Now, let us dive into this week's reads.1. Retail giants vs Suppliers - Impact to End ConsumerRetail giants are taking a hard line with suppliers, pushing back on price raises that have become commonplace in the industry. Walmart is leading the way; last month its CEO told Sam's Club suppliers he would fight attempts to pass price hikes onto retailers, The Wall Street Journal reports, citing anonymous sources. Walmart has previously issued tough edicts to suppliers, threatening not to stock their products over price hikes. Chains like Target and Amazon have made similar moves, asking suppliers for discounts — as a tight labor market, high inflation and an inventory glut weigh on suppliers and retailers.That is really a conundrum when the buyer has so much power/clout. Seller's wallet share of Walmart purchase is in low single digit to very best mid double digit. So in my view its more of walmart's buying power vs. supplier's ability to price appropriately. This is just an observation but how do we counter such a push from walmart is altogether a different question and conundrum to me - Accept it as market structure/market constraints or plan taking the above push from Walmart as given variable in business planning.Consumers are 70% of the US economy. Consumer goods channels are now seeing: the “fastest boomerang (power) back to customers ever seen”. Most of the remaining B2B economy will follow. Retail is always a tough business but it's especially tough in an economic downturn. Walmart, Amazon and Target are all working to push more of the downward margin pressure back on their suppliers."Large retailers are canceling orders, resisting price increases and in some cases asking suppliers to provide discounts. This puts pressure on product makers that are struggling to adapt to shifting consumer demand."While it wasn't a macro economic event we saw that same thing happening during the initial phases of the trade war with China. Manufacturers got squeezed by their retail customers and were able to muddle through by pushing back on their suppliers in turn, and in some cases cutting into what little product margin they had.So far this has felt similar, but with the added pressure of an anticipated slowdown in consumer demand. I expect this Q4 and next year to be tough, and for manufacturer's to have to work especially hard to maintain a profitable and sustainable business.2. Be Resilient for your New Year ResolutionFew Notes from the book “ The Difference ”, Specially the topic of increasing your Resilience Quotient hit a note, which I thought of sharing with the group, specially near year resolutions on the way. This short list is going to help you increase your resilience quotient to keep your new year goal and meet. * Ask yourself one question, Do i have to change or does someone else have to change for me to succeed at my goal ?* Do Something. It may be wrong thing, but it is okay, you will do something else latter. Take small actionable steps towards your goal* Take a Break. This is opposite of #2. If you are working on something which is not going anywhere, Take a break. Rest to get your focus back.* Find a Cheerleader. When you share your goal with others, their is 50% chance of success. You are not looking for someone who can push the same mountain as you are pushing. You are looking for someone who can believe in you and keep a check on you every few months about your journey.* Emphasize the Positive. Be Optimistic. Recognize the good stuff that happens to you each day.* Be Realistic toward your goal.* Silence your Internal Critics. This is our own harsh internal radio that keeps on playing in our head about negativity over and over again and makes it difficult to reach our goals. Don't let it push you, rather listen to it, listen to all the Questions its raising. From your last one week of work, Look for one good achievement or work which you have done toward your goal. Come up with one good reason , a solid reason which can allow your brain to overcome those internal critics off, so which can remind your #1, why you are doing this. * Get Rid of Distractions. This is E-Mail, TV watching, Chatting, Social media mindless browsing, Internet. Get rid of distractions so you have your focus towards your goal. Be Resilient. That is all for this week. The way Mari delivered the message left a lot to be desired.  Kenny is dating multiple people at the same time to find a long-term partner.  Marni says if you are afraid to commit and are dating someone who has self-worth, when you tell the other person you want to see other people, you should mean it. A person who has self-worth, like Kenny, will not take it personally and do what you suggest. Kenny slept with Demi shortly after Mari spoke with him.     Quality Guys Get Bored When You Self-Sabotage [20:07] If you have a pattern of sabotaging your relationships, it is likely guys you are dating will become disinterested. Consider if you are putting all of your cards on the table, or whether you make it too hard for him to take things to the next level. He might just get bored and find someone else who is easy to date. Abigail is an example of someone who doesn't open up and reciprocate feelings. She admits to being a self-sabotager but she can't seem to break the pattern. Noah says he will try to break down her walls but after a while, he will become disinterested. It is tragic.     How to Be Resilient in Dating [29:28] Aaron displays a great example of resilience after Tammy dumps him.  Even though he was really bummed out he did not let it impact his ability to stay true to his goal. He didn't take it personally, he didn't go into victim, and he shifted his energy. If someone informs you they want to stop dating, give yourself time to be bummed out but get over it. A conversation with Australia literary hero, Patrick Lindsay. I really trust you enjoy this podcast and this conversation with Patrick Lindsay. He is a phenomenal human being and a very compassionate man. I'm a big fan of his work and researching this podcast, getting to know his work and getting to know him has been a real joy. Patrick Lindsey has had a long career in print and television journalism both here and overseas. He's been a TV presenter, a producer, film maker and a writer, and he's become one of Australia's leading non-fiction authors publishing over 21 non-fiction books. He is a professional observer who writes on topics that are close especially to Australians and New Zealanders and around the world. He shares inspiring messages of wisdom through his motivational series that he wrote for his grandchildren. And he reminds us that within us we have the power to change our lives for the better - he’s definitely the eternal optimist. He's doing amazing work. He's has a new movie coming out shortly, the home front, which is a film looking at what we can do to support returned serviceman. During the podcast we talked about going to Gallipoli and Kokoda and we look at those wars and those campaigns, we talk about the philosophy of war and what it means for us today and the fortune we have today, which is almost self-evident. We do a little bit of Trump ranting, which is always good for a podcast. We look at politics and the effects of social media on it. We touch on that. We talk about this, the way he thinks and how he approaches things. I was in a cafe, I think it was only yesterday and I was crying, reading his book, The Spirit of Gallipoli. It overwhelmed me and I was surprised at how many people didn’t know the story. And there are so many stories to speak of that we didn't get to cover in the podcast as much as I'd like. So I do recommend that you go and read this book. I appreciate the cynicism and the questions we asked today about the folio of war and the folly of sacrificing ourselves in another land for a piece of land that we've never heard of before. And in no way, is that to disparage or take anything away from soldiers who volunteer to go and support and defend our nation and the places that need them. I’m really just so honoured that they do that for us every single day. Our discussions raised the question about drafting, if that would be introduced again today. How would we be? What would we say? What would we do? How would we look at it? What would social media say? What new device would be created? Who would go? Would women go? Once a soldier said it was your national duty. When I think about how few people know the story of Gallipoli today, and know what it meant for those diggers, what they lost and what they did and what they sacrificed and what they had to do, it’s heartbreaking. All the rules about what we believe about institutions and what they can ask of us now has changed so radically from this a hundred years ago. Interesting questions. I do love interesting perspectives. And this podcast to me at its heart, it's about different ways of thinking. I just enjoyed so much chatting with him and I trust you get some value out of meeting and getting up close with Patrick Lindsey. Patrick thinks the analogy for being resilient is ‘being a twig’ , A green, healthy twig that that can blow in the winds and always bounce back. Because to be resilient you have to have a healthy mind, a healthy body, you know, a healthy spirit kind of thing, a sound, one of those. He refers to the great stoics and ancient Greek and Roman philosophers. Resilience and a sense of duty in today’s world We talk about the sense of duty during the past world wars and discuss how this has changed in today’s age and the plight of the modern veteran and how Patrick has come to be inspired by so many stories are of stoicism and a resilience, of personal sacrifice and of bravery. Strategy and leadership in war We explored the role of leadership in war, the structured Japanese, the fierce training of the Australians and their adaptability and the wonderful lessons learned from the guys who just ‘stepped into the role of leader. And how after war they went back into society and resumed their lives - they didn't then say, okay, I've just spent five years being a warrior and how with the help of their mates they were able to survive. The role of authorities and support for returned soldiers There is a point of view of modern veterans, they feel an adversarial relationship between them and the structures that support them - having been sent away, having been damaged, having comeback with physical and mental issues and things like that, Patrick expresses his view on this and the toll of mental illness on the returned service man and the danger of unresolved issues. The Spirit of Gallipoli, Churchill and the front line We talk about the bravery of great leaders in war and the sacrifice of the soldiers. The change in journalism from legacy voice – to 10,000 opinions. You can never go back to an innocent time when legacy media decided the message back in the day, when you were a journalist, you were part of legacy media, you were the voice. Now there's 10,000 other voices, right behind yours, giving a contrary message. And none of them agree. We don't even agree on the facts now then learn how to a great, how to get to a point of, we don't even do with the fixed. Be resilient and thrive – rational thinking Patrick talks about his books, Thrive, the most recent was is inspired by having optimistic messages that are worthwhile. We explore rational thinking. Sometimes we need to take a critical look at it. Have we simply adapted another's viewpoint? Is that really driving our thinking? Have we rushed to a conclusion? Don't treat all thoughts equally.

We're making it through.  It's been a long, long year.  Here we are New Year's Eve.  We have been through a huge storm this year.  The emotions we have all felt around the last 12 months has been wild.  Doesn't seem like its been 365 days….seems like March and April was at least that long.  It feels like this year has been more like 965 days.  Much of the year, we have felt, overwhelmed, lonely, uncomfortable, shocked and disturbed.  But, guess what, learning to be Resilient was put to the test.  I say we all passed.  It may not have been the way we wanted to pass the test, but we passed.   WE are Resilient. This is the last episode of the BE Resilient Series and the last episode of the year.  Those of you that followed my BE Resilient series I hope you have enjoyed the guests that shared how they became more resilient in their lives and business.  For those of you that have missed my daily resilient post, I'm going to be sharing in  today's episode several of my 54 Tips on my Journey to Resiliency ( a recap) of several some of my best  observations, learnings and ways that have encouraged me to become more resilient in my 55 years here on earth.  Catch #55 Tip in today's episode... Marni, Man Panelist Chris Gillis, and special guest Dr. Emily discuss what happened in week four of The Bachelorette, including how Claire went from single to engaged to Dale at breakneck speed. What kind of relationship will they have and what should the other guys think about it?   Key takeaways from this episode:  How self-esteem issues can show up as overcompensation. When hormones take center stage Why you should let your date express his values Why moving fast with a high-quality guy is a bad idea   Is Claire Stuck in Fantasy Land When it Comes to Dating?  [1:59]  It took Claire all of five seconds to make herself believe that Dale is THE one. However, she may be wrapped up in the ‘knight in shining armor syndrome’. Because of our upbringing or childhood fairy tales, it’s easy for some of us to launch into our dates thinking that a guy is supposed to sweep us off of our feet.  Therapist Emily says that as teenagers we have physiological, biological, and emotional drivers that we don’t know how to handle because the executive part of our brain isn’t fully formed. The team says that Claire may have been experiencing 'skin hunger' and it may have escalated and triggered her immediate physical attraction to Dale.  Chris offers that Claire may be stuck in arrested development. She is relying on the idea of what she thinks love should be.  Studies show that when we search for a connection we can find connection with anybody, even a person we despise.   Why Moving Fast is a Bad Idea with a High-Quality Guy [11:58] Moving too fast with a guy can sabotage what may have been a real relationship. It's a giant scary red flag. A high-quality guy will feel like the relationship is manufactured and he is being pushed and rushed.   Emily points out that it is important to discern between the statement "I'm falling in love” and “I am in love". In Claire’s case, she leads the witness over and over again. Marni wonders if Dale is considering his contract and his Instagram followers more than a long-term relationship at this stage.  Remember, women speak in 21,000 words a day and men only speak in 7000. It’s a good idea to give your date a chance to tell you about themselves. Pay attention to the excessive amount of words Claire used in her ‘I love you’ speech.    The Guys Will Need to Be Resilient  [27:27] Marni poses the question, if you have a crush, obsession, or unrequited love is it possible and be open to dating someone else? Chris says it would be hard to pivot from one person to another after you just opened up and expressed your desires to someone else. He says guys generally close up and need time before getting back in the game.  So, how can we show up as our best selves after someone rejects us? Marni points out that there is a lot we can learn from rejection, but the most important thing to remember is that it's not personal.  Chris says if someone rejects us we should be open to their honest feedback as we can learn a lot from it. It gives us the unique opportunity to decide what to take from it and let the rest go.  If you are attracted to someone and they don’t reciprocate don't beat yourself up about it and don’t give it meaning.    Dating Advice from this Episode:  Be clear about what you are looking for in a partner. Talk about your values during a date. Be present in what is happening not what happened in the past & not what may be in the future.  Show up with an open heart and curiosity. Episode 33. –  Being Open and Coping Well          September 14, 2020. Intro: Welcome to the podcast Coronavirus Crisis: Carpe Diem!, where by God's grace, you and I rise up and embrace the possibilities and opportunities for spiritual and psychological growth in this time of crisis, all grounded in a Catholic worldview.   We are going beyond mere resilience, to rising up to the challenges of this pandemic and becoming even healthier in the natural and the spiritual realms than we were before.  I'm clinical psychologist Peter Malinoski your host and guide, with Souls and Hearts at soulsandhearts.com.  Thank you for being here with me.  This is episode 33, released on September 14, 2020 and it is titled: Being Open and Coping Well Today we're going to explore openness in the natural realm.  And as a special bonus, we will explore closedness.   Abierto Cerrado.   Review:  Episode 32:  Ways to increase trust, especially given the negative experiences.  0-24 months.  Exercise – popular.  Need more of that.   Episode 31  The One Thing You Must Have to Be Resilient.  The one thing that you need, the one prerequisite.  Absolute childlike trust There is one thing that separates those who are resilient from those who are not.   Childlike Trust (particularly in God's goodness and his Providence for me in particular) separate those who are resilient from those who are not.  Absolute confidence in God.     Episode 30: discussion of why we mistrust God so much, and it is because we are trying to be way too big.  Trying to make it on our own we don't feel safe.  Trust is faith in action.   We hate and fear the dependency required to be in a real relationship with God.  Reciprocal relationship between openness and trust.    Why do I bring in Non-Catholic ideas:   What makes me different.  Not closed to new ideas.   Catholic with a small c  -- universal.St. Augustine:  On Christian Doctrine (De Doctrina Christiana)  CHAP. 40.—Whatever has been rightly said by the heathen we must appropriate to our uses. Paragraphs 60 and 61  Branches of heathen learning … contain also liberal instruction which is better adapted to the use of the truth, and some most excellent precepts of morality; and some truths in regard even to the worship of the One God are found among them. Not only natural learning, but we can learn truths regarding the worship of God.  Freud.  How many times have I heard Freud being dismissed out of hand by Catholics because of his views on religion.  I get it.  Freud:  God as an illusion, we're like infants who need a big, strong father to keep us safe and secure.  A big daddy in the sky.   Religion had its uses to keep the unwashed masses subdued so that civilization could develop.  We needed something to help us restrain violent impulses and keep life on earth from turning into an episode from Jerry Springer.  But now we have reason and science.   Reason and Science.   I travel in a lot of traditional Catholic circles, I attend the Latin Mass, love the beauty of the ancient Mass.  Not a lot of traditional Catholic psychologists.  Consulted nationwide, coming to Indianapolis, lot's of suspicion.   Lots of rejection of psychology But listen to what Freud is saying – we need a father.  We have an infantile need for a Father. He says it more clearly than a lot of Catholic speakers do – which Catholic media personalities have you heard really driving home the point that we are little, like todders, like infants in our need.  Freud found part of the Truth.   Pope Francis.  Not to bash the pope.  Not about that in Souls and Hearts or this podcast or the RCCD community.  September 8, 2017 New Yorker    The Pope's Shrink and Catholicism's Uneasy Relationship with FreudPope Francis Sought Psychoanalysis at 42,” the Times headline read. Other outlets treated the news more salaciously—“Pope Reveals,” “Pope Admits.” Some noted that the psychoanalyst in question was Jewish, or that she was a woman. Below the headlines, though, the stories were the same: a French sociologist named Dominique Wolton had published a book of interviews with the Pope, and, buried on page 385, amid discussions of the migrant crisis and the clash with Islam, America's wars and Europe's malaise, was the four-decade-old scoop that had made editors sit up. “I consulted a Jewish psychoanalyst,” Francis told Wolton. “For six months, I went to her home once a week to clarify certain things. She was very good. She was very professional as a doctor and a psychoanalyst, but she always knew her place.”Almost immediately, the news drew venom from the Pope's detractors. A writer for the Web site Novus Ordo Watch, a mouthpiece of the ultra-conservative Catholic fringe—its slogan is “Unmasking the Modernist Vatican II Church”—insisted that Francis's treatment by a “female Jewish Freudian” was “a really big smoking gun,” incontrovertible evidence that his “mind is saturated with Jewish ideas.”Jorge Mario Bergoglio appears to have undergone such an experience before he became Pope. When he started psychoanalysis, he was in the last year of his tenure as provincial superior of the Jesuits in Argentina, 1979. The military junta's Dirty War was raging, and it had put Bergoglio to the test. “I made hundreds of errors,” Francis told an interviewer, in 2013. “Errors and sins.” He described the period as “a time of great interior crisis.” Lucky him that he found a therapist who, mostly with the acutely focussed and patently empathetic listening that characterizes a good analyst, could enable his return to wholeness. “She helped me a lot,” he told Wolton.Biology we learned about the double helix structure of DNA.  Beautiful. that James Watson and Francis Crick discovered the double-helix structure of DNA in 1953.  1962.  Nobel Prize James Watson:  Very anti-Catholic.  Anti a lot of things.  Racism, anti-semitism.  .   He also said that while he wished the races were equal, “people who have to deal with black employees find this not true.” Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Infanticide   “If a child were not declared alive until 3 days after birth, then all parents could be allowed the choice only a few have under the present system. The doctor could allow the child to die if the parents so choose and save a lot of misery and suffering. I believe this view is the only rational, compassionate attitude to have.” Raised Catholic, he later described himself as "an escapee from the Catholic religion."  Watson said, "The luckiest thing that ever happened to me was that my father didn't believe in God."     In like manner, 1978, Pacific News Service.  Dr. Francis Crick, who received the Nobel Prize along with Watson said:   “No new-born infant should be declared human until it has passed certain tests regarding its genetic endowment and that if it fails these tests it forfeits the right to live.”    Summer 2004 New Atlantis In this, as in much of his work, Crick was driven by a profound and fiery atheism, and saw himself combating an almost medieval mindset on the part of religious communities in America and Europe. Back in 1960, he had accepted a position at Churchill College, Cambridge on the condition that the (then new) college would not build a chapel for its faculty and students. A few years later, a donor offered a large sum of money to the college for the construction of a chapel, and when the faculty voted to accept the donation, Crick resigned. In explaining his work in neuroscience, Crick described his project as standing in opposition to Catholic doctrine — or at least his vastly oversimplified and caricatured understanding of it. IPF protocol in Episode 32.  Helpful to some – some said it was weird, New Agey.  I don't use it.  Secular Definition of Openness I have to.  Treatment for bulimia in the early Church Fathers.    Treatments for complex trauma in the writings of the doctors of the Church.    NEO-Personality Inventory -- 3  Big Five.  NeuroticismExtraversionOpennessAgreeablenessConscientiousness open individuals are curious about both the inner and outer worlds, they have experientially rich lives compared to closed individuals.  Lack of conventionality, willingness to question authority, prepared to consider new ethical, social, and political ideas.  O1 Openness to Fantasy: vivid imagination, active fantasy life, daydreaming as not only an escape, but a way of creating an interesting inner world for themselves. O2 Openness to Aesthetics: a deep appreciation for art and beauty, moved by poetry, absorbed in music, intrigued by art. O3 Openness to Feelings: receptivity to my own inner feelings and emotions, and consideration of emotion is important in life.  Deeper emotional states, more differentiated emotional states, feeling emotions more keenly. O4 Openness to Actions: willingness to try different activities, to go new places, it eats unusual foods.  Preference for novelty and variety over familiarity and routine.  May change hobbies O5 Openness to Ideas: intellectual curiosity, pursuing intellectual interests for their own sake.  Willingness to consider new, unconventional ideas.  Liking philosophical arguments. O6 Openness to Values: willingness to re-examine and reevaluate social, political, and religious values.  Close individuals accept authority and honor tradition.  Opposite of dogmatism. Big Five Inventory  Security and Attachment are prerequisites for openness.  Awe, wonder come after.  Heaven Hell and six foot spoons.   Openness in different aspects –  Mind (understanding of the Faith  Isaiah 55),  Heart (emotions, intuitions, the ways of the heart), Ezekiel 11:19  “And I will give them one heart, and a new spirit I will put within them. I will remove the heart of stone from their flesh and give them a heart of flesh.” Body (bodily sensations) Soul – religious experiences, charismatics, not my vision – Passion of the Christ.    Next episode – receptivity.  We're going to take all this into the realm of the spiritual.   Closedness.  CBT, meds, playing it safe.  Talent buried.  Fear.  Rigidity in some therapists.  Am I being a good therapist.  A Catholic enough therapist.  Self-focus rather than focus on the client When to be open, when to be closed.  Adam and Eve needed to be closed.   Problematic openness.  Adam and Eve  NEO-PI3 manual “Openness may sound healthier or more mature to many psychologists, but the value of openness or closeness depends on the requirements of the situation, and both open and closed individuals perform useful functions in society.” The walrus and the Carpenter.  Lewis Carrol and the plight of the overly open oysters.  Opened and eaten. Episode 32. – Trauma, Trust, Treatment and Truth     September 7, 2020. Intro: Welcome to the podcast Coronavirus Crisis: Carpe Diem!, where with God's help you and I rise up and embrace the possibilities and opportunities for spiritual and psychological growth in this time of crisis, all grounded in a Catholic worldview.   We are going beyond mere resilience, to rising up to the challenges of this pandemic and becoming even healthier in the natural and the spiritual realms than we were before.  I'm clinical psychologist Peter Malinoski your host and guide, with Souls and Hearts at soulsandhearts.com.  Thank you for being here with me.  This is episode 32, released on September 7, 2020 and it is titled: Trauma, Trust, Treatment and Truth.  Today is a deep dive into the effects of trauma and attachment wounds on Trust.  And then we will discuss how by God's grace and with his help we can experience God as he is, not our distorted God images, rise out of the ashes of our experiences and our injuries.   Very specific techniques to help. Era of Coronavirus – call to trust God and Mary.   Reviews  Episode 30: discussion of why we mistrust God so much, and it is because we are trying to be way too big.  Trying to make it on our own we don't feel safe.   We hate and fear the dependency required to be in a real relationship with God.  On my terms, on my conditions, within my vision, within my understanding.  We're going to meet as equals.  We are going to be partners, like equally or almost equally yoked.  God is my co-pilot bumper sticker.  Becoming small so that God can be big.  Episode 31  The One Thing You Must Have to Be Resilient.  The one thing that you need, the one prerequisite.  Absolute childlike trust There is one thing that separates those who are resilient from those who are not.   Childlike Trust (particularly in God's goodness and his Providence for me in particular) separate those who are resilient from those who are not.   In both those episodes, we look at the critical period from age 0 to 24 months, when the major developmental task is to resolve the conflict between trust and mistrust.  Almost every development will psychologist points to this as the critical developmental work in this stage of life.   We also discussed how so much of the developmental work in this during the ages of 0 to 24 months is done not by the infants or the toddler, not by the little child, rather by the parents.  We don't expect infants and toddlers to be listening to self-help tapes and engaging in self-improvement classes.   They are far from the age of reason.  So in this issues of trust, God and Mary do the main lifting.  We allow ourselves to be changed, to be formed.   What little children, what infants and toddlers have is a great capacity for receptivity and a freedom from self-consciousness.  They have a natural humility.  They don't worry about their self-image so much.  They are flexible.  They use their imaginations.  They don't fear failing.  They don't degrade themselves when they're trying new things.  They can be learning to walk, falling down, and laughing at themselves.  They can make mistakes, they can try things out. No one expects perfection from a little child. Most therapies have focused on greater maturity, greater self-efficacy, being a more effective agent in the world, growing up. List of therapies and their goals These therapist have trouble when there is complex trauma, especially when that trauma goes back to the first two years of life.  Recent protocols developed.  Bootstrap therapies don't work.  Very low success rates.   1.      Focus on complex trauma –2.      Complex trauma: a.         is usually interpersonal i.e. occurs between people usually people who know each otherb.        involves being or feeling trappedc.        is often planned, extreme, ongoing and/or repeatedd.      often has more severe, persistent and cumulative impactse.        involves challenges with shame, trust, self-esteem, identity and regulating emotions.f.        Results in different coping strategies. These include alcohol and drug use, self-harm, over- or under-eating, over-work etc.                                                                          i.      emotional dysregulation                                                                        ii.      changes in consciousness – dissociation                                                                      iii.      negative self-perception – shame, inadequacy                                                                      iv.      problems in relationships                                                                        v.      distorted perceptions of others, including abusers                                                                      vi.      loss of systems of meaning – losing my religion REM 1991g.      affects emotional and physical health, wellbeing, relationships and daily functioning3.       Complex trauma is trauma that occurs repeatedly and cumulatively, usually over a period of time and within specific relationships and contexts.” Examples include severe child abuse, domestic abuse, or multiple military deployments to dangerous locations.Single incident trauma occurs with `one off' events. It is commonly associated with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Single incident trauma can occur from a bushfire, flood, sexual or physical assault in adulthood, or from fighting in a war.  Dyadic resourcing is typically a five step process:  1.       identifying a nurturing adult resource,2.       make the resource real for the client3.       formulating a parent-child relationship involving the resource4.       intensify the client's experience of that relationship5.       helping the client to have the experience of both the child and adult in the resource dyad. Brown and Elliott IPF Model  2017 book  -- Attachment Disturbances in Adults: Treatment for Comprehensive Repair  4.      The IPF method differs from traditional attachment-based treatments in that the primary agent of change is the patient's relationship with his or her imagined attachment figures rather than the relationship with the therapist.  p.304.  5.      The Ideal Parent Figure protocol uses guided imagery to help participants change their attachment representations. a.       The therapist encourages the client to imagine being with parent figures who were entirely constructed from their imaginationb.      During IPF therapy, the therapist guides the client vividly imagine himself or herself as a young childc.       and, as a young child, connecting and relating to new set of parents                                                                           i.      not the parents or any caregivers they grew up with.                                                                         ii.      Completely imagined parents, parent who are entirely fabricated in the imagination of the client.d.      These imagined parents are supposed to possess the all the parental qualities that promote secure attachment.e.       When you are doing the IPF protocol, you are to truly immerse themselves in the fantasy experience                                                                          i.      5 senses experiencing physical sensations in accordance to what is being imagined, like a really vivid dream.                                                                         ii.      Importantly, when needed, the therapist helped participants to differentiate imagination from memory, making sure participants were not simply recalling their own past experiences during the guided imagery. In short, the purpose was to co-create new experiences.f.        Read the prompt on p. 309g.      The therapist brings to the client's mind descriptions of specific qualities that these imagined parents possess:                                                                           i.      they protect their child – felt safety and protection                                                                        ii.      Feeling seen and known by the imagined parents1.      they are attuned to their child's emotional states                                                                      iii.      they calm and sooth their child – reassure and comfort the child1.      responsive when the child is upset, dysregulated                                                                      iv.      The imagined, ideal parents cherish the child, they rejoice in the very presence of the child, they delight in the little things that the child does.                                                                          v.      they encourage their child to attend to his or her inner experience and explore the environment which helps the child to develop – they will the good for the child.  h.      Sound familiar?  These specific parent figure qualities are based on attachment needs that, when met, are considered to promote secure attachment                                                                           i.      Five conditions of secure attachment.  Review them – Episode 23  Sinning, God images and Resilience.    Trolley to Land of Make-Believe.  Fake it till you make it… Ideal Parent Figure method in the treatment of complex posttraumatic stress disorder related to childhood trauma: a pilot study  2017 study, peer reviewed, European Journal of Psychotraumatology 17 French clients with Complex PTSD.  Five Weeks of Psychotherapy.   Results: A significant decrease in symptom severity and attachment traumatization and a significant increase in quality of life were found, both with medium-to-large effect sizes. Repeat.  Absolute confidence in God's providence.  But to have that absolute confidence, you have to be like a infant or toddler, a parvulum if you're a guy or a parvula if you're a gal.     Jesus told St. Faustina, “The graces of My mercy are drawn by means of one vessel only, and that is — trust. The more a soul trusts, the more it will receive. Souls that trust boundlessly are a great comfort to Me, because I pour all the treasures of My graces into them. I rejoice that they ask for much, because it is My desire to give much, very much. On the other hand, I am sad when souls ask for little, when they narrow their hearts”. Emile Neubert Take Only what Applies to You”   Review: spiral back to Episode 30 – Why do we have so much difficulty trusting God – it's because we are too grown up.  We're too big.   Eric Erickson 1902-1994 1.      Emphasized social development rather than resolution of sexual issues2.      Developmental Tasks that need to be resolved in each stage3.      Birth to 18 month the main conflict and developmental task is trust vs. mistrust.4.      This is the most important phase of life.  Shapes our view of the world, in addition to our personality.  a.       Can I trust those who care for me, those who are near me?  b.      Task is Hope – if this phase is adequately resolved, the result, Erickson said, is a sense of hope and confidence that relationships are beneficial, they are good.  A sense of personal competence.  c.       If successful in this, the baby develops a sense of trust, which "forms the basis in the child for a sense of identity." Failure to develop this trust will result in a  deep pervasive fear and a sense that the world is inconsistent and unpredictable. Parallel in attachment theory – John Bowlby 1907-1990 psychologist, psychiatrist and psychoanalyst  Infants and toddlers instinctively turn to their parents in distress unless there is disorder – what Bowlby and Ainsworth found.   The formation of early healthy emotional connections to mother and father is central to identity development.  Relationships are crucial, and challenged Freuds ideas about the primacy of psychic energy.  Security is dependent on healthy relational bonds.   Erickson and Bowlby said that the first and greatest challenge, the first and greatest task in the natural human development is to learn to trust, to be able to trust in relationship, it's the foundation for all other development.  Gotta get that straight.  I argue that the first and greatest task, the first and greatest challenge in the spiritual life is to trust God.   There is one thing that separates those who are resilient from those who are not.   Childlike Trust (particularly in God's goodness and his Providence for me in particular) separate those who are resilient from those who are not.   We are resilient not because of our own efficacy, our own ability, our own strength, our own intelligence, our own resources, our own knowledge, our own skills, talents, money, possessions, but Catholic resilience depends on connecting to and sharing in the love and power and omniscience of God, sheltering under His wing.  And if we are spiritually small in our relationship with God, when we fall, it's not that far to the ground. We won't get hurt.    Effects of the Fall – psychological devastation.   However the infant and the toddler will always be disappointed and wounded by the parents, because mom is not perfect, and dad is not God.   Often this is totally unintentional.   Paraphrased From Nancy McWilliams (2011) Psychoanalytic Diagnosis (second edition).   Men may easily underestimate how intimidating they are to their young daughters; men's bodies, faces, and voices are harsher than those of either of girls or their mothers, and they take some getting used to.  A father who is angry seems particularly formidable, perhaps especially to a sensitive girl.  If a man engages in tantrums, harsh criticism, erratic behavior, or sexual violation, he may be terrifying.  A doting father who also intimidates his little girl creates a kind of approach-avoidance conflict; he is an exciting but feared object.  If he seems to dominate his wife, as in a patriarchal family, the effect is magnified.  His daughter will learn that girls and women are less valued than boys and men. Oldest daughter Grace, married earlier this month, “the practice child.”  Grace and me.    There are parts of us that think we are going to be annihilated if we are small, if we are vulnerable again.  This is terrifying for us.  Think about the differential  6 foot tall and   1600 lbs, 12 ft. tall.   Able to lift a ton  worse than getting in the wrestling ring with Andrew the Giant.   24 month toddler is less than 3 feet tall and about 27 lbs.    , can squash the toddler like a bug.  Survival is on the line.   I want to meet God on my terms, on my conditions, within my vision, within my understanding.  We're going to meet as equals.  We are going to be partners, collaborators, like equally or almost equally yoked.   Trust is faith enacted in relationship.   Repeat.   CCC 150 Faith is first of all a personal adherence of man to God. At the same time, and inseparably, it is a free assent to the whole truth that God has revealed. It is right and just to entrust oneself wholly to God and to believe absolutely what he says.     Faith vs. works, reified to the realm of belief.    Hebrews 11:1: "Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen" Faith without works is dead.  James 2:26.   Matthew 9    17 And one of the crowd answered Jesus, “Teacher, I brought my son to you, for he has a dumb spirit; 18 and wherever it seizes him, it dashes him down; and he foams and grinds his teeth and becomes rigid; and I asked your disciples to cast it out, and they were not able.” 19 And he answered them, “O faithless generation, how long am I to be with you? How long am I to bear with you? Bring him to me.” 20 And they brought the boy to him; and when the spirit saw him, immediately it convulsed the boy, and he fell on the ground and rolled about, foaming at the mouth. 21 And Jesus[d] asked his father, “How long has he had this?” And he said, “From childhood. 22 And it has often cast him into the fire and into the water, to destroy him; but if you can do anything, have pity on us and help us.” 23 And Jesus said to him, “If you can! All things are possible to him who believes.” 24 Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, “I believe; help my unbelief!”  Trust is faith enacted in relationship.  The father of the demoniac is asking for help to enact his faith.     I do believe, help my unbelief.   Luke 19:8…when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth  Val Conlon:  Trust in the Lord and in His mercy is the key to open the flood gates of His mercy. Trust is an act of our free will, which gives the Lord permission to act freely, according to His will. Our trust gives God the freedom to act mercifully. By our trust God can fulfil His plan and desire to have mercy on all.   “Most dear to Me is the soul that strongly believes in My Goodness and has complete trust in Me. I heap My Confidence upon it and give it all it asks” Divine Mercy in my soul # 453  Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska Listener question/suggestion:  This listener I've known for several years and since she is local, she was come by the Souls and Hearts studio to ask her question / make her suggestion.    Happy God Images Call in leave a voicemail, email or text.  Bring those questions in.   Goal is to get that trust throughout our whole being, every fiber of our being.   That is an experiential process.  Can't think our way there, can't study our way there.  Advanced degrees.  Defense of compensation.  Corrective relational experience.   So that our God images, what we know about God in our bones is accurate, it reflects who God really is.    Two responses to resist negative God images.  1) resist.  2) change the underlying God image. It pleases God very much for us to work with these God images.  This is counterintuitive, bringing things up.  Example of kidnapping and disorientation.  Extreme example.  From the beginning of time, God knew all the mistakes our earthly parents would make, all the sins of commission, all the sins of omission, great and small, every imperfection, every failing and shortcoming, and all the impact all those would have on us.  He knew all the details of our upbringing, every trauma, every attachment injury, every relational wound from the most minor pinprick to the greatest harms we would experience.   He doesn't actively will harm to befall us.  Allows it – in his passive will, allows other to fail to be evil, but he has a plan to make up for every one of those injuries.    Mother Mary and God the Father to make up for all deficiencies in natural parent.  Not just spiritual parents. He knew that parents would fail: Isaiah 49:14-16  But Zion said, “the Lord has forsaken me, my Lord has forgotten me.”  “Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb?  Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you.  Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands.   My Ideal:  Jesus, Son of Mary   Fr. Emile Neubert  Mary as our Real Mother,  First Mother, Spiritual Mother   .   Trustful Surrender to Divine Providence  Father Jean Baptiste Saint-Jure and St. Claude de la Colombière A lot of the developmental work of children is done by their parents, especially from 0 to 24 months.  Much of it happens before the age of reason.  The child can't do it by himself.   Trust of our Lord in the flight to Egypt.  Herod (murderous – infanticide) 429 miles as the crow flies.  Strangers in a strange land Luke 2:52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man. Psalm 138:6  The Lord is on high, but cares for the lowly and knows the proud from afar. Smallness (humility) versus pride.  “The proud I know from afar” because they won't let Me be close.  We have to be small in order to be near God.  Example of the Pharisees versus the publican.  God wants relationship.   The one thing that you need, the one prerequisite.  Absolute childlike trust. Repeat.  Absolute confidence in God's providence.  But to have that absolute confidence, you have to be like a infant or toddler The trust of Blessed Faustina in Jesus was beyond all abandonment. Jesus said to St. Faustina, "your duty will be to trust entirely in My Mercy, My duty will be to give you all that you need. Episode 6: Becoming Resilient   Last week I talked about resistance and how we should expect resistance in our business. The year 2020 feels like a year of resistance. And to me, resistance is when it feels like nothing is in your favor, and everything is frustrating. It feels like you're moving through quicksand to get to your goals. Everything feels heavy in your forward progress. You can't seem to find the inner energy to take those necessary steps forward.    With our current social climate, everything feels like resistance: pandemic politics, riots, and conspiracy theories. I really believe that this is the year of unparalleled resistance that we are facing on a social level, on an economic level, on a personal level, and on a family level, which is why we can't be surprised as entrepreneurs when resistance comes our way.   If we're going to go through resistance, if we're going to come out strong on the other side, then we need to learn to become resilient. This is the year. 2020 is the year of resistance and resilience. And you can choose to be resilient. Resilience is a choice. It’s a choice you make in the face of resistance. It's choosing to become resilient.   What is Resilience?   Resilience is the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties and spring back into shape. I love that: it's springing back. It's the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties. Another definition is adapting well in the face of adversity, trauma, or other stressors.    Why is Resilience so Important?    Resilience is important because, without it, we will get wiped out, knocked on her butt, and emotionally spent every time we face resistance.  Resilience is what gets us through the other side of adversity quicker and stronger. Again, it's the capacity to bounce back. It's about adapting.   Resilience is like a muscle you have to build. And it becomes stronger with time and with resistance. There is no getting around resistance if we want to grow and become resilient. When we welcome resistance and see it as a good sign that it's coming our way, it means we're in our growth. That means we're moving forward and we're making progress.   If you haven't felt resistance in a long time, you may need to set bigger goals. Because when you want to improve yourself by changing your circumstances, yourself, or your business, you're going to experience resistance. And that’s a good thing.    Why Entrepreneurs Need to Be Resilient   So why do we need resilience in business? Well, first of all, as an entrepreneur, there's no ultimate roadmap to success.    Nobody handed you a manual and said, this is what it looks like to work for yourself. We're all just stumbling around in the dark, stubbing our toes, and writing books about how not to stub our toes in the dark. That's being an entrepreneur.    But we need to be able to have resilience when we're figuring things out, not turning away in defeat and saying, this isn't working for me. Resilience is how we move through resistance. Resilience is the key to our growth.   And the truth is for us as business builders and entrepreneurs, with setbacks and failures and adversity, it’s not a matter of ‘if’ but ‘when’ you will experience some setbacks and frustration.   As you are out there serving people through your online social media platforms, you need to be resilient. Especially in today's day and age. I've recently been watching some people with huge platforms and I genuinely have so much empathy. And I feel for them, because you need to be resilient at that level. I was saying in my Facebook community today, that visibility and vulnerability are not different things. They're the same. Which is why sometimes putting ourselves out there on social media is so terrifying because visibility is vulnerability and we need to be resilient.    If you're going to be putting yourself out there, if you're going to be making offers, if you're making it your mission to change lives, you have to be resilient. You have to be resilient because you're going to have setbacks, frustrations, and disappointment along the way.   Characteristics of Being Resilient   I’ve found what I think are two characteristics of a resilient person. The first is to be gritty. You have to find your grit. Grit means you have a firmness of character and indomitable spirit. Resistance is an opportunity for you to show your firmness of character, your indomitable spirit, and your grit.   Secondly, you need “pluck.” No, not like plucking feathers. It's actually a noun that means to be spirited and determined. You need to be courageous and determined if you want to be resilient and be able to bounce back from adversity. You get knocked on your butt and you get back up. That's resilience. Resilience is where perseverance and passion meet for your long term goals.   If you are persistent, you will get it. If you are consistent, you will keep it. --Harvey MacKay   I love this quote. And when I think of persistence, I think persistence and resilience are very similar. But when I think of resilience, that's what I think of, for example, when a sand storm hits and everything hurts as that sand pelts you. And you’re putting your head down and really channeling your grit and your firmness of character. You're determined and spirited and you have courage to take one step at a time and keep going.   6 C’s of Building Your Resiliency   I believe there are common themes or things that we need in order to build resilience. I'm calling them “The 6 C’s of Building Resilience.”      Courage     The first “C” is “Courage.” What I've been telling people lately is that courage is doing the hard thing, even when. I often see business owners doing the hard things until it gets too hard, until it's so much that’s required of them, until it's too far out of their comfort zone, and until it seems impossible. And when it feels too hard or gets uncomfortable, they give up.    I believe courage is choosing to do the hard things, even when. Even when you're going through hardship, even when you're going through trial, even when someone's sick, even when you’re sick, even when you're dealing with adversity and trauma and stressors left and right. Remember: this is about becoming resilient.      Choice     The second ‘C’ is the “Choice” in how we see our circumstances.    If you want to really build your resilient muscle, you need to start viewing circumstances as just that: neutral circumstances. The circumstances are neutral, but what’s important is the meaning we give to those circumstances.    Choosing to think that this is happening ‘for you’ and not ‘to you.’ If you think it’s happening to you, you're putting on the victim hat and it puts you in a state of helplessness. Seeing that it’s happening ‘for you’ allows you to see how this is for your good and how this is about building your strength   It's about your choice of outlook. How are you choosing to look at the circumstance? Because how you look at the circumstance, determines the outcome.     Curiosity     The third “C” is Curiosity. You need curiosity in order to build resilience. And curiosity is the best thing in the world because when you see circumstances as neutral, you can move into a place of curiosity where you can start asking questions. What can I learn from this? How does this make me a better leader? How does this make me a better spouse, a better friend, a better family member, better business owner?    When we get curious, we start finding answers. The best thing about curiosity is it forces our brains to start looking for the good, even in the middle of adversity, trauma, and stressors.   When we are curious, when we start asking open ended questions, we start seeing how this current situation is for our good.     Compassion     The fourth ‘C’ is Compassion. I can't say this enough, having self compassion means allowing and addressing your feelings in the midst of adversity and trauma. I think it's really important not just to ignore your feelings. You can’t just ignore them, stuff them down, and try to power through to the other side. That's not healthy.    This is an area I've really worked on my own self awareness. Self-compassion is not having shame around your feelings that may come up around the adversity and the trauma that comes with life and building a business. The fact that growth and resistance feels hard and it’s stressful.   Give yourself compassion to grieve, feel, process, be in your body, address things, and then start moving.    If you’re going through adversity, if you’re going through trauma and stressors, you're allowed to have feelings. I don't know if you needed a permission slip today, but I'm giving you one. You're allowed to have feelings, give yourself compassion and grace to feel them, process them.     Commitment     Next up is Commitment. If you want to be someone of resilience, you've got to have unshakeable determination for your long term goals. That’s what commitment is: the unshakeable determination for your long term goals. Commitment still moves forward, even when it's hard. Not: until it's hard. Commitment says, “I'm in this. Even when it's hard, even when it's not fun anymore.”      Conviction     The sixth ‘C’ is Conviction. It's an unshakable belief in your outcome.    Conviction is the unshakable belief that you are going to reach your long term goal. You were going to get there. Conviction is about trusting the process, even when it's hard, even when it's slow, even when it's frustrating, even when you're in a season where it feels like nothing is working for you and everything seems to be working against you.    But again, you have the choice to look at how you want to see your circumstances and how you want to perceive that.   Conclusion on Becoming Resilient   We covered a lot of ground on becoming resilient and why it’s important for entrepreneurs and for anyone wanting to have personal development and growth.    If you want to be resilient, if you want to have the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties and spring back into shape, you gotta have grit and pluck and you need to really hone in on your “six C’s.”   This is the year for you to learn how to be resilient. I know it's hard. I know firsthand my, my own personal story of resistance and resilience, which is actually going to be released in a bonus episode because I think it would serve you to hear my own story of moving through massive resistance in my life and how I became more resilient and how that equipped me to be a better business owner, a better wife, a better friend. “It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all – in which case, you fail by default ” — J.K. Rowling What if we lived in a world where we not only pushed past our FEAR of failure? What if we embraced it as a way of learning and developing ourselves? So, how can we get rid of this fear of failure, learn from our failure and start living our lives? 1. STOP SEEING FAILURE AS A MEASURE OF YOUR SELF-WORTH. Failing can often lead to frustration or sadness. Perhaps you anticipated success or feel embarrassed that the situation didn't pan out; however, failure is not a measure of your worth or value as a person! Often your harshest critic is yourself. Try seeing that self-worth through your ability to keep trying and keep going than giving up.  2. FOCUS ON THE GOOD THINGS.  After failure, you may feel horrendous about yourself. But in truth, everyone has something unique to them that they do well! Use what you do well to your advantage in the future. Whilst important to improve things about yourself, it's also important to keep those good things strong. Avoid overly negative thinking by focusing on the positive aspects of yourself and your life. Write a list of 10 things you are good at – big or small!  3. USE FAILURE AS INSPIRATION.  As I said before, my failure pushed me to work even harder, and gave me the motivation to push myself further. Use each mistake to build strength and courage. By embracing failure, you will become more comfortable with it as a part of your life and work.When you reflect on that in a week, month, or year from now, you may feel stronger for having faced your failures. 4. BE RESILIENT.  Have that bounce back ability (I'm sure that's a football term haha). Being resilient means the ability to bounce back from failure. You might feel depressed or upset with yourself. You may feel like giving up, but with resilience, you look for the positives, you look on the brighter side. Have a recipe for optimism- strive to do better, be confident – believe in yourself and creativity – and have a plan for how to improve! So, begin to enjoy the failure. Enjoy what it brings you.  If you have guts, resilience, initiative and tenacity you will see an incredible progress in your mind frame if and when you do feel that failure.

This amazing woman could be forgiven for rejecting the very notion of optimism. At 12 years old, Stacey Copas had a devastating swimming pool accident that left her a quadriplegic, forever dependent on a wheelchair. Though this unquestionably has changed the course of her life, Stacey has used her life experience and personal philosophies to become one of Australia's leading keynote speaker and facilitator on resilience and turning adversity into an asset. Her first book “How to Be Resilient”  was published in 2015 and has been featured by numerous media outlets. Stacey is an Ambassador for the Layne Beachley Foundation Aim for the Stars and donates a percentage of her speaker fees and from the sale of each book to support the foundation. She shares her story and simple, tangible lessons on The Politics of Optimism.  In this podcast you will learn about: How do you define true optimism? At times I’ve been embarrassed to speak spanish.   I’ve worked in the hospitality industry for close to 18 years and at times haven’t spoken spanish to spanish speaking guests on purpose. Because I thought they would try to ask for more and make me work more. Looking back it’s a decision I have regretted.   Dominican people that I have met have been warm and caring for the most part. The food and music is fun and lively. The women are incredible looking. Yet I don’t identify myself with the dominican people or environment I’ve grown up in. I look at myself as a kind of black sheep in that circle. I identify myself as a combination. The product of my environment and today an amalgamation of my interests. I don’t listen to spanish radio. I like dancehall music. I’m not very familiar with merengue or bachata. Seems I have stereotypes of what being Dominican actually is. What is an american? What is a jamaican or a russian? Aren’t we all combinations of something or another?   I should look forward to opportunities to speak with other spanish speakers. Slang or not, it would improve my own language. I’ve had an app for years now, which translates english into spanish. I have used it with the intention to improve. I would rather get better at speaking spanish than learn another language right now.   My mother said once, it’s sad when people do not know their own language. I agree, but I’m enabling not improving myself in that area.   I have yet to date a dominican woman. I’m open to it. Not on my bucket list. I take it where I can get it. Still don’t want to have children.   I loved growing up in washington heights during the 80s and 90s. It was about 70% safe. 30% dangerous. I’ve met great people there, and have had many great times. My aunt and uncle still live in the area. I do become nostalgic as I visit. I would walk from 168th street to 183rd street religiously. I lived on 183rd st and worked at Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital Complex. I worked specifically in the Psychiatric building. It all comes full circle.   I haven’t visited the dominican republic in over 20 years. Others tell me it's beautiful, but dangerous. Bribery, corrupt cops. Warnings to not wear your nicest stuff when your out and about. I would like to discover my roots. I’d like to make my way there and check out the country. Add that to the bucket list. Conflicting stereotypes or fear shouldn’t stop me from discovering my rich heritage. I love being Dominican and shocking people when I tell them where I’m from. It’s the same with my age. I don’t totally negate where I’m from. If it wasn’t for that I wouldn't be who I am today. I guess the conflict comes in I’m not being enough of what I’ve seen other dominicans be in my life, in my circle, my tiny world view. But why do I have to be that way? Why can I just be me? I love myself. I love where I’ve come from and where I’m going.   Tough times don't last, tough people do!   Be Resilient! Be Resilient A lot of people expect you to fail! One of the things you have to overcome early on in your career is your emotions. Something that may be hard to understand fully, but your closest friends and even family don’t really understand what its like to be an entrepreneur. So their most natural instinct is to criticize you. Don’t take it personal. They just don't know/understand the root of why you're doing what you're doing. Look At The Root When you understand the root of a problem, you're not upset with what comes out of the solution. Whenever you find a problem, you’ll never go wrong if you look at the sub level of the situation. If you do that, you will be able to be more resilient. Do Not be Afraid of a No Entrepreneurs are always hearing the word No! Do something random throughout your day to get a yes. While talking to your significant other, friend, or family member; ask them a question just so you can get a yes. It may not be a huge victory but it’s better than to consistently hear the word no. Once you get over the fear of hearing no, you’ll be more successful. When pitching your business understand that even though you have a great product or even an idea, you will still hear the word no. It hurts, but the thing you can not do is quit! Regardless of who says it and how many times you hear. Think 5 Steps Ahead Live partially in the future. Most days Andrew Effiong is thinking 5 years or at least 5 steps ahead. If he’s able to understand the outcome of a solution, he’s able to quickly think on his feet and react appropriately to solve the solution, because he’s already thought of it in his head.
