India and Pakistan are set to clash in the Asia Cup group stage on Sunday in Dubai. The much-anticipated contest comes amid cross-border tensions and calls in India to boycott the game. Unlike previous high-voltage encounters, the hype this time feels muted. As of Friday, even the tickets were not sold out. On paper, there remains a clear gap in talent and class between the two sides, even in T20 cricket. India, the reigning world champions, look far stronger. Pakistan, missing their key batters Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, are still trying to adapt to the modern approach in the shortest format. Sunday's game could well turn into a one-sided affair, with India, led by Suryakumar Yadav, eager to assert dominance over their arch-rivals. The Indians sent out a strong message in their opening match against UAE, bowling them out for just 57 runs and chasing the target in only 4.3 overs. The question remains: does Pakistan have the bowling firepower to trouble India and make this contest competitive? If not, another lopsided result could further dent the already waning quality of this once-fierce rivalry between the neighbours. In the latest episode of the Sledging Room Podcast, Akshay Ramesh, Kingshuk Kusari, and Saurabh Kumar discuss the imbalance between the two teams and what to expect from the India–Pakistan tie in the Asia Cup. Produced by Nikhil Khattar   Sound mixed by Aman Pal

How can you not chase 120 when you know the tournament is on the line? The biggest match of the T20 World Cup saw Pakistan do a Pakistan. It was worse. Never has Pakistan been this listless with the bat in a major tournament in the recent past. After a shock defeat to the USA, who are playing a men's T20 World Cup for the first time, Pakistan were humbled by their arch-rivals India in New York on Monday. Pakistan bowlers gave it their all after the run of green went Babar Azam's way at the toss. Naseem Shah, Mohammad Amir and Haris Rauf bowled their hearts out to restrict the mighty Indian batting unit for just 119 in New York. However, there was no intent throughout the chase, with Babar Azam failing early and Mohammad Rizwan lacking common sense; Pakistan choked in the chase, losing by 6 runs. The defeat has pushed Pakistan to the brink of elimination. The 2022 finalists are set to exit without even making it to the Super 8s this year. Who should take the blame for Pakistan's horror show? Is it the cricket board? Keep in mind that captains were changed, and new coaches were brought in just months before the T20 World Cup. There is pressure on Babar Azam. Is it time for him to go as captain? Is it time for him to quit T20I cricket? Are Pakistan playing outdated cricket? Plenty of questions as the Green Shirts implode on the biggest stage. India, on the other hand, has won two in two. But they are not yet looking like title contenders. In the latest episode of the Sledging Room Podcast, Akshay Ramesh, Kingshuk Kusari, and Alan John discuss Pakistan's T20I team's downfall. Tune in! Produced and Mixed By: Kapil Dev Singh

India have made it 2 in 2 in the World Cup 2023, much like their arch-rivals Pakistan. The two teams could not have asked for better start to their campaigns before the marquee India vs Pakistan match, scheduled for October 14 in Ahmedabad. India laid down an early marker with a convincing win over Australia in Chennai but they showcased their ruthless side against Afghanistan in Delhi on October 11. On a flat batting pitch at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Jasprit Bumrah's best-ever World Cup figures of 4 for 39 helped India restrict Afghanistan to 272 after which it a Rohit Sharma show. India chased down the target in just 35 overs as Rohit Sharma hit an 84-ball 131, tearing into the Afghanistan bowling attack. It was Rohit's only 2nd hundred in 2023 and the skipper broke a series of records. Rohit broke Sachin Tendulkar's record for most hundreds in the tournament history. Rohit also got to his hundred in just 63 balls, breaking Kapil Dev's record (72) for the fastest hundred in World Cups by an Indian batter. Rohit Sharma was named the Player of the Match but quite a few argued it should have been Jasprit Bumrah. And then there was the highlight of the match where Virat Kohli patched up with Afghanistan pacer Naveen-ul-Haq after their ugly IPL spat. India will start the big-ticket match as clear favourites. Questions were asked about Pakistan's over-reliance on Babar Azam and the rest of the top-order before they headed to the World Cup. However, Mohammad Rizwan and newbie Abdullah Shafique put those doubts to rest when they scripted Pakistan's World Cup record chase against Sri Lanka in Hyderabad on Tuesday. Pakistan hadn't successfully chased more than 265 in their World Cup history before Tuesday, but they gunned down 345 to script a new tournament record. And their successful run chase came after their batting superstar, Babar Azam, was out for 10. The Hyderabad leg of Pakistan's campaign was a super hit. How Ahmedabad pans out can be a defining bit of their World Cup journey. Tune in! Produced and Sound Mix By- Kapil Dev Singh

England v Bangladesh was a one sided affair, in their second game of the Cricket World Cup. Joe Root, Dawid Malan and the boys posted a huge score. In response Bangladesh didn't really do anything. As an early innings spell from Reece Topley effectively ended the chase before it began.  Later Pakistan took on Sri Lanka in a thriller. Kusal Mendis was brutal once more, and was ably backed up by Samarawickrama. However, in response, and pursuing a record score to win a Cricket World Cup game, Pakistan were excellent. Mohammad Rizwan and Abdullah Shafique starred, as they both hit tons and guided Pakistan towards the score.  Use the code: CRICKETPOD for 20% off + free shipping at Manscaped.com Links to podcast audio: https://linktr.ee/thecricketpod Our website: thecricketpod.com Support the podcast: patreon.com/thecricketpod Buy merchandise: https://seriouscricket.co.uk/teamwear/stores/the-cricket-podcast/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thecricketpod Buy coffee: https://cricketcoffeeco.com/products/the-cricket-podcast-coffee Twitter and Instagram: @thecricketpod Want to create live streams like this? India will start their World Cup campaign against Australia in Chennai on October 8. Australia are 5-time world champions and are one of the favourites in the tournament but they will be up against hosts India, who have ticked every box so far. R Ashwin was a late addition to the Indian squad after an injury to Axar Patel. India now have a formidable spin attack with Ashwin set to go into battle alongside Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav. Ashwin might have been a late addition but the veteran off-spinner has had the wood over Australia in the recent past. Ashwin will be licking his lips to have a go against the likes of David Warner, Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne in his home ground, the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. However, it remains to be seen if Shubman Gill, who is down with dengue, will be able to get fit and be ready for the big-ticket match. Rahul Dravid, speaking to the media on Friday, assured that Gill is feeling better and the medical team is monitoring him. Meanwhile, England, the defending champions, had a forgettable start to their campaign. After their batters flopped against New Zealand, their bowlers failed to come to the party as the Black Caps won by 9 wickets. Jos Buttler's side looked jaded as they lacked the intent with the bat and were obliterated by Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra with the bat. It was a proper hammering from which England need to recover if they are to keep their hopes of retaining the title. These are still early days in the 2023 World Cup but the teams that take the early initiative and show their domination in these opening encounters would have made their jobs easier for a path to the semi-finals. On the other hand, Pakistan's top-order crumbled against the Netherlands in their opener in Hyderabad. However, they recovered to post a total in excess of 280 with handy contributions from Mohammad Rizwan and Saud Shakeel. There's plenty of action to come over the weekend, which includes the India vs Australia blockbuster. Rajarshi Gupta was joined by Akshay Ramesh as they discussed the start to the World Cup in India. Tune in.

Pakistan's previously misfiring opening pair of Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan chose last night's semi-final against the Black Caps to roar back into form, combining in a century stand to put them into the T20 World Cup final. The Black Ferns insist they're not daunted by the challenge in front of them in this weekend's Rugby World Cup final.

Host Carl Lewis and cricket punter Lwanele Poswayo preview the big group 2 ICC T20 World Cup match between South Africa and Pakistan in Sydney.   South Africa's batting line-up is unlikely to change as long as they're winning, which probably means that there's still no room for Reeza Hendricks. The only consideration for them is whether to bring back Tabraiz Shamsi in place of one of the quicks, which could leave Lungi Ngidi on the sidelines.   South Africa: : (possible) 1 Quinton de Kock (wk), 2 Temba Bavuma (capt), 3 Rilee Rossouw, 4 Aiden Markram, 5 David Miller, 6 Tristan Stubbs, 7 Wayne Parnell, 8 Keshav Maharaj, 9 Anrich Nortje 10 Lungi Ngidi/Tabraiz Shamsi, 11 Kagiso Rabada.   Fakhar Zaman has been ruled out of the match with a knee injury so Pakistan's line-up will have atleast one change. Asif Ali was dropped after the India match but may be brought back in to the XI unless Fakhar is ruled out of the tournament entirely, in which case Mohammad Haris could be brought in as a player replacement.   Pakistan: 1 Mohammad Rizwan (wk), 2 Babar Azam (capt), 3 Shan Masood, 4 Asif Ali, 5 Iftikhar Ahmed, 6 Shadab Khan, 7 Mohammed Nawaz, 8 Mohammed Wasim, 9 Shaheen Shah Afridi, 10 Haris Rauf, 11 Naseem Shah. Pitch and conditions This match will be played on the same pitch as the Sri Lanka-New Zealand game, where Trent Boult took a career-best 4 for 13. There's expected to be something in it for the quicks but also plenty of opportunities to score big. Sydney is the only venue at the tournament where teams have breached 200. The best news is that there's no chance of rain at all, with the temperatures in the mid-teens. Stats and trivia Pakistan have a 3-0 win record against South Africa at the T20 World Cup, even though they last met in 2012. The average first innings score in Sydney at this tournament so far is 188, the highest of the venues used.

Three episodes in three days! This time recording remotely, so if you listen carefully you'll hear the added bonus of a cricket in Stu's garage. So much cricket going on right now and in this episode we cover the brilliant fightback from Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Pakistan in the second Test against Australia, plus a few talking points from the series as a whole while the third match plays out. For what it's worth, Baldy's tactics to talk up Pakistan worked a treat, as they lost 7-20 after we finished recording. In moving to the West Indies v England series, we discuss the state of Test pitches around the world: Are they an issue? If so, what needs to be done? Closer to home, the Women's World Cup semi-final race is hotting up, but it's all gone wrong for the White Ferns, while Australia continue to look unstoppable. We also talk about things we're watching out for in the Black Caps series against the Netherlands, and look at this week's Plunket Shield highlights (apologies to Troy Johnson for Stu calling him Troy Robinson in the heat of the moment when mentioning his 194* for Wellington). Pakistan have thrashed India by 10 wickets at the T20 World Cup thanks to an incredible bowling performance by Shaheen Shah Afridi who dismissed KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma during the powerplay.Chasing 152 Pakistan strolled home thanks to 50's from Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam.Sri Lanka continued their good form with a nicely managed run chase as they knocked off 172 with 7 balls to spare. Bangladesh will rue some poor fielding but held their own in the contest.Mohammad Naim (62) and Mushfiqur Rahim (57*) laid the platform for Bangladesh inn contest that had its fiery spells thanks to a wild throw at the stumps by Dushmantha Chameera.Charith Asalanka (80*) was incredible in the chase and gave a sense of security as Sri Lanka won ...yet again.Another matchup of the qualifying teams saw Afghanistan take on the surprise package, Scotland in the only game of the day on Monday. Afghanistan won the toss and decided to have a bat. They made the most of the decision and went on to post 190/4 with contributions coming from all used batters. Hazratullah Zazai and Mohammad Shahzad got them off to a flyer, reaching 54 before Shahzad went 1-ball before the end of the powerplay. They kept the pace up with Rahmanullah Gurbaz 46 (37) and Najibullah Zadran 59 (34). Over the innings, they struck 11 x 6s and made the most of the shorter boundary. In reply, Scotland got off to a good start thanks to George Munsey & Kyle Coetzer, who were not going to hang around! Mujeeb popped up with to claim the all-important 1st wicket to break the partnership and make it 28/1 off 3.2 overs. Callum MacLeod went LBW next ball and he made it 3 wkts in 4 balls when he trapped Richie Berrington in front. An unplayable over from Mujeeb ur-Rahman. Both LBW's reviewed and were umpires call, clipping leg stump. Excellent bowling but Scotland will feel a little hard done by with the on field decisions. Matthew Cross went for 0 soon after, from a stunning one-handed diving catch from Shahzad behind the stumps off the bowling of Naveen (who had great success in the Vitality Blast with Leicestershire this summer). By the time Munsey went next over – a 4th Mujeeb victim also with umpires call on the impact line - the game was changed and at 36/5. Rashid Khan then rattled through the line-up to dismiss Scotland for just 60 all out and give Afghanistan a mammoth 130-run win, with Mujeeb taking 5/20 off 4 and Rashid Khan 4/9 off 2.2.

Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan won it in style by 10 wickets. Sri Lanka tracked down a challenging chase of 172, with Asalanka starring for a previously underestimated batting order. The West Indies' superstar batters fail spectacularly against England's spin attack of Moeen Ali and Rashid Khan, leaving the tournament favourites a simple chase for a big win. Australia make hard work of their response to a poor total from South Africa but get there in the end. Did South Africa get it wrong tactically in the final overs?
