ENTANGLEMENT A Historical Fantasy of Almost-Love and Almost-Loss, Art History and Entry-Level Quantum Physics Written by Les Hunter Directed by Christine McBurney Entanglement reimagines the 1925 moment when physicist Erwin Schrödinger discovered quantum mechanics. In this alternate history, Schrödinger's breakthrough in physics (and love) is inspired by art historian Gertrud Bing. Bing and her mentor Aby Warburg famously asserted that all societies develop at a relatively similar and interconnected rate, despite differences of space and time. This theory is spookily similar to the phenomena of quantum entanglement, which holds that two particles, once entangled, move and change at the same moment. Schrödinger made this discovery during a two-and-a-half week sexual spree in the Swiss Alps. Cats may or may not have been killed. Produced in partnership with Radio on the Lake Theatre. Cast John Busser - Erik Cathleen O’Malley - Gabriele Sound Effects Engineers John Watts Victoria Watts Recorded live at Radio on the Lake Studio Theatre in Shaker Heights, Ohio, on November 13, 2019. The Laureate for Irish Fiction, Sebastian Barry, hosts a series of brief conversations with fellow writers asking what is writing? What is its purpose and mystery beyond the pragmatic notions of academia and journalism? In the latest conversation, he speaks with Louise O'Neill. Louise O'Neill was born in West Cork, where she lives and works. Her first novel, Only Ever Yours, was published in 2014 is a satire about society's obsession with how women look and behave. It won several awards including the Bord Gais Energy Irish Book Awards 2014. Her second novel, Asking For it (2015) is a heart-breaking account of a rape and its aftermath in a close-knit Irish community. It was voted Book of the Year at the Irish Books Awards 2015 and spent 52 weeks in the Irish top 10 bestseller list. O' Neill's first novel for adults, Almost Love, was published in March 2018. The Surface Breaks, her feminist re-imagining of The Little Mermaid, followed in May 2018.

This week on End Credits, we're in the mood for love. For our review this week, we've got a New York flavoured rom-com the makes you forget that there's a pandemic outside and that living in Manhattan is expensive, and it's called Almost Love. In the first half of the show though we will deal with the harsh realities of living in a pandemic and its effects on pop culture. This Wednesday, August 12, at 3 pm, Adam A. Donaldson and Candice Lepage will discuss: Re-opening News. Are we getting closer to seeing new movies in the multiplex again? Some people think so! Cineplex is opening more theatres across Canada, and while Tenet seems to be finally ready to open at the end of the month, Mulan is going direct to Disney+ for an extra $30 (?). We'll talk about all the latest movie news, including something called "The Schumacher Cut." REVIEW: Almost Love (2020). Remember just hanging out with friends, and the only concern you had was your love life? Of course, no one does. Pre-COVID bliss is explored in Almost Love, an ensemble romantic comedy about two New York couples on the cusp of having to make or affirm their commitments with their respective partners by answering the question: Is this really the person I want to spend the rest of my life with? Hint: There's a happy ending! End Credits is on CFRU 93.3 fm and cfru.ca Wednesday at 3 pm.

Author and awards-magnet Louise O'Neill joined Alan and Sarah to talk about Enid Blyton's classic series about a fantastical tree that's not nearby, The Magic Faraway Tree. We talked about the Famous Five vs Secret Seven, the comforting repetition of Enid Blyton, updating books for modern audiences, and, seeing as we had two of Ireland's best YA authors in the studio, a lot of talk about writing YA. Then we had a patented Juvenalia digression into Adele's Titanic-themed party, the Met Gala and cultural appropriation. The usual. Louise O'Neill is @oneilllo on Twitter. Her novels Only Ever Yours, Asking For It, Almost Love, and The Surface Breaks are all available now and are all excellent. The stage adaptation of Asking For It is in The Everyman in Cork until June 23rd and in the Abbey Theatre in Dublin from November 9th-24th. Alan is @alan_maguire and Sarah is @griffski. It's basically a type of crowd-funding site that allows you to put your money where your "likes" are; if you like the content I'm making, please consider giving a small amount every month to help fund it.   Louise O'Neill's new book, Almost Love, is out now. Buy it here. Asking For It, the play, is coming to the Abbey Theatre. Details. Louise is on Twitter, so go mad. You can also read Louise's columns in the Irish Examiner – you don't need to pay, but you do need to sign up for an account (it's worth it; they send a handy daily news update which is making me feel 10% more in touch with the world).   Meg Wolitzer's The Wife is amazing. Highly recommend reading it – you can buy it here.    The piece I wrote that got a big backlash which surprised Louise was, actually, my piece on Louise Thompson's Body Positive. And the piece on kids, social media and Snapchat.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

The Beast from the East saw our presenter stranded abroad, while the production team had a glimpse into the lives of those people who "work from home". Determined not to let our listeners down however, Róisín recorded an episode in her bedroom in which she celebrates great female writers ahead of International Women's Day. In this podcast, you'll hear extracts from Olivia O'Leary's Party Animals, Maggie O'Farrell's contribution to Ann O'Donnell's book Mortification, Maeve Binchy's Baby Blue, an entry from Zlata Filipovic's Zlata's Diary and a taster from Louise O'Neill's new book Almost Love. And, stay tuned to the end of the podcast to hear Amanda Palmer's cover of The Cranberries No Need to Argue, in tribute to the late Dolores O'Riordan.
