In this episode of the show, Binksy, Jamie, Baldy and Stu kick off the IPL 2025 coverage by previewing the fortunes of the Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals, Mumbai Indians and the Chennai Super Kings. We start with a Baldy explainer, and a quick chat about the impact of the mega auction, before moving straight into the team previews. We discuss what excites us about our chosen teams, whether that's particular players or team storylines, and whether they'll be in title contention come the business end of the tournament. First up is KKR, in which Binksy asks why they aren't favourites with the betting agencies, highlights the importance of Andre Russell and Sunil Narine again, as well as the talented Indian bowling core featuring the likes of Varun Chakravarthy, Harshit Rana and Vaibhav Arora. There's also a word on Ajinkya Rahane taking over as captain. Next is Sunrisers Hyderabad, in which Stu gets excited about songs, Abhishek Sharma, Nitish Kumar Reddy, the power-packed batting lineup and bowling reinforcements, before asking whether this team can go one better in 2025. For the Rajasthan Royals, the absence of Jos Buttler is the question on our minds. Without him and others, they look weaker and the betting agencies have written them off. But can Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal and co. make those odds look silly when the winners medals are handed out at the end of May? The Mumbai Indians are up fourth, and Baldy proceeds with caution when discussing their favouritism with the bookmakers. Will the star-studded batting lineup featuring Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya and friends deliver in 2025? Or will the absence of Jasprit Bumrah - for how long? - be too difficult to overcome with the ball in hand? To round out part one of our preview, Jamie takes a look at CSK, highlighting the plethora of options their allrounder-packed squad provides them. What role will Rachin Ravindra play? Will MS Dhoni continue his six-hitting exploits? And when the team does settle on a best XI, will it be strong enough to take them to the final? We'll be back in your feed again at the end of the week with the second episode of our IPL 2025 Preview. The Gautam Gambhir era as India's head coach has begun. Gambhir's tenure runs until 2027, during which India will compete in three ICC white-ball tournaments and possibly the World Test Championship Finals in 2025 and 2027. Gambhir is expected to secure more ICC titles, but the last 11 years have shown how challenging it is to win world trophies, with only Australia consistently succeeding. Gambhir's response to his new role announcement was characteristic. Instead of featuring his image or past World Cup trophies, he prominently displayed the national flag alongside a message: "India is my identity." Known for his pragmatic approach, Gambhir prioritizes team success over individual stars. His cricketing journey, marked by a late and diligent Test comeback, reflects his commitment to meritocracy rather than age-based exclusions. This philosophy extends to his support for players like Sunil Narine and Andre Russell in the IPL, demonstrating his belief in talent beyond conventional norms. Despite past publicised conflicts, Gambhir and Virat Kohli share a deep-seated competitiveness and aversion to defeat. Their similarities suggest a potential for a productive working relationship, especially given Kohli's role in Gambhir's international return. When Gambhir's tenure ends, he will aim to leave India as the best side in the world, not only in ICC rankings but also with multiple World Cup trophies. In the latest episode of the Sledging Room Podcast, Akshay Ramesh, Saurabh Kumar, and Diya Kakkar preview how the Gautam Gambhir era could pan out. Tune in! Produced and Mixed By Sachin Dwivedi

2024 T20 World Cup, Day 22.2: South Africa v West Indies It was effectively a knockout, so the spectre of a South African choke was always on. They bowled well, restricted the scoring, then saw the rain come down and change the equation. Kolkata became the first team to qualify for the IPL 2024 playoffs. After being a mid-table struggler in the last few seasons, KKR has been the team to beat this season. And it's no coincidence that Gautam Gambhir returned to the side as their mentor. Under Gambhir, KKR played like champions and won two titles -- in 2012 and 2014.However, a few pundits, including the legendary Sunil Gavaskar, have questioned if giving all the credit to Gautam Gambhir is fair. Ian Bishop, former West Indies pacer, made it a point to mention Shreyas Iyer's brilliant captaincy in IPL 2024. Then, there is Chandrakant Pandit, who is a domestic doyen when it comes to coaching. It is a combined effort, but there's no doubt that Gambhir's return has made it tick for the Knight Riders. Are they capable of going all the way? Do they have any chinks in their armour? If they go all the way and win their 3rd title, will they retain Shreyas Iyer for the next season? Who will be their retentions, considering they have had a strong core over the years? Will they keep faith in the likes of Andre Russell and Sunil Narine?Meanwhile, MI is out of the playoffs race. They look disoriented, and their former captain, Rohit Sharma, looks disinterested. Is it time for Rohit to leave the franchise? Will KKR be his new home in 2025?Before all that, India would want Rohit Sharma to regain form and lead well at the T20 World Cup.Join Akshay Ramesh, Alan Jose John and Kingshuk Kusari as they discuss KKR's rise and Rohit Sharma's concerning form in the latest episode of the Sledging Room Podcast.Produced & Mixed By: Kapil Dev Singh

It's 2024. RCB won the Women's Premier League title and it was expected to inspire the men in the IPL. Two weeks into the IPL 2024 season, RCB look like they would end up with the wooden spoon, again! Virat Kohli is waging a lone battle, trying to shoulder the burden of scoring runs in an otherwise faltering batting line-up. Let's not talk too much in detail about RCB's bowling attack. It's dysfunctional. Did they lose it at the auction table? What should RCB do to find success in the IPL? Owners have changed, captains have changed, coaches have changed, but their retain luck doesn't seem to be going anywhere. Should they rename themselves as RCB? On the other hand, Gautam Gambhir is back at his ‘home' and it seems he has a Midas touch. The Knight Riders are playing an absolutely exciting brand of cricket, bringing back memories of the all-conquering squad under the former opener. Sunil Narine is shining again as an opener. Andre Russell is looking like a world-class all-rounder again. All signs pointing toward their 3rd title triumph? Akshay Ramesh, Alan John and Debodinna Chakraborty stir up some uneasy conversations in the latest episode of the Sledging Room Podcast. Tune in! Produced and Sound Mix By- Kapil Dev Singh

In this episode of the show, Binksy, Baldy, Stu and Raj preview the IPL tournament in two parts, starting with CSK, DC, GT, KKR and LSG.Wall-to-wall T20 cricket is about to begin, with the IPL followed by the T20 World Cup and in this episode (part 1 of 2) we focus on the first five teams (by alphabetical order) to discuss squad news, why each team can win, potential weaknesses, key players and predicted finishing order.Teams covered are:Chennai Super Kings: New Zealand eyes are focused on the fortunes of new Black Caps' recruits Daryl Mitchell and Rachin Ravindra - will they become CSK fan favourites? We also debate how damaging Devon Conway's injury will be and, of course, whether MS Dhoni will lead #WhistlePodu to another title.Delhi Capitals: Rishabh Pant's return is filling all the headlines, but is it fair to put so much expectation on his shoulders? There's also talk about the Australian connection, the spin strength of Kuldeep and Axar, and whether young players like Kumar Kushagra and Yash Dhull will have a positive impact.Gujarat Titans: Hardik Pandya is gone, but there's still plenty of experience in this squad as they look to return to a third consecutive final. We discuss the impact of Mohammad Shami's injury, try to figure out which overseas players will best balance the side and whether Spencer Johnson has a big role to play.Kolkata Knight Riders: Binksy's old favourite Andre Russell is back for another campaign, but can they improve on last year's 7th placed finish? We're excited to watch another Rinku Singh season, and there's excitement about a spin attack that could include Suyash Sharma alongside Varun Chakaravarthy, but what about the seamers?Lucknow Super Giants: The not-just-regular giants have made the playoffs in both of their two seasons, but there are plenty of questions leading into this upcoming campaign. How fit is KL Rahul? Can Shamar Joseph light up the tournament? And can Deepak Hooda get back to the form that saw him earn an international call up?Look out for part 2, which will release in 24 hours' time, in which we'll discuss the Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad. We'll also predict our semi-finalists, winners and leading wicket-taker and runscorer. We'll be back again regularly during the tournament with more news and views, but until then please take the time to give us a like, follow, share or subscribe on all our channels (@toporderpod on Twitter & Facebook, and @thetoporderpodcast on Instagram & YouTube) and a (5-Star!) review at your favourite podcast provider, or tell a friend to download. On this episode of The Cricket Podcast we continue with our IPL 2024 Team Previews. This episode is a big one, featuring three of the biggest franchises in the Indian Premier League: Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders. Are any of them contenders for this year's IPL title. Chennai Super Kings go into this year after winning the tournament last year. MS Dhoni is still in charge and with players like Jadeja, Chahar, Moeen Ali, the Dube and more backing him up they look like they could be a threat to win the IPL again. Can they secure another championship or might this be one tournament to far for the legendary Dhoni? Royal Challengers Bangalore made a big trade before the auction, picking up Cameron Green to bolster their batting. Along with the acquisition of Alzarri Joseph they seem like they could have improved for this year's IPL. However, there are weaknesses in other areas of the team and their bowling, in particular, looks like it could come under pressure. Will RCB be able to pull it together and finally deliver Virat Kohli the title he wants? Finally we talk Kolkata Knight Riders. They feature an exciting batting line up with Rinku Singh, Andre Russell and now Phil Salt providing serious firepower to their batting card. Backed up by a spin trio lead by Narine they could be a real handful with the ball too, especially if we see Mitchell Starc hit his stride. Could they be the dark horses for the IPL title? This week on the show, we look back at a host of topsy-turvy results at the IPL and the Black Caps tour to Pakistan, which finished with a New Zealand victory in the final ODI.For all our jokes about the IPL, the 2023 edition is delivering incredible finish after incredible finish. The only constant is drama - and the Gujarat Titans winning - with all 10 teams still in the hunt for a top 4 spot. The Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals were terrible, now they are the form teams, while the Lucknow Super Giants and Trent Boult's Rajasthan Royals are on the slide. We discuss impactful performances from Rinku Singh, Andre Russell, Glenn Phillips, Jos Buttler and Wriddiman Saha - plus the arguably less positive impact made by Virat Kohli. In the second half of the episode, we look at the positives from the Black Caps' ODI series with Pakistan, and ponder the World Cup selection questions that still remain unanswered. Should New Zealand favour specialists like Will Young, Mark Chapman, Tom Blundell and Ish Sodhi? Or lean towards allrounders like Jimmy Neesham, Michael Bracewell and Rachin Ravindra? Has Adam Milne done enough to take Lockie Ferguson's spot as the designated speedster? Sam Harper is a professional cricketer and a superstar of the BBL. He is a wicket-keeper batsman who currently has a first-class average of 27.27 for Victoria & 21.86 in T20 competition, most recently playing for the Melbourne Renegades. Sam was gracious enough to give us his time, take us behind the scenes and share what life is really like as a professional cricketer. He shared his story and what it was like signing his first Victorian contract at only 17 years old and walking into a star-studded dressing room! As well as explaining what his day-to-day consists of and his ambition to represent Australia and play more cricket abroad. Sam was so open and honest about the highs and lows of Big Bash Cricket. From the blistering heights including that famous BBL final against the Stars and the moments that took place out in the middle and playing alongside some of the all-time T20 greats like Aaron Finch and Andre Russell, to the realistic lows that each cricketer faces like form slumps and internal and external pressure. And to really get your total cricket fix, Sam even shared the art of sledging, cricket lunches and the one bowler who keeps him awake at night! On top of all that, we got a fantastic glimpse into Sam's personal life away from the game. You'll hear how much his family means to him, the actions he takes to better himself as a person and the passion he has for community and being a role model. Whether you're a cricket nuffie, casual observer or never watched a game at all, we guarantee you'll love this episode, purely based on the bloke Sam is and the stories he tells. Enjoy! The Rush Hour with Bernie, Blewey & Jars Catch-Up - Triple M Adelaide 104.7
Adelaide Strikers coach Jason 'Dizzy' Gillespie joined The Rush Hour with Bernie, Blewey & Jars after the first ever BBL Draft. Strikers picked up Rashid Khan, Colin de Grandhomme and Adam Hose, three exciting prospects that Gillespie believes perfectly compliment their existing roster, along with big new domestic signings like Chris Lynn. Dizzy also talked about why it is none of the biggest names being touted ahead of the BBL Draft, like Faf du Plessis or Andre Russell were snapped up and what Cricket Australia and the broadcasters may need to talk about given the challenges of availability. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
News Corp cricket writer Ben Horne joined Gerard to talk about the different set of priorities between the BBL clubs and the governing body in the BBL Draft, the disappointment with the draft from the broadcasters, the "huge problem" the BBL is facing going forward, Andre Russell and Faf du Plessis' chances of going through the process again, and more.

The Hundred tournament starts on 3 August 2022. No-one will be watched more closely through the tournament than Jos Buttler. The new England ODI and T20 Captain had a sensational IPL in 2022. But form has dipped since he returned to the UK, and he'll be keen to take his team to glory in The Hundred. He's got some big hitters alongside too: Andre Russell, Phil Salt, Laurie Evans. But it's not clear what Rich thinks putting Wanindu Hasaranga in at #3 in the batting... they'll need his magic bowling to take the wickets! This is The Hundred Club: a community for fans of short format cricket.
KKR vs DC, 19th Match IPL 2022. Kolkata Knight Riders have been on a roll this season and they've seen some top-class performances from Umesh Yadav, Andre Russell and Pat Cummins. The side will be hoping that some of the other team members who haven't contributed so far also take responsibility in this game. They will be the favourites to pick up a win here.Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals will need to go back to the drawing board and assess things. The approach from the middle-order looked pedestrian in the last match and the pyrotechnics that are expected to come off Rishabh Pant's bat have slowed down.

Does ODI cricket really matter anymore? Did Sam Billings score the most expensive runs in cricket history? Does ANYONE know what a powerplay is? In the latest episode of Bits and Pieces - the friendliest cricket podcast - Kaustubh and Murali join Nitin, PGK, and Srinath to discuss the week in cricket. The protocols Big Bash League players are expected to abide by with Melbourne and Sydney recording thousands of coronavirus cases a day, how the Stars can improve after two wins and two losses to start their summer, the swagger and "three-dimensional" talents Andre Russell brings to the line-up, how Brody Couch has been a "breath of fresh air," and more.
With the first 10 BBL11 games in the books, Bryce McGain joined SEN Mornings to delve into some of the biggest talking points from the season so far, including Matthew Wade's form for the Hurricanes, David Saker's challenge with the Renegades and Andre Russell's inclusion at the Stars. After a hat-trick of quality guests, normal service resumes as we discuss recent events across the cricketing world. We talk about the raft of Black Caps performing on the English county circuit, including Glenn Phillips, Finn Allen, Lockie Ferguson and Adam Milne, and the prospect of huge competition for spots as New Zealand builds towards the T20 World Cup. Baldy really enjoys it as he's questioned about Australia's performances against the West Indies: Are they any closer to knowing their best XI in T20 cricket? Should Mitchell Marsh be in that lineup? Are there problems behind the scenes? And we heap praise on the West Indies who, even after their recent series losses to South Africa, look an incredibly united cricket side that are so fun to watch and so dangerous in the white-ball formats, with a batting lineup featuring the likes of Chris Gayle, Andre Russell and Kieron Pollard, plus the emergence of bowlers like Obed McCoy and Hayden Walsh. After a swish, it's England's turn to receive our praise, with their incredible limited-overs depth demonstrated by series wins against Sri Lanka, followed by Pakistan with a complete team swap in between. Binksy explains why it's easier to make the step up to international cricket in ODIs and T20s than it is in Test match cricket, and why we should all have posters of Joe Root on our wall. Raj takes us through Sri Lanka's off-field struggles and Lippy asks: Will they even qualify for the 2023 World Cup? If you haven't already, dip back into our recent episodes - Jarrod Kimber takes us on a deep dive of New Zealand Cricket on and off the field, and evaluates the World Test Championship as a format; Tim Southee talked about the pride the Black Caps felt after finally getting their hands on another ICC trophy; and Iain O'Brien was incredibly candid sharing stories from his career and his philosophy on life and cricket as he moves into a coaching gig with Cricket Wellington. Coming up, you'll be introduced to Baldy's Test Cricket Hall of Fame, in a series of podcasts and written material that's bound to ruffle a few feathers and generate plenty of debate. We're one third of the way through the IPL, and unfortunately the cricketing headlines are being overshadowed by the tragic Covid-19 situation in India. We do our best to provide some distraction, touching on all 8 teams as we discuss what's caught our eye in the first 20 games of the tournament. Before the IPL chat, Baldy runs us through more turmoil in South African cricket and an 8-year ban for Heath Streak, while Binksy joins spin corner to update us on the early rounds of the County Championship and the form of Dom Bess and Matt Parkinson's 'Ball of This Century'. As the IPL chat begins, we work our way from the bottom of the table Kolkata Knight Riders through to a CSK side flying high and fresh off a win and a 37-run over from Ravindra Jadeja. We ask whether Andre Russell needs a promotion, wonder when Mumbai's finishers will find form and hit the panic button for a couple of teams, even after Lippy said it was too early to hit the panic button. There's praise for Moeen Ali and Glenn Maxwell in their new sides, we make the case for 'the craftsmen', Lippy tries to reference as many Black Caps as possible and the mulligans come out as we take another crack at predicting the playoff sides. Keep an eye out in the coming weeks as we continue our coverage of the IPL, plus all the NZ news as we build towards the World Test Championship final. On the other hand, KKR fans will be hoping that their big stars (Andre Russell, Eoin Morgan, Pat Cummins, etc.) are able to finally come to the party. In this episode of the show, we speak with current Melbourne Stars coach David Hussey about his recent experiences with KKR in the IPL, his outstanding career as a player and look ahead to BBL 10. Reflecting on his time as the Chief Mentor for the Kolkata Knight Riders, we talk T20 tactics, momentum, confidence, learning from the likes of Brendon McCullum and working with a diverse group that included Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Eoin Morgan and Varun Chakravarthy, just to name a few. As we move to David's playing days, we're introduced to 'Good David' and 'Bad David' as he speaks humbly about his impressive career both in Australia for the Victorian Bushrangers and the national side, and overseas, particularly for Nottinghamshire. We hear how, despite all this success, it took David many years before feeling like he truly belonged at that level. In the final part of the show, we take a close look at a Melbourne Stars squad stacked with high-profile international signings like Jonny Bairstow and Nicholas Pooran, rising star Will Pucovski and explosive all-rounders Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell. We hear about a few names to watch and explore the coffee habits of Adam Zampa as we look ahead to the upcoming BBL season. If you're a new listener to the podcast, check out the back catalogue. Pakistan out-fought, out-skilled and outplayed England in the first Test at Lords to silence their critics - we ask how has Mickey Arthur transformed a team usually mocked for their fielding to showing England how to win in English conditions. We hear from legendary pace bowler Waqar Younis. In contrast, where is it going wrong for England? Former England batsman James Taylor speaks to Alison Mitchell about how can Trevor Bayliss and Joe Root turn their form around having gone eight Tests without a win. Taylor's career was cut short by a heart condition and this week, has released a new book 'Cut Short'. He explains to Alison Mitchell how he felt let down by the ECB and The Players Association by the lack of care following his ordeal which left him fighting for his life. And we sent Rahul Tandon to the Home of Cricket where the world's biggest cricket stars came together in a special one off T20 charity match to raise funds for the five cricket grounds in the Caribbean that were damaged by the Hurricanes Irma and Maria in September last year. Carlos Brathwaite skippered West Indies which included Chris Gayle, Andre Russell and veteran batsman Marlon Samuels. They were up against a World XI which included Pakistan's Shahid Afridi and Afghanistan legspinner Rashid Khan. Picture - Mickey Arthur (Credit - Getty Images)

Samar Khan and Rahul Puri are back this week with their latest round-up of sports. And they have a lot in store -- Manchester City winning the Premier League, Indian Premier League (and Virat Kohli’s fate), the Formula One races and more. For Puri, Manchester City’s win was something that was just bound to happen sometime, and the title was, indeed, well deserved. The part that money might have had a play in giving the team an upper hand is undeniable, but both agree that money cannot be enough. The problems, however, that the money factor brings into the game are pointed out by Puri when he says, “What worries me about this money thing is that it won't surprise me at all if all these teams including Liverpool, increase their squads. And I don’t think that is good for football -- that all the elite players should congregate at just a few clubs. That’s not how the English game has ever been.”Regardless, whether Manchester City will be able to retain the title was a question both Khan and Puri seemed to have answered in the negative. Puri says, “Winning back-to-back titles in England is not a joke. And nobody’s won back to back since ten years.”Moving on, the duo discusses IPL and Royal Challengers Bangalore’s unwise decisions in the game. As Khan says, “Virat Kohli and the IPL just do not seem to get together. He makes unquestionable decisions about team selection. Bangalore has always struggled with the bowling attack. It just seems to be like a jinx that Kohli cannot get together for the IPL.” Partially agreeing with this view, Puri adds, “But I think that we all need to understand that IPLs and tournaments like IPL, you cannot win with two men. You need a team. Bangalore’s problem throughout is that it is not about teams.”What is it about, then? For Khan, it is more about ‘big flashy individuals.'Further, about the IPL, Khan and Puri make it a point to give a special mention to Kolkata Knight Riders -- the team that is pretty much coming together. It has Andre Russell, after all, who Khan likes to call a ‘butcher’, and Puri calls him a ‘weightlifter’. Two teams they are worried about are Delhi Daredevils and RCB. All in all, both foresee an interesting IPL season, considering they still don’t have favourites. The last topic of discussion was the Formula One races and Lewis Hamilton’s defeats. But both agree how Hamilton does not give up, and that it will be interesting to have Formula One competitive again.Tune into #JustSports for all this and much more!
