We speak about The Gardener Show at GG, they are at the bottom of the table but are things looking up?UPW are the first and only team to successfully defend a total and win a Super Over game, are they too dependent on individual performances? Can they just have one great day and win the whole thing?RCB collapse at home, 4 consecutive losses including 1 from a winning position against UP-W, is their bowling to blame?Mumbai Indians seem to be cruising for the most part, almost inevitably so, but can they win without NSB?DC have a formula, keep the batting team to under par scores and then get there with some Shafali Verma bashing. Do they have what it takes to wrestle out a win when Plan A doesn't work?Young Indian players like Kashvee Gautam, Kranti Goud, Tanuja Kanwar and Minnu Mani's bowling performances and all rounders Amanjot Kaur and Kanika Ahuja. From the batters it's been Shweta SehrawatCheck in on the redemption arcs: Shafali Verma, Arundhati Reddy, Sneh Rana, Shikha Pandey & of course Jess JonassenWe found time to discuss the Best Smile, Captain of the Halloween XI, Socks Recommendations & somehow not on the record, but this is a great place to put it - Richa uses Cricinfo in Incognito mode.
West Indies shudder to a series defeat against South Africa, collapsing spectacularly from winning positions. Bits and Pieces asks the tough questions - why are we so nostalgic and sympathetic to a team that has broadly disappointed for over two decades? Discussions on the 100, strange officiating in the India Sri Lanka tie where the Super Over was 'forgotten', a colourful discussion on balls that will tickle you pink, lots of chuntering on the Duleep Trophy Squads, and the status of internet in Pakistan - all coming to you fresh on Episode 137 of the friendliest cricket podcast. In this episode of the show, Binksy, Baldy and Stu look back at the three T20s between India and Sri Lanka, England's Test series sweep against the West Indies, and touch on the final of Major League that saw the Washington Freedom take out the title. We couldn't quite believe our eyes when we saw Suryakumar Yadav and Rinku Singh among the wicket-takers for India, but it came as no surprise to see the T20 World Cup champions to continue their winning ways against Sri Lanka. We discuss a wide range of players, from Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal to Riyan Parag and Matheesha Pathirana, and the Super Over drama of the third game. The second part of the show continued the 3-0 theme, as we discuss England's dominant wins against the West Indies - despite the touring side having some good moments across the series. We talk about the speed at which England can turn a tricky situation into a very good one, their complete team performance and whether they still have a shot at World Test Championship glory. There's also praise for Gus Atkinson and Mark Wood in particular, plus Jamie Smith, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Duckett and just about everyone who wore the England badge in those three matches. We round out the show with a few comments about Matthew Mott stepping down as England's white-ball coach, the jam-packed cricket calendar and the latest edition of Major League Cricket, won by a Washington Freedom side containing the likes of Steve Smith, Travis Head and Rachin Ravindra. In this episode of the show, we look back at a busy week of games at the T20 World Cup, which saw India and the USA beat Pakistan, Afghanistan beat New Zealand, plus Australia and South Africa take control of their groups. We start the show by discussing the low-scoring thriller between India and Pakistan, which saw Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya and others shine as India roared home to secure a crucial victory in Group A. We discuss Saurabh Netravalkar and USA's Super Over tactics, whether there's still a chance for Pakistan and wonder why teams are unable to turn good batting starts into big scores. In Group B we heap praise on Scotland's performances so far, before turning our attention to the marquee matchup between Australia and England. Baldy enjoyed David Warner's control of the powerplay, Binksy couldn't understand England's tactics and Adam Zampa's consistency came into the spotlight. As attention turned to Group C, it was Stu and Raj's turn to show their frustration, as we looked back at an uncharacteristically poor performance by the Black Caps, particularly in the field. We talked team selection, build up, whether they can bounce back against the West Indies or if their tournament is as good as over already. To round out the show, we try to predict who will make it out of Group D, with South Africa taking charge and the Netherlands perhaps the most impressive of the other sides so far. Can Sri Lanka find a way back? What about Bangladesh? We are planning to record regularly throughout the tournament, particularly as we approach the Super 8 and knockout stages. New Zealand also have two minnow nations in their group - Uganda and Papua New Guinea - who have the potential to challenge the much higher ranked Black Caps. Presentatie: Robert Denneman Foto: KNCB
Nick is joined by regular Emerging Cricket contributor Tom Grunshaw to help process all the emotions conjured by the Netherlands' scarcely-believable win over the West Indies in their final group match at the Cricket World Cup Qualifier. Set 374, the Dutch tied in regular time before a remarkable display from Logan van Beek took them home in the Super Over.
In this episode of the show, we cover a lot of ground. From India's Test squad, to the women's and men's Ashes, across to the ICC World Cup Qualifiers and back to New Zealand. We start by discussing India's Test squad for their upcoming tour to the West Indies, which does not include Cheteshwar Pujara, but instead features the young talents of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad. Was it the right call?More Ashes content follows, as the two series continue to deliver maximum entertainment both on and off the field. We recap a closely fought women's Test, which saw individual highlights for Tammy Beaumont, Sophie Ecclestone, Ash Gardner, Annabel Sutherland and many others, and another Australian victory. On the men's side, it's been non-stop banter. Zak Crawley's predicting a big win for England. Ollie Robinson is claiming a points victory, but Pat Cummins and his Australian side have preferred to let the former players do the majority of the talking.Over in Zimbabwe, it's been a run-fest so far at the ICC ODI World Cup Qualifiers. The home side has been piling on the runs, and are in pole position to nab one of the two remaining 2023 World Cup spots as the Super Six begins. On the other hand, the West Indies' campaign is in tatters after their second loss of the tournament - Logan van Beek's incredible Super Over, in which he plundered 30 from the bowling of Jason Holder, saw The Netherlands home after the scores were tied at 374 (no that's not a typo) at the end of the first 100 overs. To round out the show, we discuss Kane Williamson's social media tease, as well as the impact of Michael Bracewell's injury for the Black Caps' World Cup chances and Leigh Kasperek's return to the White Ferns. We'll be back next week to wrap the second men's Ashes Test between England and Australia, plus the World Cup qualifiers and anything else that grabs our attention across the cricket world. Season 3, Ep 8: Reloading lost episodes from the early Final Word. Radio Sport's Top 15 Sporting Moments returns for 2019 as Jason Pine counts down the biggest sports stories of the year. This is number one. The biggest sporting moment and story on the Radio Sport Mornings show for 2019.Not much need be said, as many Kiwis will long remember that fateful day in July. The Blackcaps had astonishingly made the Cricket World Cup Final after a dramatic semifinal win over India.Looking to rectify the heartbreak of losing to Australia four years earlier, many favoured their opponents - England.New Zealand would post 241 as the target, before putting England under pressure late in their chance.A number of "key" moments very late in the game would prove disastrous to the Blackcaps - including a botched catch on the boundary by Trent Boult and an overthrow which hit Ben Stokes, run away for four.In the end, England reached the Blackcaps total, but could go no further.A Super Over was needed, with many not knowing the finer details of the rules. Should the Super Over be tied, the team who scored the most boundaries during the match, would be crowned the winner.England went first, hitting 15 off their six deliverers. The Blackcaps sent out Martin Guptill and Jimmy Neesham. Needing two runs off the final delivery, Guptill's shot didn't get enough power, and as they scampered back for run number two, he was run out by England wicket keeper Jos Buttler. The Super Over was tied, but England had won the World Cup.It will long be remembered as one of the most agonising and heartbreaking losses in New Zealand sport, and perhaps cricket history.Nothing ignited the Radio Sport audience in 2019 like that final. It was talked about for weeks, months, and will be talked about for years to come.It is the number one sporting moment of 2019.
Early evening on Sunday 14th July 2019. Lord's Cricket Ground in London. Something had just happened in the sport of cricket that had never happened before: England had won the Cricket World Cup for the very first time since the tournament's inception in 1975. At the epicentre of England's historic triumph was Ben Stokes, the talismanic all-rounder with an insatiable appetite for The Big Occasion. He contributed an absolutely critical 84 runs off 98 balls when England batted, a seemingly nerveless innings of discipline and maturity. Thrillingly, it was enough to tie the scores at 241 runs each, so the match reverted to a Super Over - just six balls for each side to bat in the ultimate in sporting sudden-death. Stokes and his batting partner Jos Buttler saw England to 15 runs off their over. When it was finally confirmed that Martin Guptill had been run out off the very last ball of New Zealand's Super Over with the scores once again level, England had astonishingly won on the boundary count-back, and the nation could finally breathe again. Early evening on Sunday 25th August 2019. A sun-drenched Headingley in Leeds. Having been bowled out for just 67 earlier in the Third Test, England were facing the prospect of failing to regain the Ashes. In their second innings England were still 73 runs short of victory with a solitary wicket remaining. Australia were near certainties to retain the Ashes there and then. Cue one of the most amazing innings ever witnessed as Ben Stokes thrashed the Australian bowlers to all corners of the ground, in the process scoring 135 not out, driving England to a barely-believable one-wicket victory, and keeping the series very much alive. The nation took another breath. In his brand new book, Ben Stokes tells the story of England's electrifying first ever Cricket World Cup triumph, as well as this summer's momentous Ashes Test series. It is the ultimate insider's account of the most nerve-shredding but riveting three-and-a-half months in English cricket history.
This week we talk about a lot of things kicking off! England football, Frankfurt captains, Michigan linemen, they're all at it! They get throw the ball for a "Super Over" breaking down all of the hot topics from The Ashes this week and then round out the day's play with "Domestic Dreaming" by discussing who will play for Australia again first: Maxy, The Other Marsh or Too Slow To Open Renshaw? As a little bonus, there's a "What Are The Odds?!" segment on a tricky little Adelaide Test prop bet! Enjoy!
