Wonderful cultists, The earliest part of 2024 has been a series of failed rolls that we've been continuing to try to Push, but unfortunately we've not always succeeded. There have been some critical successes as well as fumbles, though. First of all, the inimitable Braydon has, through fel magicks, brought his own new  spawn into the universe. Join us in welcoming Reya (and admire her either on Discord or on our Patreon!) Gilly's also had her own life changes, in the form of having to travel extensively for work this year! She's consequently not able to join us on the regular for the next part of our Berlin campaign, but we're sure you'll join us in wishing her well on her adventures and hoping she can come back soon to play with us! Thus, we have had to make some changes in how we are doing things on our end, at least for the time being. Here's the breakdown: We'll be reducing our release frequency to every two weeks, rather than every week, in order to rebuild a buffer, and rush less with recording and editing. We'll be tweaking our patreon offerings to make our bonus content more accessible.  Beyond The Madness, our post-recording chit-chat show, will soon also be available at the Cult Initiate tier! The Cult Elder and Avatar tiers will continue to have exclusive access to our bonus game-play. This will soon include a second play-through of Alone Against the Static (for any completionists) and The Necropolis (run by Gilly, to help you not miss her too much!). The next adventure released will be The Exhibition of Dread, a spectral one-shot written by Jared Tallis and published by Stars Are Right. Berlin the Wicked City part 2 is currently being recorded and will be released after that, everything progressing smoothly, so get hyped! The idea behind this slowing down is for us to serve you the finest Deep One Steaks instead of mere soggy fishburgers, and to ensure that we can keep putting out the podcasts that you've all been loving. None of this would have been possible without you, and we appreciate the ongoing support that we have had over the years. Onwards and upwards, with many hopeful things on the horizon. Until the Stars are Right again…

00:00 - The Calippo Shots generation. 04:38 - A bit of a saga. 07:21 - Black Widow is an action thriller in the MCU that explores some pretty dark and deep themes surrounding the character. It's a good movie, with extremely visceral action scenes, but it doesn't feel like a “phase 4” film. 19:40 - The solitaire Call of Cthulhu adventure Alone Against the Tide sits somewhere between Alone Against the Flames and Alone Against the Dark; it's a solid challenge, but very approachable, with lots of cosy (?) psychological horror. 32:45 - Our pal Damien Faulkner asks the hardest question we've had to answer: just what are the must have Switch games? 45:43 - Genesis Noir is like an interactive art installation; a monochrome, film noir point and click theme, inspired by the works of Italo Calvino. It's from Feral Cat Den and Fellow Traveller Games, and it's wonderful. 55:07 - Getting Busy with the Knizy, and his latest games! Lost Cities: Roll & Write is from Kosmos, and it's a game that gives the Lost Cities feeling (obviously), but it's more approachable and, importantly, you can play it on a couch. AND we look at Royal Visit from Coiledspring Games and Iello, that has just enough edge and grit to its tug of war gameplay to make it super engaging. All that, and The Kris Turn, with Dan (@ThisDanFrost), Kris (@DigitalStrider), Peter (@XeroXeroXero), and Sam (@MrSamTurner). 00:00 - How you might know if you’re Unbreakable. 04:38 - Burgle Bros 2: The Casino Capers from Tim Fowers, is the sequel to a board game we first talked about on Episode 1 way back in 2016. Playing as a team of criminals on a caper, sneaking about and trying not to cause a commotion, this impressive follow up to the first game has been well worth the wait. 15:42 - Games you'll put in a bag (working title). 18:36 - The puzzle-like, reverse labyrinth board game Bandido from Helvetiq and Coiledspring Games has a small footprint, but what it lacks in size it more than makes up for in quality. 23:05 - The understudy for bread. 29:47 - What the f*** is OUTRIDERS, eh? We find out more about Square Enix’s always online combination of Gears of War and Borderlands, how it relates to Cowboy Bebop, and if it’s really a cover-based shooter if it doesn’t want you to stay in cover? 42:59 - Solo tabletop roleplaying in Chaosium’s Call of Cthulhu, with Alone Against the Dark, a 7+ hour long openworld-ish gamebook of cosmic horror, deadly encounters, and timekeeping. All that, and chocolate bar conspiracies, with Kris (@DigitalStrider), Peter (@XeroXeroXero), Sam (@MrSamTurner), and Mark (@lithiumproject). A big thank you to Mark Robinson for joining us. This episode was recorded on September 12, 2019. Discord server invite link >> Campus Crier October 10th marks the 1 year anniversary of Chaosium’s Greg Stafford passing. And to honor him they are asking people to play a game in his memory in the month of October. To that effect, Chaosium will be releasing a free scenario for each of the main RPGs in their catalog on October 10th (CoC, Runequest, Pendragon, 7th Sea, and HeroQuest). Big updates were announced on Chaosium’s Central Asia game, Children of Fear. Lynne Hardy posted on the Chaosium website that “all the art, maps, and handouts are in progress, and the final stages of editing are almost finished.” She has also re-confirmed the mid-2020 release date. The post also includes sneak previews of the art that will be in the book, and it looks really, really good. Link in the show notes. The new addition of Masks of Nyarlathotep has won at DragonCon this year, bringing home a Dragon Award for Best Science Fiction or Fantasy Miniatures/Collectible Card/Role Playing Game. Congratulations to Chaosium! Chris Spivey took to Twitter on 2nd of September to announce that The Haunted West kickstarter will be going live in October. You might well remember that this is a Weird Western RPG that uses a new system developed in house at Darker Hue. And just like Harlem Unbound it “features people of color as protagonists… [highlighting] the people of color who are often overlooked in stories about the Old West.” https://twitter.com/darker_hue/status/1168529387681173506?s=12 Hypergraphia #2 is now available! Included is Goodcliffe, a short Cthulhu Dark scenario, wherein your players will plumb the depths of a depressingly dismal mine. Contributions from members of the Miskatonic University Podcast, Skype of Cthulhu, Weird Works, and Squamous Studios. The second issue of another Mythos fanzine, Bayt al Azif, has been released on DrivethruRPG. Within you will find: 3 adventures dual-statted for CoC 7 & GUMSHOE An overview of every Cthulhu Mythos RPG release of 2018A review of the history of Masks of NyarlathotepAn interview with Lynne HardyAnd much more! More news from Chaosium as they deal with the fallout of Critical Roll’s Shadow of the Crystal Palace’s detrimental impact on their North American supplier. They have announced that anyone ordering a physical product from them in the month of August will have a choice between a free PDF of Alone Against the Dark, or a $10 coupon if your order was over $20. The nice thing is that offer applies to anyone globally, even those unaffected by the North American shipper. Mysterious Creatures Field Guide by Eli Libson -- This is an amazing book of fantastic fantasy creatures with awesome painted illustrations of each creature. It feels like the Wayne Barlow book of alien creatures. This would be perfect to populate the Dreamlands with these creatures.  Topic This episode we speak with Oscar Rios about his latest KickStarter, The Lovecraft Country Holiday Collection. His love of challenging himself against the harsh conditions of the Canadian wilderness has earned him the nickname “Canada’s Indiana Jones.” Adam is a Royal Canadian Geographical Society Explorer-in-Residence. He’s written extensively about his own adventures, including the bestseller Alone Against the North and his upcoming book, Beyond the Trees, about his recent 4,000-kilometre journey across the Canadian Arctic.
