On this week's episode Jess & Sam share about the lost art of single tasking. Constantly multi-tasking has become our norm, and it takes away from the quality and appreciation from each individual task. There is also a point in the episode where Sam gets really distracted as Jess mutes herself and yells at her kids, and instead of editing that part out, we decided to keep it in to show the beauty of #reallife. Self-Care Dare: This week, stimulate your mind for 15 to 20 minutes every day. Read, write, do puzzles - whatever you need to get those neurons firing. Jess's Feel Good Tip of the Week: Once per week, try and cook dinner completely undistracted.

Maintaining focus and productivity is essential in today's fast-paced world, especially for high-intensity roles. In this podcast, Rob Broadhead and Michael Meloche of Develpreneur share their insights on mastering focus and productivity. Let's dive into their expert advice on improving your workflow and achieving outstanding results. Tackling the Challenge of Focus and Productivity Rob and Michael start the discussion by addressing a common struggle: managing the overwhelming influx of tasks and information. They highlight that our brains aren't designed to juggle multiple complex tasks simultaneously. Instead, focusing on one task at a time often yields better results. Bruce Lee's quote about adaptability serves as a reminder that while some may thrive on multitasking, most people benefit from concentrated focus. The Power of Single-Tasking for Enhanced Productivity A key point is that multitasking is often a productivity myth, especially in demanding roles. Rob and Michael argue that shifting between tasks can dilute your attention and affect the quality of your work. For improved productivity, it's crucial to adopt a single-tasking approach. This means dedicating yourself to one task at a time, which can lead to higher efficiency and better outcomes. Combatting Distractions to Boost Focus and Productivity Distractions like meetings and constant interruptions can severely impact productivity. Rob shares his experiences with back-to-back meetings and the challenges of processing information effectively. His advice includes scheduling breaks between meetings and setting aside uninterrupted blocks of time for focused work. This method helps maintain clarity and enhances overall productivity. Leveraging Structured Work Blocks for Maximum Efficiency Rob and Michael introduced working in structured time blocks, such as using the Pomodoro Technique. They suggest starting with shorter focus periods, like 15 to 30 minutes, to tackle tasks more effectively. You can stay productive and avoid burnout by working intensely for brief periods. Breaking down larger tasks into smaller chunks can also improve focus and efficiency. Overcoming Procrastination: Prioritize for Success Another crucial insight is the value of prioritizing tasks, particularly those you find challenging or unpleasant. Michael recommends tackling these tasks first to set a positive tone for the rest of the day. Addressing difficult and complex tasks early can reduce procrastination and enhance overall productivity. Creating a Productive Environment The podcast also explores how your environment impacts focus and productivity. Rob and Michael advise minimizing distractions like background noise or unnecessary meetings. They emphasize the importance of a workspace that supports concentration, including turning off notifications and using productivity tools. Mastering Time Management for Improved Productivity Finally, Rob and Michael discuss effective time management strategies. They recommend batching similar tasks together and scheduling specific times for different activities to avoid constant context switching. This approach helps you stay organized and focused, leading to better productivity. Final Takeaways for Improved Focus and Productivity In conclusion, boosting your focus and productivity involves a strategic approach to task management, minimizing distractions, and adopting effective time management practices. Focusing on one task at a time, prioritizing challenging tasks, and creating a conducive work environment can significantly enhance your productivity and achieve remarkable results. Like the Fall leaves that blow all over our yards, we can often get blown around by our thoughts.Have you ever been looking for the answer to something, and you say to yourself, “I'm just going to look this up real quick on the Google”... and before you know it, you've gone down some sort of rabbit hole that now has you scrolling on some social media site — and you're left wondering, “How did I get here?” You started to kind of follow those “blowing leaves” wherever they were going, and in the process you were just being taken wherever that “wind” blew you. Instead of setting your sail and directing and staying the course for what you intended, you were just getting blown all over the damn place. Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about creating and showing up with focused energy and sustained effort. So instead of trying to “multi-task” a bunch of stuff, we approach things with intentional direction and purpose. When we train ourselves to “single-task” and stick to one thing at a time until it's fully accomplished, we experience a sense of reward. This is also applicable when it comes to the transformation process, change work or personal development. If we encounter steps that feel overwhelming, breaking them down into manageable focused tasks can be wicked helpful - to both us and our nervous system.Whether you're creating a new habit or breaking an old one, working on some healing or spiritual growth - there's something super powerful about focused energy and sustained effort and good news is, we can choose that path on our journey of change!KK's Takeaways:• Using A Leaf Blower + Environmentalism (05:48)• Single Tasking, Distractions, + Focus (09:50)• Taking Small Steps Towards Personal Growth (14:13)• Habit Formation + Personal Growth (20:31)• Sustained Focus (24:39)• Mindfulness, Meditation, + Personal Growth (29:03)Karen Kenney is a certified Spiritual Mentor, Hypnotist, Integrative Change Worker and a Life Coach. But today I just wanna share my thoughts on multitasking and how it doesn't help anyone and how it's so much better if we can focus on one thing at a time. The Power of Single Tasking - Matthew KellyGet Matthew's 60 Second Wisdom delivered to your inbox: https://www.matthewkelly.com/subscribeVideo Transcript:“The fastest way to do many things is to do them one at a time. The ability to focus for extended periods of time is a very powerful skill, and one that is become increasingly rare in our society. People who are able to focus on one thing at a time have a major advantage in a world crippled by multi-tasking. Single-tasking is a skill worth nurturing. The power of single-tasking is that it forces us to decide what matters most and give it priority. This unleashes positive effects on every area of our lives. Here are some of the benefits of single-tasking. People who focus on one task at a time are happier, less anxious, more productive, have more energy and enthusiasm, are more fulfilled, less stressed, more creative, more disciplined, have longer attention spans, are better communicators, and they have better relationships. What exactly is single-tasking? The practice of dedicating oneself to a given task and minimizing potential interruptions and distractions for the appropriate period of time. Multi-tasking is ruining our brains, destroying our lives, and undermining our relationships. Single-tasking is the key to doing your best work, improving your relationships, and eliminating much of the stress and anxiety from your life. Multi-tasking is a temptation and a myth. The busier you are, the more you have to do, the more you should employ single-tasking. Try doing one thing at a time, through to completion. You'll be amazed just how powerful this simple principle is. Society has ingrained multi-tasking into our identities as women, but in this episode, I invite you to close the tabs. I'm sharing what I've learned since starting the work of single tasking, why I know it's worthwhile for you to try it out, and what will happen when you get past the discomfort of increasing your focus. This is a gamechanger, people, so listen in. Get full show notes and more information here: http://www.amylatta.com/116
Are you a multi-talker? Do you feel that you are accomplishing your goals? The brain is wired to do one thing at one time. We are living distracted lives. Do you want to do one thing well or two or more things poorly? We all love saving money, getting deals, and discovering treasures for free. But there are some items that no matter how free or inexpensive we don't want to bring into our homes. What are they? Find out today! Goddess Gardener, Cynthia Brian states, “my favorite way of birthing new vegetation is through propagation. Many of the specimens in my garden have been slips, cuttings, seeds, divisions, roots, bulbs, or pinches from my mom's, sibling's, or friend's gardens. “A garden is to share and there is nothing more satisfying than growing floras derived from a beloved garden. Cynthia will tell you how to do this.

Single tasking vs. multitasking? With multitasking, the danger is spreading yourself too thin and draining your energy and focus. Hear insights about: Why we're all prone to spreading ourselves too thin and trying to focus on too many things at once Why single tasking is usually the better idea when deciding on single tasking vs. multitasking, and why single tasking gives you focus and helps you be more present How “channel surfing”, multitasking or jumping from activity to activity, creates stress and saps energy Why giving yourself time to pause and reflect each morning is important for taking control of your day and putting yourself into the right mindset Why channel surfing can harm our relationships and reduce our productivity, and why it's important to learn to watch just one channel at a time Why there are certain situations in which we naturally focus on single tasking vs. multitasking, such as important meetings and working with new clients Why it's easy to fall down into the rabbit hole of distractions, and why our phones and emails are big culprits Why your actions are a reflection of your true priorities, and why you should be intentional about being present in the moment Why it's important to recognize your channel surfing habits and take action to change your behavior and mindset Why you should treat your friends, family and other loved ones the same way you treat your clients Single Tasking vs. Multitasking We live in a chaotic world, and real estate is a hectic industry, so it can be incredibly easy to fall into the trap of being too distracted. If you're like most of us, you probably have a thousand different things pulling on your attention at any given moment. It can feel stressful and overwhelming! However, you can take control! The key is to focus on single tasking vs. multitasking. Multitasking is like channel surfing: you're flipping from channel to channel but never truly focusing on any of the shows you're jumping through. In this week's solocast episode of the Pursuing Freedom podcast, I want to talk to you about the dangers of multitasking and the benefits of single tasking. When you focus on just one thing at a time, you can be more present, more productive and more energized! The Benefits of Single Tasking vs. Multitasking Here's a hard truth: multitasking doesn't really help you get more things done. If anything, allowing yourself to be pulled in too many directions can drain you of your energy. Instead, focus on single tasking. Don't let your phone or emails distract you. Instead, focus on being present in THIS moment and on the one thing you're doing right now. Not only does this benefit you in your work, it can be a powerful benefit to all the other aspects of your life as well. Your relationships will be stronger, you'll feel more focused and energized, and you'll get more done! There really are so, so many benefits to focusing on one thing at a time, and the people around you will appreciate you for being truly there for them. Avoiding “Channel Surfing” In his book Black Belt of the Mind, Dr. Fred Grosse talks about channel surfing as an analogy for allowing ourselves to be distracted by a million little things. Imagine that all of the different aspects of your life are individual channels on a TV. When you flip back and forth between channels, you aren't really getting anything from any of them. It's only when you pick a channel and focus on it that you can really get into the show and follow with what's going on. That's exactly what life is like! When you should be focusing on the “Family Channel” and spending time with your family, don't touch the remote! If you're watching “Friends”, stop checking your messages and emails. Be present in the moment! There's a sense of calm and organization you get when you are present and focused, and it can help you maintain your energy level, mood and mindset far better than “channel surfing.” About Erin Bradley Erin Bradley is a speaker and business coach, bestselling author, and host of the real estate podcast Pursuing Freedom. Are you a great multitasker? Well, sorry to tell you that you are probably more productive as a single-tasker. You may learn to become a multitasker, but your kids will outshine you every time in that arena. Learn why in this episode. And don't forget the coffee segment! Stay tuned!
I have quickly learned that being busy isn't, or at least shouldn't be, a badge of honor because I quickly went from juggling to burnt out & drowning. The idea of multitasking became more like an addiction, and like most addictions, it wasn't long before I saw how bad it really was for me — I wasn't actually getting that much done & it was more detrimental than it was helpful. So what do I instead? I have spent the past YEAR — yes, year! — training myself on how to “single-task” and more importantly, how to quiet anything that tries to pull my focus on the task at hand. While I haven't perfected this new lifestyle by any stretch of the imagination — hello, I'm still a mom! — I have picked up some pretty useful hacks & habits, and that's what I want to dive into today. I want to share with you some of my single-tasking tricks & how they've helped me step up my productivity. Mentioned Techniques: • Thought Purging • Prioritizing & Planning • Batching & Single Tasking Mentioned Tools: • Trello from brain dumping and big picture, macro planning • Powersheets for intentional & thoughtful goal planning from month to month & week to week. • Undated Weekly Planner Pad for appointments & scheduling week to week • Tomato One Pomodoro Timer App for more efficient time management & batching.
