Quick Tip #51 Say What You Need To Say

When Starbucks messes up your order, do you go back to the store to let them know and ask for what you actually ordered? How about when your boss assigns you yet another project on top of all your other work because they know you're always reliable? Do you speak up for yourself and say "Hey, I'm a bit overwhelmed is there a way I can get some more support?" Or do you just smile, nod, and do the work? What do you do when you start to notice that you've been doing way more housework than your roommate? Do you say what you need to say and have tough conversations? Or is that a struggle for you? If you've been biting your tongue, holding back, or letting things slide to keep the peace, today's #QuickTip is an invitation to say what you need to say. It's one of the best ways to build your self-trust, deepen your relationships and honor your voice. You know-- the chronically overwhelmed bunch that constantly ignores how we're feeling so that we can slap on a smile, and try to be strong all while wearily saying "I got this"? If this sounds familiar, then it might be time to ditch the to-do list and honor your bandwidth. In today's episode, we're answering one huge question--"do I have the mental, physical and emotional capacity to add yet another damn thang to my plate?" It's a scary question for us #GoalGetters to answer because we love doing the work. But what happens if you just don't have the bandwidth right now? Picture this--You're at your desk getting hella work done. Your coffee is strong, you have some lo-fi beats playing in the background and your favorite candle is quietly flickering. You're operating in your zone of genius and you love it. As you're busy doing your thang, a thought pops up in your head--"shouldn't I be documenting this for Instagram? You kinda dismiss the thought because you're focused and enjoying the work. But the thought pops up again--Shouldn't I stop and create a Reel right quick?" And just like that the pressure sets in-- the pressure to always show up on Instagram no matter what. I used to stop what I was doing to get my Instagram on, but it was so hard to get back into my creative groove. So you know what I started doing? Only documenting or creating for social media when I felt inspired too. Algorithm be damned.  And guess what it's been a total game changer! In today's quick tip, we're talking about focusing on the deep work + how to not always bend to the pressure to"show up" and constantly churning out content for Instagram. This is my one chance to get it right/ make a million bucks/ revamp my career/ have my big break/ be successful/ etc."Now I get it-- your goals are big, and the stakes to make them happen are even bigger. So it's only natural that you want this leap of faith to be an instant success. When you launch, you want to reach a legion of fans. When you submit your book to literary agents, you want them to sign you and give you a contract on the first try.You want a ton of clients, downloads, subscribers, and money. And listen, honey, I don't blame you, but what happens when it doesn't work out like that? When you launch, and you only get two clients or a handful of downloads? Well, the tendency for most of us #GoalGetters is to give the hell up. We hate "failure" with a passion and we'll do anything in our power to avoid it. But what if it didn't have to go down like that? What would it look like for you to release yourself from all that pressure? How would it feel to give yourself some space to experiment and play with your goals and not make them the end all be all? In today's episode, we're taking it back to middle school and we're figuring out how to get a little bit more scientific with our goals and dreams. How to look at failure and success as an experiment so that we can keep going even after facing setbacks. Nothing terrible happened; it's just that I've had the most profound desire to be still, be present, and slow down.  Now don't get me wrong, I love rolling up my sleeves and doing the work just like the next #GoalGetter, but recently, I've wanted nothing more than to just be. Be human. Be still. Be quiet. Have fun. Get rest. Watch movies, bake cookies, and love on my family and friends. Or do you hop on Google and start devouring every single article you can find to help you come up with an answer? Or are you more of a-- sign-up for every course, masterclass, or training-- type of person? Why do you think you do that? Well, I think I have an answer because I just did all of that recently. One reason that you keep looking to everybody else for guidance is that you're too afraid of the answer that's right there inside of you. You know the answer I'm talking about. The one that requires you to show up more, enforce your boundaries, take a leap of faith, and ask for more. We love saying, "I don't know what to do," when the truth of the matter is that often we know exactly what to do, but we're afraid to even go there because we've failed before. We don't trust that we can make good decisions, so we hope some person, place, or thing can make it for us. In today's episode, we're exploring the affirmation-- "I know what to do, and I trust myself." The work that you put out into the world is super powerful:it inspiresmotivatesteacheshealsand entertainsYour work makes a huge impact on your audience's lives, and while liking and sharing is a great way to show love, some of your superfans wish there was a way to be a major blessing back. It's by creating opportunities for your people to pay you. Whether it's from a merch line, workshops, e-books, mini-courses, or masterclasses, etc. Your audience wants to pay you for your work. Why? Well, because consuming constant free content starts to create a lopsided relationship with your audience. You're the one always giving, and they would love to even the playing field by being able to give back to you by paying for your work. Your job is to create a way for them to do it. In today's Quick Tip, I'm sharing why all artists, creatives, content creators, etc., need to start creating paid offers and why you're audience can't wait for you to do it! Maybe that's an internal hint that it's time to start looking for a better job. Or do you want to be surrounded by more beauty? Then that sounds like an invitation to treat yourself to some flowers or new perfume. Our bodies are always trying to lead us to our next best steps. Well, you better step your boundary game. Are you called to rest more, have fun, or be still? "Should I go up for that promotion?""Is it time to move on and start all over?""Do you think moving across the country is a good idea?"Sometimes when we're facing a huge, potentially life-changing decision, we have the tendency to want to check in with our people. I get it. It's totally natural to want to get some guidance from your loved ones when trying to figure out your next best steps. But sometimes, we are so quick to jump to hear what momma and 'nem think that we miss the opportunity to check within and hear our own thoughts. Before we've let the newness of the idea settle in, we've already opened ourselves to other folks' opinions, interpretations and projections. And folks mean well, but sometimes their input can be the very thing that stops us from chasing our dreams. What if we got into the habit of spending some time alone with our own thoughts before sharing them with the world? Maybe a weekend staycation at a cute boutique hotel to clear your mind? Or a solo date to the library so you can sit down and etch everything out in your favorite journal? In today's quick tip, we're talking about the power of doing it alone and being still. Not forever and always, but right as your approaching your big fork in the road. I first noticed it way back in March. It started off small; at first, I was binging way more tv than usual. Then I slowly stopped journaling. Silence? I hated it! I needed noise ALL THE TIME! I became even more addicted to my phone and social media. Seriously my scroll game was on ten. I could feel my spirit asking me to be still and go within, but I refused. Instead, I chose to run, distract myself, and shut down. Why? Well, because I felt that a significant shift was rolling its way into my life. Those BIG questions kept popping up in my head. You know the ones:What's next? Are you happy? What happened to your dream? Are you still on the right path?Is there more?Is this enough?Yeah, those big babies! Now, usually, I am more than happy to do a deep dive into those soul-burning questions. I've always been super introspective. But this time? Not so much!  I wasn't having any of it. I was trying my hardest to run away from myself because I knew deep down inside God was calling me to step out (yet again) of my very plush comfort zone. Running long distances has never been my forte, honey. I got EXHAUSTED. So I surrendered. I finally silenced all the noise and came face to face with the very person I was trying to run away from, me.And so I answered those questions, and basically, I'm at a point in my life where I know it's time to get uncomfortable again and get back aligned with my dreams and goals. And you know what happens when you step outta that comfort zone, right? Well, you might have to quit, pivot, or have tough conversations. Leaving the comfort zones invites challenges, sacrifices, and re-routing. Yep, I was trying my hardest to avoid the very things that are crucial to my growth and calling. So I'm not running anymore, and today I invite you to retire your running shoes too. Topics Discussed in today's episode:How to determine if you're exhibiting avoidant behaviorWhy avoidance feels like its helping and why its notGetting down to the bottom of what and why you're avoidingHow to work up the courage to face yourself with graceTips for reconnecting with yourselfTranscripts of this episode is available in the show notes. Of course, you want your followers to click, like, subscribe and purchase every single thing you've worked so hard on. So you do just that; you list every link possible in your link in bio. But what if "link stuffing" is the very reason why your followers aren't taking action? That by the time they sift through every link you've ever created, they are tired af!
