POPULARITY
Welcome to Part 2 of our North Shore Breweries series. In this multi-part series, we will introduce you to some of our favorite local breweries, starting in Duluth. This episode features two great Duluth Breweries: Bent Paddle Brewing and Lake Superior Brewing. * Located in the Lincoln Park Craft District, Bent Paddle Brewing Company helped to revitalize Duluth's west end. Their beautiful spacious taproom gives you plenty of room to enjoy their great brews. We tried a flight of beers and interviewed one of the founders, Laura. Then, we hopped over to Lake Superior Brewing Company, all the way over in Duluth's East Lakeside neighborhood. They are still working out their first round of brews since reopening late last year, so we sampled some of the amazing menu items. * Learn More... We are kicking off off a Brewery Review! We have done this before but now these will be stand alone Episodes…. We visit the Bent Paddle Brewery in Duluth MN. This was a lot of fun as we had a tour and also visited the taproom. Enjoy!
There's hard work and there's things that are just meant to be: Bent Paddle Brewing Company is a good mix of both. One of Duluth's most popular breweries (and that's an understatement!), the spot came to be thanks to the hard work of four co-founders who came together in a way that can only be described as destiny. One of those four founders is Laura Mullen, the Vice President of Outreach and Marketing for Bent Paddle. A beer lover prior to opening the brewery, she recounts the amazing road to opening Bent Paddle, how the cofounders settled on a Duluth location and her cool connection to the industry from the very beginning. Crack a cold one and listen to the history of Bent Paddle, a true Duluth beacon.

So what's a vertical tasting, you may (or probably may not) ask? Well, let us tell you in this week's show! We invited Andrew Karr, an admin from the online group 'Beer People', onto to the show, and he brought us a vertical of Bent Paddle's Double Shot Double Black dating back to 2014 all the way up to 2018! VERY EXCITE! We get to know Andrew a little bit as we chat about Beer People's beginnings, his very popular yearly brackets, and of course a story about admining a page you might find amusing. Bent shaft paddles provide more power and efficiency while paddling your canoe. Some people love them while others prefer the standard strait shaft paddle. Some don't like how the bent shaft paddle preform when steering the canoe from the stern. We at BWCACAST.com love to use bent shaft paddles both when paddling in the bow and when paddling in the stern. The design allows you to utilize more of your power being delivered in a manner that propels your canoe forward through more of your paddle stoke. Jim shows you some quick tips on how to make sure your using the bent shaft paddle correctly.

After spending the day exploring around Knifes Lower Arm we packed up our camp and headed out. We took a different rout on the way out that brought us over a portage scraped down by the glaciers during the ice age. We traveled through Ensign Lake where we show off a nice campsite. Jim talks about the effect the deer have one the area as they continue to push north.
