The harsh blue (grey) hue of the Brisbane sky, blazing sun, golden sponsors and Cameron Green's size means we've finally arrived at The Ashes. Pez and Higgos reject a cold, clinical look at form and instead go big on things like feeling, vibe, narrative, stereotype and jingoism – for the optimal way to enjoy the Ashes is to couch it in colonial, cultural terms, rather than anything vaguely objective or fact-based.As a result, we conclude Australia will cruise: despite not having won a Test series for a very long time, leadership in general tumult, and Smith changing his grip. The Visceral Minute returns and reflect this general approach to things “on both sides”, to invoke D Trump (who played 3s for Manhattan). We speak with Ollie Pope – who played Sydney Test Cricket with some distinction – and afterwards decide that we want him to play, because we are now known to him and want to lamely attach ourselves to his success like the weak little cucks we are.Mt Foxmore's Shane Warne sledges Mitch Starc again, Langer visits Paine, and Cummins is an astronaut. Meanwhile Ajaz Patel takes 10fer and we ask: what grade would he play here? The Sixers also beat a team with Zampa, Maxwell “and some clubbies”, because if you lose a BBL fixture it follows that you are carrying clubbies. We pay tribute to Rob Aitken for his feat of 500 first grade games, a first-class player if there ever was one.We include a special chat with CEO of Budgy Smugger, Adam Linforth, on building a proud Australian company and tubbing with the NSW Cricket Team.#AskTGC is an overwritten lecture from the pulpit about the harsh realities of life as a millionaire sportsperson. Australia beat the West Indies and South Africa beat England as the aussies go through to the semi final of the T20 World Cup on Net run rate.6 SATAustralia v West Indies, Abu Dhabi (10:00 GMT)Australia went in to their final group game unchanged and they claimed another win that was a relative cruise for the Aussies, winning by 8-wickets thanks in large part to a superb 89* for David Warner, as he got them over the line and past the 158 target in just 16.2 overs. The Windies put up a total of 157/7 with captain Kieron Pollard top scoring with 44 off 31, whilst Evin Lewis hit 29 and Shimron Hetmyer 27. Josh Hazlewood led the Aussie bowling attack with his 4/39 with a wicket each for Mitch Starc, Pat Cummins and hero of their last outing, Adam Zampa. The reply was ruthless as David Warner led the way with his 56 ball 89. Mitch Marsh also showed his stuff with 53 off 32. Akeal Hossain and Chris Gayle claimed the 2 wickets. The Aussies finished the group with 4-wins and had to then had to wait for the outcome of the England/South Africa result as it would come down to NRR if SA were to record a win against leaders England…England v South Africa, Sharjah (14:00 GMT) So, despite SA claiming a brilliant 10-run win over England, their NRR was just not good enough as they missed out on qualifying for the semi-finals, being pipped by Australia in to 2nd place after both finished on 8-points, England also finished with 8-points but kept hold of the top spot. After Moeen Ali grabbed the early wicket of Reeza Hendricks, it looked good for England but enter Rassie van der Dussen, who struck a fantastic unbeaten 94 off just 60 balls. Quinton de Kock hit 34 whilst Aiden Markram supported van der Dussen brilliantly with another wonderful ½ century for Markram – this one 52 off 25. Only Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid took a wicket for England. In reply, England made a solid start but Jason Roy had to retire hurt on 20 shortly before fellow opener Jos Buttler went for 26 off 15, ct Bavuma off the bowling of Anrich Nortje. Bairstow came and went but the middle order of Moeen Ali (37 off 27), Dawid Malan (33 off 26) and Liam Livingstone (28 off 17) also kept the chase alive, as did skipper Eoin Morgan (17 off 12) but SA kept chipping away and England just could not get a partnership going long enough to get them over the line and finished the 20-overs just 10-runs short, finishing on 179/8. Credit must go to the SA bowling attack with Shamsi grabbing 2/24, Rabada claiming an expensive 3/48 and Dwaine Pretorius taking 2/30 off his 3. Despite the defeat, England will be satisfied with their efforts as they held onto top spot and go through to the semi's as Group A winner.

On today’s agenda we take a look at the Indian ODI series with Virat Kohli’s men proving too strong, sealing a come from behind 2-1 victory.  We’ll be asking all the hard questions, why was Maxwell left at home, why did Mitch Starc bat at no 5 and will anyone remember this series in 6 months time?  There’s of course plenty of Big Bash action also taking place and the announcement of the Bushfire charity game with several retired players kitting up once again for a special cause.  We’ll also chat about Australia’s brilliant win against England in the U19 World Cup. That weird India v Australia ODI series has already come and gone since our last podcast, and Mitch Starc bats five for Australia now. What else did we learn from these offshored ODIs, which took place at an ungodly hour behind a paywall, other than what the BCCI wants, it fucking gets? The BBL rolls on (will it ever end?) and the Brisbane Heat are an absolute myth – as is AB deVilliers, according to three blokes from the internet with a combined test match tally of 0. Meanwhile, the ICC pitch ratings are in for the home summer: the WACA is “good” while the Gabba is “very good." But which is a more intimidating venue/airport/city for India to arrive at: Perth or Brisbane? And how do you get a job judging pitches? It’s obvious now that Ben Stokes is the best player that England has ever produced. And the English cricket media is going wild over Ollie Pope, who’s variously the new Ian Bell/future highest run-scorer for England, depending on which Twitter cuck you’re following. (That is until they ruthlessly tear him down 12 months from now.) Meanwhile, Kagiso Rabada has earned a one-match suspension for yelling really loudly, or some shit, a situation that is perfectly summed up by the frequently cited and watertight speeding analogy. Also, Pakistan has picked a 14-year-old in their U19 World Cup team – more normal stuff from a normal cricketing nation. In a TGC first, we welcome BBL rivals and Tasmanian grade club mates, Clive Rose and Beau Webster, to answer various questions about each other. From personal branding, Dennis Rodman, being called 'Slug', referring to enormous umpires as "The Big Man" and VIP booth circuiting in Hobart at 'Cargo'. You know, all the normal stuff. And #AskTGC deals with a few important issues, including best practice around Friday night circuiting, while responding to a lower grader’s request for career advice via Linkedin InMail, before ruthlessly dispatching a bloke who has the audacity to sign off his question as ‘Chop King’. Thanks again for the @BudgySmuggler team for backing this podcast week in week out. Great swimwear, great people – get around them and they in turn will get around you.

Growing up in the Victorian countryside, Dylan James Buckley dreamed of two things... Being the host of Australia’s favourite sporting podcast and smacking Daniel Vettori over the fence for six. He doesn’t like cricket... He loves it. Great song, great podcast. He also loves his good mates Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon. What’s it like donning the baggy green? Do they feel the weight of expectation from this cricket-obsessed country? What do they really eat during the tea break? The Bucka Boy takes a peg at the stumps and nails it. Howzat?!
