Now that the Super Bowl is behind us it's full speed ahead on the NFL offseason. The scouting combine is just around the corner, with free agency coming up right behind it. But for most teams and their fans, all eyes are focused on the NFL draft the last week of April. Seeing how the Philadelphia Eagles manhandled the two-time defending champion Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, it's fair to ask how far the Seattle Seahawks may be in being able to dominate up front the way Philly did. Mike Macdonald himself has been preaching ever since he was hired a year ago that that's precisely the way he wants his teams in Seattle to play. So for the sake of today's exercise on Mock Draft Monday, let's see how it looks if the Hawks were to draft ONLY linemen. Join along and let me know what you think! As stalemate ensued on the Western Front in the fall of 1914, the French Army began providing a daily wine ration for its soldiers stationed there. As the war went on, the ration went from about ¼ litre to about a bottle per soldier, per day. Armies throughout history have relied on psychotropic drugs to strategically shape the behavior of those fighting, but in the case of World War I, the French demonstrated a unique ability to harness the transformative power of alcohol to physically and emotionally fortify French soldiers to benefit the war effort. To discuss the French Army's wine policy on the Western Front, the World War I Podcast hosted Dr. Adam Zientek, Associate Professor of History at UC Davis, and author of A Thirst for Wine and War: The Intoxication of French Soldiers on the Western Front. Fighting a war in Ukraine during the winter months presents numerous challenges and dangers for military operations and the well-being of soldiers. Some of the key concerns include:Extreme Cold Weather: Ukraine experiences harsh winters with extremely low temperatures, often dropping well below freezing. This can pose a significant threat to soldiers' health, as exposure to extreme cold can lead to frostbite, hypothermia, and other cold-related injuries.Logistical Challenges: Winter conditions can severely hinder logistical operations. Snow and ice make transportation more difficult, affecting the movement of troops, equipment, and supplies. Roads and infrastructure may be damaged or impassable, leading to delays and difficulties in sustaining military operations.Equipment Issues: Cold weather can affect the performance of military equipment, including vehicles, aircraft, and weapons systems. Lubricants may thicken, batteries may lose effectiveness, and machinery may experience malfunctions, reducing overall operational efficiency.Limited Visibility: Snowfall and winter storms can reduce visibility on the battlefield, making it challenging for both offensive and defensive operations. This limitation can impact the effectiveness of surveillance, reconnaissance, and targeting, making it harder for military forces to gather intelligence and carry out precision strikes.Humanitarian Concerns: The impact of war during winter extends beyond military considerations. Civilians caught in the conflict may face increased hardship, with limited access to shelter, food, and medical care. Displacement and the strain on humanitarian efforts are often exacerbated during the winter months.Increased Casualties: The combination of extreme cold, challenging terrain, and limited resources can lead to higher rates of casualties among military personnel. Harsh weather conditions may also impede the evacuation of wounded soldiers and hinder medical assistance.Psychological Effects: The psychological toll of warfare is already substantial, and the added stress of fighting in freezing temperatures can exacerbate mental health issues among soldiers. The harsh conditions and isolation can contribute to fatigue, anxiety, and other mental health challenges.Strategic Considerations: Winter warfare can influence strategic decision-making. It may be more challenging to sustain prolonged military campaigns, and the dynamics of the conflict can change as both sides adapt to the unique challenges posed by winter conditions. In this episode we take a trip to Ukraine to see how things are going on the front line as winter sets in and some of the issues facing both sides.(commercial at 9:56)to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:Winter warfare in Ukraine – grounded drones and rat-infested trenches | International | EL PAÍS English (elpais.com)

The United States entered World War One on April 6th, 1917. Going to war in Europe meant the United States had to greatly expand its Army. It had enlist, train, organize, equip, and deploy hundreds of thousands of young men. One of the units that was part of this expansion was the 79th Infantry Division which was activated in August 1917. Many of the soldiers in the 79th Infantry Division were draftees from Baltimore, Washington, and Philadelphia. By the time they were deactivated less than two years later, 6,874 of their Division comrades had been killed or wounded. Gene Fax tells the story of the 79th Infantry Division focusing on its involvement in the final yet bloody months of World War One's Western Front.

Of all the Ravens' position groups that appear uncertain at the moment — and there are several — the offensive line is by far the most concerning. Baltimore will have two new starters at guard and a new right tackle in 2024. But Eric DeCosta can take solace in the fact that this year's crop of NFL draft prospects is stacked with quality offensive linemen. After discussing the departure of outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney (0:35), hosts Paul Mancano and Jonas Shaffer explain why a tackle could make sense for the Ravens' first-round pick (9:09). Then they chat with Trench Warfare's Brandon Thorn (24:57) about which offensive line prospects make the most sense for Baltimore.
