This week, the jerks over at FREAKQUELS are faced with a film that's so out there and downright weird that even an inappropriately placed Necronomicon couldn't give them the power to review it properly. With their backs against the wall, EJ and Rory placed a call to the boys over at REEL CHRONICLES and they answered just in time to help them properly review the blackest of black sheep sequels, “JASON GOES TO HELL: THE FINAL FRIDAY!” Tune in for the crossover a guy out in Colorado demanded once while intoxicated and on a weird amount of pills, FREAKQUELS MEETS REEL CHRONICLES!
Vi pratar också kort om: Vincent Price, Richard Matheson, Peter Lorre, Jack Nicholson, Boris Karloff, Charles Beaumont, Francis Ford Coppola, H.P Lovecraft, The Case of Charles Dexter Ward, Lon Chaney, Messiah of Evil, The Resurrected, Elisha Cook jr, Yog Sothoth, Cthulhu, Necronomicon, Arkham, Shadow over Innsmouth, Debra Paget, Leo Gordon och Freud. Mycket nöje!
A midnight broadcast from Sentinel Hill reveals a horror so profound that it could shatter our understanding of reality. As Dr. Armitage and Dr. Rice attempt to contain an ancient, cosmic terror—Wilbur Waitley's monstrous offspring—the stakes couldn't be higher. This isn't just a story of myth and madness; it's a warning about the dangerous limits of human curiosity and the terrifying consequences of unleashing forces beyond our comprehension. You'll discover the chilling origins of Wilbur Waitley, born under mysterious and ominous circumstances on Candlemas night 1921, and the dark influence of the ancient Necronomicon. The episode uncovers how a father's forbidden knowledge, a prophecy, and a cursed house set the stage for an apocalyptic event that threatens to open the gates to Yog-Sothoth—an elder cosmic entity. Expect unsettling details about the creature's grotesque form, its supernatural growth, and the power of forbidden ritual. We break down the secret incantations, the mysterious diary of Wilbur, and the terrifying moment when science and the supernatural collide in a fight for the world's soul. This episode matters because it exposes the peril of tampering with ancient cosmic forces—warnings as relevant today as they were in the story's fictional setting. It's perfect for fans of cosmic horror, mystery, and the unsolvable secrets lurking beyond our senses. Whether you're into horror, the occult, or just love unraveling stories of extreme human curiosity, this broadcast will leave you questioning what lies just beyond the veil of our universe.Don't miss this gripping journey into one of the most haunting stories in horror history. It's a masterclass in suspense, myth, and the cosmic unknown that will stay with you long after the final sound fades.

"Kill her if you can, loverboy!"The Horror Bulls crack open the Necronomicon with The Evil Dead (1981), Sam Raimi's feral, low-budget nightmare that turned a cabin in the woods into ground zero for demonic possession. We break down the DIY camera tricks, relentless pacing, and why this scrappy horror film still feels dangerous decades later.

Something isn't right in the cabin. With Evil still missing and the sun seemingly refusing to rise, Rottin' Roger is trying to hold things together and get an episode out for the Deep Cut audience… even if that means letting Walter co-host.Walter insists on discussing one of his favorite horror movie topics — possession.Walter chooses The Shining.Roger chooses Evil Dead. But as the episode goes on, Walter keeps pushing Roger toward something far more dangerous… reading from the Necronomicon.Roger refuses.Until Walter suggests playing a reel-to-reel tape that supposedly contains a brand new outro song for the show.It wasn't just music. And whatever was on that tape may have just changed everything.

In the thrilling conclusion of the RPGBOT.Pulp Cthulhu Actual Play, our heroes discover that Luck points are real, sanity is optional, and jetpacks are — scientifically speaking — extremely explosive plot devices. Bjorn steals the Necronomicon with telekinesis, Murray forgets who he is, everyone falls in love with the villain thanks to eldritch karaoke mind control, and the final boss fight is resolved using the timeless tactical doctrine of: "What if we shot the jetpack?" Featuring heroic sacrifice, catastrophic math, spontaneous dismemberment, and a helicopter extraction that arrives precisely when pulp cinema demands it — this episode delivers the important lesson that Call of Cthulhu isn't about surviving intact. It's about surviving spectacularly. Show Notes The finale opens with table banter and a brief plug for ongoing Pulp Cthulhu play opportunities before the Keeper resets the stage and reviews key mechanics — including luck recovery, spending luck for survival, and sanity system nuances. The players regain luck and receive a reminder of how it can modify rolls, negate damage, or even prevent death — rules that soon prove critical. A sanity check against newly transformed ghast enemies immediately escalates tension. Randall's character loses significant sanity and enters a bout of insanity, gaining amnesia and temporarily forgetting context and equipment while acquiring an "insane talent" that grants unusual resilience to pain. This mechanical disruption reinforces Call of Cthulhu's psychological stakes and introduces roleplay chaos at the outset of combat. Combat begins in the ritual chamber where Scarlet Arachnus attempts to complete her summoning. Gunfire exchanges with the ghasts while Arachnus deflects harm through magic. Randall lands a devastating critical hit on one creature, while Tyler pivots toward objective play — targeting the ritual itself. The Necronomicon becomes the center of the encounter as telekinesis is used to wrest control of the artifact from the villain, disrupting her casting momentum. The encounter spikes in complexity when Arachnus unleashes Siren Song, charming allies and nearly turning the party against itself. Iowa succumbs completely, while Tyler resists. Surrounded and nearly dead, Tyler resorts to a desperate solution — coordinating with Randall's jetpack maneuver. The resulting detonation obliterates Arachnus and the ghasts, collapses magical support sustaining the enemies, and nearly kills the party in the process. Randall survives only by spending luck to avoid certain death. After the blast, the ritual collapses, the remaining threats dissolve, and the survivors secure the artifact. Extraction arrives via helicopter — a fitting pulp cinematic conclusion — as the buried ruins vanish beneath the sand, ensuring their secrets remain hidden. The episode closes with post-session reflections on system feel and character impact, cementing the adventure as a chaotic but successful demonstration of Pulp Cthulhu's tone and mechanics. Key Takeaways Luck mechanics are central survival tools and dramatically influence outcomes Sanity loss meaningfully alters gameplay through narrative and mechanical disruption Insanity effects can produce both hindrance and unexpected advantages Objective-focused play (stealing the artifact) can end encounters faster than damage trading Mind-control effects reinforce Mythos horror stakes beyond physical threats Pulp tone encourages cinematic risk and heroic sacrifice Improvisation and environment use can resolve otherwise lethal encounters Narrative pacing culminates in high-stakes chaos followed by cinematic resolution Actual Play effectively demonstrates mechanics through emergent storytelling The finale showcases how Call of Cthulhu balances horror tension with pulp heroics Welcome to the RPGBOT Podcast. On this episode, I'm kicking off Noirvember with Cast a Deadly Spell (1991). This HBO original film combines film noir, horror, fantasy, comedy and the eldritch tales of the Cthulu mythos. In this timeline of 1948 Los Angeles, magic and mythological creatures are common. Phillip Lovecraft is the detective on a case to find a stolen rare book, the Necronomicon. We continue our deep dive into anti-Dungeons & Dragons moral activist Patricia Pulling, founder of Bothered About Dungeons & Dragons (BADD), how she became an alleged expert on the occult, and the types of groups who were receptive to her declarations of the alleged hazardous effects of tabletop roleplaying games. Topics discussed include: The Devil's time hosting Family Feud, the logistics of books bound in human skin, police find demonic excuses to spend taxpayer money (and we share a few of our own ideas), and how computers may have fulfilled the prophecies of the Book of Revelation. For an amazing history of the Necronomicon, check out, Joseph P. What happens when a work of fiction becomes a real grimoire? In this episode, we explore The Demons of the Necronomicon, H. P. Lovecraft's imagined pantheon of cosmic entities and their extraordinary transformation into living figures within modern occultism. Drawing on peer-reviewed research, we trace how Cthulhu, Yog-Sothoth, and Nyarlathotep escaped the pages of pulp horror to become objects of ritual, devotion, and philosophical speculation. From Kenneth Grant's Typhonian Thelema to chaos magic's postmodern experiments, this video unveils how fiction, faith, and imagination converge in the making of contemporary demonology.CONNECT & SUPPORT

Grab your chainsaws, kiss your hand goodbye, and get ready to head deep into the creepiest cabin in the woods. This week on Xtra Butta, Cam & Dylan dive face-first into Sam Raimi's cult classics: The Evil Dead (1981) and Evil Dead II (1987) — the films that turned “a weekend getaway” into “a blood-soaked nightmare with questionable life choices.” We're talking: Possessed trees with bad boundaries. The Necronomicon — aka “the worst Airbnb guestbook ever.” Bruce Campbell serving main-character energy and getting beat up by his own hand like a pro wrestler. We'll break down both films' chaotic plots, their wild behind-the-scenes history, and how Raimi basically invented low-budget horror magic with a fog machine, a cabin, and pure insanity. Plus, jokes. Lots of jokes. Because if you can't laugh while being chased by demonic forces… when can you? Wanna ask us something?!? Degens Andy S and Brandon Bombay get groovy baby, during Spooky Sleazon as they discuss the indescribable classic, 'Evil Dead II.' Andy kicks it off telling a story about the time he and friends tried to channel their own Ash-like maybe by having chainsaw battles, and it turned out about as well as reading a passage from the Necronomicon. Then the fellas make an argument for this being possibly the greatest film of all-time as it starts as a one man show that blends live action Looney Tunes-style comedy with truly unsettling moments. Body parts get severed, blood pours from every conceivable opening, and it's all held together by the undeniable charisma — and classic Hollywood good looks — of Bruce Campbell. The 'Evil Dead' franchise not only reshaped horror, but the reverberations of its impact changed comic book movies forever as director Sam Raimi would later be given the keys to one of the biggest franchises of all-time. Check out the ep, and you'll be having a burning in helluva good time.

Hello, friends! Welcome back to the Video Store Podcast. After a short break (you'll find out why in this episode), the store has reopened just in time for Halloween! On this episode of the podcast I'm recommending four films in which characters accidentally open portals, unleash evil spirits into this world, and spend the majority of the film trying to send it back before… gulp… you know.Evil Dead 2 (1987)Ash Williams is one unlucky fellow as, once again, he finds himself in a remote cabin accidentally opening a portal to Hell after playing recorded passages read from the Necronomicon — aka “the Book of the Dead.” You don't need to have seen the first film to watch this one. Grab a bucket of popcorn and your chainsaw and check this one out.The Gate (1987)Glen, his best friend Terry, and Glen's older sister Al accidentally open a gate to Hell in their own backyard and must use what resources they have to put them back. For being PG13, The Gate has some pretty horrifying (and amazing) special effects. This is the film that turned me on to The Killer Dwarves and made me fear geodes. Night of the Demons (1988)A group of teens are invited to attend a Halloween party at an abandoned funeral parlor (rumored to be haunted) and perform a seance. What could possibly go wrong? If you said “nothing” you haven't been paying attention! One by one most of the teens become possessed, killed, or killed and then possessed. These demons like to mix things up! A great horror flick with a great 80s vibe. Witchboard (1986)If you've learned anything from this podcast so far I hope it's to not go around trying to open portals to other worlds. In Witchboard, Linda begins dabbling with an Ouija Board and if you think that leads to good things, you have learned nothing. It's up to Linda's current boyfriend and ex-boyfriend to team up and drive the evil out of her. I won't tell you if they are successful but I will tell you this film has at least two sequels. Thanks for stopping by our video store. Enjoy the new hot dog roller and cocktail Ms. Pac-Man machine we added by the front door. Grab a few horror films while you're here and don't forget to rewind them before you return them. Thanks for coming in! This is a public episode. Henrique Couto & Rachael Redolfi cut deep into Sam Raimi's The Evil Dead (1981)—the raw, relentless, cabin-in-the-woods classic that jump-started a whole splatter language. We unpack how Raimi's scrappy camera attacks, Tom Sullivan's gnarly makeup/stop-motion, and Bruce Campbell's live-wire performance forged a cult juggernaut on a shoestring. We also trace the Michigan-to-Tennessee origin story (yes, that Morristown cabin), why the movie's fever-dream logic still rattles modern audiences, and how the film's ratings saga (X → NC-17; many releases unrated) fed its outlaw reputation. Inside this episodePure nightmare mode: Why the 1981 original plays it straight—and meaner—than its sequels, leaning into fever-dream momentum instead of jokey splatter.DIY brutality: Tom Sullivan's prosthetics and stop-motion meltdown; Raimi's aggressive camera grammar that makes the cabin feel alive. From Michigan to Morristown: How a Detroit proof-of-concept led to a Tennessee shoot—and the enduring lore around that cabin site. (We discuss the oft-told lightning-strike story and what locals say.) The ratings fight: Festival buzz, an X rating, later NC-17 notes, and why many home releases stayed unrated—fueling the film's “forbidden” aura. While growing up in Kentucky, Mary Eden was often bored. But it was that boredom, she recalls, that helped her find meaningful interests as she explored her world. It led her to art and to adventure. She didn't discover rock climbing until she moved to Moab in her early twenties. Even then, she says she wasn't a naturally-gifted climber. But, she was determined to learn, and did whatever she needed to do to find gear, mentorship and belayers. She always had the drive, and once she learned how to properly train, Eden progressed, fairly quickly, to being one of the best crack climbers in the world. Her climbing accomplishments include Necronomicon (5.14a) and Black Mamba (5.14b). Today, Eden is a professional climber and artist. She shared the story of her life and journey into climbing in Alpinist 89, and she's featured on the cover of that issue. In this conversation, Mary talks about her growth as a climber and the beauty she finds in the holds and heights of Western landscapes, especially around her home in Moab. She reflects on what she learns about herself through climbing, especially during moments of self doubt and explains why she encourages her friends to fail as often as possible.
