Have you ever worked under a leader whose very presence seemed to darken the room? Dr. Rickardo Bodden joins us to shed light on the shadowy subject of toxic leadership and the havoc it wreaks on organizational morale. Our in-depth conversation with this accomplished leadership consultant and author takes us through the landscape of narcissistic behaviors, the silent crisis of toxic followership, and the devastating turnover rates that often cry out for intervention. The narrative takes a sensitive turn as we confront the cultural chains of toxic masculinity and the concept of emotional incarceration. Dr. Bodden, drawing on his military background, shares the critical balance between competition and cooperation for team success. We're also taken on a journey to Turkey, where a soldier's battle against personal demons illustrates the stark reality of male suicide and the life-changing power of vulnerability and communication. Finally, we challenge the perception of followership and underscore its significance in any successful organization; stressing the need for followers to hold leaders accountable, and bravely confront destructive behaviors. In navigating the toxic triangle that enables the rise of corrupt leaders, we touch upon the consequences of unchecked power and the need for self-awareness. Dr. Bodden leaves us with an empowering message: personal growth and moral fortitude are indispensable in cultivating a climate of honor and integrity in leadership. Leadership books have become a dime-a-dozen. But books that combine rigorous academic research, boots-on-the-ground leadership experience, and an understanding of scripture and church and ministry dynamics…well, those books are rare indeed. But that's what we have in a new book called “End The Reign of Pain: Identifying and Treating Toxic Leadership.” In this book, by Dr. Rickardo Bodden unpacks what toxic leadership is, what causes it, and how toxic leaders can de-tox and how churches and other organizations can keep themselves from becoming an incubator for toxic leaders. Rickardo Bodden is a pastor in the Washington, D.C., area, is a retired Air Force officer, and holds a doctorate in strategic leadership. His previous book is “Leadership in the Age of Narcissism.” By the way, I hope you will stay tuned to the end of the program. Rikkardo Bodden's book is our donor premium for the month of March, and at the close of the show I'll share with you how you can get a copy of Dr. Bodden's book for yourself. For how, though, I hope you enjoy my conversation with Dr. Rikkardo Bodden. INTERVIEW Thanks for hanging out with me to hear my conversation with Rikkardo Bodden. As I mentioned at the top of the program, we'd like to put a copy of his book, “End The Reign of Pain: Identifying and Treating Toxic Leadership,” in your hands. Its our thank-you gift for the month of March to anyone who gives a financial gift to MinistryWatch. To make a gift, just go to MinistryWatch.com and hit the DONATE button at the top of the page. We get database, technical, editorial, and moral support from Christina Darnell, Kim Roberts, Stephen DuBarry, Casey Sudduth, and others. I hope you'll join me and Natasha Cowden on Friday for our weekly roundup of news. Until then, may God bless you!
Six-foot-four-inch Alonzo Bodden strikes an imposing figure, both on the stage as an internationally recognized comedian and off it. A native of Queens, New York, Bodden moved in the 1990s to Long Beach, California, where he worked in the aviation industry as a mechanic. Since his comedy career took off, Bodden has appeared in numerous films and TV shows. He is a regular on NPR's “Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!”The easy-going linebacker lookalike is deeply rooted in Los Angeles' motorcycle culture. It should come as no surprise that his taste in two wheels leans toward larger, more powerful machines. For example, Bodden currently owns a 2019 BMW K 1600 Grand America and a 2023 Ducati Multistrada Pikes Peak, as well as 2008 BMW R 1200 HP2 Megamoto. In 2010, Bodden crashed his Ducati 1098 during a track day at Buttonwillow Raceway Park near Bakersfield, California. The crash shattered the scaphoid bone in his wrist, requiring multiple surgeries and a bone graft to fix. These days, Bodden sticks mostly to the street. So, we ask: What is it like to ride a motorcycle in a city with one of the densest traffic populations in the country? All our links: https://linktr.ee/driventoridepodcastBusiness Inquiries: hello@driventoridepodcast.com Connect with Us:Website: www.driventoridepodcast.comInstagram: www.Instagram.com/driventoridepodcastFacebook: www.facebook.com/driventorideEmail:hello@driventoridepodcast.com
