It happened! The Pacers pulled off a blowout win at home against the Thunder last night and we are ecstatic! It seemed the Finals were destined for an OKC win after the Pacers blew it in Game 4, but they came back even with their star player hobbled. The Mariners offense struggle again as the Red Sox come away with a 3-1 win and a series win. This offense is better than last year, but it's still not good. We just need to win enough to get to the trade deadline and hope that the organization will bring in some help… but will they? We've been burned in the past! :30- Mariners Morning After Luis Castillo gave up only 3 hits, but 2 of them were home runs and that was the difference in the game for the M's. :45- The Lakers are being sold for $10 Billion to Mark Walter who also has stakes in the Dodgers, Sparks, Chelsea and more. What does he know about the future of sports that we don't? See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Headlines and Seahawks One Series: Kalen DeBoer (Alabama Head Football Coach) on Jalen Milroe. We're reunited with Coach Deboer, but we're not Sailin with Kalen, we're Jalen with Kalen. What does Coach say to people who knock Milroe's accuracy? :30- The WNBA has a problem on their hands and they don't seem interested in fixing it. What can we realistically expect from the Kraken front office as far as free agency and trades go? See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
There are three guys the M's could have gotten this past offseason and not getting them contributed to the failure of the offseason. - Josh Naylor: 1 year, $11 million, a draft pick and the 20th prospect. That's all it would have taken. - Hyesong Kim: 3-year $12 million with the Dodgers…. Could have helped settle 2nd base - Drew Pomeranz was in Mariners Spring Training and we let him go. HOW?!?!? He's pitched 20 games for the Cubs and hasn't allowed a run and WE HAD HIM! :30- We revisit our One Series conversation with Ian Furness yesterday and discuss the importance of a healthy Abe Lucas. :45- How are we coping with what could go down tonight? See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
A Champion has been crowned, so we start the show with the Stanley Cup and a look at the back-to-back Cup Champions, the Florida Panthers. How are they able to continue their success? :30- Mariners Morning After- the Mariners offense showed up last night and it's name is Cal Raleigh. Cal took over last night as he hit grand slams and doubles, stole bases and helped lead Bryan Woo to a 2-hit shutout. HIGHLIGHTS SENT IN PREVIOUS EMAIL :45- Yes, we have to talk about the NBA Finals and the fact that the Thunder could win it all tomorrow. Will Tyrese Haliburton be healthy enough to give the Pacers a chance? See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
The Rafael Devers trade was shocking to everyone, but now it's got us thinking about what moves the Mariners could make ahead of the MLB Trade Deadline. - Louis Robert Jr- not having a great year, but could a change of scenery do the trick? - The Orioles aren't having the season they expected, but Ryan O'Hearn is having an all-star season and adding in Felix Bautista could sweeten the deal. You might have to give up Miller though, would you? - Byron Buxton is about as talented a payer as you'll find, but he's got a lengthy injury history and it's been rumored that the Twins are interested in shopping him. You might have to give up Harry Ford for him, worth it? - Salvador Perez…The Royals are having a terrible year and Perez is on the last year of his deal, so could they get rid of him? Mitch Garver and a couple prospects might be the cost and he could solve several issues for you. - Austin Riley still remains a possibility as the Braves continue to underperform, but could his large salary be the deterrent? :30- ANGIE MENTINK (ROOT Sports) joins us on rubber match day as we find even more ways to love Cal Raleigh. :45- Bucky may not be here this week, but he is dominating the Green Jackets right now and we need to praise him… as much as it pains us. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Seahawks One Series: IAN FURNESS (933KJR/Fox13) on tackle, Abe Lucas. Lucas dealt with injury coming into last season, but this season the former Coug looks to be healthy and ready to go. How important is he to this o-line and how will he operate in this new Klint Kubiak offense? :30- ABCs of the Mariners - T is for Tacoma- Chuck will be there on back-to-back Fridays and Luke Raley has been getting rehabbed there, so that must mean he's close to coming back, right? - U is for underway- it seems we are finally underway with the Cole Young career - V is for Vote- get those all-star votes in now! :45- We close out the show with one last thing! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Logan returns, the offense does not. The Mariners go 1-9 with runners in scoring position and Julio and Cal were the worst of the bunch. The good news is that Logan looked like Logan, striking out 10 over 5 innings of work and we have had 4 great starts from our pitching staff. Now, if we could just get the pitching and offense to work together more consistently… what a sight that would be! :30- Yes, we have already lamented about last night's 2-0 shutout at the hands of the Red Sox, but it's the top of the order that we have to focus on here. With the bases loaded by the bottom of the order, JP stepped up to the plate with no outs and struck out… followed by Julio and Cal also striking out to leave them loaded and take away nothing. HIGHLIGHTS ATTACHED- including Logan's 10 strikeouts and the strikeouts of JP, Julio and Cal :45- Ok, we have to briefly talk about the NBA Finals. OKC won game 5 to take a 3-2 lead and they could close it out later this week. We knew this would happen eventually, we just hoped we would have a team back before it did. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Headlines and an Ernest conversation. Yesterday, John Boyle joined us to give his thoughts on just how important Ernest Jones is to this 2025 Seahawks team, so we revisit part of the conversation and discuss. :30- The Red Sox surprised everyone when they traded Rafael Devers to the Giants without shopping him around, but they needed to find someone who would take him and his contract off their hands. These long-term contracts rarely work out, and we never expected the Mariners to be in on a trade like that. :45- We had no idea how powerful we are! The first numbers are in on allstar voting and Cal leads all catchers by almost 700,000 votes. Should we take all the credit now or….? See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Seahawks One Series: HUGH MILLEN on Cooper Kupp. Cooper Kupp isn't the same player he was a few years ago, but he can still be a valuable asset to this Hawks offense, so how will he fit in and what can we expect from Kubiak's offense? :30- ABCs of the Mariners - Q is for quantify: a little clarification on that earlier Robinson Cano conversation - R is for relievers- Aroldis Chapman is ridiculous; 37 years old and still throwing 102 mph. Meanwhile, Munoz hasn't pitched in 7 days; is all the rest going to prove to be bad news. - S is for Solano- why Dan, why? :45- The Kevin Durant drama continues… where will he end up? With Rafael Devers headed to San Francisco, the Red Sox are in town to face Logan Gilbert and the Mariners tonight. Can the M's take advantage? Shohei Ohtani will be the opener for the Dodgers tonight as his rehab continues in real-time. :30- Mariners Morning After- the Mariners recovered from a rough road trip to sweep the Guardians at home and we really needed that! :45- JJ Spaun wins one heck of a US Open. Hopefully that means he'll be back soon because we could use him! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
We have a live sporting event! The US Open is underway and the players are making Oakmont look relatively easy on Day 1. What will the USGA have to say about that on Day 2? Do we like the test of the US Open? Would we want to see this degree of difficulty for all the majors? :30- Mariners Morning After- the Mariners were swept by the Diamondbacks to end their road trip and we wonder (and hope) if this is rock bottom. Bryan Woo went 5 great innings, but like has been the story lately, one blow up inning spoiled the whole thing and it was non other than Geno Suarez who played hero for the Diamondbacks. :45- Yesterday we talked to Jacson Bevens during our Seahawks One Series and he gave us his thoughts on Julian Love and his leadership. Headlines and Seahawks One Series: JACSON BEVENS (Cigar Thoughts Podcast) on Julian Love. We're not saying this Seahawks defense is L.O.B. 2.0, but how far off are they with Love leading the way? :30- ABCs of the Mariners - G is for Geno- it was good to see him, but painful. There's been talk about the Mariners trading for him ahead of the deadline, but the teams are pretty even right now, so whose to say the M's will even be buyers at the deadline? - H is for habits- while Randy Arozarena does a lot of good things, he certainly has a lot of bad habits and another one popped up last night. - I is for incomplete- yes, this team isn't playing well right now, but the starting rotation is incomplete and until they're healthy and back, then the research on this team is also incomplete. :45- It's time to get Reckless at Breakfast! These are all statements that Chuck has made in the past and with the way the NCAA appears to be headed; they seem more and more real. Schools will decide to give scholarships or pay athletes as a university employee. The future of Olympic Sport sustainability in college is in peril. The NFL will someday take over the 18-22 football system and create a feeder program. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
The Mariners lost to the Diamondbacks again last night and are now a .500 team. It's been a rough last 20 games as the Mariners have gone 6-14, but they're still somewhere in the middle of what we've been seeing the last month and what we saw in April. All of this seems inevitable though given the lack of activity last offseason… oh what could have been…. Chuck goes through 3 possibilities that the team could have added, but didn't. :30- Mariners Morning After The Mariners lose last night, which means a 3rd straight series loss. Logan Evans got the start, going 5 innings and giving up 4 runs, but back to back home runs by Arozarena and Tellez brought the team right back into it in the 6th, only to give those runs right back and then some. :45- Yesterday we talked to Walter Jones during our Seahawks One Series and got his thoughts on the importance of having a dependable guard on the side of the left tackle, i.e. the Hutch to your Jones. Scottie, Rory and Bryson are the favorites yet again, but Brady gives us his insight on the favorites, the field, some dark horses and who he's fading. :30- The Mariners lose a wild one in Arizona and Dom Canzone gives them a chance with a 9th inning home run. That Mariner game wore us out and cost us precious sleep! The Mariners staged a 9th inning comeback to tie the game and send it to extra innings, making us think that this could be a turning point in the season that we will look back at remember fondly. Instead, the Diamondbacks walked it off in the 11th inning on a Josh Naylor grand slam. Dom Canzone was the 9th inning hero on his first game back with the team. This team isn't doing the little things and it's costing them greatly. :30- Mariners Morning After Last night was a roller coaster after the offense struggled to get runs until the 9th inning. Emerson Hancock went 5 innings and gave up just 2 runs and Dom Canzone came through with a game-tying homerun in the 9th inning, but that's all the Mariners could manage and Josh Naylor walked it off for the D-Backs in the 11th. :45- We began our Seahawks One Series yesterday with Gregg Bell giving us his thoughts on Sam Darnold and what the Seahawks might be hoping for from the newcomer. - It's THE Chuck Powell, THE Bucky Jacobsen and THE Ashley Ryan.; We googled ourselves to prove it. Baseball's Winter Meetings concluded last night and there wasn't any activity from the Mariners, but they were involved in some trade rumors and Luis Castillo's name has been floating around. Something changed during the Winter Meetings and the M's seem to be openly shopping Castillo… it could have something to do with the fact that Mariners ownership refuses to increase payroll once again. :30- How Great is your hate? This week on Black Hoodie Alchemy, I'm joined by the wonderful and well-studied Hermeticist, Ashley Ryan AKA Pythian Priestess of tiktok (witchtok to be specific) and her investigative occult podcast, The Occult Unveiled, which you can find on all platforms. While tiktok is not usually on this podcast's radar, it's worth noting a bit since our guest has nearly half a million followers, and she is a refreshing example of a genuine person, putting out authentic content on tiktok (among other places), and it goes to show that you should never judge a book by its social media platform! As for more serious matters, Ashley is an intriguing esoteric student, living in Los Angeles, doing consistent volunteer work at Manly P. Halls' Philosophical Research Society and working with a disciplined unnamed Hermetic Order in LA -- all with her tiktok virality and her detailed podcast on top. Of particular note from her own show -- and a topic I bring up in our discussion here -- she's interviewed Manly P. Hall's last living personal student, Ronnie Pontiac, a name I hope to get in contact with in the future. Coming from the LA punk rock scene as a teenager, Ronnie's story about his time with Hall is touching, informative, and we just barely scratch the surface of the entire story. So along with the life and times of the esoteric philosopher Manly P. Hall, we discuss some of Ashley's personal esoteric story, hermeticism in the modern day, the dangers of New Age cults, navigating the vapidness of the social media grind for positive reasons, magical philosophy, and of course we get into some Jung and shadow work!
