Jon Norman is joined by Cricket Broadcaster & Analyst Jarrod Kimber and the Deputy Cricket Correspondent of the Telegraph Will Macpherson to dissect England's Test squad for the first Test against New Zealand. Is Ollie Robinson's still England's best new ball bowler? Is there pressure on Gus Atkinson to perform with Jofra Archer set to come back in for the second Test? Should England have pulled Archer out of the IPL so he could play in the first Test? Will franchises soon offer Cricketers multi-year contracts to play for them instead? Is there pressure on Ben Stokes to start scoring runs again? Should he move down to bat at No.7, with Jamie Smith moving up to No.6? What now for Zak Crawley after being dropped from the Test squad? The ICC suspended funding for Cricket Canada following allegations of corruption, match-fixing, and "Bishnoi mafia" influence. A specific match against New Zealand is currently under investigation. Additionally, England's "Bazball" era appears to be ending, signaled by the removal of opening batsman Zak Crawley from the team. (2/2)1928
In this episode of the show, Binksy, Baldy and Stu look back at the week that was in IPL 2026, discuss England's Test squad to take on the Black Caps and cover off some news from New Zealand, Australia and the World Test Championship. We start the show by trying to make sense of an increasingly murky IPL playoff picture after KKR's big win over the Gujarat Titans in the early hours of Sunday morning New Zealand time. With plenty set to change overnight, we looked at both Kolkata and Gujarat to investigate what's been going well for these two sides recently. There's praise for spinners Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine, seamers Kagiso Rabada and Kartik Tyagi, plus the powerful striking of Finn Allen. As the conversation continues, attention turns to the Punjab Kings, who at the time of recording were on an almighty slump. We spotlight the impact (or lack thereof) of their overseas seam-bowling contingent - particularly T20 World Cup standout Marco Jansen. We also take the time to chat about Virat Kohli's masterful hundred for RCB against KKR and the need to appreciate greatness when it's right in front of your eyes. In the second half of the show, we head to the UK to examine the newly announced 15-player England Test squad to take on the Black Caps (at least for the first Test). Zak Crawley has run out of chances and Emilio Gay & James Rew join, but it's the bowling attack which has seen the largest number of changes since The Ashes. There's a return for Ollie Robinson, talk of Ben Stokes opening the bowling and possible opportunities for Matthew Fisher and Sonny Baker. To round out the show, we cover off the news that the NZ20 has been officially delayed until December 2027, Devon Conway is keen for a central contract, Australia named a youthful looking white-ball squad featuring the likes of Cooper Connolly & Ollie Peake, and the ICC are set to discuss one-Test series in the World Test Championship. Emilio Gay, Sonny Baker, James Rew, and Rehan Ahmed are the (relatively) new faces in the England squad for the first Test against New Zealand in June. There is also a recall for Ollie Robinson. Zak Crawley is the main fall guy from the Ashes, plus Will Jacks, while Jofra Archer was not considered as he is still at the IPL (mind you so are Jacob Bethell and Rehan Ahmed.) After the latest round of County Championship matches we are sure of one England opener after Ben Duckett's excellent undefeated double hundred for Notts today. But after a shocking dismissal for 17 continuing a poor run of scores, Zak Crawley's fate is sealed. Simon Hughes and Simon Mann lament the fading of his star, and consider the likely replacements. They also discuss the astonishing hattrick on debut by Glamorgan's Tom Norton, Josh Tongue's continued hostility with the ball which caused England teammate Gus Atkinson to summon a concussion substitute, and which spinner, if any, will get the England call-up. Zak Crawley suffered another disappointing return in the latest round of Rothesay county championship matches. Three top order challengers - Dom Sibley, Emilio Gay and Haseeb Hameed - stepped up with centuries in the last couple of days. Simon Hughes and Simon Mann run the rule over the contenders and assess their pros and cons as they try to assemble England's likely batting order for the first Test in just over a month's time. Plus - do we need DRS in county cricket? After last weekend's experiences several batsmen - including Crawley - would say definitely yes. Learn more about your ad choices. In this episode of the show, Binksy, Baldy and Stu discuss a range of topics from IPL 2026 at the halfway stage. Who has impressed? What predictions did we get wrong? And what did we get right? We also touch on the current overseas tours involving the Black Caps and NZ A, plus check in on the England Test contenders now that the County Championship season is underway. We start the show by discussing the flurry of runs we've seen at the IPL over the past few days. Shreyas Iyer and the Punjab Kings chased down the Delhi Capitals' 264, and Sunrisers Hyderabad made light work of a 220+ run chase against Rajasthan Royals. We saw hundreds for Sanju Samson, Sai Sudharsan, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and KL Rahul, but many of those players ended up on the losing side. As the conversation continues, we wonder whether bowlers can ever turn the tables on quality batters, compare Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to Wayne Gretzky, dismay at the struggles of the Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans and look back in horror at some of our pre-tournament predictions. There's also praise for RCB and the unbeaten Punjab Kings, who sit atop the table at the halfway point of the season. To round out the show, we move away from the IPL to talk about two Wills from the Black Caps - the return of Will O'Rourke and the form of Will Young. We also shine a spotlight on some of England's leading contenders for Test spots now that the County Championship is underway, such as Zak Crawley, Jamie Smith and James Rew. We'll be back in your feed again soon with more cricket news, including plenty of IPL coverage and the current NZ tours. Simon Hughes and Simon Mann reflect on England's first Test victory in Australia since January 7th 2011. This was a remarkable and rather unsatisfactory Test which lasted barely a day and a half on an MCG pitch which had a bit too much help for the seam bowlers but on which no batter was prepared to be patient. An impressive opening stand between Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett showed up some rather hapless Australian batting, and the youngster Jacob Bethell made a crucial 40 in a tricky runchase. At last 10,000 English fans have an England victory to celebrate though Cricket Australia will bemoan major revenue losses. England India Daily, 5th Test, The Oval, Day 3: It was Yashasvi Jaiswal's day at The Oval, as India pressed home the advantage of a weakened and inexperienced England attack. What a knock from the opener. 50s from Akash Deep and Ravindra Jadeja, and late fireworks from Washington Sundar kept the foot on the throat of the weary hosts. And to top it off, a Mohammed Siraj yorker to castle Zak Crawley completed the visitor's superb day. How will England approach the chase with so much time? We all know the answer to that. England India Daily, 4th Test, Old Trafford Day 2: Zak Crawley continued his love of the Old Trafford pitch as he and Ben Duckett set up a potential first innings lead for England, but can they arrest their aversion to centuries? India's bowlers shook off a sleepy start to finish the day strongly, however, and Jasprit Bumrah (who else) caused trouble as stumps drew near. It was the worst possible news for Rishabh Pant, who confirmed a series-ending foot fracture, but even that won't stop him from having a say in the Test as he bravely came back out to bat in the morning session.
