POPULARITY
George Harrison was reaching his creative peak in the late 1960s, but famously had a difficult time getting the other Beatles interested in recording his songs. So when they broke up in 1970, George got a massive group of musicians together and recorded his entire backlog to release all at once. All Things Must Pass was the first ever triple album by a single artist, and (apart from Apple Jam) is a tightly focused, intense, cathartic listening experience unmatched in popular music. In this episode, Amanda, Ben, and Mike do their best to dissect this extremely dense album and prove that George Harrison was a brilliant musician and deserves the highest respect.Cohosts: Amanda Rodgers, Mike DeFabio, Ben MarlinComplete show notes: https://discordpod.com/listen/145-george-harrison-all-things-must-pass-1970Discord & Rhyme's merch store: http://tee.pub/lic/discordpodSupport the podcast! https://www.patreon.com/discordpod
The Beatles, like most bands, started out as a cover band, but became arguably the most covered musical act in history. You can find covers of Beatles songs in literally every genre of music. This week, we talk about many of our favorite covers of Beatles classics, including different versions of "Helter Skelter"; weird covers by Tiny Tim, The Flaming Lips, Echo and the Bunnymen, and Tori Amos; Beatles songs transformed into county, soul, jazz, and metal; Christmas songs by The Fab Four; new versions of songs from various soundtracks (Sgt Pepper, Yesterday, Across the Universe); and much more. We even get two live covers from a George Harrison tribute show that Stephanie and Bob played, including their version of The Traveling Wilburys' "Handle With Care." We're joined by Veronica Dashiel and Charles Kelso of the Monkeeing Around Podcast who introduce us to covers by Micky Dolenz, Apple Jam and The Weeklings. Check out The Monkeeing Around Podcast here! Spotify Playlist: If you'd like to listen along with the songs that we talk about in the episode, check out our Spotify Playlist. A podcast may not last all day, but we sure do let it roll. Take it Away is proud to present the third and final installment of our analysis and review of George Harrison's solo masterpiece All Things Must Pass -- and to start we turn our attention to the oft-overlooked instrumental spotlight known as Apple Jam. George Harrison and some principal players from the 18 lyrical contributions to All Things Must Pass use this full third disc to unleash 29 minutes worth of musical prowess, virtuosity, and improvisational ability unseen anywhere else in Beatles or solo Beatles canon. All this, plus album reception, legacy, and some words from Robert Christgau in the grand finale to our look back at one of the great statements in rock and roll.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/takeitaway. Pianist Count Basie was asked to select a group of his favorite musicians for an impromptu jam session style recording. He selected the players wisely and chose trumpeter Harry "Sweets" Edison, alto saxophone masters, Benny Carter and Willie Smith and tenor giants Stan Getz and Wardell Gray and the herald of the modern clarinet, Buddy DeFranco,. In the rhythm section of course Basie chose guitarist Freddie Green, his right hand man for many years. On bass, the reliable John Simmons and the fiery Buddy Rich on drums. Basie is replaced on the lengthy ballad medley by pianist Arnold Ross and on the final "Blues For The Count" , Basie switches to organ while Ross stays on piano. The format is simple as the set opens on a high level with "Apple Jam". The ballad medley follows with everyone displaying their wares on a group of standard songs. Then the exciting "lady be Good". This standard by the Gershwin Brothers was often used in jam sessions and is one of the high points here. The final "Blues For The Count" is self explanatory. All of this took place in Los Angeles on August 18,1953 under the wise supervision of the great impressario Norman Granz. Sit back and enjoy master musicians in an informal setting playing their best.

We continue our graze through the "All Things Must Pass" box, and this time the wheel stops on LP2 and side 6 (aka "Apple Jam side 2"). We ponder the nature of life, the universe, "Jam Piece", fidelity (as used in both audio and marital terms) and the passing of one of the few remaining fifties rock legends.
Week two of our look at "All Things Must Pass". This week, the first LP and side one of the "Apple Jams" box. George, Eric, Bobby Whitlock and Friends galore. What was George doing in 1970, and how did it end up as a three record set?
We continue our look at the "All Things Must Pass" 50th Anniversary Edition. This week, the first LP of the album proper and the first side of the Apple Jams. Cpngratulations! It's Johnny's Birthday.
The Beatles: “All things must pass.” What is life. My Sweet Lord. Thanks for the pepperoni. Y mientras tanto… ¡Buenas Vibraciones!

By highlighting different instruments and vocals you will experience these songs in a way that you've never imagined. Back to the Egg — «Robbers Ball» и «Cage». Были добавочно записаны наложения в исполнении оркестра Richard Niles Orchestra, а название песни, записанной на концерте в 1972 году, было изменено с «Best Friend» на «Why Do You Treat Me So Bad?».
