This week Kris exchanges calling from a phone booth to staggering in with a hangover. From praising the qualities of Jif peanut butter to cursing the six peanut-butter-flavoured whiskeys she had on her Patreon exclusive podcast the night before. Tara, as always, remains sober, but—in a twist—brings quotes! Together they answer questions about which of Kris’s characters they’d sleep with, marry, or date, and what brought them into FF/wlw fiction. For the big recommendations of the week, Kris delivers with the movies Becks and Almost Love, while Tara goes over the moon and back with Honey Girl by Morgan Rogers. If you enjoy this episode, please consider buying Kris & Tara a Ko-fi! ENTANGLEMENT A Historical Fantasy of Almost-Love and Almost-Loss, Art History and Entry-Level Quantum Physics Written by Les Hunter Directed by Christine McBurney Entanglement reimagines the 1925 moment when physicist Erwin Schrödinger discovered quantum mechanics. In this alternate history, Schrödinger's breakthrough in physics (and love) is inspired by art historian Gertrud Bing. Bing and her mentor Aby Warburg famously asserted that all societies develop at a relatively similar and interconnected rate, despite differences of space and time. This theory is spookily similar to the phenomena of quantum entanglement, which holds that two particles, once entangled, move and change at the same moment. Schrödinger made this discovery during a two-and-a-half week sexual spree in the Swiss Alps. Cats may or may not have been killed. Produced in partnership with Radio on the Lake Theatre. Cast John Busser - Erik Cathleen O’Malley - Gabriele Sound Effects Engineers John Watts Victoria Watts Recorded live at Radio on the Lake Studio Theatre in Shaker Heights, Ohio, on November 13, 2019. Almost Love welcomes only the parts of a person that are desirable to us, only the things that are easily accepted. An Altogether Love, one like Jesus offers, crosses cultural boundaries and racial lines. It is a love that is irrational in that it welcomes the person, however they are, because it realizes that God made our welcome possible through Jesus. The Laureate for Irish Fiction, Sebastian Barry, hosts a series of brief conversations with fellow writers asking what is writing? What is its purpose and mystery beyond the pragmatic notions of academia and journalism? In the latest conversation, he speaks with Louise O'Neill. Louise O'Neill was born in West Cork, where she lives and works. Her first novel, Only Ever Yours, was published in 2014 is a satire about society's obsession with how women look and behave. It won several awards including the Bord Gais Energy Irish Book Awards 2014. Her second novel, Asking For it (2015) is a heart-breaking account of a rape and its aftermath in a close-knit Irish community. It was voted Book of the Year at the Irish Books Awards 2015 and spent 52 weeks in the Irish top 10 bestseller list. O' Neill's first novel for adults, Almost Love, was published in March 2018. The Surface Breaks, her feminist re-imagining of The Little Mermaid, followed in May 2018.

This week on End Credits, we're in the mood for love. For our review this week, we've got a New York flavoured rom-com the makes you forget that there's a pandemic outside and that living in Manhattan is expensive, and it's called Almost Love. In the first half of the show though we will deal with the harsh realities of living in a pandemic and its effects on pop culture. This Wednesday, August 12, at 3 pm, Adam A. Donaldson and Candice Lepage will discuss: Re-opening News. Are we getting closer to seeing new movies in the multiplex again? Some people think so! Cineplex is opening more theatres across Canada, and while Tenet seems to be finally ready to open at the end of the month, Mulan is going direct to Disney+ for an extra $30 (?). We'll talk about all the latest movie news, including something called "The Schumacher Cut." REVIEW: Almost Love (2020). Remember just hanging out with friends, and the only concern you had was your love life? Of course, no one does. Pre-COVID bliss is explored in Almost Love, an ensemble romantic comedy about two New York couples on the cusp of having to make or affirm their commitments with their respective partners by answering the question: Is this really the person I want to spend the rest of my life with? Hint: There's a happy ending! End Credits is on CFRU 93.3 fm and cfru.ca Wednesday at 3 pm.
Shira and Ryan discuss the difference in police reform bills plus Actor Scott Evans and Director Mike Doyle stop by to talk about their film Almost Love.
A romantic comedy about a group of friends navigating love, life, and relationships as they reach the mid-point. At the heart of the story is Adam (Scott Evans), a talented painter now stuck ghost painting for successful contemporary artist Ravella Brewer (Patricia Clarkson). He and Marklin (Augustus Prew) are at the five-year mark of their relationship. They don't have kids, they're not married, and are face to face with the existential question "Is that all there is?" Their friend circle is confronting the same question in a whole host of ways: Elizabeth (Kate Walsh), Adam's best friend, is at the 15 year mark of her marriage, ready to bail when she discovers her husband's inappropriate text relationship with a younger woman; friend Cammy (Michelle Buteau) is dating Henry (Colin Donnell), but they never leave the house; Haley (Zoe Chao) is trying to figure out if her feelings for Scott James (Christopher Gray) are maternal or something more. Everyone's a bit of a mess, but at the same time eternally optimistic at finding new ways to make things work. Here's the trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VAwGG1yzdw4

Author and awards-magnet Louise O'Neill joined Alan and Sarah to talk about Enid Blyton's classic series about a fantastical tree that's not nearby, The Magic Faraway Tree. We talked about the Famous Five vs Secret Seven, the comforting repetition of Enid Blyton, updating books for modern audiences, and, seeing as we had two of Ireland's best YA authors in the studio, a lot of talk about writing YA. Then we had a patented Juvenalia digression into Adele's Titanic-themed party, the Met Gala and cultural appropriation. The usual. Louise O'Neill is @oneilllo on Twitter. Her novels Only Ever Yours, Asking For It, Almost Love, and The Surface Breaks are all available now and are all excellent. The stage adaptation of Asking For It is in The Everyman in Cork until June 23rd and in the Abbey Theatre in Dublin from November 9th-24th. Alan is @alan_maguire and Sarah is @griffski. Juvenalia is on all of the social medias, if you search for Juvenalia, you'll find us. Juvenalia original artwork by Dee McDonnell This episode was produced and edited by Brian + Alan
Louise O'Neill has re-imagined the Little Mermaid through a feminist lens for her latest book, moving the action to the Atlantic Ocean off the Irish coast. The Surface Breaks is her second new book in as many months, following on from her third novel, Almost Love, and comes just a few weeks before the stage adaptation of her award-winning second book, Asking for It, debuts at the Everyman Theatre in Cork. She talks to Roisin Ingle about the joy of seeing her book come to life on stage, the trouble with people confusing her writing for works of non-fiction and why she will never be tempted to publish two books in two months again.
