding? What’s my opinion on those mass monsters?    Do I train any martial arts?    If you want to lose 25lbs of fat and are in a caloric deficit what good will lifting do?    My thoughts on sneakers to train in and minimalist shoes in general.   Should you be eating animal organs?    Is a bodyweight workout good for lean, ripped gains? High reps at all times?    How do you help your clients stay on track with their nutrition?    How to implement HIIT/sprints etc without doing too much right off the bat?    Is the Turkish Get Up worth the time invested to learn?   Am I going to be speaking at any summits this year?    How to become a great coach or trainer.    This episode is brought to you by Cured Nutrition. CBD is a game changer when it comes to reducing inflammation and improving sleep quality. Cured Nutrition makes CBD-infused products from Colorado-grown organic hemp. Erwan Le Corre is the founder of MovNat, a lifestyle program geared towards helping others get connected to nature through physical movement. MovNat is also a practice based on natural movement skills such as running, dancing, climbing, and even manipulating heavy objects. He dedicates his life not only to improve people’s efficiency when doing natural movements, but also to “bring back something done before.” Today, Erwan shares us the story of MovNat, his approach to exercise and training, and why he thinks people need to get re-connected with nature.   "Functional strength is everything we do.” Erwan Le Corre   In this episode, you’ll learn: Erwan focused on two points when he created Movnat: To give back natural movement to the world and to come up with an effective program to teach it. Strength is not just about power, but how you put strength to use with skills and techniques necessary in the real world. Our modern day conveniences don't require us to move very much. His approach is not just with intensity but by improving technique through position and breathing, and creating a balance between tension and relaxation. Most of us have that inch-wide, mile-deep focus. We're in some sort of movement deficit. MovNat can work both indoors and outdoors. Indoor training allows people do hone their movements safely and in a scalable and progressive manner. Outside, it’s nonexistent in nature. It’s a take it or leave it proposition and can be dangerous. What they teach is a realistic evaluation of each person’s movement ability. One of the best exercises to practice natural movement is by doing a Turkish Get-Up.   Key Takeaways: It’s important to understand the importance of nature thru movement. We need physical competency and preparedness for the real world.   Connect with Erwan Le Corre: MovNat Facebook Twitter Youtube Workshops  Rate, Review, Connect, Inspire Stay updated on new episodes, guest interviews, and health, wellness, and fitness information and resources by subscribing to the HealthCastNow Podcast Show on iTunes.
