T20 World Cup Daily, 2024, Day 10: South Africa v Bangladesh, Scotland v Oman Another New York day, another last-ball thriller, another low-scoring run chase. Once again South Africa struggled early before The Wolf cleaned up the scene. Once again a run-a-ball chase ended up being far tighter than it had any right to be, and once again Anrich Nortje among others was unhittable. In last night's game, the Scots threw down the gauntlet to England with a run rate surge. Is there any hope for Delhi, and is the beginning of a charge for Mumbai Indians. Then finally, Lucknow Super Giants have Yash Thakur. Host Carl Lewis and cricket punter Lwanele Poswayo preview the big group 2 ICC T20 World Cup match between South Africa and Pakistan in Sydney. South Africa's batting line-up is unlikely to change as long as they're winning, which probably means that there's still no room for Reeza Hendricks. The only consideration for them is whether to bring back Tabraiz Shamsi in place of one of the quicks, which could leave Lungi Ngidi on the sidelines. South Africa: : (possible) 1 Quinton de Kock (wk), 2 Temba Bavuma (capt), 3 Rilee Rossouw, 4 Aiden Markram, 5 David Miller, 6 Tristan Stubbs, 7 Wayne Parnell, 8 Keshav Maharaj, 9 Anrich Nortje 10 Lungi Ngidi/Tabraiz Shamsi, 11 Kagiso Rabada. Fakhar Zaman has been ruled out of the match with a knee injury so Pakistan's line-up will have atleast one change. Asif Ali was dropped after the India match but may be brought back in to the XI unless Fakhar is ruled out of the tournament entirely, in which case Mohammad Haris could be brought in as a player replacement. Pakistan: 1 Mohammad Rizwan (wk), 2 Babar Azam (capt), 3 Shan Masood, 4 Asif Ali, 5 Iftikhar Ahmed, 6 Shadab Khan, 7 Mohammed Nawaz, 8 Mohammed Wasim, 9 Shaheen Shah Afridi, 10 Haris Rauf, 11 Naseem Shah. Pitch and conditions This match will be played on the same pitch as the Sri Lanka-New Zealand game, where Trent Boult took a career-best 4 for 13. There's expected to be something in it for the quicks but also plenty of opportunities to score big. Sydney is the only venue at the tournament where teams have breached 200. The best news is that there's no chance of rain at all, with the temperatures in the mid-teens. Stats and trivia Pakistan have a 3-0 win record against South Africa at the T20 World Cup, even though they last met in 2012. The average first innings score in Sydney at this tournament so far is 188, the highest of the venues used.
Host Carl Lewis and cricket punter Lwanele Poswayo review the Proteas' massive win over India in the T20 World Cup. An astonishing display of fast bowling from South Africa's Lungi Ngidi and half-centuries from David Miller and Aiden Markram saw South Africa to a nail-biting five-wicket victory against India in their T20 World Cup match at the Perth Stadium on Sunday. India collapsed to 49-5 after choosing to bat first before recovering to a total of 133-9 but South Africa stumbled to 40-3 at the halfway stage of the run chase before a fourth-wicket stand of 76 saw them accelerate to victory with just two balls to spare with Miller keeping cool under intense pressure to finish unbeaten on 59 from 46 balls with four fours and three sixes. Suryakumar Yadav fought a brilliant, lone battle for India with a remarkable 68 from just 40 balls (6x4, 3x6) while the next highest score was just 15. South Africa's four-man pace attack complimented each other impressively and, although it was man-of-the-match Ngidi who claimed 4-29 the other three quicks all contributed to India's demise on a fast, bouncy pitch in the Western Australian capital. South Africa struggled desperately for the first 10 overs of the run-chase limping to 40-3 having been 3-2 and 24-3 with left-arm swing bowler, Arshdeep Singh, claiming wickets with his first and third deliveries. Quinton de Kock (1) edged an outswinger to second slip and Rilee Rossouw (0) was trapped lbw by an inswinger. Captain Temba Bavuma again struggled with 10 from 15 balls before attempting a ramp shot against Mohammad Shami and edging into the gloves of Dinesh Karthik. Markram and Miller stabilised the innings but at drinks, there were still 94 runs required from the final 10 overs. A change of gear from Markram saw 16 runs accrue from the 11th over from Hardik Pandya and 17 from the 14th bowled by Ashwin to seemingly put South Africa back on track with 35 runs required from the final five overs with seven wickets in hand. But a mistimed pull against Pandya to Yadav at deep midwicket saw Markram depart for 52 from 41 balls with six fours and a six. Offspinner Ashwin started the 18th over with South Africa requiring 24 runs from the final three overs but Miller calmed South African nerves – and kept his own – to hit two sixes back over the bowler's head to reduce the target to 12 runs from 12 balls before Tristan Stubbs (6) was trapped lbw. Earlier India openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul struck a legside six apiece but otherwise adopted a cautious approach before Rohit (15 off 14 balls) spliced a hook shot against Ngidi's second delivery lobbing a tame return catch to the bowler. Ngidi struck again with his sixth ball when Rahul (9 off 14 balls) edged a fierce lifter to Markram at deep slip with the total at 26-2 after five overs. There was no respite with Virat Kohli (12) failing to control a hook shot in Ngidi's next over and offering a simple catch to Kagiso Rabada at fine leg before Deepak Hooda (0) was beaten for pace by Anrich Nortje and edged to ‘keeper de Kock. India's top-order disintegration was completed in Ngidi's third over – the ninth of the innings – when Hardik Pandya (2) mistimed another hook shot to fine leg where Rabada claimed a magnificent, diving second catch of the innings. Dinesh Karthik contributed just six from 15 balls to a sixth-wicket stand of 52 with Yadav before slashing a Wayne Parnell delivery to Rossouw at cover and there were further wickets for Parnell when Ashwin (7) heaved a slower ball to mid-on for Rabada's third catch and Yadav miscued a clever slower ball to Keshav Maharaj at mid-off. Parnell, bowling two overs in the Power Play and two at the end of the innings, returned a sensational analysis of 4-1-15-3 while Nortje (4-0-23-1) and Rabada (4-0-26-0) did their jobs superbly. The victory moves South Africa above India to the top of the log and victory against Pakistan in Sydney on Thursday will all but secure their place in the semifinals. INDIA: Rohit Sharma (captain), KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Hardik Pandya, Dinesh Karthik, Ravichandran Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammad Shami, Arshdeep Singh SOUTH AFRICA: Quinton de Kock, Temba Bavuma (captain), Rilee Rossouw, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Tristan Stubbs, Wayne Parnell, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Lungi Ngidi
Another day, another upset. The 2022 men's T20 World Cup is the gift that keeps on giving! Zimbabwe clinched a famous victory against Pakistan, defending 130 and winning a thriller in Perth by just one run. Sikandar Rana was once again at the heart of everything good about Zimbabwe, taking a brilliant 3-25 with the ball. Earlier in the day, Rilee Rossouw struck a blistering century and Anrich Nortje took 4-10 as South Africa laid down a marker by thumping Bangladesh by 104 runs at the SCG. In the second game in Sydney, there were half-centuries for Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav as India produced a professional performance to ease past the Netherlands by 56 runs. Host Carl Lewis and cricket writer Daniel Gallan review the Test cricket series between England and South Africa which the home side won 2-1 and the Proteas batting unit failed dismally. The pair pull no punches as they rate the performance of each and every player for South Africa. Dean Elgar (captain), Sarel Erwee, Marco Jansen, Simon Harmer, Keshav Maharaj, Aiden Markram, Lungi Ngidi, Anrich Nortje, Duanne Olivier, Keegan Petersen, Kagiso Rabada, Ryan Rickelton, Lutho Sipamla, . . .
Host Carl Lewis chats with cricket writer Christopher Chiwanza about South African fast bowler Anrich Nortje who since bursting on the international scene with his raw pace has garnered respect from around the world in cricket. Anrich Nortje is a genuine quick who has been described as "extremely exciting" by none other than Dale Steyn. Like Steyn, Nortje is not a product of a big city but comes from the town of Uitenhage, north of Port Elizabeth, which is home to the largest Volkswagen factory in the African continent. It's hardly surprising then, that Nortje is well-acquainted with speed. He regularly sends the speed gun over 150kph and has a fearsome bouncer. Nortje was schooled at Brandwag High and went on to complete a Bachelor of Commerce degree in financial planning at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, where he used varsity cricket to hone his skills. Nortje enjoyed a strong start to his first-class franchise career, with 20 wickets in four matches in the 2016-17 season and a fifth-place finish on the first-class wicket charts in the 2017-18 summer, when he was the second-highest wicket-taking seamer. But the shorter format was where he got his big break. Nortje stormed onto the scene in late 2018, in the inaugural edition of the Mzansi Super League, South Africa's franchise T20 competition, with express pace that helped him take eight wickets in three matches for the Cape Town Blitz. His sensational start did not last too long and he was forced out of the tournament with an ankle injury, which required surgery. He recovered by early 2019 and made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka in March 2019. Nortje played four of the five matches in the series with a best return of 3 for 57 at his home ground in Port Elizabeth and appeared to have made a strong case for inclusion in the 2019 World Cup squad. Nortje's career appeared to be on the ascendancy when he was contracted by Kolkata Knight Riders for the 2019 IPL but had to withdraw from the tournament when he picked up a shoulder injury. Despite that, he was named in South Africa's World Cup squad and had recovered in time for the tournament but broke his thumb in training ahead of the team's departure. An opportunity to tour with the national side finally came in September-October 2019, when Nortje was named in the squad for a T20I and Test series in India. He made his debuts in both formats there.

Australia beat the West Indies and South Africa beat England as the aussies go through to the semi final of the T20 World Cup on Net run rate.6 SATAustralia v West Indies, Abu Dhabi (10:00 GMT)Australia went in to their final group game unchanged and they claimed another win that was a relative cruise for the Aussies, winning by 8-wickets thanks in large part to a superb 89* for David Warner, as he got them over the line and past the 158 target in just 16.2 overs. The Windies put up a total of 157/7 with captain Kieron Pollard top scoring with 44 off 31, whilst Evin Lewis hit 29 and Shimron Hetmyer 27. Josh Hazlewood led the Aussie bowling attack with his 4/39 with a wicket each for Mitch Starc, Pat Cummins and hero of their last outing, Adam Zampa. The reply was ruthless as David Warner led the way with his 56 ball 89. Mitch Marsh also showed his stuff with 53 off 32. Akeal Hossain and Chris Gayle claimed the 2 wickets. The Aussies finished the group with 4-wins and had to then had to wait for the outcome of the England/South Africa result as it would come down to NRR if SA were to record a win against leaders England…England v South Africa, Sharjah (14:00 GMT) So, despite SA claiming a brilliant 10-run win over England, their NRR was just not good enough as they missed out on qualifying for the semi-finals, being pipped by Australia in to 2nd place after both finished on 8-points, England also finished with 8-points but kept hold of the top spot. After Moeen Ali grabbed the early wicket of Reeza Hendricks, it looked good for England but enter Rassie van der Dussen, who struck a fantastic unbeaten 94 off just 60 balls. Quinton de Kock hit 34 whilst Aiden Markram supported van der Dussen brilliantly with another wonderful ½ century for Markram – this one 52 off 25. Only Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid took a wicket for England. In reply, England made a solid start but Jason Roy had to retire hurt on 20 shortly before fellow opener Jos Buttler went for 26 off 15, ct Bavuma off the bowling of Anrich Nortje. Bairstow came and went but the middle order of Moeen Ali (37 off 27), Dawid Malan (33 off 26) and Liam Livingstone (28 off 17) also kept the chase alive, as did skipper Eoin Morgan (17 off 12) but SA kept chipping away and England just could not get a partnership going long enough to get them over the line and finished the 20-overs just 10-runs short, finishing on 179/8. Credit must go to the SA bowling attack with Shamsi grabbing 2/24, Rabada claiming an expensive 3/48 and Dwaine Pretorius taking 2/30 off his 3. Despite the defeat, England will be satisfied with their efforts as they held onto top spot and go through to the semi's as Group A winner.
The Proteas are now on the back foot at the ICC T20 World Cup, after a 5 wicket loss to Australia in their opening match of the Super 12 stage. SA opted to bat first but their top order batsmen faltered, with Aiden Markram putting together a rescue job scoring 40 to help SA post 118/9 in their 20 overs. SA's bowlers put up a spirited fight as they looked to defend that total, with Anrich Nortje taking 2-21, but Steven Smith and Marcus Stoinis helped Australia ease to victory. Proteas skipper Temba Bavuma highlighted a couple of points they'll be looking to improve on when they face the West Indies on Tuesday.
The T20 Cricket World Cup is in full swing as England have smashed the West Indies after dismissing them for 55.Moeen Ali was incredible taking 2 wicket and bowling 18 dot balls during the first 8 overs of the innings. The Proteas suffered defeat in their opening match of the T20 World Cup Super 12 stage. SA batted first and struggled to 118/9 in their 20 overs - with Aiden Markram the only batter getting past twenty, with his 40 run knock salvaging SA's innings. Australia made fairly light work of the runchase - with Anrich Nortje returning best figures of 2-21 for SA. Proteas skipper Temba Bavuma admitted it was difficult for his side to try and defend their lowly target.

Royal Challengers Bangalore scripted an easy win over Rajasthan Royals in the first match on Saturday. Yuzvendra Chahal was the star with the ball as his three wicket haul restricted the Royals to a below par total. Devdutt Padikkal scored another half century while skipper Virat Kohli found form as he stayed unbeaten on 72 to see his team through. The second match of the day at Sharjah was another run fest as Delhi Capitals scored 228 runs after batting first. Skipper Shreyas scored an unbeaten 88 but KKR came very close in the chase but Anrich Nortje picked up 3 wickets and bowled a superb 19th over to win the match for his team. Today MI take on SRH at Sharjah while CSK look to turn their campaign around against KXIP in the second match of the day. Hindustan Times' Arnab Sen and Rasesh Mandani review Saturday's clashes and will build up to the two big matches later in the day.
We look at the entire squad of Delhi Capitals and analyse various options they have for a playing XI. We also discuss their chances of making the playoffs and which player are critical if they want to achieve the same. Please note that this episode was recorded before the announcement of Anrich Nortje as replacement of Chris Woakes. We have also recorded a short Part-2 of the podcast to discuss that announcement as well.
Part 2: We re-look at the Delhi playing XI post announcement of Anrich Nortje as replacement of Chris Woakes. We discuss whether the ideal playing XI for DC changes due to this replacement and whether this improves their chances of making the playoffs.
