On this episode, TC Cook invites the remarkable Rosaria Butterfield for a candid and compelling conversation rooted in transformation, faith, and grace.Rosaria's story is as uncommon as it is powerful. She earned her Ph.D. in English Literature from Ohio State University and became a tenured professor of English and Women's Studies at Syracuse University, where her academic focus centered on critical and queer theory. A feminist and lesbian activist in her late twenties and early thirties, Rosaria advocated for LGBTQ+ equality—even co-authoring her university's same-sex partnership policy.Everything changed in 1999. What began as critical engagement with Christian thinkers and organizations, including Promise Keepers, led her into a redemptive friendship with a pastor and his wife. Two years later, after reading the Bible intensively, Rosaria experienced what she calls a “train‑wreck” conversion—leaving academia, her identity, and everything she knew behind.Today, she's a homeowner in North Carolina, married to Reformed Presbyterian pastor Kent Butterfield, and mothering her children through homeschooling. She's also a prolific author and speaker, known for her incisive theological insight and emphasis on Christian hospitality.Rosaria's BooksThe Secret Thoughts of an Unlikely Convert (2012) – Her riveting memoir of redemptiondesiringgod.org+8en.wikipedia.org+8haventoday.org+8desiringgod.org+14rosariabutterfield.com+14en.wikipedia.org+14Openness Unhindered (2015) – An exploration of faith, identity, and scripture in a post-Obergefell worldrosariabutterfield.com+7rosariabutterfield.com+7thegospelcoalition.org+7The Gospel Comes with a House Key (2018) – Advocates for “radically ordinary” hospitality as missionthegospelcoalition.org+4en.wikipedia.org+4christreformed.org+4Five Lies of Our Anti‑Christian Age (2023) – A timely critique of secular culture's false narrativeschristreformed.org+3en.wikipedia.org+3rosariabutterfield.com+3In this heartfelt conversation, TC and Rosaria dive into:The gut-wrenching costs and blessings of her conversionWhy “house key hospitality” matters in reaching today's worldHer reflections on repentance, identity, and the culture of belongingWisdom for churches engaging LGBTQ+ neighbors without compromising the gospel

Are we on the brink of a post-human world? Host Curtis Chang is joined by author and Good Faith contributor Andy Crouch to delve into what it means to remain truly human in an era of growing AI powers. Together, they explore how followers of Jesus can help shape and adopt artificial intelligence to enhance rather than diminish the Imago Dei. They challenge listeners to exert authority over AI, including resisting the false ways that technology makes relationships appear effortless and frictionless, and instead pursue the more difficult but rewarding vision of genuine human community. This last Sunday, Bria Wolter taught on Luke 13v18-21, where Jesus gives two examples of what the kingdom of God is like: a mustard seed that grows into a tree, and yeast that spreads through dough. From these parables, we learn that the kingdom of God requires trust, but He does the heavy lifting. Our obedience regenerates the soil of our hearts, and the impossible takes place. As we see the kingdom of God expanding around us, may our hearts continue to fall deeper and deeper in love with our King, Jesus. Link to Sermon Guide & Activations: 06.23.24 Sermon Guide

#1 | When The Gospel Comes To Church | 1 Cor. 1:1-9 | Ryan Doughty
In Season 4 Episode 11 we talk about being hospitable to one another and how hospitality is a way of honoring one another. 1 Peter 4:9 says, "Be hospitable to one another without complaint." So, why would hospitality evoke complaints from us? The nature of hospitality is driven by a spirit of generosity - of heart, home, friendship, etc. Oftentimes, it takes effort, time, and energy to welcome someone with open arms into your space. We have to fight against our natural sin tendencies of "I don't want to do that right now." Questions to consider:So, as a couple, how are you doing with regard to hospitality? What is the benefit to your marriage when you practice hospitality?Mentioned in this episode:Register for Forever Marriage LIVE - Friday, March 22 at 6 PM at Lakewood Baptist ChurchRekindle ROMANCE 6 week study on Wednesday nights led by Scott & Dawn (Registration coming soon!)The Gospel Comes with a House Key by Rosaria ButterfieldScripture: Romans 12:10, 1 Peter 4:9, Romans 12:13, 1 Corinthians 11:33, 1 Corinthians 13:5, Romans 15:7
Modern culture is increasingly outspoken against a biblical worldview. Jonathan interviews Dr. Rosaria Butterfield on her newest book Five Lies of Our Anti-Christian Age.In this powerful book, Rosaria Butterfield uses Scripture to confront 5 common lies about sexuality, faith, feminism, gender roles, and modesty often promoted in our secular culture today. Written in the style of a memoir, this book explores Butterfield's personal battle with these lies—interwoven with cultural studies, literary criticism, and theology—to help readers see the beauty in biblical womanhood, marriage, and motherhood.Rosaria Butterfield is an author, pastor's wife, homeschool mom, and former professor of English and women's studies at Syracuse University. She is the author of The Secret Thoughts of an Unlikely Convert; Openness Unhindered; and The Gospel Comes with a House Key.
