In this episode of the show, we discuss the abandoned Test in Greater Noida between Afghanistan and New Zealand, Sri Lanka's win against England, India's squad to face Bangladesh and a the England v Australia bilateral T20 series. We start the show with a rant about the shambles that saw no play between the Black Caps and Afghanistan, but instead featured cutting up of the outfield, household fans and quite a bit of rain. Could this have been avoided? Or do we chalk it up to unseasonable weather and move on with our lives? It's then time to heap praise on Sri Lanka for their comfortable victory in the third Test against England – a result that looked unlikely after a light-affected Day 1. Pathum Nissanka and Kamindu Mendis shone with the bat, as well as Lahiru Kumara and Vishwa Fernando, in a win that keeps their World Test Championship dreams alive. For England, we ponder whether this was just a bad few days at the office or something more concerning. We discuss Harry Brook, a relatively inexperienced seam attack and whether Dan Lawrence will ever play for England again. To round out the show, we look at India's squad for their upcoming Test series against Bangladesh, as well as a few over-reactions after Game 1 of the England v Australia T20 series (which Liam Livingstone must have heard before Game 2!). The 2024 England Australia Daily, 2nd T20, Cardiff: Wales has not been a happy hunting ground for Australia, and it looked like that might change on a brisk night when Travis Head and Matt Short again got flying. Australië se kaptein Mitchell Marsh, was vol lof vir Head:
The T20 World Cup Semi-Finals are finally here and we have got the most extensive, most in-depth preview you could ever dream of. England Skipper Michael Vaughan, Aussie Wicky Adam Gilchrist, and the two blow-hards, The Prof and Ollie, will let you in on everything you need to know for the South Africa v Afghanistan match up as well as the defending Champions England taking on India. There's lots of chat about wet Caribbean wickets, Indian Time Zones, dodgy 1st slip Hamstrings and a globally well received exit from the big guns Down Under. In this episode of the show, we look back at the latest four games of the Super 8 stage at the Men's T20 World Cup, which saw India all but book a semi-final berth while all other sides fight for their tournament lives. We start the show by discussing Afghanistan's historic win against Australia. Captain Cummins got another hat trick, but it was first Gurbaz and Ibrahim and then Gulbadin who flexed their muscle and secured a famous victory. Was it a mistake to leave out Mitchell Starc? And could this win propel Afghanistan all the way to the title? From there we move to India's game against Bangladesh, which resulted in a fairly comfortable win and India putting one foot in the next round. There were positive signs for Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Shivam Dube, wickets for Kuldeep Yadav and even positives for Bangladesh to take from the performance of Rishad Hossain throughout this tournament. Third up in our match review was South Africa's win against England. Quinton de Kock looked like he was batting on a different pitch than everyone else, but it was a game that went right down to the wire and looked like it could go either way when Ottniel Baartman was bowling full tosses and Liam Livingstone and Harry Brook were hitting them over the rope. In the fourth and final game covered, we discuss the impact of the West Indies' big win against the USA, and how it has set up a potential knockout game against South Africa in the final round of the Super 8. There's also praise for both Shai Hope and Darren Sammy as this comprehensive victory rounds out the show. We are planning to record regularly throughout the next phases of the tournament, so expect to be in your feed every few days through to the final match - our next show will be a preview of the semi-finals, on Tuesday night NZ time. 2024 T20 World Cup, Day 21.1: England v South Africa It was back to Group 2, for the unbeaten South Africans taking on the newly awakened English. Quinton de Kock was a coaled-up train, but the rest of his heavy hitters found it hard to ride along. Jofra Archer was bad, then great, then better. Harry Brook and Liam Livingstone had the game in their hands, but the breeze kept ruffling those palms. A game down to the line in St Lucia, with Matt Roller and Geoff Lemon. In this episode of the show, Binksy, Baldy, Stu and Raj preview the IPL tournament, covering Mumbai, Punjab, Rajasthan, RCB and Sunrisers Hyderabad.Wall-to-wall T20 cricket is about to begin, with the IPL followed by the T20 World Cup and in this episode (part 2 of 2) we focus on five teams, discussing squad news, why each team can win, potential weaknesses, key players and predicted finishing order. We also give our overall tournament predictions, including semi-finalists, champions and the winners of the purple and orange caps.Teams covered are:Mumbai Indians: Mumbai have arguably the best batting lineup in the competition, stacked with local talent. There's the return of Hardik Pandya and what that might mean for the harmony of the side with him taking the captaincy from Rohit Sharma, plus a few question marks about their spinners - but does that even matter when Jasprit Bumrah is in your side?Punjab Kings: There's an English flavour to this squad, with Jonny Bairstow, Liam Livingstone, Chris Woakes and Sam Curran all set to feature during the tournament. Add the likes of Arshdeep Singh, Kagiso Rabada and Harshal Patel to that and the bowling attack looks solid, but can Shikhar Dhawan and co score enough runs to take them to the playoffs?Rajasthan Royals: T20 opening partnerships don't get much better than Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler, and the addition of Shane Bond to the coaching staff has the New Zealanders excited for 2024. There's great spin depth, batting firepower and lovely Trent Boult, but where are the allrounders?Royal Challengers Bangalore: Virat Kohli! Faf du Plessis! Glenn Maxwell! Cameron Green! Mohammed Siraj! The RCB lineup won't be short on matchwinners, but who will fill the fourth overseas spot in the XI? And will their bowling lineup be able to defend anything under 200?Sunrisers Hyderabad: It was a busy auction for Daniel Vettori and the Orange Army. Pat Cummins joined as captain, plus Travis Head and Wanindu Hasaranga to round out a remarkably strong collection of 8 overseas players. Which four will they choose from game to game? We debate this, plus discuss whether Umran Malik can get back to his best, how much we'll miss Dale Steyn's hair and whether Captain Cummins's golden run is set to continue in 2024. We'll be back again regularly during the tournament with more news and views, but until then please take the time to give us a like, follow, share or subscribe on all our channels (@toporderpod on Twitter & Facebook, and @thetoporderpodcast on Instagram & YouTube) and a (5-Star!) review at your favourite podcast provider, or tell a friend to download. India stayed perfect and England remained awful as Mohammed Shami bowled a stunning opening spell to give the hosts a 100-run win at the Cricket World Cup. Shami and Jasprit Bumrah shared an initial five wickets in a fiery exhibition of pace and seam movement in a six-over spell in the first powerplay and blew away the English top-order. That came after India had been put into bat and scored only 229-9 in 50 overs on a tough pitch with Rohit Sharma contributing 87 runs off 101 balls. The total proved more than enough for India to defend. Shami finished with 4-22 in seven overs, while Bumrah returned 3-32 in 6.5 overs, as England suffered yet another batting collapse, crashing to a fifth defeat in six games. Defending champion England were left languishing in 10th spot after a miserable outing in Lucknow against Indian pace and spin – all out for 129 runs in just 34.5 overs. India continues to fly high as the only unbeaten team in the tournament. The hosts top the standings with 12 points from six games, two points ahead of second-place South Africa, with New Zealand and Australia a further two points back. England, the 2019 champions, stayed last with two points and only one win in six games. Australia in 1992 is the only other defending champion to lose four or more matches at a World Cup. Chasing 230, England faltered after their openers put on 30 runs. Bumrah bowled Dawid Malan in the fifth over for 16. The very next ball, Joe Root was out lbw for a golden duck – plumb in front, shuffling across the stumps. He appealed unsuccessfully. While Bumrah's hat trick was denied, Shami then was on one himself at the other end. His opening overs were near unplayable as Ben Stokes struggled to put bat to ball. Stokes went for a slog and was bowled in the eighth over for a 10-ball duck. The very first ball of his next over, Bairstow played on off Shami as England was down to 39-4 in 9.1 overs. The pacers' opening salvo saw England lose four wickets for nine runs across 26 balls. After a drinks break, it was spin's turn. Despite heavy dew, Kuldeep Yadav sent down a beauty to bowl Jos Buttler for 10. Buttler had no clue as the ball turned in sharply off length, leaving England at 52-5. Moeen Ali and Liam Livingstone added 29 runs for the sixth wicket – the second highest partnership of England's innings. But the pressure never eased. Shami returned to have Ali caught behind for 15 runs and Ravindra Jadeja had Chris Woakes stumped for 10 in the 29th over. Yadav then trapped Livingstone lbw – out for 27 – as England crashed to 98-8. England did manage to reach 100 but it was small consolation as Shami-Bumrah returned to finish off proceedings. Earlier, India got off to a poor start as England choked the top-order. Woakes bowled Shubman Gill for nine in the fourth over and three overs later, India was 27-2 as Virat Kohli chipped to mid-on and was out caught for a nine-ball duck off David Willey. Woakes sent back Shreyas Iyer for four runs, out caught pulling a short ball, his Achilles' heel as the score read 40-3 in 11.5 overs. Sharma and Lokesh Rahul resisted with a sedate 91-run partnership for the fourth wicket in their 111-ball partnership. The usually hard-hitting Sharma played an innings of great control. He did survive an lbw shout early on, but the ball was gliding past leg stump on DRS review. Sharma scored his second half-century in the tournament – his fifth 40-plus score in six innings – off 66 balls as he anchored the Indian innings. At the other end, Rahul scored 39 off 58, with three fours, but fell against the run of play. Willey returned to dismiss him in the 31st, as Rahul mistimed a pull shot. Wrist spinner Adil Rashid bowled with great control for England, taking 2-35 in 10 overs. His first wicket was vital to hold back India's score – Sharma holed out to deep midwicket, 13 runs shy of his hundred. At 164-5, India was in trouble and England looked in control. Suryakumar Yadav helped push the score past 200. Yadav scored 49 off 47 balls, with four fours and a six. He put on 18 runs with Jadeja (18), and then another 25 with Bumrah. Yadav was caught off Willey, leaving India at 208-8. Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav added 21 runs for the ninth wicket. England has only beaten Bangladesh and has also lost to New Zealand, Afghanistan, South Africa and Sri Lanka. Star all-rounder Hardik Pandya was still unavailable for India and is nursing a left ankle injury. In his absence, the hosts went with a similar combination as it did against New Zealand a week ago in Dharamsala – six batters and five bowlers. Both India and England fielded an unchanged side at the BRABVE Stadium.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Did they get the balance right?Through the lens of the current ODI series against England, we also take a deeper dive into the squad and how they might line up at the tournament:Who are the key players in the batting lineup and why is it Devon Conway and Daryl Mitchell? How will four seamers fit into three spots?Trent Boult is awesomeOn the England side, questions still remain about Harry Brook and whether he's doing enough to force his way into the squad. Liam Livingstone is putting his hand up, though, as is Gus Atkinson, who is shining among a number of England seamers all fighting for game time.Over in South Africa, the Australians continue to outplay the home side - even ones who weren't initially named in the starting XI. We debate whether Marnus Labuschagne's match-winning performance as a concussion substitute and the hundred that followed will be enough to get himself on the plane to India. We also shine the spotlight on South Africa to ask: Are they serious contenders at this World Cup?The Asia Cup has moved to the Super 4 phase, India and Pakistan played a one-dayer over two days and Virat Kohli scored his 47th ODI hundred. Why no Matt Potts? Will they change the balance of the side? The panel all make a series of predictions for the T20 World Cup while also discussing a remarkable opening few days to round one. There's discussion on the High Performance Review; Katya chats to Leicestershire chief executive Sean Jarvis about what the proposals would do to his county while we also hear what some active players have told the panel in recent weeks. Finally, there is a discussion with the artist Andrew Redden, whose collection of prints celebrating the UK's most loved cricket grounds is available to buy at wisden.com/shop - that is also where you can get your hands on the most recent edition of Wisden Cricket Monthly.n Learn more about your ad choices. Sunrisers Eastern Cape won a fierce bidding war against MI Cape Town and Johannesburg Super Kings to snap up their homegrown star-in-the-making. Uncapped 24-year-old batter Donavon Ferreira, who plays for Titans in the South African domestic circuit, created a big stir. Having listed his base price at Rand 175,000 (USD 10,000 approx.), Ferreira, who also bowls a bit and keeps wicket, was eventually snapped up by Super Kings for Rand 5.5 million (USD 310,000 approx.) in the accelerated round of the auction. The winning bid came after some chaos, as Paarl Royals and Pretoria Capitals both tried to outbid Super Kings but were forced to pull out as they didn't have much left in their purse at that point and had other spots still to fill - if they were allowed to keep bidding, they would have run out of the money needed to fill their quota of 17 players. Ferreira has played 19 T20s so far, and boasts a strike rate of 148.26 and an average of 54.85. The Jansen brothers - Duan and Marco - were also in demand, with Marco joining Stubbs at Sunrisers for Rand 6.1 million (USD 344,000 approx.) and Duan going to MI for Rand 3.3 million (USD 186,000 approx.). Marco is already part of the Sunrisers franchise in the IPL, while Duan was recently with the Mumbai Indians development squad that toured the UK. Kolpak-returnee Rilee Rossouw, who has played T20 cricket around the world, also hit paydirt, with Capitals forking out Rand 6.9 million (USD 389,000 approx.) for him. Wayne Parnell, another Kolpak returnee, also triggered a bidding war, which was won by Capitals too. They outbid Super Kings and got the left-arm seam-bowling allrounder for Rand 5.6 million (USD 316,000 approx). However, there were no takers for South Africa's T20I captain Temba Bavuma and Test captain Dean Elgar.
Adam Gilchrist & Tim Gossage are joined by: BBL Inaugural Draft No.1 Pick - Liam Livingstone; Australian Football Hall of Famer - Matthew Pavlich; Perth Scorchers Head Coach - Adam Voges; Australian Cricket Legend - Justin Langer; and FOX Sports Reporter - Drew Jones.
Batsman for the Melbourne Renegades and England, Liam Livingstone, went one on one with Adam Gilchrist after being selected with the first pick in the inuagural Big Bash League Draft for BBL12.
The Hundred tournament starts on 3 August 2022, and Birmingham Phoenix will be hoping to repeat their group topping efforts of 2021. It might be a tough ask though as the squad seems to have caught the injury bug: Chris Woakes is working back to fitness, Adam Milne (the Kiwi quick bowler) has had Achilles heel problems, Olly Stone is confirmed out... There is still quality though, and can you even really rule out any team with Liam Livingstone, Moeen Ali and Matthew Wade? Plus, there is always the Imran Tahir factor...! This is The Hundred Club: a community for fans of short format cricket.

Join Dan and Glenn—other podcast members will return soon, we promise—as they analyse England's record-breaking tour of the Netherlands! Sixes rained down in Amstelveen as an intimidatingly strong England team put a youthful Netherlands side to the sword. Jos Buttler, Dawid Malan, and Phil Salt led the charge in the first match, while Liam Livingstone wrapped up the carnage by blasting England's quickest ever ODI fifty. However, one tourist missed out on the fun: captain Eoin Morgan, who recorded painful consecutive ducks. With a sustained poor run of form over the last year, is his side in the team now in doubt... or are his critics overreacting? Form is temporary, yet class is permanent after all. All that, plus a quick preview of the third Test between England and New Zealand. Enjoy! YJB was absolutely sensational, Root is the best player ever (at the moment) and Stokes is the captain that England need. But just how bad were New Zealand? Australia are doing good things in Sri Lanka, but will we remember any of this unless Tim David is selected and we feel safety in the size of the men that represent the country. South Africa are winning against India B, not that any of this matters, because the IPL rights just got sold for $5.1billion USD. Wouldn't mind a slice. Liam Livingstone is on the show to tell us how and why he swings so hard and #AskTGC involves a young law clerk being caught in a lie. In this episode, we look at the 2 most important matches of IPL Week 7. These two matches have been extremely significant and are worth looking at, with some good performances including England duo Liam Livingstone and Jonny Bairstow's fifties. No matter how good McCullum was as a player, he does lack experience as a head coach, especially in Test Cricket. With England doing so horribly in Test Cricket in 2021, you would think that we need an experienced coach to guide us to victory. We look at this and more about McCullum in this episode.
Imagine being better at something than 99% of the planet. Imagine then deciding that you want to learn a more difficult skill even though you are already an international athlete. Simi Singh is in many ways Ireland's answer to Liam Livingstone in being both an off and leg spinner, but he is different too in many ways. Here he tells me all about his bowling development in a deep dive into the psychology, analysis and motivation behind his career. It was raining money in the jam-packed two-day IPL Mega Auction, with the 10 franchises splurging close to Rs 550 crore on 204 players to assemble their respective squads. Ishan Kishan emerged as the most expensive player of the auction, bought by Mumbai Indians for a whopping Rs 15.25 crore. New team Lucknow Super Giants made Avesh Khan the most expensive uncapped player of IPL history by buying him for Rs 10 crore. But the highlight of the second day of the auction was England all-rounder Liam Livingstone, who triggered an intense bidding war between Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Punjab Kings. He was finally bought by the team with the biggest auction purse, Punjab Kings, for Rs 11.5 crore. This auction also had many firsts – two new teams, 11 players being sold for Rs 10 crore or more (the most ever), and the end of an era for a few star players like Suresh Raina, Ishant Sharma, Steve Smith, Eoin Morgan, who had no takers. To discuss the hits and misses of this auction, joining me today is Chandresh Narayanan, a sports analyst and commentator. Tune in! Australia beat the West Indies and South Africa beat England as the aussies go through to the semi final of the T20 World Cup on Net run rate.6 SATAustralia v West Indies, Abu Dhabi (10:00 GMT)Australia went in to their final group game unchanged and they claimed another win that was a relative cruise for the Aussies, winning by 8-wickets thanks in large part to a superb 89* for David Warner, as he got them over the line and past the 158 target in just 16.2 overs. The Windies put up a total of 157/7 with captain Kieron Pollard top scoring with 44 off 31, whilst Evin Lewis hit 29 and Shimron Hetmyer 27. Josh Hazlewood led the Aussie bowling attack with his 4/39 with a wicket each for Mitch Starc, Pat Cummins and hero of their last outing, Adam Zampa. The reply was ruthless as David Warner led the way with his 56 ball 89. Mitch Marsh also showed his stuff with 53 off 32. Akeal Hossain and Chris Gayle claimed the 2 wickets. The Aussies finished the group with 4-wins and had to then had to wait for the outcome of the England/South Africa result as it would come down to NRR if SA were to record a win against leaders England…England v South Africa, Sharjah (14:00 GMT) So, despite SA claiming a brilliant 10-run win over England, their NRR was just not good enough as they missed out on qualifying for the semi-finals, being pipped by Australia in to 2nd place after both finished on 8-points, England also finished with 8-points but kept hold of the top spot. After Moeen Ali grabbed the early wicket of Reeza Hendricks, it looked good for England but enter Rassie van der Dussen, who struck a fantastic unbeaten 94 off just 60 balls. Quinton de Kock hit 34 whilst Aiden Markram supported van der Dussen brilliantly with another wonderful ½ century for Markram – this one 52 off 25. Only Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid took a wicket for England. In reply, England made a solid start but Jason Roy had to retire hurt on 20 shortly before fellow opener Jos Buttler went for 26 off 15, ct Bavuma off the bowling of Anrich Nortje. Bairstow came and went but the middle order of Moeen Ali (37 off 27), Dawid Malan (33 off 26) and Liam Livingstone (28 off 17) also kept the chase alive, as did skipper Eoin Morgan (17 off 12) but SA kept chipping away and England just could not get a partnership going long enough to get them over the line and finished the 20-overs just 10-runs short, finishing on 179/8. Credit must go to the SA bowling attack with Shamsi grabbing 2/24, Rabada claiming an expensive 3/48 and Dwaine Pretorius taking 2/30 off his 3. Despite the defeat, England will be satisfied with their efforts as they held onto top spot and go through to the semi's as Group A winner.
Jonathan Agnew is joined by World Cup winner Liam Plunkett and former Australian player Stuart Law to review a thumping 8 wicket win for England. We also hear from Liam Livingstone, Chris Jordan, Eoin Morgan and Aaron Finch.
