171: Princess Kate announces cancer diagnosis

Gossip With Celebitchy

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 23, 2024 33:28

Introduction: Minutes 0 to 5:15 We will be off for a couple of weeks due to Easter. I watched Dream Scenario on HBO with Nicolas Cage. He's a great actor but I don't recommend it. I really liked The Map of Tiny Perfect Things on Amazon. It reminds Chandra of The Summer I Turned Pretty. She's been watching Tennis but her favorite, Daniil Medvedev, didn't win Indian Wells. Royals: Minutes 5:15 to 22:45 Over the weekend we got a cover story in the Sun that Kate was seen out shopping with William at a farmer's market. Then on Monday we saw a super grainy faraway video where the person supposed to be Kate is kind of bouncing around carrying a large bag. The woman in the video didn't exactly look or walk like Kate. Assuming that was Kate, it reflects poorly on the Waleses because she hasn't done any events since Christmas. Also, if that was Kate in the photo in the car with her mom, her face has since thinned out. After TMZ published the video of Kate at the farmer's market, their executive producer said he wasn't sure it was her. There's still fallout from the Frankenphoto too. Before we got the whole fake Kate video, Kensington Palace did a sourced story with the Times of London again explaining that Kate edited that photo, that she feels bad about the fallout and that she's just trying to make her family look good. The quote that really stood out is where they called out the press agencies for noticing how janky that photo was. As Obama's photographer Pete Souza said on Instagram, there's a difference between adjusting the lighting or cropping a photo and pasting in different people. The royal rota tried to accuse Harry and Meghan of editing their photos, but the photographers, Misan Harriman and Chris Allerton, said that wasn't true. Part of the Frankenphoto fallout is that the wire agencies are reviewing all the photos ever submitted to them by Kensington Palace. One photo that's particularly bad was released after the Queen's death on what would have been her 97th birthday in 2023. It shows her at Balmoral on a couch with a bunch of her great grandchildren posing around her. That was obviously cobbled together from several photos. Getty added an editor's note that “the image has been digitally enhanced at source,” and Reuters has announced that it's “updating its procedures related to vetting images from Kensington Palace.” Another really janky photo featuring the great grandchildren was released after Philip died. As we talked about last week, there's renewed interest in Prince William's alleged 2019 affair with Rose Hanbury. Rose's lawyer went on the record to Business Insider last weekend to say the rumors are false. Other pundits are also defending her. Chandra thinks that the affair has been over a while. As part of the fallout from that, people have noticed stolen Qing Dynasty artifacts in family photos taken of Rose and her husband, David Rocksavage. We talk about the $10 million brooch that Camilla wore for an outing, which seemed meant to troll Kate. Buckingham Palace, Prince Charles and Camilla's office, seems pleased that Kensington Palace, Kate and William's office, is screwing this up so badly. They don't understand that it reflects poorly on them too and that most people don't get the distinction. Meghan has announced her new lifestyle brand, it's called American Riviera Orchard. I will definitely buy what she's selling and so will so many other people. So far she has just shown the logo and they have a one page website with an email signup. We also heard this week that three hospital staffers are under investigation for trying to access Kate's medical records at the London clinic where she was treated. Kate's cancer announcement: Minutes 22:45 to 27:30 We recorded this section on Friday after Kate made the announcement that she has cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy. Hopefully she is OK and will make a full recovery. Comments of the Week: Minutes 22:45 to end Chandra's comment of the week is from ML on the post about Archie's Christening pics being called out incorrectly for edits. My comment of the week is from Olivia on Rosie's post about Kevin James losing 60 pounds by not eating for 40 days. Thanks for listening bitches!

John Kerry has repeatedly betrayed our country and vital interests. Notably, he did it as a Vietnam veteran who undermined the war effort. As Obama’s Secretary of State, he was so assiduously supportive of the mullahs in the disastrous Iran nuclear deal negotiations that European allies derided him as “the Iranians’ lawyer.” Now, Iran’s foreign minister, Mohammed Zarif, has disclosed that former U.S. Foreign Secretary John Kerry told him about more than 200 Israeli attacks on Iranian forces in Syria. Kerry denies it, but given his track record, our Israeli friends can be forgiven for viewing his reemergence in a senior position in the Biden-Harris administration with alarm. That’s especially true given the Biden team’s evident determination to appease Iran. Kerry’s latest betrayal may contribute to the growing prospect of a horrific military conflict to prevent an Iranian Bomb. This is Frank Gaffney.

Hi I'm Laura Flanders of GRITtv. President Obama got one thing right in his State of the Union address. "It is [we] the citizens who make the state of our union strong." Just look at his speech. After years of saying the word poverty less than any president in memory (and talking about the middle class more), here was Obama talking about low wage-stifled workers, and inequality. That's thanks to public activism. "Inequality has deepened"; "No one who works full time should ever have to raise a family in poverty". The president's best applause lines came from protest signs. Now “citizens” (and would-be citizens) will have to come up with solutions too, because his won't take us very far. Take that minimum wage hike for federal workers. Ten dollars and ten cents an hour is nice, but $20,000 a year is hardly a ticket out of poverty, even if you can find a full time job in the public sector. Yes! Magazine held a live Twitter-fest during the President's speech. Lots of people wrote in, with solid suggestions for how to make much bigger changes. To stop the shrinking of the public sector for example, union members said bring jobs back home. The feds reportedly spend $1.5 billion a year buying clothes overseas. Instead of subcontracting to sweatshops why not buy American? The President talked about stimulating manufacturing by attracting businesses to high-tech ”hubs”. But if government's going to give tax breaks and cash to private firms why not demand an ownership share for the taxpayers? If the public's going to carry the risk, we should also see the profit. President Obama's support for natural gas came in for criticism. Gas isn't "a bridge fuel" they said, or if it is it's another bridge to nowhere. We'd be far better off investing now in wind and solar which will pay off handsomely. And create green energy companies that are owned by the public and dilute the power of the enormous oil and gas corporations. The Tweet that sticks with me most came from George Goehl at National People's Action. He wrote: "There are three paths we can take 1) Fight to preserve the little we have left 2) Work to revive the old economy or 3) Reimagine what's possible." As President Obama said “We all owe it to the American people to say what we're for, not just what we're against.” There's also a responsibility to listen. Many Americans are saying loudly what they're for. And they're making it happen. At GRITtv and Yes Magazine, we're calling it #Commonomics, and I'm reporting on a slew of efforts to build people centered economies, that serves people and the planet. As George says, it is possible to make a more fair world out of our old broken economy, but not if we only tinker. And not if we wait for the President. As Obama said, the union's strength lies in its people. You can find my coverage of #Commonomics on www.GRITtv.org or in the pages of Yes Magazine.

Guest John McTernan PHD joins us to discuss: A Tea Party protest at the Quincy, Illinois Community Center where Barack Obama was speaking was just like any other Tea Party Rally - peaceful, mostly made up of conservative Christians with a predominantly older demographic. . . and as the Americans sang "God Bless America," the SWAT Team appeared, and in addition to the riot police, there were snipers positioned on the roof of the building. Is this yet another sign of the disturbing trend taking place via the Obama Administrations increasingly overt attempts to demonize patriotic and Christian citizens? As Obama, and the Congressional Democrats take on an anti-Christian tone, a report has been written that has been widely distributed within the military designed to polarize America along Christian lines. Major Brian L. Stuckert's report singles out the "Christian Right" stating that Christian beliefs subvertive, and potentially dangerous. The Islamic Society of North America is currently counseling U.S. Troops in the name of diversity as Barack Obama, true to his campaign promise, is organizing a "Civilian National Security Force" to deal with the "domestic terrorist threat" that is described with terms that run parallel to Christian Conservative Lines. And as the polarization against Christianity rises in America, Muslims countries are experiencing a significant growth in Christianity. From Indonesia to the Middle East to Africa, dominantly Muslim areas are witnessing an explosion of Christian conversions. Christians are driven by the need to treat others as they would like to be treated, and that kind of change of heart, and a discipline that rejects the worst of human nature, is part of the drive behind the salvation that is taking place in Muslim Nations at the grass roots level - It is not being spread by the sword, or by mandate, but by individual changes of heart, which Christians believe is the work of God Himself - Conservative News and Commentary
